Jay Carney on Rosen’s WH visits: I personally know three women named “Hilary Rosen”

posted at 4:51 pm on April 12, 2012 by Allahpundit

Admit it. Deep down, although you hate yourself for it, you kind of admire the sheer balls it takes to lie to a room full of reporters like this with a straight face. Not even a hint of sheepishness in his demeanor at playing this dumb, even though the “Hilary B. Rosen” who turns up in the White House logs has the same middle initial and the same unorthodox spelling of “Hilary” (with one L) as our heroine. You earned your pay today, Jay.

Usually I can get a sense of when a full-fledged media shinolastorm is brewing from the amount of early buzz about a story on Twitter, but I didn’t see this one coming. There was some anger about it last night in my timeline after she did her hit on CNN but I figured it’d be a one-hour thing. Sixteen hours later, here we are. I’ve been thinking about that all day: What essential ingredients are needed to turn indignation at a strategist on the other side into a sensation that dominates the day’s news cycle? Obviously there’s genuine offense at the heart of it about stay-at-home moms being demeaned, especially by a sneering Beltway bien-pensant, but that’s not normally page-one news. Other possible ingredients:

– Payback for The One’s moronic “war on women” demagoguery. It’s one thing to see Ann Romney and other moms insulted, it’s another to have it done by Team Hopenchange, whose record on gender equality doesn’t quite justify the amount of finger-wagging it tends to do on this topic. Axelrod and company deserve to have their faces rubbed in this pile of bilge, even if they did run screaming from Rosen on Twitter after her CNN segment.

– Punishment for the left’s perceived disdain for full-time moms. Rosen’s comments match how the right thinks the left — or at least the left’s intelligentsia — actually sees stay-at-home mothers, even though liberals will never admit it. The Political Math guy summed it up in one simple Venn diagram. It’s not really about Rosen, it’s about hammering liberals for trying to hide from her Kinsleyan gaffe simply because it’s politically inconvenient for them to come clean.

– Pushback against media bias. The press would have wet itself had a righty pundit disparaged stay-at-home moms this way — “war on women, war on women!!1!” — so the right’s going to do its best to reduce the double standard by making this story as big a deal as possible. The noisier things get, the more the media has to grit its teeth and spend ink and airtime on a meme that’s unhelpful to their boyfriend.

– It’s a way to unite behind Romney. That’ll be a process, of course, not something that happens overnight, but after a long primary it feels good to come to the defense of a standard-bearer whom many grassroots conservatives still don’t quite trust. Special thanks to Rosen for choosing as her target the single most likable member of the Romney campaign. That made things easy.

Anything else I’m missing? I think the second reason is what’s chiefly driving it, even more so than scoring a point on Obama and making him back off on the “war on women” crap. It’s the suspicion that progressives generally, not just Rosen, look down on women who can afford to work but who choose to stay at home, either because they underestimate the amount of labor involved or because they think full-time motherhood is “unhelpful” to the cause of feminism. Anyway, read Kevin Williamson at NRO for more on that.

This is getting too fun. The administration comes out with some new tack to try to further class/gender warfare and then either someone from the same administration steps on their genitalia or facts come out debunking the latest meme…examples:
Oil: All of the above (actually just the opposite)
Buffet Rule (Savings from which will pay for about a day or two of fed govt spending)
War on Women: (How’s that workin’ for ya?)

Ooh yeah…just hit MSNBC in passing…a couple of observations before my eyes and ears melt:

Even Obama’s disowning HR now. The wheel wells on that bus must be getting awfully bloody.
Joan Walsh is such a water carrier.
“Blue” Jay Carney is also a tool…I love his dodging and weaving. Never thought someone could make “Baghdad Bob” Gibbs look good. Even the folks in the press room know he’s out of his depth.

Al Sharpton’s on next…woo hoo!

This is not just a “war on women”. That is just one part of it. This administration has gone out of it’s way to divide this country on every issue from gay rights to racisim to the haves and the have nots. it is a full fledged war on the American people.

Rush and Breitbart.com both think this whole Hilary Rosen thing is the same kind of set up that the “free condoms” Sandra Fluke business was. Remember, Romney got an out-of-left field question on contraceptives from George Steponallofus at that debate months ago, and lo, suddenly it becomes an Issue Worth Talking About. Obama made a comment about Michelle O “not having the luxury to stay at home” and now Hilary Rosen pipes up. It seems Team Obama has been planning all this for months, just waiting for the Republicans to nominate Romney.

Rush also thinks OWS is also a tactic against Romney–rich 1% guy against the 99%. One wonders what other little tricks they’ve got up their sleeves.

Mormonism. They are going to tie it in with the war on women. They’ll work with the MSM to blur the lines between mainstream Mormonism and excommunicated fringe offshoot kooks like Warren Jeffs. By the time November comes around low info voters are going to think every Mormon woman is a sister wife who washes 12 loads of laundry a day on a washboard down by the river and has 14 kids because her misogynist husband won’t let her have birth control.

Mrs. Romney’s personal investment model — marry a man who turns out to be wildly successful in business and politics, escape the tedium of what is sometimes described romantically as “a career,” have five children and the pleasure of raising them — is not open to everybody, of course: The supply of future centimillionaires is limited, and they are not easy to identify. But making intelligent decisions about forming a household and about the division of labor within that household is an option open to many of us, though unhappily not to all of us, given the state of the family.

Ms. Rosen’s remarks were criticized as being snide; the real problem is that they were stupid.

Mason on April 12, 2012 at 5:32 PM

I’m going to start using this list to describe “things the Obama Administration does”.

Example: Crack — A phrase an individual carny polishes and tweaks until it is super-effective at getting the attention of passing marks to stop and play. Cracks are developed and learned by instinct and by observation, and different ones may be employed to influence different types of marks. All of these comments are “when he says / then you say” phrases, as in, when he says “I’ve already spent too much,” you say, “I know, with so much invested you’re bound to win!”

Yes We Can!
War On Women!
Spread the Wealth!
Fair Share!

Usage: “Obama cracked in his hometown today, where he told a crowd the GOP was waging a war on women”

BobMbx on April 12, 2012 at 5:32 PM

Multiple people with the same name is a Obama regime trait. It also could have been just any Malik Shabazz that visited the White House.

But I, El Rushbo, have known that there’s always been hostility for women who don’t go to work. They are letting down the sisterhood. This has been one of my main contentions throughout the entire history of this program. But in one fell swoop, Hilary Rosen has reopened this wound and is allowing everybody to see in that the real hostility — and how is this gonna play with all those precious independents? The real hostility is for women who stay at home. And make no mistake: Hilary Rosen was hostile. She was hostile in her original comment and she was hostile as she ratcheted it up after the original comments.

from Rush’s show.

Jay Carney apparently knows all but one of these women in the entire country.

And they wondered why I cancelled TIME Magazine!

KOOLAID2 on April 12, 2012 at 5:43 PM

Another thing that I find crazy is when Sarah Palin was running (a working mother of 5) they vilified her in the media and called her a bad mom. Now Ann Ronmey is a bad woman because she opted to stay home and raise her children. These people are beyond sick.

milwife88 on April 12, 2012 at 5:16 PM

Excellent point.

onlineanalyst on April 12, 2012 at 5:44 PM

Hi, I’m Carney. This is my brother Hilary Rosen and this is my other brother Hilary Rosen.

MechanicalBill on April 12, 2012 at 5:45 PM

I’ll tell you one thing, when the White House Press Secretary says stuff like this, and absolutely NO ONE in the room DARES to say what needs to be said,
viz. “Oh , COME ON!”, you just KNOW that Stalin’s USSR has arrived in America.

My collie says:

The doctored photos with Hilary Rosen brushed out of existence will be available from the White House some time tomorrow, CC.

CyberCipher on April 12, 2012 at 5:45 PM

If PBHO had a daughter she would look like Hilary.

Bishop on April 12, 2012 at 5:46 PM

kind of hard to feel sorry about a woman with 200 million dollars, 4 homes, 2 cadillacs and a car elevator but whatever play her up as a tragic victim of the words from that eeeeevil CNN talking head

DBear on April 12, 2012 at 5:09 PM

Weird that you’re not attacking Obama for his evil richness; I guess a family making 400-500K a year or more and sitting on 5-10 million in assets isn’t rich… but 200 million is.

I’m surprised… generally the definition of “evil rich” is “richer than me”… you’re worth between 10 million and 200 million DBear? Or is there some other reason why this attack is only pulled out for conservatives?

Here’s a deal. We’ll give you 10 million like Michelle Obama has; or 200 million, but you also get MS and cancer. Which of those choices do you find more appealing, and which is the one you’d avoid?

I’m guessing you go for the 200 million as no liberal anywhere can ever muster up any compassion for anyone who is “rich” so clearly being rich makes up for anything in your world… but wouldn’t that lack of compassion logically apply to the Obamas and their millions too?

gekkobear on April 12, 2012 at 5:46 PM

Notice how the troll talking points changed:

1. She didn’t mean what she said. Nope, didn’t work she doubled down on her comments.

2. She’s just a talking head. Nope, didn’t work, she’s a White House operative.

3. So what if she said what she said, Romney’s taking away health care from poor women.

Care to guess what #4, 5, 6 will be?

angryed on April 12, 2012 at 5:47 PM

Hilariously, Barack Obama is spinning, insisting that he doesn’t know Hilary Rosen.

Which is why there are so many entries in the White House visitor’s log showing his advisors and he himself meeting with her multiple times.

Barack’s lies just keep piling higher and higher, which is why desperate media and their trolls like DBear just keep getting more and more frantic.

northdallasthirty on April 12, 2012 at 5:48 PM

lucky her for having the health care her husband wants to strip away from so many poor Americans. I goes only the rich deserve to live

I’m rather enjoying the week Obama and the dims are having.

The Barack 0bama Administration just keeps setting the bar lower and lower and lower — and still the ocean of sheople in this country who put him there want him to stay there for four more years.

Blaming the Prince of Fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The Republic can survive a Barack Obama. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him our President — and work feverishly to keep him there.

And I personally know 72 persons named Jay Carney. I think they are all virgins.

Now about that swamp land in Florida we talked about…

Old Country Boy on April 12, 2012 at 5:50 PM

No, deep down I think these people are pure, unadulterated evil. They will lie, cheat, steal, and destroy in order to get and hold onto power. Sorry, there is nothing in that that I even “kind of” admire.

Further, I think the fact that the fact they are willing to rip apart a woman who has spent her life dedicated to her family and her husband has sincerely offended MANY women. There is nothing “faux” about this, and yes, although I’m a SAHM, I’m educated enough to know what that means, to know also know it represents a vile person trying wiggle out of a vile position they genuinely hold while simultaneously trying to blame us for it. Finally, that education also makes me capable of discerning that although they say we’ve had back-to-back Recovery Summers and are even now on the brink of a recovery, I can read a gas pump and the receipt at the grocery store. To then insult me by saying as a SAHM, I don’t understand the economy… THAT’S why they are getting this well-deserved blow back.

Uh, choice is good unless it involves moms that keep their children.

Rusty Allen on April 12, 2012 at 5:51 PM

This is not just a “war on women”. That is just one part of it. This administration has gone out of it’s way to divide this country on every issue from gay rights to racisim to the haves and the have nots. it is a full fledged war on the American people.

milwife88 on April 12, 2012 at 5:16 PM

milwife88:Accurate you are,Obama couldn’t wait to start the
Assault on America, right from the go,of Day 1!!:)

canopfor on April 12, 2012 at 5:20 PM

It’s a “War on Mom.”

BTW Rosen is a surrogate for Zero, handpicked by his team to coach Debbie Shultz as reported from DWS own lips in the Feb 16th edition of the WSJ. She is not just some random talking head.

FTA: and in DWS own words:

Obama advisers have occasionally told her to ‘tone it down’ and ‘back off a smidgen,’ Ms. Wasserman Schultz says. She agreed with them to enlist two seasoned Democratic female pros, Anita Dunn and Hilary Rosen, to begin giving her occasional political advice and media training, advisers say. ‘I’m glad to get constructive criticism,’ Ms. Wasserman Schultz says…”

Emphasis mine.

dogsoldier on April 12, 2012 at 5:51 PM

PBHO met Hilary Rosen just not that Hilary Rosen. A different Hilary Rosen, one who deeply respects all SAH moms.
