Obama’s bin Laden ad “despicable,” says … Arianna Huffington

posted at 2:41 pm on April 30, 2012 by Ed Morrissey

And she’s exactly correct. On CBS This Morning, progressive activist Arianna Huffington slammed the Obama re-election campaign for questioning whether Mitt Romney would have made the call to take out Osama bin Laden, and equated it with Hillary Clinton’s “3 AM call” ad in 2008:

“I don’t think there should be an ad about that,” Huffington said Monday on “CBS This Morning.” “I think it’s one thing to celebrate the fact that they did such a great job (with television specials). All that is perfectly legitimate. But to turn it into a campaign ad is one of the most despicable things you can do.”

She added, “It’s the same thing Hillary Clinton did with the 3 a.m. call. ‘You’re not ready to be commander-in-chief.’ It’s also what makes politicians and political leaders act irrationally when it comes to matters of war because they’re so afraid to be called wimps, that they make decisions, which are incredible destructive for the country. I’m sure the president would not have escalated in Afghanistan if he was not as concerned, as Democrats are, that Republicans are going to use not escalating against him in a campaign.”

Panelist Gayle King challenged Huffington over whether Obama is allowed to tout his accomplishments, but Huffington replied that Obama and his team did something very different in this ad:

“So in a campaign, aren’t you supposed to tout your accomplishments of what you’ve done,” Gayle King asked.

Huffington replied, “That’s not just what the ad does. What the ad does is questions. … (The ad) quotes a snippet from Romney and uses that to imply that Romney would not has been as decisive. There’s no way to know whether Romney would have been as decisive. To actually speculate that he wouldn’t be is, to me, not the way to run a campaign, on either side.”

Exactly correct. Obama would be on firm ground to highlight that victory in the war on terror, as he does in his tedious “Forward” campaign video. Implying that Romney would have let Osama bin Laden go under those circumstances is, as Huffington says, despicable.

All well and good, Arianna, dear, and bless your little heart.

Now, how about taking a good hard look at what Team Obama has promised since 2007 and what Team Obama has actually accomplished…and then what Team Obama has done that has made matters so very much worse for all of us since those wonderful days when “I won!” was all we needed to know.

When you do that…

If you ever come out of that progressive coma you’ve willingly entered…

Ed Rollins about Ms. Huffington after he managed her husband’s senatorial campaign:

Arianna Huffington had charmed me out of my socks to get me to manage her husband’s campaign. But in a few short months, I’d come to realize that she was the most ruthless, unscrupulous, and ambitious person I’d met in thirty years in national politics—not to mention that she sometimes seemed truly pathological. Her allure and style were only a veneer: the soul of a wily sorceress lurked beneath

Other than that she’s just a swell person.

Ouch.

And just think of all of the shady people that Rollins came across during his life as a campaign manager.

SteveMG on April 30, 2012 at 3:02 PM

When you lose Arianna you’ve got problems in more ways than you’d think.

Arianna, in case anyone has forgotten, is really more of an opportunist than a partisan, IMO. Remember how she used to be a conservative, railing against Bill Clinton? I know a lot of people have forgotten that but she didn’t become a (self-proclaimed) “progressive” until the mood shifted & it became fashionable to bash GWB for even breathing. (HuffPo was founded in 2005, remember). She follows the zeitgeist & for a while now the wind has definitely been blowing against Obama. I find this a good sign all around.

melle1228 on April 30, 2012 at 2:48 PM

Bingo, and this is more important than many may realize. This is Arianna Huffington, doyen of the left, unequivocably bashing Mr. Perfect on CBS, on one of his signature campaign issues, no less. One can make fun of Arianna all day, but she is a smart, shrewd woman whose extremely sensitive potitical antenna have made her a very rich and powerful woman. She’s at the top of the Democrat power structure, and her words mean something. This is a real game changer.

When the media turns on Obama, he’s done. After all, they created him; it only makes sense that only they can make him go away. Unlike conservatives, however, who are independent and eat their own with impunity, liberal are sheep; they are scared, and need permission to attack. Arianna Huffington just gave it. Obama is being cut adrift from the Democrat power structure, like Hillary was four years ago. Once that happens, forget about it.

The more dependent weaklings in the media will still try to protect the one; it looks like this story has been effectively wiped from the Google feed since it first appeared. But expect to see more of this as more people see that there is nothing to fear.

In the next week or so, expect to see a very positive story on Romney from an unexpected source.

Where do these demokooks get off suggesting that governor Romney would not have clandestinely sent US troops into Pakistan so the mission to specifically target bin Laden would not have been compromised?

“Still, Romney suggested just a few months later that he wouldn’t do what Obama ultimately did — call for a secret, unilateral Navy SEALs strike inside Pakistan. In 2007, Obama had said that if he were elected president, he would be willing to launch strikes against al-Qaida targets in Pakistan with or without Pakistan’s approval.

“An Aug. 4, 2007, headline from Reuters — an article cited by Obama’s ad — says, “Romney attacks Obama over Pakistan warning.”

Romney called Obama’s comments ‘ill-timed’ and ‘ill-considered,’” Reuters reported, along with other news services.

“There is a war being waged by terrorists of different types and nature across the world,” Romney said, according to Reuters. “We want, as a civilized world, to participate with other nations in this civilized effort to help those nations reject the extreme with them.”

Romney “said U.S. troops ‘shouldn’t be sent all over the world.’”

A post from the conservative site Townhall.com in 2007 says it got a transcript from Romney’s campaign at the time that shows he followed the “heaven and earth” line with the sentence: “It is worth fashioning and executing an effective strategy to defeat global, violent Jihad and I have a plan for doing that.”

Later, he explains, “Global jihad … involves millions of people and is going to require a far more comprehensive strategy than a targeted approach for bin Laden or a few of his associates.” ”

That’s at least been my practice. I said I’d go after bin Laden if we had a clear shot at him and I did. My uncle knew Arianna at Cambridge. About a year ago, my cousin was staying with me while she was doing a musical. One afternoon, we were talking about Arianna and rang up my uncle, who told us all that he knew. Arianna was quite the promiscuous, little cult member back in the day. Get a load of this:

Her mother was a Communist Party member in Greece. One of her most cherished mentors at Cambridge was a Maoist economist. She went through wealthy, married men like a hot knife through butter when she lived in London (before it became Londonistan).

The really batshit crazy stuff came later. While in London, she hooked up with some swami leader of a cult that practised “VERY free love” among its members and considered shagging the leader early and often to be a central sacrament of the “religion”. I don’t remember the “guru’s” name, but he had around 200 Rolls-Royces and the cult moved to somewhere in the Pacific Northwest and tried to take over or buy some town. Judith Miller, the former NYT reporter that went to jail in the Valerie Plame deal, and another journalist wrote a book about these loons and how they, allegedly, tried to poison the entire town.

And, her nuttiness wasn’t done yet. Sometime in the 1980s, Arianna Huffington met the David Koresh of her life – some loon named John-Roger. Anyhoo, he created this cult, MSIA that he spun off from ECKANKAR. The two of them attempted to convince a NYT writer, Peter McWilliams, with AIDS that, if he wrote a book and gave most of the proceeds to the cult, he would be “cured” of the disease and homosexuality (Yes, Arianna believed that gays could be “cured”). He wrote the book and gave the cult something like 60% of the profits.

Years later, after McWilliams became a “de-programmed ex-member,” he wrote a book exposing the whole affair. It was called: “Life 102: What to Do When Your Guru Sues You.” In the book, McWilliams told how Arianna had become a major contributor to J-R and an ordained minister in MSIA. Supposedly, there is a videotape floating around out there of Arianna in long, flowing, white robes being “baptised” by the J-R.

There’s also some stories from former employees about how cult meetings were mandatory.

It’s all pretty weird.

If there are others who have said one thing and now suggest they’d do something else, then I’d go ahead and let them explain it.”

The more he talks about this the more foolish he’s going to look. Keep it up Skippy.

5Gs (Good God Get a Grip Girl)
Does Obama really want to start a “I say what I mean” fight? Because I remember in 2008 him pledging to take public financing in the GE & raking Hillary over the coals for not committing to that. I remember him saying that no way would any health care plan of his include a mandate. I remember him saying that he wouldn’t vote for the FISA Amendment (which he did). I remember him saying his administration wouldn’t hire lobbyists. I remember him saying he’d close Gitmo within the first year of his term. Seriously, regardless of how I feel about any of these promises/policies of his, the list of him saying one thing & then doing the exact opposite goes on & effing on — and this is just the things I can list off the top of my head starting with the primary (the first time he really entered my consciousness outside of that stupid “no red states, no blues states” speech at the 2004 Dem. convention — and, come to think of it, he lied about believing that too). The man has 99% WORMed (What Obama Really Meant) his way into the Dem. nomination & into the WH & he has the nerve to pretend he “says what he means?” It would be laughable if it wasn’t so disgusting & hypocritical. 5Gs

Sounds like you were talking about this individual:

Chandra Mohan Jain, and also known as Acharya Rajneesh from the 1960s onwards, as Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh during the 1970s and 1980s and as Osho from 1989, was an Indian mystic, guru, and spiritual teacher who garnered an international following

He had about 200 Rolls Royces

Egads! I don’t like assuming unverified rumors of bizarre behavior based on anecdotal conversations are true, so I decided to check out your claims. It appears there’s indeed truth in what you say. Discover the Networks goes into excruciating detail…

Bill Clinton’s administration didn’t allow for heavy armor or spectre gunships for the raids delta was carrying out. For sure led to deaths of american soliders. Clinton has blood on his hands.

I understand. I don’t like unsubstantiated rumours on the internet either, but my uncle isn’t a flake or yenta. Also, after he told us about Zza-Zza, I did my own research and it chequed out. Now, obviously, I wasn’t alive or was very young (and wasn’t in the bedrooms) when she was running around London and then hanging out with cult leaders, so I can’t say for sure that all the sex stuff happened, but fellow cult members said that it did. It was all part of the “free love for swami” movement. :-)

Pulitzer Prize winner, Judith Miller, wrote a book about the cult to which Arianna belonged and McWilliams wrote a book about the whole “You write a book and give us 60% of the profits and we will cure you of AIDS/homosexuality” thing.

I see some of you remembered the name. I couldn’t remember it and had to look it up. Thanks.

Some years back I discovered rats in my garage. I had to decide between traps or poison. I went for traps, baited them and took away the corpses. That was a gutsy call. Certainly more than Obamas.

I had an acquaintance whose sister moved out west to be near the Bhagwan. She dropped her human name and adopted the name of Nirmal. I always referred to her as ‘nearly normal Nirmal’.
