DWS: Republicans want to redefine rape, you know

posted at 1:16 pm on May 2, 2012 by Ed Morrissey

That’s the latest defense of the ObamaCare law from Debbie Wasserman Schulz, chair of the Demagogic National Committee — excuse me, the Democratic National Committee.  On a conference call yesterday, Wasserman Schulz accused Republicans and Mitt Romney in particular of attempting to narrow the definition of rape and put women at risk by supporting a bill passed a year ago in the House, as well as their opposition to ObamaCare (via Katie Pavlich):

Rep. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz of Florida, the chairman of the Democratic National Committee, accused Republicans on  Tuesday of “making sure that we would redefine rape.”

“I think the agenda of the Republican Party and of Mitt Romney has clearly been–and can be interpreted as–an attack on the issues that matter to women,” Wasserman-Schultz said during a conference call.

“From the very beginning of this Congress,” she said, “the first priorities in the first bills the Republicans introduced repealing the Affordable Care Act which would dramatically impact women in a negative way [by] making sure that insurance companies could drop us or deny us coverage for preexisting conditions, making sure that we could once again be charged more simply because of our gender for insurance coverage, making sure that we would redefine rape as only being forcible rape–that was H.R. 3.”

Wasserman Schultz seems to forget one inconvenient detail about HR3:

The bill was co-sponsored by Democratic Rep. Dan Lipinski (Ill.) and 16 Democrats voted with Republicans in support of the measure, which passed by a 251-175 vote last May.

Actually, the bill never proposed to redefine rape in any statute.  The limitation of “forcible” applied only to federal funding of abortions, not to the definition of rape itself.  The Democratic Senate never took up the bill anyway, but HR3 was basically the Hyde Amendment written into statute rather than as a budget rider.  That would have allowed Congress to ensure that taxpayer funding didn’t go to abortion coverage under ObamaCare — which the Obama administration assured pro-life Representatives and voters wouldn’t happen as long as Obama’s weak executive order of the time remained in force.

Looks like Demagogues — excuse me, Democrats — are getting a little desperate to push the War on Wimmenses meme these days.

Back to the imaginary “War on Women” again, is it?

Why does Romney want to rape women?

Got it.

Anything else, Democrats?

Maybe a budget?

Democrats doing anything to shift the focus away from the abominable record of Obama and the Senate Democrats.

Democratic policies are causing the erosion of the American Economy, the American Way of Life, and the American Role Model for the World.

As they diminish America’s standing the world, China rises. And they should know, given how much cash their party gets from there.

Assuming that “forcible” isn’t narrowly defined to mean physical so that it will also include threats of force, etc, doesn’t the definition of rape necessitate that someone was forced to have sex?

I can’t think of any scenarios where a person has sex of their own accord that should be allowed at a later point to be deemed rape. The closest I can come up with is statutory rape. It doesn’t sound like DWS is talking about Republicans throwing out SR laws though, so, what exactly is she trying to say?

Also, I remember a Mr. Show skit from the 90s where they did a parody of campain ads. In one of the ads one candidate claimed the other was pro-cancer because he failed to attend a march for the cure rally. This woman is about an inch away from claiming the GOP is pro-rape.

RULE 1: “Power is not only what you have, but what the enemy thinks you have.” Power is derived from 2 main sources – money and people. “Have-Nots” must build power from flesh and blood.

RULE 2: “Never go outside the expertise of your people.” It results in confusion, fear and retreat. Feeling secure adds to the backbone of anyone.

RULE 3: “Whenever possible, go outside the expertise of the enemy.” Look for ways to increase insecurity, anxiety and uncertainty.

RULE 4: “Make the enemy live up to its own book of rules.” If the rule is that every letter gets a reply, send 30,000 letters. You can kill them with this because no one can possibly obey all of their own rules.

RULE 5: “Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon.” There is no defense. It’s irrational. It’s infuriating. It also works as a key pressure point to force the enemy into concessions.

RULE 6: “A good tactic is one your people enjoy.” They’ll keep doing it without urging and come back to do more. They’re doing their thing, and will even suggest better ones.

RULE 7: “A tactic that drags on too long becomes a drag.” Don’t become old news.

RULE 8: “Keep the pressure on. Never let up.” Keep trying new things to keep the opposition off balance. As the opposition masters one approach, hit them from the flank with something new.

RULE 9: “The threat is usually more terrifying than the thing itself.” Imagination and ego can dream up many more consequences than any activist.

RULE 10: “If you push a negative hard enough, it will push through and become a positive.” Violence from the other side can win the public to your side because the public sympathizes with the underdog.

RULE 11: “The price of a successful attack is a constructive alternative.” Never let the enemy score points because you’re caught without a solution to the problem.

RULE 12: Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it.” Cut off the support network and isolate the target from sympathy. Go after people and not institutions; people hurt faster than institutions.

Debbie Wasserman Schulz: Save us Saul Alinsky, you’re our only hope!

Not to give the Democrats any ideas, but if you’re going to continue harping about a wholly fictitious “war on women,” you might want to choose a more sympathetic woman for the lead role. I can’t imagine any man listening to or watching DWS and not wondering about the damage she could do with that set of chompers or how god-awful it must be for her husband to have to listen to that shrewish, nagging voice of hers. Now, though, women can watch her and say “thank goodness I don’t look that bad” so maybe there’s some benefit there.

I was just thinking at lunch that DWS hadn’t said anything truly stupid in about a week. And as I come back to the office and open HA, my faith in the universe has been restored.

This mentally ill woman is the gift that keeps on giving.

Coming from the group that wants to expand rape to include ultrasounds, is this really a surprise?

If Repubs were waging a war on wimmin, don’t you think we would have started with Debbie Ramenhair? Way to put a face on your party, Donks.
