Open thread: Sunday morning talking heads

posted at 8:01 am on April 8, 2012 by Allahpundit

Lots of religious guests on tap for Easter Sunday morning, including Cardinal Dolan of New York discussing Obama’s contraception “compromise” on CBS and Rick Warren sitting down with Jake Tapper on ABC. If you’re dead set on politics, though, Ron Johnson and Kent Conrad will battle over Paul Ryan’s budget on Fox and Debbie Wasserman-Schultz will turn up on CNN to repeat whichever Democratic talking points her operating system has been configured to run this week. Expect lots of “war on women” nonsense in keeping with Obama’s recent pander-monium.

The line-up via WaPo:

NBC’s Meet the Press: Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL); Sen. John Kasich (R-OH); Archbishop-designate of Baltimore William Lori; daughter of Billy Graham, Anne Graham Lotz; United Methodist Pastor Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D-MO); member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Rep. Raul Labrador (R-ID); Executive Editor at Random House Jon Meacham

ABC’s This Week: Pastor Rick and Kay Warren; George Will, ABC; David Chalian, Yahoo!; Michael Eric Dyson, Georgetown University; Chrystia Freeland, Reuters; Peggy Noonan, Wall Street Journal

CBS’ Face the Nation: Cardinal Timothy Dolan

Fox News Sunday: Sen. Kent Conrad, (D-ND); Sen. Ron Johnson, (R-WI); Brit Hume, Fox News; Mara Liasson, National Public Radio; Steve Hayes, The Weekly Standard; David Drucker, Roll Call

CNN’s State of the Union: Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL); Mark Penn, pollster; Linda DiVallKen, pollster; Starr, former Solicitor General; Neal Katyal, former Acting Solicitor General; Ralph Reed, Faith and Freedom Coalition; Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D-MO); David Brody, Christian Broadcasting Network

Concur all… a double bagger AND coyote ugly… There wasn’t enough Yukon Jack in college to make me ever end up with anything that resembled DWS (in mind, body, or political preference)…

It was such a pleasant Easter Sunday here. Lovely church service/nice sermon/good company and beautiful weather here in Fl.

Then I logged on and jumped to HA and there is DWS………let’s hope this is not a sign of how the rest of the day plays out…….:-)

Obama Plays Kissie-Kissie With Groups Who Shoot Women in the Head & Beat Them in Public… But He Supports Women

Before the the Allied Forces removed the Taliban from Afghanistan in 2001 these barbaric Islamists would shoot women in the head in soccer stadiums.

The Taliban would also beat women in the street.

Now the Obama Administration is helping the Taliban set up an official office in Qatar. This is while the Afghan government is scaling back its support for women’s rights.

Meanwhile, in Egypt, the Muslim Brotherhood’s presidential candidate announced this week that his first goal is to set up Sharia law in Egypt. Under this system women and Christians will face daily discrimination and abuse.
This week the Obama Administration invited the Muslim Brotherhood to the White House.

But, the corrupt Obama-media insists that Obama supports women.

Really?

I’ll drink to that!

One thing about Debbie: you can’t shake her from her talking points. If she’s programmed to talk about how great the economy is doing, and they ask her about women in the Augusta National club instead, she still gives the economy answer. It’s like pulling the string on a talking doll which was hideously disfigured in a space heater incident.

Meanwhile, in Egypt, the Muslim Brotherhood’s presidential candidate announced this week that his first goal is to set up Sharia law in Egypt. Under this system women and Christians will face daily discrimination and abuse.

We used treasure we do not have, our military might and the sacrfices of our best young men’s lives and limbs to set up sharia based Constitutions in Iraq and Afghanistan, so what’s the big deal if Egypt goes that way, too?

I supported the invasion of Iraq. I supported it because I knew we needed to remove Saddam Hussein. I knew he was incredibly dangerous to us after we threw him out of Kuwait. He was the kind of nutcase who would go after an ex American President, and he was the kind of nutcase who would actually use nuclear weapons if he ever got them. He was dangerous.

However, now with the benefit of 9 years of hindsight I have concluded it was a terrible mistake. As dangerous as Saddam was, trading him for what we have there in Iraq now, at the cost we had to pay to do it, was not worth it.

One can make a decent, even compelling argument that the current Iraq is more intolerant and dangerous than Saddam Hussein’s Iraq was. It is just less dangerous to Iran.

To be clear – the reason it was a mistake is because our State Department and our President were not just going to do what they needed to do. They were certain (in hindsight) to turn a victory into a disaster.

Hmmm from Eleanor Cliff—

These numbers are daunting, but Romney is in better shape than Bill Clinton in 1992, or Ronald Reagan in 1980, says Sam Popkin, a political-science professor at the University of California at San Diego. Clinton was called unelectable, and after winning the nomination, he was running third in the polls behind Texas billionaire Ross Perot and George H.W. Bush. Reagan was seen as so vulnerable because of his age and cowboy image (“Governor Reagan can’t start a war, President Reagan can”) that party leaders talked about putting former president Gerald Ford on the ticket to prop him up; instead Reagan had to take Bush, his biggest rival, to placate the party.

The choice of Bush as Reagan’s running mate looks inspired now through the lens of history, but at the time it was an essential step in the rehab and recovery process every nominee goes through after a bruising primary battle. Romney has been on the couch for months with the media analyzing his every perceived shortcoming, but the central rationale for his candidacy remains unshaken, says Popkin. “Nothing has taken away the fact that he is a world-class business executive, and if he can convince the voters that’s what we need without having to slash Medicare, he’ll be a strong candidate.”

CW on April 8, 2012 at 5:18 PM

Green eyed Lady @ 2:12 pm: I posted this last night (well, early am, because I was late to the party) because it is an issue that has been bothering me. It is related to your point, too.

I am appalled at his effrontery of the timing of some of the president’s decisions. He very generously hands over funds paid for by the American taxpayer to the Muslim Brotherhood of Egypt during Passover, a time that commemorates the Jewish people’s leaving the bondage in Egypt.

Is Obama tone deaf? Is this another in-your-face move against Israel?

Obama pulled a similar stunt, thumbing his nose at the Poles on the anniversary of the German invasion in 1939

Our media has me at the point that I say we will not stop them so let us resign to ruin. Then endeavor to persevere.

Mr. Perkins did call him out about the “war on women” and some other excesses from the hysterical hyenas of the left and our Representative Cleaver agreed with the Repubs on this one.

Tow maybes:

Maybe the spitting he experienced was an existential gesture from his ghostly car wash. Like the ship showing up in Lord Jim.

Maybe with the whole MSNBC schoolbus of heroes taking up the airwaves, he figures the right might be right for him. Maybe as an extra face on Fox. Or maybe to take a stab at being Mitt’s running mate.

CNN never brought it up. Ask me to move in with you for a few years and I can tell you the executive summary of indictments of CNN.
