Van Jones thinks you should sit down and shut up

posted at 5:51 pm on April 21, 2012 by Morgen Richmond

Perhaps you’ve noticed, Van Jones has been all over the media the past couple of weeks hitching his wagon to the occupy movement in a shameless attempt to promote his new book, ‘Rebuild the Dream’. I suspect the vision of America which Jones dreams about is more focused on wealth redistribution than shared prosperity, but I’m borrowing a copy of his book and will perhaps offer up a more thorough critique next week. In the meantime enjoy the latest series of invectives from a man who made his opinion of conservatives crystal clear years ago. From an interview last week with Rick Perlstein at Rolling Stone (emphasis added):

What does “love” of country mean to you?

It means I love Americans—the people who actually live here, who look all kind of different ways, who pray all kind of different ways, who love all kinds of people. And I challenge the people who are the opponents of my values to explain how they get to be patriots. As I say in the book, they seem to distrust the American government. They seem to dislike most of the American people. They seem to resent most of America’s achievements over the last century, including unions and public education and environmental protection and so many of the things that made the American century the American century. So I don’t get why we don’t just tell them to sit down and shut up. They can complain if they like, but we have another century to win. We have another century to win!

I’m not even sure where to start with this. While conservatives have no exclusive claim to patriotism or love for America, Jones has transitioned from a dream-state to sheer hallucination if he really believes that labor unions, public education, and protection of the environment represent America’s greatest achievements in the last century. Really? I think there are just a few other items which most Americans would rank above public kindergarten, Jimmy Hoffa, and the EPA. You know, insignificant things such as the invention of human flight, defeat of the forces of oppression in two World Wars (and one Cold War), landing a man on the moon, and medical and other technology advances which have added immeasurably to the quality of human life on this planet.

Seriously, this must be one of the most asinine statements ever to go unchallenged in print. Utterly ludicrous.

Now as to his assertion that conservatives ‘dislike most of the American people’, again, what planet is Jones living on? Conservatives are most of the American people, and probably always have been. Van, see that dark green line in the graph below? That’s us. That light green line down at the bottom – that’s you. And if Gallup polled for one-time, self-identified communists now billing themselves as ‘progressives’, well I doubt very much that number would exceed more than 1%.

Personally I would include the civil rights movement as among our greatest achievements in the last century, so I find it interesting that Jones would evoke the ugliness which preceded this era in suggesting his opponents ‘sit down and shut up’ for daring to hold political views he disagrees with. But unlike Jones, the last thing I would want to do is silence him because he is truly the gift that keeps on giving. He wants to lecture conservatives about patriotism and distrusting the government? This is a man who less than a decade ago financed and promoted a rap album which proclaimed ‘f–k the government’, and on which he proudly aligned himself with the ‘global struggle against the U.S.’ An album narrated by convicted cop-killer Mumia Abu-Jamal which called for an end to the State of Israel, and the defeat of the U.S. overseas. Only a year earlier Jones’ Freedom Fighter Music produced it’s first album which promoted violence against the police.

If this is the type of real, ‘deep patriotism’ Van Jones has in mind, I think he has already lost this argument. His patriotism is so deep he has at least one foot in communist China, and with his track record producing and promoting anti-American bigotry, he really has no standing to be taken seriously on this topic. Yet I’m sure the liberal media parade will continue, because for ‘lefty dream boat’ Van Jones and his allies it’s those phony tea party patriots that must be stopped at all costs (video via the Daily Caller).

The Democratic Party is the party of and for the U.S. working class, a class which is multiracial, multinational, and unites men and women, young and old, employed and unemployed, organized and unorganized, gay and straight, native-born and immigrant, urban and rural, and composed of workers who perform a large range of physical and mental labor—the vast majority of our society. We are the party of the African American, Mexican American, Puerto Rican, all other Latino American, Native American, Asian American, and all racially and nationally oppressed peoples, as well as women, youth, and all other working people.

The living standards of workers and the natural environment on which life depends are under constant attack due to the drive for maximum profits inherent in capitalism. Our party fights for jobs and economic security, a decent and rising standard of living, peace, justice, equality, a sustainable environment, gay rights, health care, education, affordable housing, the needs of seniors, democracy, and a fulfilling life for everyone, with socialism as our goal. Only through the abolition of the capitalist system and the socialist reorganization of society can exploitation of human beings by others, and the evils of oppression, war, racism, environmental degradation, and poverty be ended. We seek to build a socialist society which puts people and nature before profits.

Our country’s founding Revolution exalted the ideals of equality, justice, and democracy, of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for all. Marxists have long hailed its progressive significance, while recognizing its historical limitations, chief of which was the failure to abolish slavery. The Democratic Party today upholds the continuing struggle to realize these ideals. The revolutionary democratic traditions of the United States call for radical change when injustice, inequality, and exploitation become unbearably oppressive. This legacy gives us, the working class and its allies, the right and responsibility to build a new society. We advocate an expanded Bill of Rights to guarantee religious, political, and individual freedoms, but also freedom from poverty, hunger, joblessness, and racism.

Racism plays a particularly destructive role in the life of our country, imposing severely impoverished living standards on tens of millions of the specially oppressed, and lowering the quality of life for all workers. Racism harms all workers, obstructing the development of working-class consciousness, driving wedges in class unity to divert attention from class exploitation, and creating extra profits for the capitalist class. The Democratic Party is unalterably opposed to all manifestations of racism, national oppression, U.S. national chauvinism, male supremacy, homophobia, and anti-Semitism, which are used by the enemies of progress to divide the working class and people’s forces. The principles of democracy, equality, justice, and class self-interest require a joint fight against all expressions of racism and gender oppression. We fight for full equality for all who suffer from racial, national, and gender oppression as an essential aspect of the unity that is basic to all social progress.

Issues of war and peace, wealth and poverty, ecology and pollution, racial and national division, gender discrimination, and international conflict are all connected to class struggle, and have common features on which to build unity among peoples, organizations, and coalitions. The working class as the necessary leading force along with the other core forces—all racially and nationally oppressed groups, women, and youth—can build a movement that also includes the many streams of our working people—such as family farmers, small business owners, and the self-employed—who united together have the power to make fundamental progressive change.

Peace is essential for the survival of the planet and humanity. The pursuit of world domination to further enrich capitalists has resulted in destructive wars, environmental devastation, and massive poverty. The Democratic Party fights for solidarity among the working class and peoples of all lands and supports their pursuit of self-determination over their own lands and economies. In the spirit of working-class internationalism, the Democratic Party builds the closest bonds with Democratic and Workers Parties throughout the world.

Founded in Chicago in 1919, the Democratic Party of the United States has an outstanding history in the struggles for peace, democratic rights, racial and gender equality, economic justice, union organization, and international solidarity. Our Party is organized on the principle of democratic centralism, combining maximum democratic discussion and decision-making with maximum unity of will and action, ensuring our ability to play a strong organizing role in the class struggle. We focus our efforts on increasing our ability to organize millions into struggle, fighting anti-communism as a divisive weapon of the capitalist class. With Marxism-Leninism guiding our actions, the Democratic Party strives to build the broadest unity against global capitalist imperialism now headed by U.S. imperialism, for immediate gains and reforms that benefit working people, and for a progressive democratization of the government, the economy, and society of our country on the road to and after winning socialism.

With pride in our past and confidence in our future, we hereby establish this Constitution of the Democratic Party of the United States America.

But oops! One important detail… that is not the Constitution of the Democratic Party

… it’s the Constitution of the Communist Party USA.

Our nation’s first Preisdent would question Van Jones’ patriotism…

Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, Religion and morality are indispensable supports. In vain would that man claim the tribute of Patriotism, who should labour to subvert these great Pillars of human happiness, these firmest props of the duties of Men & citizens.

- President George Washington

Religion and morality are indispensable supports to political prosperity.

President Harry Truman would say that the sooner that religion is taken out of our schools and our politics… the faster we end up with a totalitarian government.

The most important business in this Nation–or any other nation, for that matter-is raising and training children. If those children have the proper environment at home, and educationally, very, very few of them ever turn out wrong. I don’t think we put enough stress on the necessity of implanting in the child’s mind the moral code under which we live.

The fundamental basis of this Nation’s law was given to Moses on the Mount. The fundamental basis of our Bill of Rights comes from the teachings which we get from Exodus and St. Matthew, from Isaiah and St. Paul. I don’t think we emphasize that enough these days.

If we don’t have the proper fundamental moral background, we will finally wind up with a totalitarian government which does not believe in rights for anybody except the state.

- President Harry S. Truman

Van Jones sees Christian Tea Partiers as intolerant. But we tolerate him. It is he who is intolerant of us, even to the point of trying to silence us.

I remember a HotAir commenter from years ago saying:

Those who can’t handle the truth,
try to silence those who speak it.

I think that is spot-on here.

karma is going to run over van’s dogma then back up and run over it again.. 2012.

it’s the radicals , communists, and black panthers of the 60s who hated america, her constitution and the patriotism of average americans. they made no bones about it at the time- their hatred of america. they committed the foulest crimes in support of their ideologies- all of which were at least on face based in communist theory from the 19th century and the socio-economic politics of the 2nd industrial revolution as it unfolded in america with a heavy dose of racist theorizin’. they burned the flag, ranted about to viet nam and imperialism endlessly through the 80s, abused returning soldiers, and decried patriotism. they tried to break criminals out of prison and built bombs to blow up innocent civilians. they amassed weapons. then, when some of them were busted or blew themselves up, they went underground. they evaded the rule of law and justice while other radicals managed to worm their way into the power structure via their community organizin’. from breakfast for inner city children by day, bank robbing and cop target practice by night to middle class tenured professor or teacher and the school board in the ‘burbs with all the mod cons.

they re-emerged free as birds when a new generation of democratic politicians came to power-politicians of the radical’s own generation who also believed in all the same ideologies but opted to be involved in subverting the country from within rather than violent rabble rousing. the radicals called them sell outs at the time but are now like van happily riding their coat tails into power positions. and of course some rather handily made the transition from bomb throwing warrior of the people to city council and upward. how many of these freaks did clinton pardon ?

and that’s what gave us the insufferable barry and his cranky band of leftover has been radical commie minstrels of hate. so now the likes of van- who think at last they have the power that will put them over once and for all- who think they are the real ‘ patriots’ because they can finally destroy the constitution and capitalism- can roll out the double speak because the masses are too stupid to see the hypocrisy, lies, and prejudices. barry did not win 100% of the vote and he ran as a moderate not the flaming liberal marxist he is. barry the communist won via fraud and obfuscation not because america is majority communist, majority social justice subvert the rule of law according to race.

they are shameless-breathtakingly shameless because they have been allowed primarily by the 4th estate to get away with it. and they’ve been in our schools for several generations poisoning children who are most vulnerable to their supposedly peaceful egalitarian messages.

and it’s not working- and they know it- despite all the leverage they were given by the media they are pucked. the majority of americans are not communists. saying they are in effect communists just like you is more than wishful thinking- it’s severely delusional and presents the sort of sociopathy common to those who feel they are self sacrificing humanitarians with a belief in something greater whereas they are only addicted to the scent of their own power and position. a sad pathetic individual who believes he has superior insight that all must obey or else. that’s fascism and there’s nothing american about it but it’s all of what communism always is about and how kings , tyrants and communist dictators always rule-as fascists.

When I moved to the US, under Ronald Reagan presidency, I felt I could trust the government.

Now, not so much. Not when this monkey’s ass*ole is the shining boy of V. Jarrett. Why would I trust the government when he has their seal of approval? If anything, he should be checked out by the SS. He is not being patriotic, wishing that anyone that doesn’t agree with his commie ways would just shut up. Oh, I’m not shutting up any more. If we get too many more people of his ilk running amok, we will become the armpit of the world.

Oh and the only Movement he inspires in me is a bowel movement.

Amazing men.. the founders.. they knew as much as men could know in their time, but more that that,.. they were alert to the threats that we would face, even today after centuries have passed, they knew the dangers.

Samuel Adams, Patriotism quotes:
The liberties of our country, the freedom of our civil Constitution, are worth defending at all hazards; and it is our duty to defend them against all attacks. We have received them as a fair inheritance from our worthy ancestors: they purchased them for us with toil and danger and expense of treasure and blood, and transmitted them to us with care and diligence. It will bring an everlasting mark of infamy on the present generation, enlightened as it is, if we should suffer them to be wrested from us by violence without a struggle, or to be cheated out of them by the artifices of false and designing men.

An Egypt-styled “Arab Spring,” which has put radicals in charge of the government, will be launched in the United States this spring with a war on “corporate power, Wall Street greed and the political corruption of the 1 percent,” according to the group headed by former Obama green aide Van Jones.

“They’re really not going to like the 99 percent Spring,” said Rebuild the Dream in an organizing email Friday.

Comparing the collection of protests last year that are symbolized by the 99 percent campaign and Occupy movement, to those of Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr., the group said that “we were all inspired by the protesters of the Arab Spring who stood up to totalitarian governments, and inspired the Occupy movement here in America.”
