Obamateurism of the Day

posted at 8:01 am on April 25, 2012 by Ed Morrissey

Joni Mitchell once sang:

Don’t it always seem to go

You don’t know what you’ve got ’til it’s gone.

Apparently, the Obamas sing this regularly, but they mean that we don’t know what we’ve got in them, according to Jodi Kantor’s new book, The Obamas, as Jim Geraghty reports.  When they went to Oslo to collect the Nobel Peace Prize, the Obamas began complaining to their friends that Americans just didn’t appreciate their genius, or something:

But amid the bad news and pressures of late 2009, the trip unexpectedly passed like a brief, happy fantasy for the president, a Nordic alternate reality where citizens were learned and pensive, discussions were thoughtful, and everyone was a fan. “It wasn’t hero worship,” said one adviser who accompanied them. “Okay, it was.”

For one day, the Obamas lived in the dream version of his presidency instead of the depressing reality. At meals and receptions, they mingled with the members of the Royal Academy – government officials, academics…

The trip spurred a thought the Obamas and their friends would voice to each other again and again as the president’s popularity continued to decline: the American public just did not appreciate their exceptional leader. The president “could get 70 or 80 percent of the vote anywhere but the U.S.” [President Obama's old friend] Marty Nesbitt told [another old friend of Obama] Eric Whitaker indignantly.”

Er, okay. And this disenchantment with American voters took place less than nine months into his term.  What exactly had Obama accomplished to warrant “hero worship”?  Or for that matter, the Nobel Peace Prize?

I’ve got an idea.  Maybe the Obamas should leave the US in January and live in Norway a few years.  When we miss him enough, he can come back — but, Mr. President, don’t call us … we’ll call you.

Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at obamaisms@edmorrissey.com with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.

Not a bad idea but my vote would be for Kenya or Indonesia take him on for a few years. Let him really explore his roots instead of merely reading what Ayers wrote about them.

Every prophet has this problem, they think they are beloved and above all…Obama the prophet is a fool like all self proclaimed prophets.
Here is a reality check…Prophets are not elected, prophets are not chosen by man…and they don’t exist because “they win” or “they were owed” or “they were in line”.

Houston, we have a problem. No one could ever top Valerie Jarrett’s Obamism:

In his biography of Obama, “The Bridge,” David Remnick, editor of The New Yorker, quotes White House senior adviser and longtime Obama friend Valerie Jarrett: “I think Barack knew that he had God-given talents that were extraordinary. He knows exactly how smart he is. … He knows how perceptive he is. He knows what a good reader of people he is. And he knows that he has the ability — the extraordinary, uncanny ability — to take a thousand different perspectives, digest them and make sense out of them, and I think that he has never really been challenged intellectually. … So what I sensed in him was not just a restless spirit but somebody with such extraordinary talents that had to be really taxed in order for him to be happy. … He’s been bored to death his whole life. He’s just too talented to do what ordinary people do.

Maybe we could appreciate their genius if they’d show it to us. Instead, they insist on keeping it completely hidden from public view, along with their college and law school transcripts, their SAT and LSAT scores, their Bar records, etc.

Hmmmmmm. Wonder if there is any connection . . . . ?

I just got back from SEAsia and Indonesia is taxing coal exports since the “people” own them. Just like the Bill O’Reilly philosophy.

This is why when it all comes crashing down (and it’s started, the way Barry has been behaving lately is probably the result of their own internal polls showing the certainty of his defeat) he is going to launch into the podium pounding of ALL podium pounding rants…

“YOU PEOPLE HAVE FAILED MEEEE!”

“YOU HAVE PROVEN UNWORTHY OF MY LEADERSHIP!”

“LET ME BE CLEAR, WE CANT WAIT FOR ANOTHER MESSIAH, SO I HAVE DEEMED MYSELF RE-ELECTED!”

It’s going to happen. Hussein has never had to face rejection in his whole life. He is the classic narcissist. He is what you get when a child is allowed to go 50 years without ever hearing the word “NO”.

I may not particularly like Mitt Romney but the way he’s run his campaign so far is brilliant. He’s swift to react to Barry’s immature prods and has so far managed to make each one a mockery that has backfired on Obama. That alone may make Teh Narcissistic Won implode, boy-emperors don’t take being mocked very well.

The president “could get 70 or 80 percent of the vote anywhere but the U.S.”

Sure am glad this is still a center-right nation. The disenfranchised 52%, (that put him in office), still believe they didn’t get what Obama promised—”a free chicken dog in every pot”—despite spending, (and wasting) 5 trillion dollars in added national debt.

Rovin on April 25, 2012 at 8:30 AM

I much prefer Obama be given the Lieutenant Philip Nolan treatment…as in Edward Everett Hale’s “The Man Without a Country.”

Banishment…never being permitted to see, have contact with, hear about, nor ever set foot on American soil for the remainder of his days.

Rather than permit Obama (and his closest minions) the opportunity to live large, to step into commercialized celebrity, to make money off the travesty they have visited upon the American people, banish them, all.

Maybe being stripped of their perks of being Americans, they might learn humility, and maybe, just maybe, a new reverence for this Nation and the institutions upon which it was founded.

But, given the personalities and core beliefs of these Obamatrons and of Obama himself, I seriously doubt they’d learn a thing…certainly not humility. And reverence? Not a chance.

No, it wouldn’t have.

Barry and Moochelle’s charmed lives have been full of instances of piles of gold being handed to them on golden platters for no particular reason.

The pair of them are perfect examples of why the black community has been ruined by affirmative action. Whatever potential they ever had never got realized because they never had to work for anything in their lives.

wildcat72 on April 25, 2012 at 8:37 AM

Take Obama,
Please!

Obama (and the Mrs. and his staff) really wants to be a fantasy President-it’s something more like the Queen of England or Miss America. Lots of adulation and pomp and ceremony, Air Force One, the Secret Service, paid vacations all over the world, without any actual real responsibility. He wants to be a celebrity politician. He doesn’t have the intellect or curiousity or industry to actually do the work necessary to be a functional leader-witness 3 years with no budget. The hypothetical 70-80% who would vote for him seem to have the sole criterion to be the ability to stand in front of a crowd and wave and have his picture taken. He really doesn’t have any other ability or interest. If any other country wants him, they can have him. Good bye and DLTDHYOTAOTWO.

Yep, we should be thanking them. So thanks “genius” Obamas for the 5 Trillion in new debt, the gas prices that are now more than double what they were when you took office, the stagnant economy, the still-dead housing market, the double-digit real unemployment numbers, the disastrous new entitlement known as Obamacare (because with Social Security and Medicare/Medicaid circling the drain, what we really needed was another unaffordable, unsustainable entitlement program), Assad murdering who knows how many citizens in Syria, the Iranian mullahs on the verge of going nuclear, the Muslim Brotherhood taking over Egypt, AQ running Libya, Mexican drug gangs (armed by Obama’s DOJ) controlling our southern border, racial tensions running high (and groups of black thugs assaulting whites to get “justice for [Obama's would-be son] Trayvon” . . . .

Wow, just imagine the shape we’d be in if we didn’t have these “geniuses” in charge.

Trafalgar on April 25, 2012 at 8:43 AM

Obama’s true legacy will be that he knew how to make nothing look like something special, but unfortunately once he was trapped in the role of President he couldn’t perform his single magic trick any longer. Real results can be spun by a friendly and corrupt media only so far before collapsing under their own weight and revealed as failures.

So the best he and his team can manage from here on is to blame EBO (everyone but Obama) for failing to recognize his genius and for sa botaging his plans for ‘Eutopia’ in America.

We, Americans have become far too obedient of government Diktats.

Whenever the government mandates something, if it cannot be explained to the lay person within 5 minutes or less, with cited examples to be part of an Enumerated Power, or a power granted in a Constitutional Amendment, it need not be respected or obeyed.

Anything not enumerated in the Constitution should be presumed UNCONSTITUTIONAL until proven otherwise.

The narcissist:

* Feels grandiose and self-important (e.g., exaggerates accomplishments, talents, skills, contacts, and personality traits to the point of lying, demands to be recognised as superior without commensurate achievements);

* Is obsessed with fantasies of unlimited success, fame, fearsome power or omnipotence, unequalled brilliance (the cerebral narcissist), bodily beauty or sexual performance (the somatic narcissist), or ideal, everlasting, all-conquering love or passion;

* Firmly convinced that he or she is unique and, being special, can only be understood by, should only be treated by, or associate with, other special or unique, or high-status people (or institutions);

* Requires excessive admiration, adulation, attention and affirmation – or, failing that, wishes to be feared and to be notorious (Narcissistic Supply);

* Feels entitled. Demands automatic and full compliance with his or her unreasonable expectations for special and favourable priority treatment;

* Is “interpersonally exploitative”, i.e., uses others to achieve his or her own ends;

* Devoid of empathy. Is unable or unwilling to identify with, acknowledge, or accept the feelings, needs, preferences, priorities, and choices of others;

* Constantly envious of others and seeks to hurt or destroy the objects of his or her frustration. Suffers from persecutory (paranoid) delusions as he or she believes that they feel the same about him or her and are likely to act similarly;

* Behaves arrogantly and haughtily. Feels superior, omnipotent, omniscient, invincible, immune, “above the law”, and omnipresent (magical thinking). Rages when frustrated, contradicted, or confronted by people he or she considers inferior to him or her and unworthy.

November 6, 2012 to January 20, 2013 could be one of the most frightening times in American History. You will have a narcissist who has faced REJECTION for the first time in his life STILL in power, still with the ability to destroy, in other words, still with the ability to exact REVENGE from those who “betrayed” “Him”.

The one thing Barry won’t do is go out quietly. He will try to take the country out with him. What will he do? Anything ranging from setting the bureaucracy loose on individuals to going completely nuts and ordering Texas to be nuked. And I am not exaggerating.

In the end, ironically, this may be the greatest “good” ever accomplished by Barry Hussein Soetoro: scaring the public into never again even CONSIDERING a democrat for high office ever again.

Yes, like work.

According to his schedule he rolls into the oval office any time from 11am to 3 pm, he goes through his multiple choice questionnaires to determine ‘policy’, but this is all broken up by constant golf, lunches and dinners, shootin hoops, yucking it up with celebrities, and fundraisers.

Policy-wise this really is the multiple choice presidency. It takes a certain kind of genius to produce policy on the fly by putting ‘Xs’ in boxes. I understand his aides have resorted to this because Bark is so intelligent he can’t read more than a couple sheets of paper.

It’s not because he’s lazy, stupid, or has wildly out of control ADD. It is the mark of true intellect.

I have thought since day one of this presidency that Obama will be the first ex-president of modern times to live abroad after his presidency ends (I pray that it is after only one term). He will relocate the girls and Michelle and Mother Robinson to some European nation where the girls will be enrolled in some pricey, private school and O will be a lecturer-in-residence at some noted university. It will be a Jackie O-like withdrawal from American society where he will be forever glimpsed and photographed and interviewed for his sagacity on what’s wrong with America, the nation he will have tried but failed to “fundamentally transform.” Just watch.

I saw that on Drudge earlier. The caption is “A rainbow is seen at the end of the wing to Air Force One as U.S. President Barack Obama arrives at Buckley Air Force Base in Colorado, April 24, 2012. REUTERS/Larry Downing”

Not surprised, expect the obamedia to go full throttle with halos, rainbows and impeccably creased pants even with yogurt on them.

But I am curious as to why it is on Yahoo Sports page.

Brat on April 25, 2012 at 9:36 AM

Sounds like O might have found one more thing he didn’t like about the U.S. He didn’t win his election with a 70-80% majority! Geez…this guy has so much pride that if he ever attempted to swallow it he would probably choke.

lynncgb on April 25, 2012 at 9:36 AM

The grass is always greener on the other side of the world. Maybe Americans don’t appreciate Owe and Moochelle because it was American’s $5 trillion he threw down the drain. Or maybe it was because it was American’s freedom that got tossed with Owebama Care. Perhaps Americans are a little upset with the czars they got under Owebama including a pedophile in charge of education.

That’s not an obamateurism. That’s just run of the mill regulation creep, that Big Business latches onto because it squashes the little guy, in this case, the family farmer.

And as the likes of Pawlenty already do the bidding of the ADMs, what exactly would change in a Mittens/Pawlenty administration?

MNHawk on April 25, 2012 at 9:53 AM

There’s a saying…not sure who said it first..
“Any intellegent person can throw money and labor at a problem. It takes a genius to solve the problem with no more money, and no more labor than you already have.”
By definition, Barry is no genius.

askwhatif on April 25, 2012 at 9:56 AM

Obama’s biography reveals his jealousy of the social and economic elites when he describes his feeling like an outsider in the law firm that recruited him, and his profound yearning to be like them even as he condemns them for his own political purposes.

His narcissism and complete lack of class was nowhere more evident than in his accepting the Peace Prize, having done nothing to earn it. And his complete lack of integrity was nowhere more evident than in hosting — and bowing to — the President of China at a state dinner in 2011 while the 2010 winner of the Peace Prize remained under house arrest in China.

It’s amazing and sickening that he managed to start his own mass cult. American society has gone to the dogs (and those who eat them).

Or, we might say, greatness is not conferred it is earned. And Obama has done nothing to earn that appellation. The worst part of it is, that his base does not care. He remains the liberal wet dream.

The cigarette tax Obowma passed early in his presidency helped American voters see through Obowma’s lies. He said no tax increases on anyone making below 1 million , 250k 200k a year.

Obowma is a liar and a socialist that hates America. Why would he want to fundementally transform the greatest country on Earth and punish success and reward failure and envy?

I used to think these people were truly sophomoric: having just enough knowledge to be fools.

I don’t even believe that anymore.

I now think they are the end result of an obsequious culture, where criticism is a crime.

rwenger43 on April 25, 2012 at 12:56 PM

Of all the stupid things Barack and Michelle Obama have said and done, I think the massive self-regard is the most irritating, if only because there’s absolutely no substance to back it up.

RebeccaH on April 25, 2012 at 1:01 PM

I have no doubt that a majority of the members of the Royal Academy (government officials, academics) are every bit as intellectually vapid and shallow as the Obama’s. The fact that he was being lauded for receiving an award he had neither earned nor deserved is proof enough of that. After all, in due time even the Peace Prize committee was embarrassed by having acted like rock star groupies.

SukieTawdry on April 25, 2012 at 1:02 PM

Remember that Barry’s basketball coach said that bench-warming Barry gained playing time by lobbying: “the starters have built such a big lead that it’s impossible for us subs to blow this game.” No wonder he doesn’t have a problem giving away American superiority in the world. This is his playing time, and he figures the starters will return and re-earn American advantages soon.

Barry learned to play by watching and analyzing. Not by doing. But he still enjoyed the fruits of victory.

He became identified as a basketball player because he was a minority who carried a basketball around with him. Not by playing. Yet he was recognized as a part of the championship team, in spite of his meager contributions.

He was pandered to by people who recognized him for what he wanted to be recognized as, not for what he had done.

So the Democratic Party created the Myth of Barack’s Credibility and perpetuated the biggest fraud in American history.

rwenger43 on April 25, 2012 at 1:08 PM

Maybe he is a super-genius but, if so, he’s abysmally unable to translate that super-genius-ness into anything remotely resembling effective leadership.

natasha333 on April 25, 2012 at 1:20 PM

Maybe the Norweigans, and other Europeans, are so impressed by the Obama’s because they’re okay with the whole royalty thing?

The two of them certainly behave as if they were king and queen.

Joni Mitchell once sang:

Don’t it always seem to go

Paving Paradise to put up a parking lot may be shortsighted, but
pulling up all the parking lots and burning down the stores only creates a desert.
