Open thread: Sunday morning talking heads

posted at 8:00 am on April 22, 2012 by Allahpundit

Easy choice this week. Do you want to watch Joe Lieberman spin the trophy photos in Afghanistan, Susan Collins and Peter King despair over the Secret Service sex scandal, Axelrod drone on about lord knows what — or George Will strain to tolerate Keith Olbermann’s presence on the “This Week” panel? C’mon.

Here’s the line-up via WaPo. Exit question: Will Olby temper his perpetual theatrical indignation for polite company this morning or is table-pounding outrageous outrage on tap for his big moment on a show that people actually watch?

NBC’s Meet the Press: David Axelrod, Obama campaign chief strategist; Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA), Rep. Peter King (R-NY); E.J. Dionne, Brookings and Washington Post; David Brooks, New York Times; Helene Cooper, New York Times; Chuck Todd, NBC

ABC’s This Week: Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME); Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX); Keith Olbermann; George Will, ABC; Donna Brazile, political strategist; Matthew Dowd, political strategist; Peggy Noonan, Wall Street Journal

CBS’ Face the Nation: Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT); Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX); Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD); Tom Comburn (R-OK); Norah O’Donnell, CBS; Stephanie Cutter, deputy Obama campaign manager; Eric Fehrnstrom, senior adviser to Romney campaign; Melinda Henneberger, Washington Post; Major Garrett, National Journal; John Dickerson, CBS; Cornel West, Princeton University; Tavis Smiley, talk show host

Fox News Sunday: Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT); Gov. Mitch Daniels (R-IN);

CNN’s State of the Union: David Axelrod, Obama campaign chief strategist; Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL); Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD); Dana Bash, CNN; Jeff Zeleny, New York Times

How can anyone be so stupid as to hire Olby?

EliTheBean on April 22, 2012 at 8:07 AM

And there we all were thinking Olbermann was about to disappear forever.

ABC knows where to scrape up some cheap theatrics, that’s for sure.

It has been obvious for some time that “this Week” needs more balance to counter George Will.

Olbermann? My God, ABC, at long last, have you no sense of decency?

Rational Thought on April 22, 2012 at 8:09 AM

Olby must have swiped those glasses off of Brezhnev’s corpse. Explains a lot.

ABC This Week sent out this tweet about an hour ago.

The #ThisWeek roundtable: @KeithOlbermann, George Will, @donnabrazile, @matthewjdowd and @Peggynoonannyc. What should they discuss?

I responded with this:

@ThisWeekABC Why not discuss why the DOJ is directing inquiries about #FastandFurious to @mmfa and scrubbing web info? http://bit.ly/HUtV0X

And this:

@ThisWeekABC @donnabrazile @Peggynoonannyc Why not discuss why Jon Corzine is still bundling for the Obama Campaign http://is.gd/kEANUr

I can’t stomach Stephanopoulos AND Olbermann this early.

Someone please let me know if they take my topic suggestions, ok? /

Since Olbermann has “nothing to lose” after losing everything else, (dignity, self-respect, credibility), it would be tough to see the indignant one in a self-controlling atmosphere. I’d keep a fire extinguisher handy, along with a straight-jacket.

Conservatives and Republican’s have to stop going on shows where there is an OBVIOUS partisan slant. Yes – I am talking about ABC. Stephanopulos, Brazille and NOW Olbermann? These are ALL DNC operatives. Hell, Stephanopulos proudly fired the first shot in the “War on Women” during an ABC DNC“Sponsored” debate.

ABC/Disney obviously has a dog in this fight. Why haven’t we, as Conservatives, identified it and cut it off? ABC has no journalistic credibility as they are consistently acting on the behalf of the DNC.

I still think the DNC is trying to extricate itself from Bill Maher, in light of Stephanopoulos’ dog whistle hint last week. Maybe having Olbermann on the panel is in furtherance of some further dog-whistlely stuff. It certainly can’t be because Olberphant (did you see those pix of him the other day?) has anything worthwhile to say.

ABC’s This Week panel is usually skewed way Left. Occasionally Will is the only balancing factor. And I long ago grew tired of the likes of Donna Brazile, Arianna Huffington, who rarely offer anything of value, and the nasty Katrina vanden Heuvel, who spouts bile and seems barely able to control herself, she is so angry.

And they just had one of the worst race baiters in the country, Eric Dyson, on the panel.

Now Olbermann? Sorry, but that is one giant jackass too far.

Is it an audition for a role at ABC?

I haven’t watched one of these shows in 20 years, back when my parents would have them as background noise for getting ready for church or preparing breakfast. These shows only still exist as a weekly awards show of sorts to bestow honors such as “best talking points regurgitator”; “least effective cconservative”; or “most soothing leftist.”

cabbie25 on April 22, 2012 at 10:53 AM

Olby on his super-best behavior (or multiple doses of Ritalin), praises part of Sarah Palin’s comment on the Secret Service scandal (Matthew Dowd ends up as the one criticizing Palin for pinning the blame for the scandal on Obama). We may have to wait for Keith’s Twitter feed for him to ‘revise and extend’ his generally bland remarks on Stephanopolis’ roundtable.

jon1979 on April 22, 2012 at 10:54 AM

I didn’t know Olbermann had gotten so fat. I still don’t know what he has to worry about. He’s got 35 million bucks in the bank. If it were me, I would be enjoying the rest of my life.

Blake on April 22, 2012 at 10:55 AM

Let’s do a quick partisan/ideological scoring:

NBC: liberal; conservative; conservative; liberal; liberal; liberal; liberal; Host-liberal.

ABC: liberal; 2 fringe-left Kooks; conservative; liberal; liberal; liberal; Host-liberal.

CBS: Liberal; 2 fringe-left Kooks; conservative; liberal; liberal; GOP; liberal; liberal; liberal; 2 race-victim fringe-left Kooks; Host-liberal.

Fox: DNC; GOP; Host-journalist/unknown.

CNN: liberal; conservative; liberal; liberal; liberal; Host-liberal.

Total Sunday Morning Media-Bias Score:

Fringe-Left-Kook: 6
Liberal: 23
GOP or conservative: 7
Fringe-Right: 0

How can anyone argue with a straight face that the mainstream media is not structurally, fundamentally a function of the liberal Democrat party?

Final verdict — Olbermann was definitely auditioning for a job with ABC or somebody today; virtually no hyperbolics, only one moment where he got his head chopped off (and even after Noonan did the cutting Keith got a little bit of moral support on his anti-big business spiel from Matthew Dowd, and he managed to play nice for the most part with Peggy, Matthew and George W, all of whom also seemed to go out of their way to keep this from turning into an MSNBC shout-fest (the person who did the most to put the dog eating story into context as a problem for Obama? Donna Brazile).

Olbermann and Will both ended up on mutual agreement that the 1960s-70s baseball stadiums sucked, and the new retro ballparks are better. Keith of course is perfectly capable of blowing his new image with some crack on Twitter before 12 noon today, but it’s definitely a concerted effort to show a ‘non-batshirt crazy’ Keith and get (sucker) someone into giving him another multi-million dollar contract…after which, he’ll just revert to his normal behavioral pattern, of course.

Nothing would be better than Olby getting a gig at FNC as the spoiler.

It would drive the progs freakin nuts to see Keith argue, but not be vindictive, with Hannity or even Bill O.

It’s still amazing to think the guy who stole Dennis Miller’s shtick for a sports anchor gig, has become the go-to guy for the left, for so long.

Donna jumped the shark, again.

Hopefully the shark did a last second pivot, opened wide and…..

“This is a narrative, and for Mitt Romney, he has to be concerned about the Seamus scandal because it might fit into this narrative that perhaps he’s not like us,” Brazile said.

Donna jumped the shark, again.

Schadenfreude on April 22, 2012 at 2:04 PM

When Brazille said “…not like us”, she meant that Romney refused to put Seamus out of his misery by eating him.

BTW, regarding jumping a shark, Donna, just like Obama, doesn’t jump over food she can wrestle onto a grill.

New WH motto: Dog, it’s not just for Indonesian state dinners or special occasions anymore.

I wonder what it says about the left that Mad Dog Olbermann had such a following? Maybe he was hired to make some others look normal, even good. Maybe someone at the network just wanted to keep him from the nut house. But there are so many others on the left why pick him. After 3 1/2 years and trillions of $$ with nothing to show for it, keith isn’t the only loon.

To quote Rip Torn in the Walter Hill directed and John Milius written, ‘Extreme Prejudice’ from 1987, regarding Sheila Jackson Lee.

“The only thing worse than a politician is a child molester!”

Jack Deth on April 22, 2012 at 12:42 PM

And to quote Jack Benny: “I’m thinking it over”.

How can anyone be so stupid Partisan as to hire Olby?

EliTheBean on April 22, 2012 at 8:07 AM

FIFY

Will Olby temper his perpetual theatrical indignation for polite company this morning or is table-pounding outrageous outrage on tap for his big moment on a show that people actually watch?

@FloraDuh1
So @KeithOlbermann will be joining @GStephanopoulos on @ThisWeekABC? Someone finally took Keefy by the hand and led him out of Central Park?

@KeithOlbermann
@FloraDuh1 Yeah. I was walking to my dentist’s office. Sorry you fell for that joke.

Does that answer your question?

Flora Duh on April 22, 2012 at 8:16 AM

; )

Bmore on April 22, 2012 at 10:52 AM

UPDATE:

I got blasted by Keefy’s little army for daring to speak ill of their Bathtub Boy.

When I returned fire, my Twitter account was suspended until I promised to never, ever, ever again mention @KeithOlbermann in a tweet.

Looks like Olby and his lapdog minions can dish out the ridicule but when it’s directed their way they cry foul.

Flora Duh on April 22, 2012 at 5:40 PM

Thought Olbermann died. Evidently only his career died.
