Oh my: Palin to guest host the “Today” show on Tuesday

posted at 3:45 pm on April 1, 2012 by Allahpundit

Someone tweeted about it last night but I ignored it, figuring that a Palin/“lamestream media” alliance had to be an early April Fools gag. But then I remembered what GMA is up to this week. Now it makes sense: Palin gets a chance to one-up her old nemesis and “Today” gets a morning of must-see TV for right and left alike designed to steal Katie’s ratings thunder. It’s an “enemy of my enemy is my friend” deal. For a day, at least.

Said Palin to Breitbart.com:

“I see this as a good opportunity to bring an independent, common-sense conservative perspective to NBC. We’re ‘going rogue’ and infiltrating some turf for a day,” Palin told Breitbart News…

When Breitbart News asked for a comment about the fact that she will be competing with Couric, Gov. Palin responded simply: “Game on.”

If she and Katie end up goofing on each other on air, I’m going to leave my body and attain a state of total traffic nirvana. One question, though: Is this just a lark for Palin or a signal that she’s thinking of a career move into full-time TV? InstaGlenn’s post this morning reminded me what Andrew Breitbart said to John Hawkins in an interview last April:

Hollywood, that’s where the Left controls the debate and the narrative. Same goes with journalism. I think it’s more important.

That’s why I’ve been saying for two years that Sarah Palin could become a billionaire as a red state Oprah and do shows that are similar to the template of Oprah for the same audience — but instead of the victim template, use the hero template. Make it more uplifting, not about how this person was victimized in this way and we’re going to make this person whole by giving him a house or a year’s supply of diapers, but go out there and find the heroes and start showing people the American experience is not about political correctness and it’s not about multi-culturalism. It’s about E Pluribus Unum. It’s about there being a common American cultural dynamic.

Is this the first step? Exit question: “Today” is also promising the return on Monday of a “surprise legend.” Who’s that? I assume it’s Jane Pauley but all theories are welcome.

Really? This isn’t an April Fool’s prank?

I’m disappointed, if it is. I’ve never been terribly interested in Sarah Palin — pundit or Sarah Palin — TV host.

I liked Sarah Palin — conservative politician.

Palin could do more in this realm because, politically, she’s been hamstrung too effectively to gain any higher office until memories fade and she rebuilds her gravitas and earns more popular credibility.

Sarah replacing Oprah would be sweet.

Hmmm… she sees you coming Sarah… careful.

The biggest mistake Palin could make is coming off too strong. She should still force Katie to make the first move. If the doors open to the arena and Sarah just leaps on Katie then Katie will be able to assume a defensive posture and paint Sarah as an uncouth aggressor.

So by all means, ready yourself for a fight but don’t let Katie paint you as a savage by breaking protocol.

profitsbeard on April 1, 2012 at 3:51 PM

Agreed. People of the Right are perpetually complaining we don’t have a face or a voice in popular, out-of-the-blogosphere mass media, and to remain politically viable, Palin’s choice to be that face and voice would keep her relevant in the national political scene, maybe even make her the kingmaker I suspect she strives to be. Win-win.

It was announced on the 31st, so my guess is it’s not a joke. Oh well. She’s not running for anything this season. If she’s going to help out down-ballot races, she needs to up her visibility.

Sarah Palin has the Courage to go into the Lion’s Den. I like it. Sarah Palin fights the status quo and she lives by the motto “only dead fish go with the flow”. Co-Hosting the Today at the Belly of Beast is certainly not going with the flow. It is probably about 6 or 7 Million Viewers most of which only get to see what the LSM want to see of her. many people forget that in 2008 Palin went on SNL and not only upstaged what’s her name but earned respect from the entire cast of that show. A show that was as anti-palin as it could be. She also went on the tonight show and won over Jay Leno. People have a picture of Palin in their minds put there by the MSM and dems and sadly many gopers have fallen for that warped view. When did pediatric docs start performing surgery?

Also, to show the Couric types that she can indeed do morning TV. She wants her detractors to warm up to her, and take her seriously. If George Sidestepandfuss can do it, why not her.

Yup. When we were back talking about who could moderate a debate, Palin was supposedly not as qualified as Anderson Cooper, Brian Williams, and other talking heads. She’s got a media strategy that no other Republican (candidate or commentator) has tried. I look forward to seeing how it goes.

alwaysfiredup on April 1, 2012 at 4:23 PM

face it Palin called Obama out and Obama blinked.

uh the President has really important things to do like you know actually LEAD and make hard decisions he can’t just play armchair quarterback like Palin has for 3 years and Romney has for 6(!!!!) years. and in his downtime I am pretty sure he doesn’t wanna placate crazy people like Palin and Mark Levin (Palin has the deeper voice of those 2 btw) by debating them for no good reason

DBear on April 1, 2012 at 4:08 PM

To DBear – the Bigoted Racist who Made Virulent Posts Spewing Hatred against conservatives and ASSUMING anyone who took a different view of things than Obama – in the case of Travaayn – OR were what YOU considered “conservative ” – were “WHITE” and inferred they were racists – DESPITE the fact that NO ONE in the discussion espoused their racial identity and that NOT ALL Conservatives are “White”.

You ARE a Bigoted RACIST – and I PROVED THAT in an earlier Thread.

STOP Posting here – Hot Air does not need Bigots and RACISTY plying their destructing and RACIST ideologies here!

Still copying lines fron that 2008 version of “Hating Palin for Dummies” book I see..:)

PDS sufferers are so predictable…LOL

idesign on April 1, 2012 at 4:18 PM

Wrong. I just don’t like quitters and their blind acolytes (whether they are Palinistas or Obamabots). You people have created a cult of personality around that limited woman just as bad as they one we have now for Obama.

Hilts on April 1, 2012 at 4:24 PM

If she wants to debate Obama she needs to go through the primary and EARN that right a nominee. Unfortunately she chickened out like a b%$#^

liberal4life on April 1, 2012 at 4:07 PM

In a debate between the two, she ould slap Oblablah naked and hide his clothes, causing him to run for his mother-in-law’s apron strings crying like the pus$y that he is.

She’s not black. She doesn’t get the benefit of the ‘help’ affirmative action provides.
Speaking of which, why did you leave Africa, Chioma? I hear it’s a wonderfully prosperous continent.

Lanceman on April 1, 2012 at 4:24 PM

Yep, he’s busy doing those important things. He doesn’t have time to debate private citizens.

Or to call Georgetown Law students… um…

Play golf… er…

Important things include hot mic moments too, right?

Midwestprincesse on April 1, 2012 at 4:24 PM

Romney will distance himself from her when he seals the nomination.

liberal4life on April 1, 2012 at 4:19 PM

which he did in 2010 and 2009 and caused the wave to miss all his races in MA and the Northeast. If Mitt does distance himself from Palin in 2012 it will cement his defeat to Obama.

She is TOXIC

liberal4life on April 1, 2012 at 4:19 PM

Her truths burns you, don’t they?

(I know, don’t feed the trolls but this one looks so thin and weak. My compassionate side says throw her a little sumthin’.)

Fallon on April 1, 2012 at 4:26 PM

you got it backwards

She sure loves the camera…

brak on April 1, 2012 at 3:50 PM

The camera loves her way way way way more
She is beautiful in a lot of ways, but really can the GOP have any more photogenic persona than Gov Palin ?

Yet, he’s willing to have a “peace deal” with Ron Paul?

Besides L4L, you seem to be a supporter for Obama instead of Romney…so why should you give a hoot if she’s on TV or not?

And is it any worse when Chelsea Clinton was given airtime as a “Special Reporter”…or George Stephonoplous was given a show on ABC?

Where was the outrageous outrage from your ilk then?

I get it, she has a following, you’re addicted to her tweets and Facebook posts. But the majority of the country can’t stand her, thinks she’s dumb, and recognize she is a selfish tool. You think she changes the dynamic, she’s powerful? Then why is Lisa Murkowski a US Senator? Why didn’t Newt win Alaska? Where we’re all of her loyal fans when she instructed them to vote for Newt? There are not enough of you. You just make a lot of noise.
