Poll: What was the Obamateurism of the Week?
posted at 9:00 am on April 15, 2012 by Ed Morrissey
Time again to take the extraordinary and unprecedented step of choosing the Obamateurism of the Week — you know, the step we take every Sunday. Don’t blow your opportunity to make a selection. We may only have the luxury of tweaking this historically-weak President for another nine months.
Previous weekly “winners” in 2012:
- “This is my last election. After my election I have more flexibility.”
- Blames Fox News for his unpopularity because “they hear Obama is a Muslim 24/7, and it begins to seep in”
- Attacks Limbaugh while remaining silent on Maher contribution to his super-PAC
- Says “when the chips are down, I have Israel’s back,” WH claims it’s not a military doctrine
- Apology to Karzai “calmed things down“
- Uses Boeing plant in SC to cheer manufacturing after his NLRB tried to shut it down
- Emphasizes graduation rates in SOTU, cuts DC voucher program that nearly doubled grad rates
- “Well, it turns out our Founders designed a system that makes it more difficult to bring about change that I would like sometimes.”
- Finds claim of unemployment “interesting” because he is getting “the word” that woman’s husband should have no trouble finding work
- Hails Roe as essential to allow “our daughters … to fulfill their dreams“
- Shuts down DisneyWorld in order to promote tourism
- “He didn’t want to take pictures with any more soldiers; he was complaining about it[.]
- Famous opponent of signing statements issues one covering 17 provisions of bill he signed
Previous Obamateurisms of the Year:
- Giving 2 minutes of “shout-outs” before getting to the Fort Hood shooting (2009)
- Obama leaves Clinton at press conference podium on tax deal to attend Christmas party (2010)
- “I would put our legislative and foreign policy accomplishments in our first two years against any president— with the possible exceptions of Johnson, F.D.R., and Lincoln.” (2011)

Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at obamaisms@edmorrissey.com with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.

Gotta be the Supreme Court since nearly 60% of the country in a recent poll said he was “trying to intimidate the Court.” That cannot possibly be the narrative he was going for. Major screw-up.
Rational Thought on April 15, 2012 at 9:04 AM
For the moment, I’m the single vote for #1, since I think it’s the closest one to being simply amateurish in nature.
I just think the rest are too intentional and calculated to fall into that category.
To each his own.

The Supreme Court fiasco.
Another early favorite for OOTY.
VelvetElvis on April 15, 2012 at 9:07 AM
The SC thingy should have been retired as an all time winner like they retire names of really bad storms.

SCOTUS idiocy. Not even close this week.

With luck, his loss in November will be the OOTY.

It’s really too bad this group of Obummers fell in the unusual two week accumulation period. Any one of the four might make the year’s top 10 if they had happened in separate voting periods.
EconomicNeocon on April 15, 2012 at 9:15 AM
Well, for the 1st time in many months, I did not have to ponder ..SC, hands down.
hillsoftx on April 15, 2012 at 9:16 AM
I voted #4 because it led to Rosen’s attack on Ann Romney. If Obama loses the election, Rosen’s attack might be the tipping point when Obama’s ship started sinking (shades of the Titanic). We’ll just have to wait and see what happens.
It does seem to me that Obama is making bigger mistakes these days. I wonder how all this is being perceived inside the White House. It’d be fascinating to listen in on the strategery meetings they’re having now

82.44% for Supreme Court.
That might be a record.
This might be the (hopefully) OOTY>

I think this will be the easiest Weekly pick. Usually I have a hard time choosing between 2 or 3 of them a week… but this one was a no brainier.
Supreme Court flub. His and fellow liberals mask slipped with that comment.
In fact, it scared me so much to the point where I am more willing to hold my nose and vote for Mittens. Not because he in my mind is a good option, but he more so is to what is currently in the WH.

Actually, he’s always courting disaster, but he’s usually not so hamhandedly obvious about it.

The Ethics of Barack Obama
Political power is to be used for the accomplishment of good. I must hold political power because I am good and want to do good. My political power must increase so good may increase. Graft and cronyism are exertions of political power for the accomplishment of good.
Graft is good. Cronyism is good. It’s the Chicago way.

A very bad week for Obama and his administration this week. I hope they get “progressively” worse each and every week up til November 6 elections.

Most weeks are close, but this is a no-brainer. Obama, the Constitutional Instructor doesn’t know the Constitution or the precedents set over 100 years ago and uses this feigned ignorance to usurp power. The man must be stopped.

…..the Supreme Court and the luxury comment are just more illustration that 45% of our country is either not paying attention, the gop candidate always sucks, or they are so attached to the teat of the Federal Sow that they are just content as little piglets with full bellies and don’t care.
It’s a tossup.
***though can you imagine if Bush had this kind of Secret Service problem how it would be IMMEDIATELY LINKED to someone in the West Wing? And the whole thing is being spun like it’s the Agency and the guys involved and that…..ONCE AGAIN the American Jesus can do no wrong.
PappyD61 on April 15, 2012 at 9:56 AM
Idiot, I can’t predict the future. If the election was based solely on Obama’s record, he’d lose in a landslide. Unfortunately, the African-American community, the head-up-their-butt White Liberals, some Hispanics, and some well-meaning independents will vote for him because he’s black. That’s maybe 40% of the electorate right there. Add in those who don’t trust or aren’t comfortable with Romney, and you’re probably near 50%. Defeating the first African-American (Kenyan?) POTUS won’t be easy.
Gladtobehere on April 15, 2012 at 9:57 AM
POTUS ego was so out of control this week. His view that the SCOTUS are lucky to have a job, because the Majority of the Founding Fathers were suffering from a hangover when they were constructing the Constitution.
MSGTAS on April 15, 2012 at 10:04 AM
Blowing the Three Amigos Summit didn’t happen. That news didn’t serve the narrative, so it didn’t get reported.
Seriously, there can be only one choice with the Supreme Court intimidation gambit in the mix.
novaculus on April 15, 2012 at 10:08 AM
Although the SCOTUS comment is the obvious winner for moronic comment of the week the real flub was in team Obama’s mishandling of the divide & conquer strategy: working women verses the GOP.
The Dems were counting on this to secure around 60% of women voters & they have screwed it up by maligning motherhood in general.
We must be a tribal society, fighting among ourselves for the scraps from our government overlords, in order for Obama to get reelected.

The thing that scares me is it seems the polls can still go either way. Even with all the shit he does, he looks unbeatable at times. I know polls change but this shouldn’t even be close. I didn’t care for the way Romney supporters pitched him with the attacks on the other candidates but we really need to put that behind us for the election. I still get word from my friends in Afghanistan and they’re not very happy with the way things are going. Changes to the rules of engagement would make pretty big news if they helped the bad guys even more. So what I’m hearing is that the General Orders are being changed and individual unit SOPs are being made more restrictive. I’ve got friends at one remote FOB that sound like they can’t even get on the road out of the place without making contact with an IED or idiots with guns. They also said they’re instructed to break contact alot when they call for indirect fire or CAS. They need some people in there that care what happens to the military. Obama has to go.

We’ve seen this kind of arrogance for the last 3.5 years. It started with Greek columns.
smoothsailing on April 15, 2012 at 10:15 AM
I totally agree. It’s why a lot of us still caution that it’s quite possible that Owe could win again. I’ve heard that any election needs to be won by at least 3-5% to overcome the liberal cheating factor. And after the ignored and not prosecuted intimidation at the polls, along with the refusal to accept voter ID – it simply encourages more cheating. BTW, also look at what OWE gets away with while collecting money online!

I have a lot of hope that 0bama will lose. He reminds me of the Nazgul chief struck down by Eowyn and Merry in “The Return of the King” : when he goes down, his forces will quail and rend their clothes and flee madly in all directions.
The mood in the country really does subconciously remind me of the welling sense of pent-up frustration under the surface in the spring of ’80. People are tired of being frustrated.
I’m going to make a prediction that many may not agree with, but I think that Romney is going to shine in the debate(s) and throughly clean his clock, and surprise us all… that that the clock-cleaning will be so thorough that the whole country watching will know it.
Then he will go down.

I am having a difficult time choosing this morning.
The Democrats, trying to shape an absurd narrative – the War on Women… the progressive left thinks that staying home to raise your children is a luxury? Then why hasn’t the President of the United States, and the progressive led Senate, done something to change the tax code so more women like the President’s wife can have the luxury of raising their own children….if they have been so unfortunate to have been burdened with you know a human life they have to parent in the first place/
What is an American woman’s priorities according to the DNC? Abortions, Contraception and if you did reproduce- were burdened with a child- accessible Day Care. So outside of women’s reproductive role, women don’t care about anything else? The DNC calls republican’s tone deaf. They claim women are more than just baby makers, then they reduce women’s lives down to their role in reproduction. Obsessing over other people reproducing,(which is none of their business) this is how these people spend their days, in a eugenics haze.
Out of touch much? Who is kidding who, the DNC feminazis jumped the shark.
I narrowed it down to the above, and Obama instructing the Supreme Court how they are going to rule on Obamacare.
Dr Evil on April 15, 2012 at 11:42 AM
Obama’s strong majority is actually just 219 to 212, a ratio of 50.8%. If SCOTUS overturns this bill even with just a 5-4 split, that will be 55.6%.

Moose Drool on April 15, 2012 at 11:52 AM
If Obama wants to be taken seriously, he shouldn’t have said a word on the issue or just stated a generic statement. This is why we have three branches of government, checks and balances, that’s the way our REPUBLIC works – We are self governing people, based on our Laws enumerated in The United States Constitution.
Dr Evil on April 15, 2012 at 11:52 AM
I had to go for the “Luxury for her not to work”. The arrogance implied there is stunning. He was making $180K and described a stay-at-home mom as a luxury. I guess that makes sense when you believe fundamentally that the State makes a better parent than an individual. I make significantly less than that and wouldn’t consider my stay at home wife a luxury as she counters truly awful Los Angeles Unified School District indoctrination. No “war on women” here folks, keep walking – hahahaha.

His screw ups with Mexico and Canada are far more important than his SC bullying. Mexico and Canada will retaliate and it won’t be favorable for our economy.

Uppereastside said he made one month’s salary in last week’s trade. If he got 100 contracts of SBUX120421C00057000 call at 8 cents , which I doubt, and sold at $3, he would have made around $29000 for that trade. That would make him a top 1% dirtbag, wouldn’t it? Ever if he made a typo and the call was selling at 80 cents, he still would have made $21000, and that put him over the Barry definition of a millionaire(someone making $250000 a year). But Uppereastside said he is just a middle class American. You can fudge the number of contracts you traded, can’t you? Like stuffing a pair of socks in your pant’s pocket.

2.Yes we can (be absolutely terrible at governing… but look- there is a squirrel !!!) **
3. Fired and now where to go ? Join us ! (or at least quit looking for work already)
4. So you think you are smarter than Joe Biden ? (please note that this question is open only for those in grades 1 to 4. If you are still smarter than Biden then its a big f****ing deal)
