Korea cracking down on Chinese “human flesh pills” made from … dead babies

posted at 9:22 pm on May 7, 2012 by Allahpundit

As horrendous as this is, I’m wondering if it could be even worse than advertised. China being China, who knows how many of the fetuses involved were voluntarily aborted. That’s what the whole Chen Guangcheng flap is about, remember: He’s a crusader against compulsory abortions and sterilization. Given the market for these capsules and the power of the Chinese state, it’s easy to imagine graft in which local officials force women who might otherwise carry to term to have the pregnancy terminated so that it can be, shall we say, harvested for raw materials.

You know what? After reading several stories about this, I’m not sure we’re talking exclusively about fetuses here.

South Korea has seized thousands of smuggled drug capsules filled with powdered flesh from dead babies, which some people believe can cure disease, officials said Monday.

The capsules were made in northeastern China from babies whose bodies were chopped into small pieces and dried on stoves before being turned into powder, the Korea Customs Service said.

Customs officials refused to say where the dead babies came from or who made the capsules, citing possible diplomatic friction with Beijing. Chinese officials ordered an investigation into the production of drugs made from dead fetuses or newborns last year.

The Daily Mail has gruesome details. Reminds me of the “resurrectionist” trade, except that that involved studying corpses for medical research purposes and this involves … eating them:

The grim trade is being run from China where corrupt medical staff are said to be tipping off medical companies when babies are aborted or delivered still-born.

The tiny corpses are then bought, stored in household refrigerators in homes of those involved in the trade before they are removed and taken to clinics where they are placed in medical drying microwaves.

Once the skin is tinder dry, it is pummelled into powder and then processed into capsules along with herbs to disguise the true ingredients from health investigators and customs officers…

There have been disturbing reports that some babies were those who had perished in China’s notorious ‘dying rooms’ where youngsters are deliberately left to die because they were born into families that already had the limit of one child in country areas.

South Korean cops have confiscated nearly 18,000 capsules since last August. According to a documentary made last year, DNA tests confirm that the capsules include human flesh. In case that sounds tempting, fair warning: They’re not so good for you.

“This is gross, as well as creepy,” said Dr. William Schaffner, chairman of preventive medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, who consults regularly with the Centers for Disease Control.

“We have no idea how this material is processed and under what circumstances,” he said. “If it’s not done in a hygienic fashion to make assurances infections are excluded, it could contain viruses as well as bacteria.”…

Schaffner said the pills could transmit the drug-resistant bacteria MRSA that could be on the skin of a fetus. “If these fetuses went through the birth canal, they can quickly pick up bacteria,” he said.

Because the birth canal is in close proximity to the rectum, other bacteria like e coli, salmonella and shigella could be present.

There are roughly 35,000 abortions in China each day, more than 13 million per year. Next week’s Tom Friedman column should be amazing.

I’d also assume dog was on bayam’s list. Good to know he/she thinks Barrack Obama is backwards… or is that back-ass-wards?

Pro-human-life is fine. Of course, it’s natural to drop the “human” part since it’s implicit to the majority of the English speaking commenters on this blog.

MeatHeadinCA on May 7, 2012 at 11:26 PM

That’s actually not true and I think you know it. The reason the “human” is dropped is for propagandistic purposes. Most English speakers, in my experience, imagine unqualified “life” to mean the great diversity of life out there. You are always invited to come visit me and we could attempt to talk to random people about this. The invitation is serious.

I’m not the one pulling stuff out of my ass. But since we’re being all scientific tonight, what could possibly go wrong with you and me meeting up and talking to English speakers (beyond a political blog)? Yes, that’s sarcasm and I’m suggesting you couldn’t spot a true sentence if your biodiversity depended on it.

Anyway, time for bed. Hope I didn’t take you away from the important ecological crusades you had in mind. Strike that. You’re pretty clear what crusades you’d wage. For the sake of humans, I guess I do hope for distraction.

Well, that’s way cool, because no rational human being thinks that first trimester fetuses are sentient. There are of course pro-human-zygotes-life sorts who imagine a sixteen cell human entity doing calculus, but they seem silly to most people. Since no sane person attributes sentience to first trimester fetuses, at least 91% of abortion happen when no sane person believes the entity killed is sentient.

If true, this is just evil. Pure evil. Just a reminder that the Dragon is China’s logo. And for those of us who are theologically inclined, we know what the Dragon really stands for, pure evil. In my own Latino culture, the Serpent was revered and was also the official national logo, and guess what, they practiced human sacrifice. Coincidence? I don’t think so. Evil keeps manifesting itself throughout history and in all cultures in some way, shape, or form. Our current culture practices abortion, which is also barbaric and evil. God help us.

Dude, you are the one who brought up sentience. If you don’t like it’s implications, then don’t bring it up! It’s really not cool to decide in the middle of an argument that you don’t like the criterion you brought up.

Strange. I thought abortions were designed to terminate viability. And Kerry Kennedy is among the most vocal of supporters of abortions.

After all, who can find fault with a procedure which Kennedy herself claims is far more healthy than giving birth?

Is not the mantra of the pro-choice crowd the slogan “Every child a wanted child?” I’m sure they mean “the mother” — but in a truly enlightened liberal community, it would be the community itself which would need to want the child for the child to truly be wanted. After all, if “it takes a village to raise a child” and the village doesn’t want to raise the child, the village ought to have a say, ought it not?

In this country, the child has no rights not given to it by its mother. In China, the child has no rights not given to it by the state. I really see no difference from the viewpoint of the child — in both cases he or she has the “privilege” of life only if someone else grants it. Otherwise, dead, dead, dead.

If Kerry Kennedy thinks otherwise, her seamless garb has some serious rents.

God bless those poor children. God bless those mothers who were forced to have abortions. May God give to those evil bastards who perpetrate this evil all the hell they deserve.

Ghoulish and evil.

How do we know it’s not happening here? We don’t.

FLconservative on May 7, 2012 at 10:10 PM

Detective William Howard of the Kansas City police department says it does happen here:
http://operationrescue.org/files/dethoward.pdf

The aborted fetuses were placed inside Styrofoam cups and put in the refrigerator freezer next to TV
dinners. The female witness went on to describe of how she and other girls actually witnessed Rajanna
microwave one of the aborted fetuses and stir it into his lunch.

cptacek on May 8, 2012 at 1:02 AM

Sick, but not surprising. I’ve known pro-late-abortion-or-even-just-after vegetarians who wear leather belts and believe mankind is a blight upon Gaea. Cannibalism from them wouldn’t surprise me.

But it saddens me. None of this can last more than a generation, because obviously there won’t hardly be another generation.

I would have thought that my inclusion of the apple tree example would have supplied the clue about life not being instantaneous, and would include the emergence of sentience – which an apple tree will never achieve.

OldEnglish on May 8, 2012 at 2:58 AM

After Mao’s failed agriculture programs created massive famine, many Chinese resorted to cannabilism of infants. They actually didn’t eat their own babies; they traded with neighbors.

That “Great Leap Forward” was a great leap into hell.

Never try to explain murder to a psychotic lest he will claim you are not “sane.”

Adolf and Uncle Joe pretty much considered the Jews as expendable “entities” thus their and their blind following’s gusto for shipping them off by the millions to the death camps.

Oh. So this is all somehow less horrific if the mother consented to the abortion. Really?

No ‘fetus’ is ever voluntarily aborted. They can’t volunteer for anything. They are murdered.

Exactly.

AP, were you sleeping on the job for this one? Pull it together.

It would be disgusting to eat human flesh. Let’s just hope that a second term of Obama’s socialist policies doesn’t bring us down the path of Greece. There have been actual real people already killed in Greece and it’s going to get worst given the recent election. Starving people with a sense of entitlement do terrible things.

A question worth pondering !

Extrafishy on May 8, 2012 at 9:02 AM

Yes, AP, it is horrendous, and it has been worse than advertised for many years.

In April 1995, the Eastern Express, one of the largest English-language magazines in Hong Kong, reported about a month-long investigation into eating unborn babies.

In one instance, a female physician at a clinic for women and children gave a reporter a “fist-sized glass bottle stuffed with thumb-sized fetuses.” The doctor said, “There are ten fetuses here, all aborted this morning. You can take them. We are a state hospital and don’t charge anything. Normally, we doctors take them home to eat — all free.”

One physician said that she had eaten about 100 during the previous six months. She said that the best “fetuses” for consumption were first-born males from young women.

“We don’t carry out abortions just to eat the fetuses,” she said, but added that they would be “wasted if we don’t eat them.”

Doctors reported that unborn corpses “can make your skin smoother, your body stronger, and are good for kidneys.” Eating unborn human beings is a kind of traditional Chinese medicine and is deeply founded in Chinese folklore, the newspaper reported.

The best way to eat the unborn children, she added, is as a soup, together with pork and ginger to cover the strong stench.

Or as meat cakes.

KyMouse on May 8, 2012 at 9:36 AM

I can’t leave the claim that Pepsi flavors its soda with fetus cells unchallenged.

http://www.snopes.com/politics/medical/pepsi.asp

It appears that one of their testing labs used or may have used fetus cells in R&D testing to determine allergic reactions before the product was sold, but there are no cells in the drink itself. I talked to some of my pro-life friends and they said that, if true, the fetus cells used in the R&D testing dated back to the 1960s.

I also question whether that particular research lab is used only by Pepsi, or if it is used by other industries as well.

Respectfully,

Brian P.

Very true.

Zygote, fetus/unborn baby, infant, toddler, adolescent, adult, senior citizen– all of those are words that describe a human being, and each is appropriate at a certain time during the continuum that is that person’s life.

A zygote (and later an embryo) looks exactly the way a human being must look at that particular stage of development. Each of us began our lives the same way, and we would not have eventually reached the adult stage without having been, at one time, a zygote.

As “The Developing Human: Clinically Oriented Embryology” (a science textbook for medical students) notes on page one, “Human development is a continuous process that begins when an ovum from a female is fertilized by a sperm from a male…a zygote is the beginning of a new human being.”

That’s science. Not personal belief.

KyMouse on May 8, 2012 at 11:55 AM

Chinese medicine is wacky… they alone are responsible for putting a few species in risk of extinction.
even if the chinese dead babies\fetus is not enough, they can allways go abroad and harvest a few more from poor countries.

There are roughly 35,000 abortions in China each day

That’s equivalent to more than 11 times the number of causualties from the terrorist attacks on 9/11/2001.

Imagine if 9/11 had been more than 11 times worse.

And then imagine that happening each and every day, day in and day out.

That’s what’s going on in China.

And in the us, even at about 1/10 those numbers, there are still more abortions in the U.S. on average per day than the number of causualties from the terrorist attacks on 9/11/2001.

The 9/11 attacks rocked this country. But every day, more babies die from abortion than died that die at the hands of terrorists.
