Video: ‘If I Wanted America to Fail’

posted at 5:00 pm on April 22, 2012 by Morgen Richmond

A provocative new video from the folks over at Americans for Limited Government promoting a new project focused on economic liberty and free market policies. It’s very well done, if perhaps a little on the long side. Watch:

The message at the very end is especially poignant:

If I wanted America to fail I…I suppose I wouldn’t change a thing.

This is exactly right of course, and the prescription for change is more than just about electing a new president in November, or the GOP winning a majority in the Senate.  Yes, the destructive effects of big government on economic prosperity and individual liberty have been exponentially worse since Democrats won a majority in Congress in 2006. Culminating in the nightmare of 2009-2010. But America veered off course long before this, with both parties complicit in the growth of runaway government spending and the perpetual expansion of federal power.

I don’t think Democrats want America to fail any more than Republicans do, and I don’t think this is really the message of this video. But there is an immense contrast in the vision of what a successful America means between the left and the right. For many Americans, I daresay most, an America that seeks to maintain a facade of shared prosperity by confiscating more and more resources from the most productive among us, and placing them at the disposal of power-seekers in Washington D.C., is not a vision of success at all. It’s a recipe for decline, and friction in our society at a time when we should be seeking out and supporting more effective, and unifying, solutions to the challenges we face.

This is the choice we face at the ballot box this November.

I don’t think rank-and-file leftists want America to fail… they just don’t believe their actions will result in failure. They’ll just blame any failure on other people – those who were too greedy and immoral to sacrifice enough to make utopia happen.

The one who know what they’re doing, on the other hand… like Obama… now that’s conscious evil at work.

I don’t think Democrats want America to fail

I don’t think the average Democrat voter wants America to fail. They just don’t realize the policies their Party pushes will ultimately destroy America. I blame the MSM and the schools for their ignorance.
Democrat politicians on the other hand do want America to fail. They want a Socialist America.

redridinghood on April 22, 2012 at 6:01 PM

And it may depend on where you live. I know democrats here in Texas and I even know a couple democrat politicians. I just can’t say that all of them want America to fail, but I will agree that they are blinded by party loyalty.

GWB got blindsided when he went to DC. I guess he thought all democrats were like the ones he had worked with as Texas governor.

If I wanted a glorious victory over my opponents, I’d build an army of straw men and attack them relentlessly. I’d crow in self-satisfied smugness that they were unable to even respond to my assaults.

Why do we have a Department of Education? Who, exactly, do they educate?

Why do we have a Department of Energy? What have they done to lower the cost of or increase the availability of energy?

Why do we still have an Environmental Protection Agency?

Why do we still have a TSA?

If all four of those agencies/departments disappeared tomorrow, a year from now would we even care or remember them? Would it make our lives worse in any way if they were gone?

But every item spoken about is an initiative of Democrats. And, yes, it is the essence of the video.

He is talking about rank and file Democrats. Most of them would be horrified if they realized how their ignorance and stupidity is wrecking the country.

Rank and file Democrats suffer from (more accurately, they make all of us suffer from) their inability to get the big picture. ‘Smart’ Democrats can have terrific memories and be extremely clever calculating things, and they are champions at taking instructions from those they have previous accepted instruction to regard as authorities, but they are clinical imbeciles when it comes to actually having an understanding of things like the power and importance of free markets. In this way they are very much like biblical literalists who cannot understand the metaphorical nature of Genesis. They started learning convenient, useful error early in life, and now they are incapable of backing up and rethinking their views no matter how powerful the evidence is they are wrong. There is no authority they have taken instruction to respect that can lead them there.

It is the Democrat politicians who know perfectly well their thirst for power is going to destroy the country yet don’t give a rat’s ass.

Democrat politicians are evil. The Democrat rank and file are just stupid.

I’m not so sure. Perhaps they don’t want America as a country to fail, to cease to exist. But they do want the America we know to fail. That’s why they talk about the Consitution as a “living document” that needs to be ignored or changed or “evolve.” Why they claim Socialism isn’t a bad thing. Why they want to cherry pick the Constituional Amendments they support. They want our America to fail and their America to take over.

redridinghood on April 22, 2012 at 11:40 PM

Lets make a distinction here, an important one.

Democrats might not want America to fail. True enough, but it’s a blanket statement that does not hold water.

Not every democrat is a liberal, or a progressive, or marxist.
Not every republican is a conservative, but some are progressives.

So, I suppose it would be better if you said not ALL democrats want America to fail, just the liberal progressive socialists, which happens to include a few republicans.

That said, this video pretty much captures the essence of what these idiotic anti American progressive pigs want; to end America as we know it, knew it, so they can replace it with an even more hellish system that what’s ruined europe.

Liberal progressive socialists will deny this while frothing at the mouth. Democrats will deny this because of party identification and what it really means for their future if the public gets wise. Republicans, well, they’re all over the place trying to figure out which way the wind is currently blowing so they can set their sail to grab power and abuse it in their own way.

Independent minds are free minds.

Remember in November.

Depends on what you mean by “America”.

If you just mean the geographical place, the expansive piece of land between Mexico and Canada and the people who live there, I guess Democrats want them to have some kind of success and are not necessarily interested in promoting suffering.

If you mean by America the unique political experiment of limited government and souvereign individuals, divisions of power and federalism, free speech and property rights, Democrats and progressives want nothing less than its destruction.

Smuggled candy from home will be harder to do since chocolate and sugar prices have skyrocketed. And don’t mention coffee! From AMC to drive-ins. Heck, create a 3-D version for those that have their glasses on and pop out those “For Sale” signs!

ProudPalinFan on April 23, 2012 at 5:36 AM

One of the very few video’s I have ever watched here. Moving, powerful, truthful, and disturbing.

This is something that should have spots on TV. People will not like it… it will tick them off. Truth hurts, and this will force some to re think about things and life in general. It could wake just enough people who could tip the tables and turn the course of this country.

Well done … well done.

watertown on April 23, 2012 at 5:53 AM

Economic liberty? Thank (Nature’s) God that our forefathers weren’t so shortsighted as to think that freedom begins and ends with money. The left is aggressively attacking,in hopes of destroying, our rights, given to us by our Creator, whom they despise, include the right to conscience, speech, and life itself, for no man, court, king or dictator has authority over God.
Are we foolish enough to think that the very folks who would casually take human life, in or out of the womb, would concern themselves with the moral prohibition of taking by force, our property, including our money?

Don L on April 23, 2012 at 6:07 AM

It was a great video because it didn’t point any fingers or blame on any specific people or group. All the things the video mentions are happening now or have already happened. It will take generations to turn it around, and how do we educate the younger generations on what it will take for them to live in a free America once more.

bayam on April 23, 2012 at 2:58 AM

The name was picked (along with Edison and Ford) as an example of an American innovator and entrepreneur who probably would not have been able to succeed under the restrictive, over-regulated conditions now in existence in U.S. markets thanks to Obama. Jobs was a free-market capitalist with strong libertarian leanings. He refused to even have a license plate on his Mercedes. He was also very concerned about the degradation of education in the U.S., a decline that is directly attributable to the Democrats. And he was unhappy with Obama’s performance in office.

Jobs would probably agree with many of the statements contained in this video (although he might not have said so in public, to avoid angering his uber-liberal wife).

“ingenuity and innovation” is not something the gov’t does. Therefore, if we are talking about gov’t policy and leadership, we talk about things gov’t can and should do – like have a reasonable and effective energy policy – you know, the exact opposite of the energy policy favored by you and the left.

That the left actually believes that “ingenuity and innovation” flows from politics/gov’t demonstrates just how little understanding the left has of how the world works, or how gov’t works.

In fairness to the leftists, they don’t see it as “failing”, they see it as America becoming better by becoming more socialist / more like Europe.

The America leftists love is an imagined socialist utopia. They don’t love the real thing – the founding documents, the history, the people. They love the idea that they can turn it into some kind of great socialist state.

So, to them, stopping the current version of America is not “America failing”, it is “America getting better”.

What is truly sad is that America knows perfectly well that is the Democrat idea of love, yet she keeps taking the Democrats back.

Plenty of material for a string of sequels.

If I Wanted America To Fail…

Part II: “…I’d arm foreign drug cartels, and then use the inevitable violence and loss of innocent life that would follow as rationale for restricting the rights and liberties of the People under my rule.”

Part III: “…I’d bury the country under a mountain of debt and print billions upon billions in worthless currency to perpetuate the illusion of fiscal solvency.”

Part IV: “…I’d turn a blind eye to militant race-based organizations putting bounties on, and threatening the safety of American citizens’ lives.”

Part V: “…I’d do everything in my power to divide the citizenry along racial, gender, social, and economic lines, fomenting hatred and resentment among the People at every opportunity.”

Part VI: “…I’d put radical authoritarians like Eric Holder, Janet Napolitano, and Kathleen Sebelius in positions of power and grant them unprecedented levels of control over the lives and liberties of the commoners.”

If I were the devil … If I were the Prince of Darkness, I’d want to engulf the whole world in darkness. And I’d have a third of it’s real estate, and four-fifths of its population, but I wouldn’t be happy until I had seized the ripest apple on the tree — Thee. So I’d set about however necessary to take over the United States. I’d subvert the churches first — I’d begin with a campaign of whispers. With the wisdom of a serpent, I would whisper to you as I whispered to Eve: ‘Do as you please.’

To the young, I would whisper that ‘The Bible is a myth.’ I would convince them that man created God instead of the other way around. I would confide that what’s bad is good, and what’s good is ‘square.’ And the old, I would teach to pray, after me, ‘Our Father, which art in Washington…’

“And then I’d get organized. I’d educate authors in how to make lurid literature exciting, so that anything else would appear dull and uninteresting. I’d threaten TV with dirtier movies and vice versa. I’d pedal narcotics to whom I could. I’d sell alcohol to ladies and gentlemen of distinction. I’d tranquilize the rest with pills.”

“If I were the devil I’d soon have families that war with themselves, churches at war with themselves, and nations at war with themselves; until each in its turn was consumed. And with promises of higher ratings I’d have mesmerizing media fanning the flames. If I were the devil I would encourage schools to refine young intellects, but neglect to discipline emotions — just let those run wild, until before you knew it, you’d have to have drug sniffing dogs and metal detectors at every schoolhouse door.

“Within a decade I’d have prisons overflowing, I’d have judges promoting pornography — soon I could evict God from the courthouse, then from the schoolhouse, and then from the houses of Congress. And in His own churches I would substitute psychology for religion, and deify science. I would lure priests and pastors into misusing boys and girls, and church money. If I were the devil I’d make the symbols of Easter an egg and the symbol of Christmas a bottle.

“If I were the devil I’d take from those, and who have, and give to those wanted until I had killed the incentive of the ambitious. And what do you bet? I could get whole states to promote gambling as thee way to get rich? I would caution against extremes and hard work, in Patriotism, in moral conduct. I would convince the young that marriage is old-fashioned, that swinging is more fun, that what you see on the TV is the way to be. And thus I could undress you in public, and I could lure you into bed with diseases for which there is no cure. In other words, if I were the devil I’d just keep right on doing on what he’s doing.”

Paul Harvey, good day.

Elisa on April 23, 2012 at 10:51 AM

I like the video, but if I was trying to destroy America, I would not begin with energy. I would begin by trying to demoralize America. The original G.W. said in his farewell address:

Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports. In vain would that man claim the tribute of patriotism who should labor to subvert these great pillars of human happiness – these firmest props of the duties of men and citizens.

Look back into history as to what Adolf Hitler and the nazi party were able to accomplish politically. I bet the German people never fully realized in 1937-39 what they were in store for when Hitler began to rule Germany. Give Obama another 4 years, and we’re going to regret it for years and years to come. Obama won’t reach the scale of Hitler, of course. But even on a much smaller scale, he would do severe harm to this country’s financial structure.

But at the end of the day, neither party is going to change the jobs outlook in this country unless the trade deficits with China and BRIC countries are addressed. This is a trade issue, not a regulation issue, as demonstrated by the simple fact that under Bush only 3 million jobs were created in the US. This terrible job record wasn’t the fault of Bush or his regulations policy but a direct result of the global economy.

It may surprise you that Japan has literally no natural energy sources yet remains one of the most powerful economies in the world. In fact, there’s little correlation between domestic energy sources and economic or manufacturing might.

that is somewhat true, but how does that translate into arguing that America should not have a reasonable, rational energy policy and use its natural resources? Regardless, Japan is hardly the mighty economy it once was – Japan is going to be in for a very rough ride in the future. I just don’t get why leftists simply don’t want America to develop any of its resources. It makes no rational sense. Particularly when your idol O is spending American money to help other nations develop their resources. the only way that makes sense is if one assumes the people holding such positions really, really don’t want America to ever have any kind of rational energy policy. And why wouldn’t they want that?

Where did you people learn to talk in such an absurd language, Glenn Beck? The things that can happen when you watch too much TV.

We learn it day in and day out from liberals and their claims about conservatives. After being called a fascist (incorrect labeling by the way, as fascists were socialists) et al, for years and years by leftists, told we are racist, homophobes, sexist, want to kill grandma and all the other nonsense constantly spouted by leftists, we learned to return the favor and call a spade a spade. When an ideology wants to reduce everything to federal gov’t control – they are socialist.

You may be surprised to learn that regulations affecting technology, genetics, pharma, and other high growth industries are far less restrictive under Obama than at any time in the last decade.

That isn’t true and the link you cite doesn’t even remotely back up the claim.

But at the end of the day, neither party is going to change the jobs outlook in this country unless the trade deficits with China and BRIC countries are addressed.

that may also be true to some extent. But I suppose your ideas would be for protectionism – which will not work – instead of reducing the costs on businesses (regulations, obamacare, minimum wage requirements, taxes, environmental claims, OSHA nonsense (ergonomic chairs?), frivolous discrimination lawsuits, union laws).

The funniest thing to me though is a leftist now claiming that the admin isn’t responsible for the bad US economy – it is now beyond Obama’s control. Not what leftists said when Bush was in charge. When Bush was in charge every single thing that happened was Bush’s fault – higher gas prices, unemployment rise, etc.

I don’t think Democrats want America to fail any more than Republicans do

BWAAAAA HA ha ha. Is that PC-play nice speak or simply naivety? Maybe just humor…surely you kid?

Now of course we have a few communists and Marxists (oops, they prefer “progressive” don’t they?) in the Republican party, but it’s a drop in the bucket compared to the Democrat party-where it’s pretty much a requirement for a seat these days. Let’s not beat around the bush and tell it like it is.

Countries like Germany exhibit far more of all the above yet have stronger manufacturing bases and little to no annual deficit. The US isn’t going to become cost competitive with Vietnam or China, period. This reality should ignite a discussion about what steps a highly developed country can take to compete on its own strengths, not those of low cost third world countries where things like bribery and pollution are rampant.

Globalization was unleashed and there’s nothing the US can do to easily return to the good old days of the past when a middle class standard of living was nearly a birth right of every American.

bayam on April 23, 2012 at 3:39 PM

All,

Forward this link to Drudge often. Once this gets picked up by enough sites, people will talk. And if enough people talk the media will have to cover this, and then more and more people will see this. And if more and more see this, without the GOP saying a thing, they will connect the dots and realize that Obama and Team are destroying the USA.

Forward this to everyone you know, and to every site you know will post this.

Down with Progressivism.

this is where liberals problems are – just because Germany does something, doesn’t make it good or right. By the way – I don’t agree with you assessment of Germany. We can have that argument all day. But if you really like Germany so much, go there. Don’t try and make us more like Germany. That’s an option for you.

And the whole pollution bugaboo is nonsense. Even if we eased up on some of the more idiotic restrictions, we would not be living in a polluted cesspool. And what bribery has to do with any of it – I’m not sure.

And, by the way, I’m pretty sure this is about the most corrupt admin in a long, long time. So, your talk of bribery and third-worldism should be done lightly.

mark cantu on April 23, 2012 at 4:49 PM

It’s even worse to see Steve Jobs named in this video- a name picked because Steve is no longer alive to strongly object. Jobs was not a right winger and using his name to suggest otherwise is disgraceful.

The bit@h thinks it owns Jobs and his legacy. Seriously just quit. To think he was simply a flaming liberal is just a lie. Now gfy.

Guess what? Twitter has suspended the acct. Free speeck for conservatives?

The new American’s for Limited Government project Free Market America has had its Twitter account suspended. Twitter has given Free Market America no reason for the suspension. This didn’t sit well with conservatives who want answers.

I don’t think rank-and-file leftists want America to fail… they just don’t believe their actions will result in failure.

weew on April 22, 2012 at 8:51 PM

Well, I can only speak for my leftist “friends”; these are folks I’ve known pretty much my entire life, so they speak freely around me, and I can tell you all that they do despise America and would love to see it fail. They feel that America is raping the rest of the world, and that we need to be punished. No joke.

Starting to look that way.

Yep, sure looks like it. Completely nutless ‘moderate’ statement.
It is plain the environmental marxists setting policy and regulation do. It is plain the marxists in the Obama administration do. It is plain that the communists of the Congressional ‘Progressive’ Caucus do.
Yet here’s another chosen figurehead who can’t seem to speak those truths.

While I have no doubt Jobs was left-of-center in the politics he espoused, the question is, what were his politics in action?

I bet he paid a lot of lawyers and accountants to keep as much money from the gov’t – personally and for Apple – as he could.

I’ll bet he did not like gov’t regulation of his business and fought against / railed against it and/or circumscribed it.

I’ll bet he did not personally “spread the wealth” that much.

I doubt he sent his kids to public school.

I doubt he lived / associated with the less fortunate.

I doubt he hired based on affirmative action.

So, while he said all the politically correct things in CA, his actions probably did not live up to his political rhetoric – which is true of almost every wealthy liberal. I’ll take someone’s actions over their words for what they really believe most times.

And, ultimately, it is easy for a wealthy person to support liberalism. They know that the ravages of liberal policy will not directly effect them, as they will still be able to hide money from uncle Sam with their army of lawyers/accountants, they will live in their gated communities and can pay for the best doctors (even leaving the country for medical services if it become necessary), and because of their wealth, they will have access and influence so can use that to deal with problems caused by the gov’t. Being a wealthy liberal is basically pulling the ladder up after you make it to the top so nobody else can reach the top.

I would bet you would find a lot more liberals among the wealthy than you would among the almost rich, the people starting up businesses and the middle class. These people know that the gov’t only puts up barriers to success, it cannot create success.

Monkeytoe on April 24, 2012 at 8:19 AM

it cannot create success.

Sure it can. You just have to bribe the right guy.

fadetogray on April 24, 2012 at 8:45 AM

Well… looks like they are under some kind of attack at Free Market America. One, their site is down. Two, Twitter suspended their account but then re-instated it at midnight. 3. I tried sending them an email and gmail returned my email and said they don’t deliver mail to them, try some other email service.

I strongly suggest that you consider keeping that link to the “If I wanted America to Fail” video current until after the election.

It is so powerful and any chance to expose to new views should be taken, thin.
