Well-played, Canada. Obama probably thought he’d appeased his base/the Chinese by making the icky oil pipeline project thingy go away/their way, only to have our northern neighbors come back and offer another chance. Again, well-played and very good timing, too.

The Canadians aren’t stupid. When you’ve got a huge oil-importing nation with huge demand immediately to your south, it’s a lot cheaper to build them a pipeline and pump the oil than to ship crude halfway around the world to China. Middle East crude is “sweeter” (lower sulfur) and closer to China than Canadian crude, so the Chinese get more bang for the buck (or yuan) from the Middle East.

Besides, how would the Chinese pay the Canadians for their oil? Canadian oil salesmen wouldn’t accept the artificially devalued yuans, and any dollars the Chinese have came from the United States anyway–why not get them directly from us?

But if Obama is re-elected, the Canadians probably WILL sell their oil to China. This is why they’re pushing the pipeline NOW, in the hopes that American voters will throw out Obama, and Romney will permit the pipeline, and the Canadians can make a better profit from the oil by reducing the shipping costs.

Not only will it be shipped to China, but a lot of extra energy will have to be produced (and wasted) in order to ship it all the way to China. Also, China will use it in a much, much less efficient manner and in a much more pollutive manner. All the environmentalists are doing is insuring the worst possible outcome for their own cause.

The review process went on for more than 3 years and no one noticed that it crossed that part of NE? I’m not buying it.

If the area’s that sensitive, TransCanada never would have put it there in the first place but if for some reason they did, some one in Nebraska would have pointed it out immediately.

They can always find a reason, it’s what they do. The most barren and empty and worthless piece of land where nothing grows or lives can also be called ‘sensitive and delicate’ for the same reasons.

At the moment I think he’s concerned about key environment whacko groups withholding donations. That’s why he wants to delay until after the election.

I have no confidence this pipeline would do the country much good at all…I still remember how the Alaska Pipeline was supposed to make us virtually independent of OPEC…that’s what they sold us anyway and it ended up going to Eastasia instead.

It’s from http://priceofoil.org, and among other supporters, there are a few of the usual suspects: the Rockefeller Brothers Fund and the Tar Sands Group of the Tides Foundation, another of Soros’s stealth groups.

Their blogroll reads like the Stars of the Left blogosphere and includes the Daily Kos, Friends of the Earth, Coal is Dirty (! yeah, sure), the Huffington Post and Think Progress.

I want to ask my Facebook pal if he enjoys paying $3.71 per gallon at the pump rather than the $1.50 he used to pay back in 2005, and whether he thinks the oil companies were making just as much, if not more, profit then. But he’s just the kind of non-discerning type who believes everything he sees on MSNBC, that is, impossible to reason with.
