New Obama ad will “run on our record,” but leave out …
posted at 9:21 am on May 7, 2012 by Ed Morrissey
Will Team Obama run on the President’s record, or from it? In their new 60-second ad “Go,” aimed at swing states, the Obama campaign tries to sell voters on Barack Obama’s accomplishments in his term in office. However, a couple of omissions are rather telling:
“We’re certainly running on our record,” senior Obama strategist David Axelrod said of the ad in an interview Sunday on ABC’s “This Week.”
In just 60 seconds, the ad reminds viewers of the economic crisis Obama inherited in early 2009 — “America’s economy spiraling down,” the narrator says — and strives to portray Obama as the nation’s rescuer — “He believed in us. Fought for us.”
The ad touts the resurgence of the U.S. auto industry, killing of Osama bin Laden, end of the Iraq War and a positive trend in private sector job growth as the signature achievements of Obama’s first term.
It notably does not mention his signature legislative achievement — the Affordable Care Act — or Wall Street reform.
Chuck Todd tweeted that this is Obama’s idea of a “morning in America” ad. That would be a neat trick, considering that Reagan’s ad referred to the need to shake off the malaise and fatalism of the Jimmy Carter presidency, and Obama’s selling that exact same malaise. There are fewer jobs in the US now than when Obama took office — no, really — and Obama’s trying to sell this as The New Normal. That’s exactly what Carter tried to sell in 1980, and history showed how well permanent stagnation sells. On top of that, he’s still whining about having “inherited” the 2009 economy, when (a) he ran for the office without anyone twisting his arm, and (b) wasn’t there a guy named Barack Obama in the Senate in January 2007?
The omission of ObamaCare and Dodd-Frank shows how difficult this election will be for Obama. Those are his only two legislative accomplishments, and they’re so toxic that he can’t even include them in his swing-state ads. Small wonder Team Obama wants to talk about Swiss bank accounts and Seamus The Roof-Ridin’ Dog.
Team Obama may regret mentioning the economy, too. The RNC has a new ad out this weekend that asks and answers the big question after four years — “Are We Satisfied? No!”
The combination of Obama’s words from 2008 and 2012 is particularly effective. Not much has changed in four years, except that we’ve added almost $5 trillion in new debt, with the promise of massive red ink to come. The only answer this administration has to that situation is that they don’t have a plan, but they just don’t like anyone else’s. Maybe they should get out of the way and let people who do have plans take charge.

Drop the box, toss in the dirt, pat it down…that kind of mourning.

Obamacare was supposed to be THE big achievement of the Obama admin. It shows how much trouble that he is in if he can’t even advertise it.

No…that’s a surprise.

I haven’t seen the numbers lately–the media is probably on lock-down on polling the issue, now–but I seem to remember that more than half of the people still had a negative view of O-Care.
Perhaps the Odumbo campaign is hoping people have forgotten it? (C’mon SCOTUS!)

Exactly right. This is based on the reality that the Left not only disagrees with how we Americans do things but fundamentally has no clue as to how we Americans think. So ObaMao and the Left keep trying to convince us of things that are essentially illogical. They keep wanting us to believe their BS rather than the realities that we see with our own eyes. No sale! We don’t accept ObaMao’s new normal and he will no doubt be stunned and dismayed at how profoundly he has misjudged the situation.

Uh hoh my god…that Obama ad was horrible.
In the very first fifteen seconds they are whining that everything collapsed before he took office. Then he spikes the Osama football …again right before he reminds us that things still suck and can he please have four more years.
NeoKong on May 7, 2012 at 9:42 AM
What the hell is your problem? Get out of my seat.
Bishop on May 7, 2012 at 9:43 AM
So they are going to run on the failed ‘Stimulus’, Cash for Clunkers, shafting those holding interest in GM and Chrysler, not reforming the housing loan system, taking over student loans so that your debt is to the US government which can do with you as it pleases, and the lovely high speed rail project in CA?
I’m sure I’ve forgotten a few things like Solyndra and Fast & Furious, Operation Castaway and the like…and not doing a thing to help the people of Iran in 2009, while deciding that bombing just about anyone in Libya to get rid of Kaddafi was a hot idea…
Maybe Obama has gotten his golf handicap down? That should play well, although his slice to the left has gotten worse, not better, since 2008.
ajacksonian on May 7, 2012 at 9:43 AM
Maybe Julia should think about buying her own car for a change. If she does something to tick off Obama, she’ll be riding under his bus–not inside.

Yes. Even more telling, he will have to lie about unemployment. This ad of his is a huge mistake.

Oh My! Time to throw another slutty law student or anecdote from a 1983 vacation in front of the media. Anything to distract from the real issues of this election. Jobs and the economy and Obama’s failures to address either after 3.5 years of whining about what he inherited. The fact of the matter is that economic recovery does take years and Obama has had years. He has been a miserable failure who time and again has doubled down on stupid.
Obama’s lame economy ad (the one ending with the idea that a Swiss bank account is treasonous or something) ran all weekend here in Virginia. The only thing I could think of when I came on the air was just how disjointed and vague it was. I guess that is what happens when you have to run on the kind of record this filthy bastard has racked up.

Neat trick my butt. This would/should backfire in 10 different ways. No it’s not morning in America- its half time- and the freakin coach is a narcissistic ideologue who doesn’t care if we win or lose. He just wants it to be fair, and for the “rich” to pay more. Stealing from the Gipper’s playbook would be unwise, not to mention 4 years too late.

Yes, yes, and YES some more!
I’ve been impressed with Romney’s abilities since the beginning. The man has been, and continues to be, vastly underestimated. Maybe the underestimation is not a bad thing for Romney at this point, though. It’s still shocking to me how so many people go along with the trendy, unfounded perception that Mitt is somehow clueless or an ineffective campaigner. Mitt is underestimated at his rivals’ peril. He’s in it to win it.
Romney has been masterful throughout the primary season, and I have very good feelings about the coming months. It’s going to be a tough fight against Obama and his lackeys in the news media, but it’s a fight we can and must win!

Different Barack Obama. Our benevolent god-king emerged, fully-formed, from a giant clam shell. Kind of like Botticelli’s “Birth of Venus.”
Garentee you this is the type of spin they’ll put on anyone questioning his performance in the Senate and try to pin anything pre “I inherited this BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSH mess!!” 2009.

Gag reflex in full force. How does Obama claim to be a fighter when he is constantly going on vacations, holding concerts for his bundlers, or attending fundraisers in conjunction with campaign rallies thinly disguised as official business?
How does he fight for America’s middle class when he allows the DoJ to let black terrorists off the hook, smuggle guns to Mexican drug cartels, and refuse to cooperate with Congress? How does he fight for the middle class when he ends his term with negative job growth? How can he claim the auto industry is “back” when all he really did was transfer fund to a bunch of worthless union workers who are still cranking out crappy overpriced products?
The fact of the matter is that Americans of all income levels are worse off now than they were four years ago. It is much harder for Obama to make the claim he is the solution to the world’s problems or that the sea level will lower at his very election to office. Fifteen percent of Americans who want to be in the workforce are unemployed or underemployed and any improvement in the official rate comes from thousands of jobless Americans giving up seeking work alltogether. The price of filling up the car remains twice as expensive as it was four years ago which affects the cost of everything from groceries to bus fare.
For all of this, Obama says he deserves a second term because he “got” OBL. It is the height of arrogance for this worthless human being to even make a run for reelection. He, his fat bottomed wife, and his brats need to driven from the White House and out of the public spotlight.

Not only was Barry in the Senate, but he was one of the idiots voting against bills to reform the corrupt and foolish practices at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac that led to the housing collapse. Before coming to the U.S. Senate, Barry had worked for a time as a lawyer in Chicago. One of the things he did during that time was use the CRA to sue banks like Bank of America for not giving mortgage loans to minority applicants who were poor credit risks.
It’s disgusting that the MSM continually allow Obama to whine about “inheriting” an economic calamity that he actively helped to create.

Given the stellar economy the Republicans need to remind voters that all the real pain of O’Care is timed to come on stream just after the election.
Little things like the swingeing tax hikes across the board, decimation of medicare and medicaid, and death panels.
That’s sure to have broad appeal because everyone is feeling so flush and optimistic.

I have enough stomach issues as is, so I’ll skip O’s ad, but I’m just wondering . . . did his pathetic non-response to the BP oil spill show up there? I’m guessing the answer is no. He barely even voted “present” on that one.
