Obama has hosted more fundraisers than the last 5 presidents…combined

posted at 12:01 pm on April 30, 2012 by Morgen Richmond

It’s been clear since not long after the 2010 election that President Obama’s top priority for the remainder of his first term would be ensuring his own re-election. From backing away from a meaningful deficit reduction deal, to his single-minded focus on dividing Americans along class lines, he has consistently put his own political interests ahead of working with Congress to solve America’s most pressing problems. But a new book makes shockingly clear just how focused Obama has been on his political future. Via Toby Harnden at the Daily Mail (emphasis added):

Barack Obama has already held more re-election fundraising events than every elected president since Richard Nixon combined, according to figures to be published in a new book.

Obama is also the only president in the past 35 years to visit every electoral battleground state in his first year of office.

The figures, contained a in a new book called The Rise of the President’s Permanent Campaign by Brendan J. Doherty, due to be published by University Press of Kansas in July, give statistical backing to the notion that Obama is more preoccupied with being re-elected than any other commander-in-chief of modern times.

Doherty, who has compiled statistics about presidential travel and fundraising going back to President Jimmy Carter in 1977, found that Obama had held 104 fundraisers by March 6th this year, compared to 94 held by Presidents Carter, Ronald Reagan, George Bush Snr, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush combined.

If these figures are accurate, and apparently they are, I don’t know what is more contemptible: that the most ethical President ever has spent more time raising money than his 5 predecessors combined, or that virtually no one within the mainstream media has seen fit to track and report this. I don’t know, might this possibly have some connection to the fact that President Obama has no legislative accomplishments to speak of over the past year? Just spit-balling here, but this seems like a story angle the media probably would have shown an interest in from say 2001-2008. After all, they seemed pretty interested in tracking the number of rounds of golf President Bush played. But I guess even this is no longer considered newsworthy since, with 93 rounds of his own, President Obama has already exceeded his predecessors total over two full terms by almost a 4 to 1 ratio.

The President seems to be staking his re-election on his campaign’s ability to portray Mitt Romney as someone who is unable to relate to the concerns of the average working American. But I can’t imagine that the average American will look very favorably on a President who has spent such an inordinate amount of time on the links, and jetting around the country looking after his own future. With millions of Americans still struggling to find work, and millions more having all but given up hope, this has to be more than just a little disconcerting. Expect the GOP to shine a light on this early and often.

# of fundraising events (split them out 1 per day)
# of rounds of golf (split them out 1 per day)
# of days O’s been on vacation (I know that they aren’t ever “on vacation”, but Hawaii and the like make striking images of “Obama Isn’t Working”)

Show those against images of the average worker’s M-F time on the job..

Rest assured, there will be round the clock coverage of every vacation Romney takes, a financial analysis, to the penny, of every penny that Romney spends, and most importantly, how many fundraisers he holds, all pertinent information (meaning all information) about who attends the fundraisers, how much money is raised, and how expensive Mitt and/or Ann’s clothes are.

If you think the negligence of the media is glaring when it comes to ignoring things like this, wait until you see how extensive the coverage will be in a Romney presidency. It will be so apparant that what the media is doing is simply covering up for Obama.

This is his m.o. This is exactly what he did as a U.S. senator. Wasn’t it something like 18 months after he won his seat he began campaigning for the presidency? I would be willing to bet he made the same jump from state to U.S. senate as well.

While he was in the senate he accomplished a ridiculous amount of “present” votes though. Eerily similar to what he has done as president.

He has been campaigning since day one. It appeared that way to me because he was running around from state to state still trying to sell himself. The man hasn’t stopped campaigning and this has been patently obvious to people paying any attention to him.

Obama has hosted more fundraisers than the last 5 presidents…combined

Of course he has. And it ain’t over yet.

Obama, et al., have found the perfect way to keep the money rolling, the weakest link in any Ponzi scheme.

And to reward those who “invested” earliest, there is always the public trough to feed the most loyal of loyal pigs who foisted Obama upon the Nation, should the fund raising falter.

Timmy Geithner, remember him? Remember when Congress was told that any delay…any delay…in Geithner’s confirmation by Congress would have a terrible and bad and costly effect on the overall economy? Timmy was the only one, the only one, out of the entire population of the United States who understood the nuances and intricacies of the sweeping changes necessary to fix the economy?

Does anyone remember any of this?

Well, Geither was the only fully on-board trusted and able insider confidence man on Team Obama, and Team Obama was not going to allow an outsider to muck up the works.

The next weakest link in any Ponzi scheme.

Keeping the “investors” happy…and quiet, very quiet, can be accomplished easily when you have access to the sort of funds Team Obama now has, and has had since way before the 2008 election.

The number is at the bottom of the screen, keep calling, keep making those pledges, the Obama will take care of you in fine fashion.

This modern age has taught me that you can fool enough of the people enough of the time for a second Obama term. I firmly believe there is a sizeable percentage of the population that does not see and/or does not care about Mr. Obama’s failings. They are apt to hold Mr. Obama blameless for any perceived failings or weaknesses and put the blame squarely on those nefarious Republicans and racists out to get him.

Unless what’s left of the non-delusional, non-dependent American population unites, votes, and persuades others to see the light, President Obama will be our President for another four years.

While it is not possible to know for sure, the Democratic Party is probably paying more than other presidents have for Air Force One because of a regulatory change in 2010. Instead of repaying the government based on the cost of first-class commercial airfare, as presidents had since Jimmy Carter defeated Gerald R. Ford, reimbursements must now reflect the cost of chartering a 737 aircraft. (Air Force One, the name for whichever plane in the fleet carries the president, is usually a 747.)

Past presidents have been accused of adding official events to political trips to reduce their campaign’s spending, but Mr. Schultz said that was no longer an issue. “The fact that there is an official event on the schedule doesn’t reduce the travel costs paid by the campaign to the federal government,” he said.

President George Bush made more political trips “than any president in history” before the 1990 midterm elections, The Los Angeles Times wrote, and “by mixing official and political travel” passed much of the cost to taxpayers. Bill Clinton, newly re-elected, “may well have set a record for political travel” in 1997 as he flew to fund-raisers to erase Democrats’ debt, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

And George W. Bush was “using Air Force One for re-election travel more heavily than any predecessor, wringing maximum political mileage from a perk of office paid for by taxpayers,” The Associated Press wrote in 2004.

damian1967 on April 30, 2012 at 1:22 PM

So where do you do your research, the Huffington Post? From a CBS News article.

So far, President Obama has taken 61 vacation days after 31 months in office. At this point in their presidencies, George W. Bush had spent 180 days at his ranch where his staff often joined him for meetings. And Ronald Reagan had taken 112 vacation days at his ranch.

180 days is a hell of a lot fewer than 225, no?

And BTW, there is a huge difference between going home for the month of August where there was a permenant Secret Service detail and logistics and these weeks of mooching on an estate in Martha’s Vineyard or Hawaii where all the security and logistics have to accompany the President. In short, the President is always on the job. It is the cost of these pleasure trips under Obama that is offensive.

And that is because you are a bigot and a hypocrite who is spinning for your Obama. You have no principles, values, or sense of right and wrong; you are a blind bigot who rationalizes everything that Barack Obama does and attacks everything that George Bush ever did.

People realize that you are a hypocrite. They realize that you and your fellow Obama supporters openly spit on and break the rules that you try to apply to others. You cheat on your taxes, you steal government funds, you abuse governmental authority, and when caught you bleat and scream about how it’s OK because “Republicans did it”.

See here you go assuming again, I never voted for Obama, I voted for McCain.

I also will most likely not vote this election because I do not like either candidate.

So stop your assuming, and lieing bull.

Remember when the leftists complained that Bush golfed too much?

Where are they now?

If you learned how to read, 180 days at his ranch, that doesnt include the other vacations he took.

The problem is that W. wasn’t thrifty. He was the most expensive vacation president in US history. Not only did Bush spend more days on vacation than any other president, but he used Air Force One more often while on vacation than any other president

Obama needs to grow a Evil Spock goatee…

SWalker on April 30, 2012 at 12:09 PM

Evil Spock would make a much better President than Obama.

As I said early in y1, throw away the keys to AF1 and get you butt in the oval office and get to work. He’s been campaigning since day 1.

What were you saying?

damian1967 on April 30, 2012 at 1:22 PM

Comparing going home on weekends to 5 star getaways. No leftist piece of garbage has never thought of floating that turd here before…

Now that proves the premise of this article false in what way again?

My biggest beef with W. was that he spent almost all of August 2001 on his ranch, and while it was a working vacation he had no meetings on Al-Qaida until after 9/11. Who knows whether 9/11 could have been prevented if he had been more proactive?

It’s probably difficult to find an unbiased source, but my impression is that Obama uses Air Force One more than W. All the Presidents use Air Force One when they fly. If your source is citing the use of Air Force One to fly Bush back to his ranch, but not including Obama’s trips on Air Force One to fly to Ohio to give a quick election speech it’s probably not a fair comparison of appropriate use of taxpayer dollars vs inappropriate use. It also seems that the associated expenses for the SS are higher with the Obamas because the destinations are more expensive. It also seems like there are a lot of extraneous family vacations with his family-like the 25 SS agents with the daughter in Mexico for Spring break for a week. It’s also the seperate jets for the dog and for Michelle and the $500,000 for the Spin trip, etc. that are infuriating.

But he was a “Professor of Constitutional Law” right?
I get so frustrated when I hear this nonsense regurgitated time after time from so many ‘talking heads’ in the LSM.
There are basically four levels of instructors at the collegiate level: first there is the lecturer/instructor commonly held by recent post grad students most have completed their ‘prelims’ and are about to be awarded their PhD’s. To serve their penance for the department they teach in the classroom or a lab for a few semesters. Undergrad upperclassmen or master’s candidates usually grade papers/tests.
Next is the Assistant Professor it is the first step on the formal academic ladder. After a few years of fealty toward the chosen institution with many recognized/juried publications and bringing in numerous grant monies, they are promoted to Associate Professor. This is a ‘transportable’ position that has the power of recognition from other institutions. Sometimes if the politics of a given department change an Associate will ‘transfer’ to either another department for a chance to gain another rung on the ladder or if worse comes another university/college. Lastly is the Professor. This takes many years up to decades to receive such a mantle.
Barry Soetoro Barack Hussein Obama, a.k.a The Once, WAS NOT a college professor. Get it?
Now, please LSM go forth and perform a shocking bit of journalistic honesty and STOP calling President Present a Professor of Constitutional Law. He was NOT!

All valid points, my point is both parties have abused it, and it will only get worse unless it is reigned in.

damian1967 on April 30, 2012 at 2:56 PM

But I can’t imagine that the average American will look very favorably on a President who has spent such an inordinate amount of time on the links, and jetting around the country looking after his own future.

I hate to point this out, but it seems the country is presently divided, roughly 50-50, on re-electing Obama. I can’t imagine anybody wanting to re-elect him, either, but I’m a Libertarian. All I can say is don’t expect much, when half the country’s voters are space cookies, and 20% of the country will vote for that jerk, no matter what. That leaves about 30% who are just clueless.
