DWS: Don’t ask why Senate Democrats won’t pass a budget, because that’s process

posted at 10:41 am on April 25, 2012 by Ed Morrissey

Via RCP and Twitchy, how embarrassing is it when a news anchor on any channel has to explain the conference committee process to a member of Congress?  DNC chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) appeared on Fox News last night with Bret Baier, who asked the simple question: why haven’t Senate Democrats passed a budget?  Wasserman Schultz wanted to gripe about the House-passed Paul Ryan budget, but when Baier asked why the Senate hadn’t passed a budget resolution in 1,092 days, Wasserman Schultz scolded him for talking about “process.”  She did try to argue at one point that Democrats have proposed a budget — the White House budget from Barack Obama — but Baier forced her to change direction when he asked why the Senate hadn’t bothered to vote on it.

Take your Dramamine before clicking the link:

This is a pretty simple “process.”  Each chamber passes a version of the budget, and it goes into conference committee.  That’s simpler in the Senate than most other legislation, since filibusters cannot be used on budgets; a simple majority is all that’s needed to pass it.  In order to get a budget into conference committee, though, both chambers have to actually pass a budget in the first place, and it’s been three years and counting since the Senate bothered to comply with the law and produce an annual budget resolution.

This is a failure of leadership.  And last night, the Democrats’ leader failed miserably to defend a three-year-plus record of cowardice on budgeting.

She chairs the DNC and yet says she doesn’t speak for Reid or Senate Democrats.

Boy oh boy.

ButterflyDragon on April 25, 2012 at 1:34 PM

I mentioned this in an earlier thread, but to repeat; ain’t no way Reid is going to take direction from this woman. No Way !
A while back Pelosi pushed him and he fired back that he didn’t take orders from her.
Reid couldn’t care less what that twit says.

Jabberwock on April 25, 2012 at 1:58 PM

Just a couple of short notes. First, if the Republicans can’t beat any incumbent Senator on this alone, they’re incompetent. Secondly, has anyone asked the Master of Messaging, Chuck Schumer, why this hasn’t been done?

bflat879 on April 25, 2012 at 2:02 PM

Well, Obama’s grandfather was a polygamist. His father was already married when he “married” Obama’s mom, which makes Dad a bigamist and Obama a momzer. But we’ll ignore all that, I guess because “those people” just do those sorts of things.

AcidReflux on April 25, 2012 at 1:27 PM

this has been debunked long time ago, Romney’s grandfather was never a polygamist and he was married to just one woman, they moved to Mexico 5 years after the ban on polygamy here, in the US in solidarity with the Mormons that had to flee the country because of the persecutions, etc…but he’s always been married to one woman…methinks that idiot magnus confuses Mitt’s grandfather with obumba’s very father, the real polygamist…

jimver on April 25, 2012 at 2:10 PM

You’ve gotta hand it to her, she’s the perfect talking head for the liberals. She has one script and just repeats the same thing over and over again, no matter what the topic is. No deviation whatsoever so as to reveal how incredibly stupid she is.

stacman on April 25, 2012 at 2:11 PM

The lunatic-left d-cRAT socialist extremists actually are using the exact same budget they’ve had for decades – it’s called the “WE SPEND OTHER PEOPLE’S MONEY UNTIL WE DROP” budget. (BTW: It’s the exact same budget used by the euro-trash socialist government of Greece.)

TeaPartyNation on April 25, 2012 at 2:41 PM

Nancy Pelosi, 2006:

Budget discipline has been abandoned by the Bush Administration and its Republican congressional majorities. Congress under Republican control has turned a projected $5.6 trillion 10-year surplus at the end of the Clinton years into a nearly $3 trillion deficit– including the four worst deficits in the history of America. The nation’s debt ceiling has been raised four times in just five years to more than $8.9 trillion. Nearly half of our nation’s record debt is owned by foreign countries including China and Japan. Without a return to fiscal discipline, the foreign countries that make our computers, our clothing and our toys will soon be making our foreign policy. Deficit spending is not just a fiscal problem – it’s a national security issue as well.

Our New Direction is committed to “Pay As You Go” budgeting – no more deficit spending.

ITguy, 2012:

Budget discipline has been abandoned by the Obama Administration and the Democrat majorities. Obama and the Democrat majorities have tripled the deficit spending levels of the Bush and the Republican majorities (Obama and Democrats creating $1.587 TRILLION average deficit per year vs. $533 Billion average deficit per year under Bush and the Republicans) – including the five worst deficits in the history of America. The nation’s debt ceiling has been raised to $16.394 trillion.

Democrats were lying through their teeth when they claimed they were committed to “Pay As You Go” budgeting – no more deficit spending.

DWS is absolutely correct. The do nothing house is yet to pass one single jobs bill.
Political stunts that redistributes money from the middle class to the rich isn’t a jobs bill.

Uppereastside on April 25, 2012 at 11:05 AM

Wrong, but what can you say when you believe the woman, who claimed that Obamacare did not require people to carry health insurance????

http://majorityleader.gov/JobsTracker/

“We actually have not required in this law that you carry health insurance.” – Debbie Wasserman Schultz

Resist We Much on April 25, 2012 at 3:13 PM

It’s always difficult to watch this woman; if her mouth is moving, she’s lying. She seems to enjoy lying, and she’s a complete idiot. I love the way Bret just calmly swats at her – the little gnat.

Thank you all for allowing me to vent.

All Mitt has to do is stay focused on the failed policies of this administration. The only thing Obama has to run on is distractions and people are seeing right through that. The ones who don’t, or won’t, will be voting for Obama anyway based on his skin color or party line. Intelligent voters will vote based on substance.

I don’t know how the government can still get away with this. If I write a check for more money than I have in my account my check is bounced and I would get charged a fine for each check written.

We are not just spending well beyond any budget ever proposed in US history we have yet to see ANY TYPE of cuts to federal employees, departments, agencies, procurement…… NOTHING! They have cut NOTHING!

We have been in this cesspool of a fiscal nightmare across this great nation of ours for years now and these politicians and government “LEADERS” have done nothing to stem the flow of spending they are doing.

How much guts does it take for one of these criminals to stand up on the floor and state it loud and clear…. “WE DON’T HAVE ANY MONEY! Tomorrow we will meet to start closing down unnecessary and over staffed programs….. WE have had to do that in the private sector!

Trillions upon trillions of debt…. and this moron is not able to say… it is wrong, we know the American people deserve better? The whole reason we had the uprising of the “TEA-Party” was because so many of us are outraged at the fiscal raping of our country and our future. They are not clueless, they know exactly what they are doing… PLUNDERING a nation, enslaving a people… for decades to come.

“Elminate Medicare as we know it”

YAY! Keep saying that! Have Obama say it in a debate and then Romney can reply:

“GOOD! Medicare as we know it will be bankrupt and dead in 10 years! We must change it or it will go away for everybody!”

PastorJon on April 25, 2012 at 4:57 PM

Well the Ryan Medicare Coupon Program is not a Jobs Bill for starters.

Eric Cantor’s Hedge Fund Tax Giveway to the upper 1% is also not a Jobs Bill. Kapish??

Uppereastside on April 25, 2012 at 11:57 AM

Goverment doesn’t create jobs, idiot. The private sector does. Every government job is paid for by the private sector, as is every private sector job. Take more money out of the private sector, less expansion, fewer jobs and LESS TAXES collected. Leave more money in the hands of job creators (hint, the rich) and they expand their businesses, invest in new ones, hire people.

I’m sure you’re a big fan of the welfare reform Clinton and the GOP Congress passed, Ryan’s Medicare plan is based off of that. Give the money to the states, let people buy the health insurance that fits them. Every old person is just as different as every 20 year old, with different insurance needs. States can do better at fighting fraud than the feds in some huge building in Virginia.

PastorJon on April 25, 2012 at 5:06 PM

“To solve it we have to work together” – Oh, yeah, Deb. You mean like “we” worked “together” on Obamacare. Debbie Ramenhair, oxygen thief. I would like to see her permanently installed as head of the DNC; she represents so much of what is wrong with liberals in general and still has a huge laugh factor.

Just how many of the deadly sins can one woman (well we can argue that term, but for the sake of simplicity…) excersize in one minute? She had better hope there’s no such thing as Perdition, ’cause she’s certainly bucking for an invitation.

SteveThomas on April 25, 2012 at 5:38 PM

Didn’t the HOUSE vote on Obama’s budget? Didn’t it get ZERO votes? Why didn’t Baier ask the dipchit about that? Why didn’t she jump in and vote for Obama’s budget, if she loves it so much?

joedoe on April 25, 2012 at 5:57 PM

I get perverse pleasure from watching that woman.
I can’t help it. One would think there would be a more intelligent spokesperson but apparently not, because she is the Leader of the DNC.

Re. government budgets…

Since 1954, the cost of stuff has risen an average of about 700%.

Over the same period, the per-person cost of federal government has risen 3000%.

Obama’s trying to take over health care, supposedly to reign in the cost of health care.

But since 1954, health care costs have only gone up 2000%.

Instead of politicians taking over health care, let’s have health professionals take over politics.

How many Americans still don’t know the Senate hasn’t passed a budget in three years? The MSM won’t tell them and the alternate media still only reaches a small portion of the population. This is why I say, if I ever go postal, I’m going after the media, not the politicians. Snakes will be snakes. It’s the snake watchers who failed to warn us who deserve the roughest treatment.

Her complete incompetence is the perfect face for the modern Democrat party!

I am looking forward to massive Congressional wins over Democrats this fall, much more so that perhaps the POTUS race.

Keep being yourself DWS!

Watching a Pig squirm and play in the mud can be funny, but the fact that these Assholes are in charge…not so funny and oh so scary!!!

platypus on April 26, 2012 at 10:15 AM

If I were the Democrats (excuse me for one second, I just puked in my mouth at the thought of it), I would be doing the same thing. No budget. Why? Because the Obama has nothing to run on so instead of him letting the Senate debate the budget with the House in Conference Committee, the President wants to debate it in public for political reasons. Otherwise, what would he have to talk about?

He I saw the ring and pull string on her back a few weeks ago when she was leaving to podium of speech she ha read to U.S..

If you want to look at process look at how blindly the (D) follow a script that is prepared for them to read at a the right time to created a crisis (so COS Axelrlrod can solve) you will never find an original idea coming from her empty heads.

If she is the head (leader) of the DNC and Sen. Reid is a member of the DNC, then she has the ability to tell Sen. Reid what the party wants him to do. But, maybe the DNC see a limited future for Sen. Reid and the limit is non existent.
