Martin Bashir on Romney: Presidents who don’t drink haven’t done very well in office

posted at 5:23 pm on April 23, 2012 by Allahpundit

Via the Washington Free Beacon, what’s unusual about this isn’t Bashir looking for excuses to inject Mormonism into his coverage of Romney. That’s par for the course; he was much more heavy-handed about it last week. What’s unusual is that this is the closest to lighthearted that I’ve ever seen him, more a tribute to the edifying effects of booze than a serious knock on Mitt. You would think under those circumstances he’d jettison the whole segment as not worth the heat he’s going to take for dragging Romney’s faith into the debate, even implicitly, but no. I’m not sure where he goes from here over the next six months but I know who I’m betting on as biggest MSNBC newsmaker of the 2012 campaign.

As further reading, here’s a nice study asserting that the media’s coverage of Romney has been more positive than its coverage of Obama so far this year. Print it out and put it in a time capsule to be opened on November 7. Exit question: Does this mean the left now regrets all the “dry drunk” crap that was thrown at Bush while he was in office?

I think I will wait until the British have a successful Government before I take advice from them. I know plenty of successful people who do not drink. His observation is ludicrous.

Abe Lincoln may have been a teetotaler, but he knew when to put drunks in charge. Generals Mclellan and Meade were very sober types who failed miserably against the South. US Grant had been ashcanned from the army as a drunkard and was a ne’er-do-well before being called back into service for the war. He won battles. His enemies accused him of being drunk. Lincoln facetiously asked what brand he drank so he could send a barrel to ALL his generals :).

I would rather have a drunk liberal in the white house than a sober one. A drunk person can spend the time doing whatever with interns and leave the rest of us alone. A sober one would have a legislative plan and health care and anti-obesity campaigns et cetera ad nauseum ‘for our own good’.

Better a conservative than a liberal, but if we MUST have a liberal president better a drunk one. Can someone see to sending the white house the good stuff?

I heard an ad for Hugh Hewitt were he was saying the left is intellectually out of gas. This typifies that idea. When you start reaching for the drinking/non-drinking card you really are out of arguments to even filibuster with. Allahpundit should see this as a complete panic by the Democrats to make an argument for Obama but he won’t. He will glom onto the next poll and declare Obama a shoe-in.

speaking of great journalistic stories…

I wonder if he’s going to investigate that rump ranger Jay Parmley being involved with a MSNBC host? He’s already groped up a fellow worker and given his “girlfriend” the HIV so it certainly would be believable he’d be banging the guy that does the 10 o’clock time slot.

He was also at one time the largest distiller of whiskey in the US.
