Video: The greatest arrest ever?

posted at 6:35 pm on March 29, 2012 by Allahpundit

To cleanse the palate, via NBC, this one’s burning up Twitter and will be mega-viral by tomorrow so get in on the ground floor now. Apparently there does exist a rare twilight state of drunkenness in which you’re bombed enough to get arrested yet not so bombed that you can’t perform “Bohemian Rhapsody” in its entirety. The most magical moment: At 1:30 when he re-creates the tinkling piano and then launches into an impassioned “mamaaaaaaaaaa.” You’re going to be famous, kid. For something you don’t even remember doing.

Exit question: How did this not end up as a taser video? Good lord. By the time he got to “Bismillah,” I needed a drink myself.

I’m aware it has that potential. I’m also aware we have a DoJ who is unlikely to seek the death penalty even in this case. Obama has yet to even call it terrorism and he has told us as recently as Friday night that we must not jump to conclusions. That doesn’t sound like an administration willing to treat this terrorist like a terrorist.

I believe that he is in a lot better shape than is being reported. He was not covered in blood and was breathing on his own when he was arrested. All they did is give him some oxygen. He was intubated because of his neck wound but now it has been removed. I suspect that they will drag his sorry butt to court this week.

Yet, I can’t help but thinking that the media has this as wrong as so many other “facts” they’ve reported on this terrorist attack. I have wondered about the bombs, too. I’m curious what explosive they used, and if they made it themselves. Making plastique is very dangerous, often to the point where a would-be bomber often blows himself up during the process. Or, and worse, did they have access to smuggled or stolen material?

Odd, isn’t it, that us lay folks are asking the questions the media refuse to speak?

That’s because we aren’t afraid to call it terrorism. We are okay with the idea of a military tribunal in lieu of federal court. And we aren’t committed to the lie that there hasn’t been an act of terrorism on American soil since Obama took office.

I hear what your saying but it really isn’t rocket science. The knowledge is readily available on the internet. I really would love to know if the older brother did attend training camp in his visit last year because that surely would have made it easier for him to construct these devices if he had hands-on experience. IMHO.

D-fusit on April 22, 2013 at 8:26 AM

I note that if he is declared an Enemy Combatant, Obama could recall Col. Lindsey Graham to active duty with the Air Force Reserve and have him assigned as defense counsel. That could make all four of these Senators rethink the partisan BS.

Four Republican members of Congress — Sens. John McCain (Ariz.), Lindsey O. Graham (S.C.), Kelly Ayotte (N.H.) and Rep. Peter T. King (R-N.Y.) — had demanded Saturday that Tsarnaev be treated as an “enemy combatant” rather than as a common criminal suspect

Right. Because McCain, Graham, and King prefer to treat law-abiding gun owners as criminal suspects. (Especially King.)

I say Mirandize him. If he’s been here for a decade, and is naturalized, I do not believe that he isn’t aware of the Miranda warning. Which means he’ll most likely keep right on answering questions.

I want to see him tried, and if convicted (pretty much a foregone conclusion based on the evidence) I want the book thrown at him, index, dust cover and all. What I don’t want to see is a reversal on appeal because all the I’s weren’t dotted, and all the T’s weren’t crossed enroute to SuperMax or wherever.

Nail his a$$, but do it by the book.

Nadal Hassan appeared to be a good American too. When he became radicalized, the Army in a fit of political correctness transferred him to Fort Hood and told him he would be deploying instead of dealing with a radicalized Muslim Army officer.

The Tsarnaev brothers clearly turned radical but even after being questioned by the FBI and denied citizenship, the older Tsarnaev was allowed to stay as resident alien. Why? I think we need to get an answer to that question first.

It would be tough to recall Miss Lindsey. As a Senator, I’m sure he is in the Standby Reserve. In theory, the DoD would have to have no other individuals available to do the job before touching the Standby Reserve. And I’m sure that even under a military tribunal the leftist attorneys would be lining up to represent the terrorist.

But more to the point, why exactly is the idea of military tribunal “partisan BS?”

Water board him. Apply some pressure to his wounds.

Heck, forget that, send Jack Bauer to ask the questions. We’ll have all we need to know within a few minutes. Oh wait..

It’s a new day. Terrorism is on the run. Obama got Bin laden.

They’ll want to make sure he’s comfortable, not intimidated and that they respect his religion. Let me see… if I were a lib.. I’d want to know if anyone had bullied him. Did he feel threatened by Christians in the area? Did he feel some people were treating him differently because of his religion? Was he trying to send a message out he needed help. Did he feel sorry for what he did. Saying “sorry” could go a long way toward the healing process.
Also.. it’s important to know if he played video games. Was he copying some character in a movie? Did he even have an understanding that his bomb was real? Or did he think it was pretend, like in the video games and on TV? And the most important question.. did George Bush trick him into doing this?

I’m also curious what they found in the terrorist’s apartments. If they were cooking up bombs at home there would probably be evidence. If not there then where and by whom?

Happy Nomad on April 22, 2013 at 9:26 AM

Islamist separatists in the Russian province of Dagestan, where Tamerlan Tsarnaev visited last year, Sunday denied any connection to the bombing.

If they had a connection would they admit it?

The Taliban denied any connection with 9/11. They just allowed their “guests” to come and go as they pleased, plan the attacks while there, and train their terrorist operatives there.

I would imagine that there is a bit of skill in rigging up a detonator that involves cell phones.

[Happy Nomad on April 22, 2013 at 8:16 AM]

I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s an app for that.

Dusty on April 22, 2013 at 9:26 AM

We live in a strange country. Half of the ruling class wants wide open immigration with no border security, free everything if you vote their way and a press that paints everything pink. After everything that happened last week, the press is now aware that someone can get a gun without a license. These 2 mopes had to have help. You don’t just wake up one day and decide to build bombs and kill people.

Kissmygrits on April 22, 2013 at 9:27 AM

Serious question. Will Dzhokhar Tsarnaev became a darling of the left the way that Philidelphia cop killer or Bradley Manning have become?

Happy Nomad on April 22, 2013 at 9:19 AM

The excuse mill has already begun warming up. On Twitter, there is a following that believes Tsarnaev is innocent. In the LSM so far, a few narratives have been tossed out, aimed at Republicans.

I think the more the liberal media ‘analyze’ the case, the more likely they’ll make him into some kind of anti-hero. That may not be the intent right now, but I suspect it will be a result — much like the Mumia case.

al queda’s MO has shifted some the last several years. the shoe bomber was someone they actually trained and sent on operation they planned. now they seem to be training those committed to jihad and then sending them on their way. so while they may have trained the bombers they wouldnt have given them a target or planned the op w/ them. this way they have a level of plausible deniability and operational security. it in no way absolves them of responsibility of course.

Family of Tamerlan’s wife saying he Brainwashed her…Now friends of the brother saying the same thing.

So the defense will be…

workingclass artist on April 22, 2013 at 9:18 AM

It’s very easy to make the dead terrorist into the mastermind. I’m sure the leftist lawyers lined up to represent this dirtbag will make the most of Tamerlan’s absence to defend “poor little Dzhokhar” from getting what should happen to him.

Personally, I think Dzhokhar should meet the same fate as his brother. 300 rounds fired in his general direction followed by being run over with a Mercedes SUV.

Happy Nomad on April 22, 2013 at 9:32 AM

He’s a US citizen so everyone’s a little on edge about the “enemy combatant” route. How about we try him for treason? I know it’s old fashioned, but why have laws against treason if we never use them?

I fear you are correct. I mean it was only a bomb that killed three (including an eight-year-old) and caused traumatic amputation of 30. You can kill a cop and blow up the US Capitol and still be a tenured professor who is in the President’s inner circle of friends.

Dzhokhar has a bright future ahead of him indeed.

Happy Nomad on April 22, 2013 at 9:36 AM

…did they ask him if he would like to go by lethal injection…electrocution…firing squad…or by hanging?

He became a naturalized citizen on 9/11/12. Seems like his status as a citizen is a bit overdrawn.

The ironic thing, of course, is that he became a citizen on the same day a US ambassador was sodomized and killed by an Islamic mob in Benghazi. This terrorist attack in Boston will be as covered up by this administration as they have hidden the truth about what really happened in Lybia.

That’s culturally insensitive. Muslims should be given the choice of stoning as well.

onlineanalyst on April 22, 2013 at 9:54 AM

A military tribunal also observes the terrorist’s Constituional rights. It is following the law but choosing the most appropriate venue for trying terrorists.

Any other stupid things to say? Why don’t you go out and start a legal defense fund for poor Dzhokhar Tsarnaev since you clearly care more about his well-being than the death of an eight-year-old.

Happy Nomad on April 22, 2013 at 9:24 AM

If it’s the same thing why are the rights afforded under it so different? Indefinite detention without charges is the same as prompt due process and a speedy trial?

And your donning of trollish aspersions in place of rational argument doesn’t fit well on you, Happy Nomad. It’s a mark of your insecurity about your inferior argument and makes you look lazy.

So now there are citizens and there are “a bit overdrawn” citizens?

Does the oath of allegiance we require now come with time periods to come fully into force before they are applicable?

What’s Benghazi got to do with following the law in this case other than an opportunity for you to yell, “Squirrel!”?

they didnt just download instructions. someone showed them how and probably they built several test bombs.

chasdal on April 22, 2013 at 9:22 AM

And your evidence for this is…?

Because we know the type of bombs AQ can build, from people appropriately trained and practiced. We saw hundreds of examples of it during the occupation of Baghdad. Had this been an IED with the power and sophistication and precision that we saw deployed in Iraq, we would be talking about three hundred people dead in Boston.

Or, maybe he did have the training, and it just didn’t take. Like the part where they advised him to not use 25-lb pressure cooker bombs as grenades…

JohnGalt23 on April 22, 2013 at 10:29 AM

The Tsarnaev brothers don’t appear to have been idiots but I don’t get the sense they were smart enough to do all this by themselves either.

Happy Nomad on April 22, 2013 at 8:16 AM

I have wondered about the bombs, too. I’m curious what explosive they used, and if they made it themselves. Making plastique is very dangerous, often to the point where a would-be bomber often blows himself up during the process. Or, and worse, did they have access to smuggled or stolen material?

Odd, isn’t it, that us lay folks are asking the questions the media refuse to speak?

Liam on April 22, 2013 at 8:21 AM

I haven’t heard any precise information about what explosive they used. ‘Plastique’ is a vague and nearly meaningless term. Simple ‘plastic explosives’ are very easy to make. Good quality plastic explosives are more difficult to make. Military-grade plastic explosives are much more difficult to make.

Given their application, they had no need for an explosive with a plastic property. McVeigh-style soupy homebrews would work just fine.

It’s more likely they used readily available ‘smokeless gunpowder’ for reloading shotgun shells, which of course is not really gunpowder.

slickwillie2001 on April 22, 2013 at 10:55 AM

You know this is a death-penalty case if it goes through federal court, right?

Ed Morrissey on April 22, 2013 at 8:05 AM

Ed,

It was explained that his interrogation (or any statement he makes) is not needed to convict him because the body of evidence already provides that.

So Mirandizing him or not makes no difference to the state’s case against him. Secondly, if he decides to take the stand during trial to defend himself, his statements outside of Miranda can then be brought up on cross-examination to impeach his testimony, not to prove his guilt.

What they’re after is intel about the why and if anyone else is involved.

Slight snag there. Lil’ Joker is a US citizen. He cannot be tried by a military court.

Period.

BobMbx on April 22, 2013 at 11:07 AM

They won’t need to “torture” him. He will crack like an egg. He will latch on to the first authority figure he meets, to replace his brother.

I don’t believe the CIA and FBI are reading here, but please, please, no PC here! If they whitewash this like they did Hasan, the rest of the country will lose all faith in them.
