Video: Hilda Solis explains the American dream, sort of

posted at 2:51 pm on April 12, 2012 by Ed Morrissey

Via Greg Hengler, this just goes to show if you’re gonna dream, dream big, kid.  Big in this case refers to Big Government, and the dreamer is Hilda Solis, explaining with intermittent coherence what the Obama administration is busy defending these days.  “At this critical moment in time,” Solis tells the National Action Network convention today, “we have to understand what the President is fighting for.”  So what’s it all about?  “It’s about fairness in the workplace,” Solis insists, “it’s about fairness in education, and it’s about fairness in terms of what services are provided by government.  And if we can’t have a say-so in that,” Solis warns, “then this isn’t the dream that all of us have aspired to be a part of.”  No, seriously:

I’ve got news for Secretary Solis — we all have a say in government policy.  That doesn’t mean you will get your way.  And as far as our collective “dream,” you and your allies might fantasize about nanny states, but I doubt that most Americans consider government services as the pinnacle of achievement.

Be sure to watch all the way through for a weird pander to Al Sharpton.  Solis salutes him for “keeping it real.”  It’s so cute when government officials try to speak slang, isn’t it?  It’s probably Solis’ idea of “keeping it real,” but her speech just keeps it really liberal.

330,000 paid for moving one GSA moron to HI, so he can live lavishly, then quit after one year.

GSA bigshot spent one week in HI, on your dole, so he could attend a one-hour ribbon cutting event.

…congresscritters, from both sides, are morons, who live lavishly off your dole, without peforming their duties.

Issa, yes, you, and all around you, spontaneously combust for not looking into it.

I did some research on Solis after reading this:

http://freebeacon.com/department-of-propaganda/

FTA:

Signs posted in at least 20 DOL elevators depict Secretary Hilda Solis carrying a bullhorn and rallying alongside the Rev. Al Sharpton, the Free Beacon has learned. Next to the pictures is a quote from Solis that reads in part: “We all march in our own way.”

“Whether we take to the streets or simply do our work with integrity and commitment here at the U.S. Department of Labor… we are all marching toward the same goals: safe workplaces, fair pay, dignity of the job, secure retirement, and opportunities to make a better life,” the poster states.

It concludes with a call to action.

“I believe in the power of collective action. We all play a role. We all march.”

She’s the one who directs how unemployment and wage data is collected and reported.

How would this person ever understand or know the American dream?

And nothing says fairness like taking the wages of taxpaying U.S. citizens and using them to pay for government lawyers to file lawsuits on behalf of foreigners who knowingly and deliberately entered this country illegally and then illegally took U.S. jobs that would otherwise have gone to U.S. citizens, right Hilda? From The Obama Timeline:

Before Obama appointed Solis Secretary of Labor, she was a California Congresswoman. She is the daughter of Mexican and Nicaraguan immigrants, firmly in the labor union camp, and an advocate of easing restrictions on illegal immigrants. As a member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus — which essentially consists of Congressional socialists — she has addressed the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) and sent a representative from her office to a worker’s rights forum held by Socialist International. Solis supports expanding the H-1B visa program that lets U.S. companies hire tens of thousands of foreign workers in jobs like software design (which could just as easily be performed by Americans).

Solis’s husband paid $6,400 to settle tax liens against his business the day before Solis’ nomination was to be considered by a Senate committee. The tax liens resulted partly from unpaid county health and safety permit fees, yet as Secretary of Labor Solis is responsible for health and safety in the American workplace. Solis supports organized labor’s “card check bill” (the Employee Free Choice Act), which would eliminate the right to a secret ballot in union organizing drives—yet she was upset that the election of the head of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus was not held by secret ballot.

We certainly are seeing a direct consequence of having more and more women in the workplace and in politics. Generally speaking, they’re not equipped for competition, hence the constant cries for “trophies for everybody” and “fairness” in the workplace as Big Government strives for more control of business — strangling the life out of everything. Competition drives our economy, ladies — and us men. Your calls for “fairness” will be the death of us all.
