Obama on Rosen and Ann Romney: “There’s no tougher job than being a mom”

posted at 6:01 pm on April 12, 2012 by Allahpundit

Box status: Checked. Have there been any prominent Democrats today, incidentally, who’ve ridden to Rosen’s defense, even if only to say that her point’s been misconstrued? Axelrod and Messina, shrewdly anticipating the bomb blast to come, ducked and covered last night by criticizing her right away on Twitter for what she said. I thought for sure that America’s most lifelike talking-points robot would mumble something this morning about “distractions” from the war that Mitt Romney wants to wage against women and children and seniors and etc etc etc, but even her operating system can’t run that program. Just as I’m writing this, the right’s favorite liberal feminist has a piece up at the Daily Beast scolding Rosen for what she said. Will no top Democratic pol help a blogger out with some free content by wading into this clusterfark on Rosen’s behalf? C’mon, Pelosi. You know you wanna.

The lingering question: Did Rosen stumble into this attack on her own or, given her chumminess with Team Hopenchange, was there maybe possibly conceivably a little nudge from someone somewhere about targeting Ann Romney? Ann is, as John Nolte explains, a major asset to Romney on the trail potentially. With Obama already betting heavily on a gender gap in November, framing Ann as some sort of socialite layabout caricature would reduce her appeal to women and push the all-important “rich parasites” element to O’s class-warfare message. I’m firmly in the “Rosen blundered” camp on this question, but that’s not necessarily contradictory to the idea of O’s campaign wanting to neutralize Ann early somehow. Could be that Rosen was looking to do that for them and just did a horribly bad job of it.

AP, fwiw I think the echo chamber factor played into this. Remember how shocked they were at the SCOTUS hearings? Team Zero and their surrogates cannot imagine that the America people think differently than they do, so Rosen expressed their true and candid views of stay at home Mothers.

They did not expect the backlash. Also the two guys on the show with Rosen must agree with her, since neither took exception to her remarks.

there are lots of jobs tougher than being a mom… like being a dad whose been forced from his child’s life by a vindictive woman who files for divorce, alienates your children, and extracts money from you to support her lifestyle ostensibly “for the sake of the children.”

Obama would love to have an economy where both parents work non-stop; children are left all day in government-run daycare centers; and motherhood — and most especially, fatherhood — is demonized and discouraged. We have to remember that Obama and his planners in Washington cannot get a good knock at the individual until they tear down the family.

it makes sense- radical liberals have always had the big issues with their own moms and dads. barry’s idols- the 60s progressives that raised them- the white ones were all well to do and they all blamed their parents for their good fortune. it’s the birth place of the white guilt the democrats so love manipulating.

and barry… well despite how unfair barry’s being with the wives of others it would be too easy to make suggestions about his own mommy and daddy issues. he’s damaged goods. his contempt has been turned on white american society for ‘ doing something oppressive to him because of his skin color”. but the truth is just look at how he grew up- that’s where the damage happened to young barry. and we’re being punished for it. we’re being ‘made to pay’.

stanley had a lot of big progressive humanist thoughts. she doesn’t appear to have been a malicious person. why has she left us with such a hollow, shallow vindictive and sad seeming son?

portlandon on April 12, 2012 at 6:27 PM

I think this was planned and she was nudged, but she clumsily overdid it. Subtlety and implication would have worked far better. If there wasn’t a plan, then why has every Dem in the world disavowed her? The WH should have simply said that’s her opinion, she doesn’t speak for us.

What’s the point of a President commenting on someone who’s a talking head? It diminishes him and the office. Take the office seriously or at least pretend to do so.

If he really wanted to stay above the fray, he should have made no comment at all. A smart adviser should have at least given him that cynical advice as the best way to advance his campaign. What’s the point of deniability if you tip your hand by overdenying? Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain!!!!!

The egos of politicians and their advisers, however, do not lend them to avoid micromanaging.

Machiavellian Fail.

The lingering question: Did Rosen stumble into this attack on her own or, given her chumminess with Team Hopenchange, was there maybe possibly conceivably a little nudge from someone somewhere about targeting Ann Romney?

If so, it failed. I’ve seen Ann Romney with her husband but her TEN MINUTE interview on FNC is my first real introduction to our next First Lady. She was flawless in her answers and this reminded me an awful lot of the interview Hillary Clinton climbed into a pink skirted suit instead of usual black “power pantsuit.”

If this was targeting Ann Romney, it was an epic fail for two reasons. First, her intereview was on message and constantly going back to the fact that Obama is a job killer who is leaving a legacy of debt for our children. Secondly because there was nothing in her interview that could be exploited by SNL or any of the other Democrat friendly ways of attacking their opponents.

BTW, it is pretty hard to attack a woman who has been married to the same man for 42 years with five kids and grandchildren in the double digits.

I didn’t like it one bit when Rick Santorum tried to say where women did/did not “belong” in the military. Didn’t like it when Jerry Falwell decreed that women should stay at home instead of the workplace. Don’t like it when Hilary Rosen dumps on women who choose to feather their nests instead of elbow their way up the corporate ladder.

Different women, different choices. We will each do what is right for our individual circumstance. On that, I’ll bet Ms. Palin, Ms. Obama, Ms. DeGeneris, and Ms. Jones the homeschooler would agree.

I knew Obama would mention Michelle Obama, and his mother. I knew it. It was guaranteed like the sunrise and sunset. Narcissism and self-reference. I’m shocked he didn’t mention Malia and Sasha’s future as hard-working mothers. The guy is slipping! /

If I were on team Romney – I would be designing shirts/stickers, etc that say “I stand with Ann”

War on Women my foot.
