Pander-monium: Obama’s got a fever and the only prescription is more “war on women” crapola

posted at 5:01 pm on April 6, 2012 by Allahpundit

It takes real nerve to insist that “women are not some monolithic group, women are not an interest group” at an event entitled “The White House Forum on Women and the Economy,” so good for you, champ. There are voters in every demographic group who enjoy being reduced to an “identity” and then patronized for it; you earned ‘em today in the demographic you’re targeting with this unctuous display. Special congrats on the ol’ crowdpleaser about how Congress would get more done if only it had more women and less of those darned men. I’ll bet Hillary, especially, enjoyed that rhetorical consolation prize after falling short in 2008.

Even ABC, in a straight-up news report on the event, couldn’t refrain from wincing:

In a much-publicized event at the White House, Obama, who has already called the liberal Georgetown student harangued by Rush Limbaugh, joined the fray again. As women from around the country crowded into an auditorium to hear Obama speak, the president told them that they don’t amount to some political “interest group” and that “you shouldn’t be treated that way.”

He then pandered to them by reminding them that he signed into law a bill that works to help women get paid as much as men do for the same jobs, and that he appointed two women to the Supreme Court…

There was little nonpolitical about the ordeal. Even Holder, who conceded in a workgroup with a couple dozen women that he’s not supposed to veer into politics as attorney general, said that “at the end of this electoral process,” women would be better served by having Obama and Vice President Biden in charge to work on issues important to them.

That’s today’s event in microcosm — nonpolitical, yet ridiculously political. No wonder Holder lapsed into campaign mode. Why bother keeping up the charade? They needed to organize something at the White House that would give the media an excuse to keep blathering about the “war on women” and this is what they came up, replete with a few soundbite-ready lines for The One (including a gross exaggeration about Planned Parenthood offering mammograms) so that cable news would have some footage to air as an intro to yet another navel-gazing segment about Republican misogyny. Case in point: After you’re done here with O, go watch the predictably hackish hit piece on Bashir’s show this afternoon that left Mediaite aghast. Or read this paint-by-numbers attempt by lefty Brent Budowsky at The Hill to tie the Supreme Court to the “war on women” theme. Lots of water-carriers for Obama out there in the media. Today he refilled their buckets.

Exit question: In honor of O’s attempt to reduce women to a monolithic interest group based on gender, here’s one for the moms out there. How do you like it that this chump keeps dropping anvils of debt on your kids’ heads and then, when asked to stop, the best he can do is offer this pathetic travesty?

I honestly don’t what the Obama Team is doing, with these embarrassing political ploys and the sharp attacks against Romney and the SCOTUS.

Wouldn’t they be better served by appearing above the fray, that “the President is too busy working for the American people to engage in petty partisan politics”? His approval numbers, while not glowing, are not disastrous, and he maintains a store of goodwill among many independents. These moves can only turn them off.

Is it Obama’s assessment that the economy is going to turn more sour over the next several months, and it’s essential they make Romney into simply an unfeasible choice? Or — and this is my suspicion — is it that the Obama Team peaked in the fall of 2008, and that all they really know or want to do is electioneering combat. They desperately want to recapture those (in their eyes) halcyon days, even if Hope and Change is gone and Cynicism and Muddling Through have set in.

Has anybody seen the movie Canadian Bacon? (Sorry–it’s a Michael Moore flick from ’95, but all I knew about it when I saw it was that John Candy and a bunch of other funny people were in it.)

Anyway…for those who have not seen it, the basic storyline was that the American president was stinking in office, so, based on a beer brawl at a hockey game, he used the news/political spin/etc. to make it seem like the Canadians were hostile and on the verge of attacking the U.S. (Cue scene of rage-filled American patriot seeking to stop the vicious Canadians and being pulled over by a polite Canadian Mounty concerned that the American’s truck has graffiti on it containing foul language…Cue scene of menacing maple leaf flag…)

This “war on women” reminds me of that kind of war: so insanely ridiculous that it’s (almost) funny–and so obviously engineered by those who need it to boost their political standing that it’s amazing more people don’t see right through it. We are Canada, my fellow conservatives/Republicans. And despite all reports to the contrary, we have done nothing wrong. We are just being used by a desperate, failing president.

(Note: This comment is not a recommendation of the movie. The concept is funnier in theory than in execution. But thinking of it actually made me smile for the first time about this “war on women.” Cue dramatic music and image of rabid elephant…)

Thanks for your comment. This has really been bugging me lately. I have been called on kinds of names and even had someone suggest I be banned from the site. Being a conervative woman seems to be the equivalent of being an uncaring, rich witch. I have had people question if I really have kids or if I am male, because they so don’t get what I am saying. However, when they start bringing up tax cuts for the rich or the Iraq War, I know I have won the argument. The problem is, they don’t know it.

Beyond that, there may be a more basic reason to emulate Reagan. As Obama seeks re-election, he is aware of a Reagan trait that every presidential incumbent covets: In 1984, Reagan won 49 states.

This phony “War on Women” must end. Americans, who are not in the labour force, but who want a job has risen by 10.86% since Obama became POTUS and half of them are women. Forget about the Lilly Ledbetter law. They don’t have jobs so pay isn’t exactly an issue. Forget about paying for contraception. They are suffering under an 18.5% Misery Index. Forget about paying $100,000 in entrance fees to belong to Augusta National. They are tired of eating rice and beans because of the 10.9% inflation that is the result of the Federal Reserve’s quantitative easing and Obama’s spending. Forget about Obama’s “working on it” or “asses to kick” or Neo-Nationalism. They are sick and tired of his class warfare when he has been the 1%’s best friend. Forget about the payroll tax cut. They know that they are going to get slammed with new taxes at the beginning of next year on all sorts of things, including the OTC medicines that they have to buy for their children.”

I DON’T CARE. Obama’s approval could be 99.9% and it would make me like him anymore or make his policies any better. Quite frankly as a conservative, I mind Obama’s policies much more than I mind him personally. Yes he is arrogant and embarrassing, but his policies are what is destroying this country and my kids’ future.

No poll figure is going to show that. If he get re-elected, he gets re-elected, than things will really get interesting for a lot of people that he is lying to today. I’ll deal with it and so will the rest of conservatives.

They have no desire to fix any problems but would rather feed off the unrest they create and hope that unrest will continue to give them the votes they need to stay in office so they can continue to hold their power. And so the cycle continues.

I think this is one of those situations where both viewpoints could be true. Women are not some monolithic or interest group but I’m willing to bet that the crowd that shows up a “the White House Forum on Women and the Economy” are pretty much of a single mind about what is wrong and what needs to change. These are echo chamber events even more than town halls where every single person in view has a union tee shirt on and the questions are clearly staged in advance (like the little girl who demanded to know why people hated Obama at that Town Hall in New Hampshire- nevermind Mom was on the leadership of the Obama campaign in nearby Mass.)

This is all of the same tactics that dictate the homeless only come up as an issue when a Republican is in the White House. The homeless mysteriously disappeared during the Clinton Years came back in force during the GWB years because all the homeless were apparently Vietnam vets so the Dems could suggest that GWB served in the National Guard while these homeless suffered from serving in combat. But, with an America-hating community activist in office, one hears little about the homeless these days. Even those rendered homeless by foreclosure due to the Obama depression.

What gets my goat, is all the women on mommy blogger sites that still have stars in their eyes and an excuse at the ready anytime anyone mentions something bad about Obama. It doesn’t matter if you have facts, quotes, links any of it. They come back with the war in Iraq, or the assault on women’s rights or at least he cares.

People don’t want to hear about reality. They complain about cutting funding in shools and ignore any points being made about all the money wasted in high salary adminisitration and union jobs/benefits. The embarassing Solyndra, GM and other taxpayer investments are met with “at least he is trying to do something”.

No one seems to even care that he took private school vouchers away from DC kids while sending his kids to Sidwell. The guy can do know wrong according to many of these women, and they do seem to have an irrational fear of republican legislation. THey now think they will have to talk to their employers personally to explain why they need/want birth control.

Evidently the definintion of being a mom no longer includes the role of preparing for your child’s future.

totherightofthem on April 6, 2012 at 5:40 PM

Don’t be too willing to believe that what you’re reading is from “moms” — or even from women at all. On twitter, for example, truly deplorable content is written, and harassment of others done, by accounts that claim a female ID but, well, one wonders.

There are Leftwing groups, Democratic Party affiliated, that are on the internet thick as flees and are noticeable for their persistent stuck-in-the-rut comments that continue on as you describe there, defying all reason, facts and other information that makes reasonable people otherwise modify their support of issues and especially of Obama. So I always make note of the accounts on any site that seem “stuck” like that and that push Obama, especially, as also the major DNC donors and sponsored groups — and never assume they’re genuine because most of them aren’t.
