Sarah Palin: I think the president’s comments on Trayvon Martin were orchestrated

posted at 2:30 pm on March 29, 2012 by Tina Korbe

In an interview on Fox News, Sarah Palin said she thinks the president’s comments about Trayvon Martin were orchestrated, according to a report by Todd Starnes.

She … called out President Obama – saying he should not have jumped into the growing outrage over the shooting.

“I think it was orchestrated,” Palin said. “I’m going to get clobbered for even suggesting this, but it is what I believe.”

The president addressed the shooting in the Rose Garden.

“My main message is to the parents of Trayvon Martin. You know, if I had a son, he’d look like Trayvon,” Obama said. “All of us as Americans are going to take this with the seriousness it deserves.”

“Obviously, this is a tragedy. I can only imagine what these parents are going through,” Obama said. “All of us have to do some soul searching to figure out how something like this has happened.

Palin said she was “very, very surprised out of all the issues that are going on in our country today that the president” would have taken a question about the Martin case.

She said the politicization of the shooting is unfair to Martin’s parents.

Certainly, the president would not have had to weigh in on the case and he shouldn’t have said anything that could even slightly be construed to suggest he was taking sides in the matter. The president probably helped himself politically with his remarks — they were much lauded afterward as illustrative of the “power of the personal” — but he didn’t help to ensure a calm public opinion climate, which is needed so the appropriate people can pursue the appropriate investigation into the facts of the case. Given that the president did weigh in, his subsequent silence is especially notable. As the public controversy surrounding the case continues to intensify, why hasn’t he chosen to diffuse it? Notable, too, is his silence on another recent shooting in which race potentially played a part.

It all matters because outrage, once manufactured, is very hard to tamp down, whereas it’s not at all difficult to whip up when the facts of a case warrant it. In this case, long before we knew all the details, the president was telling us to search our souls. Research by Wilson Perkins Allen Public Opinion suggests that initial media coverage of the incident clearly biased the way Americans view the issue. Those who have seen the most information about the incident have the most antagonistic attitudes toward George Zimmerman. By the same token, the last few days have moved public opinion significantly in favor of Zimmerman. A young boy is dead and another man’s reputation is on the line. Public officials owe it to both Trayvon Martin and George Zimmerman to let the investigation play out with as little disturbance as possible. Both sides are shouting about how despicable it is to politicize this — but they won’t stop. Infuriating.

Wait, so is Tina saying that race potentially played a part in the Trayvon Martin case?
If so, she’s veering from the accepted talking points from the right here – which is that anyone who suggests that as a possibility at all is a ‘race hustler’ or something to that effect.
Interesting.
Is Tina now also a ‘race hustler’? Or is there maybe something different about the example she offers that’s different – and makes the charge more palatable to her.
Hmm…what could it be…gotta be something…
Wait, I think I’ve got the answer:
Rank hypocrisy.

Just ask Bob Dylan, formerly Robert Allen Zimmerman.

No, Zimmermann is a very common German name. That many or most Zimmermans in the U. S. are Jewish might have to do with the German pogroms.

Statistically, I wonder what is the ratio of black citizens murdered by other blacks compared to the number of whites/Hispanics who murder blacks.

sdd on March 29, 2012 at 3:02 PM

When a black is murdered in the U.S., over 90% of the time the murderer is . . . another black. (But statistics are racist, as you must know). Also, blacks commit violent crimes — including murder– against whites at a much higher rate than whites against blacks (but the Southern Poverty Law Center says it’s not blacks’ fault. They’re poorer than whites, and The Man is always keeping them down, so of course they’re not going to respond well to all the oppression and deprivation they suffer in the U.S. I’m giving both sides, since one of the loony libs here accused me yesterday of being a white supremacist).

that’s a HUGE “gash”! why is this hour old wound not bloodied? or bandaged? or stitched?

DBear on March 29, 2012 at 3:08 PM

Because he is an honest American who believes he should pay for his own medical care.

The police encouraged him to go to the hospital and pay a fortune to care for his wounds. Zimmerman instead chose to go to one hour care the next day for far less money. Simple financial decision. I have insurance so Hospital cost $35 but I still wait for One Hour Care to open whenever possible and pay $15. But more importantly keep Emergency Room open for actual emergencies.

Thankfully there are many honest Democrats still in America.

How long ago was slavery abolished? How about Jim Crow? How long have we been spending trillions in taxpayer dollars in handouts and using reverse racism(euphemistically called “affirmative action”) to minorities in order to help the supposedly disadvantaged? And where are we at today as a society?

No one on here is denying this nation’s history. What we are saying is that when we’re generations removed from the Civil Rights Act and a (half)black man is sitting in the damn Oval Office, the days of screaming about institutional racism and “the man” keeping people of color down are long since over. You wanna know why the black community is in such a sorry state? Start with that statistic of 72% of black babies born out of wedlock. That’s far more relevant to their current plight than what some evil slaveowners did to their ancestors 150-200 years ago.

May I point out, Obama doesn’t look like his white grandparents, who raised him. Not his skin color. This whole thing about what someone’s son would look like, or father, to me, it’s bulls***. It doesn’t have anything to do with anything, except to create racial divisions, and whip up passions based on the color of one’s skin. That’s our President Obama. Why else did he say that Trayvon would look like his son? Is that what’s important to Obama? The color of someone’s skin? Why isn’t Obama being called out more on this?

Gov. Palin needs to take her own advice here and not comment about the case (other than to express pro-forma sympathy), or tangential matters, at all. Robert_Paulson on March 29, 2012 at 3:05 PM

Uh….obviously you didn’t even hear what Palin said. She specially said that it’s amazing that politicians are commenting on the case without knowing all of the facts and said that it was a tragedy that a young life was gone and expressed sympathy with trayvon parents. She didn’t comment on the case but criticized Obama for exploiting it wit his comments.

Just what are Republicans supposed to do? Stand aside and let innocent people be arrested on manufactured evidence and say nothing?

All I have heard from the right is do not rush to judgement. Why is this case more important than others where there is much more evidence as to what happened. Why is it unimportant when Blacks kill whites because they are white without question? Why was all the evidence in this case of Zimmermans innocence supressed and a cherry picked portion of his 911 call released and used to propagate a false narrative that he followed after when he did no such thing quite the opposite?

You must question racism whenever it raises it’s ugly head. In this case it is racism by blacks against whites. But it is just as evil as the other way around.

Paul-Cincy on March 29, 2012 at 3:17 PM

Fair enough, for sure. But the racial connotation to this has been there since the beginning and there IS still a question as to what really went on, and that’s the thing, people just don’t know. It’s true, I suppose, that his comments could have come from a cynical “orchestrating” intention meant to poke the bear with a stick and stole the fires. But couldn’t it also be equally possible that all he was trying to do is express that he understands the dynamics of this question in a personal way? Wouldn’t assuming otherwise be just that as well, assumption?

I just don’t find from his comments any reason to even bring it up. It wasn’t outrageous and I don’t think it stoked any flames at all. The guys just not really capable of that anymore and people have pretty well stopped listening even if they don’t dislike him, because 9 times out of 10, it’s just pointless politician platitudes.

Also, perhaps it’s possibly it wasn’t about saying my kid would be like Trayvon while yours just wouldn’t, in a sort of you whitey’s just couldn’t understand type way, and more of simply trying to empathize with the community that is most upset by this, to say, look I understand? Cause yeah, if you’re white your child won’t look like Trayvon Martin, but they probably won’t end up shot by a “neighborhood watch captain” walking home from the convenience store either, even if they did get into a fight.

Again though, only my opinion and not saying any one shouldn’t be allowed to hold a different one. Just thinks Sarah’s here is a little petty and of all the things in the world, a pretty impotent issue to choose to use to help continue to build opposition, which would also lead her to be accused of orchestration to HER comments here, on this issue.

Unless they are trying to gin up hatred, why are the pictures of Zimmerman and Martin not current pictures? The one of Martin most used by the media is of a 12-year-old smiling, apple-pie kid. The one of Zimmerman is a mug shot from some years back that Zimmerman looks like a thug.

It’s only when you see current pictures of the two that you go, “Wait. What?”

The current pictures of Martin are of a snarling, hate-filled young man. The current pictures of Zimmerman are of a man in a three-piece suit who looks ready for an interview with IBM.

Also, why do certain “news” organizations keep calling Zimmerman “white” when it should be Hispanic-Caucasion if you’re going to be technical? Why is Zimmerman “white” when his blood-line is half-and-half and Obama is “black” when his blood-line is half-and-half. It seems to me that racism is only used when it benefits whoever is telling the story and the way they want it told and portrayed.

Finally, you said that those who have seen “information” about the incident believe Zimmerman is guilty. My question is what kind of “information” have they seen? Like those pictures above? Or the kind that has Martin’s brother warning him against punching out a school bus driver, flipping off the camera, and being suspended from school multiple times? And WHY did ABC publish the name of the 13-year-old witness in the case and not the girlfriend? It’s all agenda-driven, and I agree with Sarah… it ain’t no accident that the media is pushing this so hard or that Obama spoke out about it.

Palin’s right. And people that have brains and pay close attention, having pegged Obama long ago are tired of this corny, jaded shtick. I’ve seen clips of the Obama presser re Trayvon and I had the TV muted (but subtitled). After he speaks the sacred words of Trayvon “looking like his son” he gazes dramatically off into the horizon for a beat. All that was missing was the sad piano music. Or a violin’s, whatever your preference.

Dear Mr. President: Despite your directive that “all of us have to do some soul searching to figure out how this happened” I, for one, decline to participate in that activity. I could search my soul until I’m blue in the face and it won’t make a rat’s patootie’s worth of difference to what did or didn’t happen here. Nor am I on board with “all of us as Americans are going to take this with the seriousness it deserves.” That’s not my job and frankly, it’s not your job either. As such, I respectfully request that you, your wife and your nanny state touchy feely nit wits cease and desist from telling me or anyone else what we “have to do” and instead focus on doing the job that some seriously deluded voters gave you.

Again though, only my opinion and not saying any one shouldn’t be allowed to hold a different one. Just thinks Sarah’s here is a little petty and of all the things in the world, a pretty impotent issue to choose to use to help continue to build opposition, which would also lead her to be accused of orchestration to HER comments here, on this issue.

libfreeordie on March 29, 2012 at 3:04 PM

What utter nonsense. Obama saying if he had a son he’d look like Trayvon wasn’t some subtle celebration of his blackness. Obama was suggesting that Trayvon was innocent, and that we racist white Americans should be searching our souls to find out why is it that an angelic little black boy can’t walk unmolested through a residential neighborhood without risking being shot by some white (hispanic) Klansman. It’s the same kind of crap we heard from Michelle Obama during the 2008 campaign — lamenting how much she has to worry about Baraka being a black man in racist America; how he could get shot just going to the gas station to buy gas. Michelle left out the inconvenient fact that if Baraka did get shot, chances are something like 94% that it would be another black man pulling the trigger. It was no accident that she left out that part; she was doing the same thing Barry and Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton and all the other race-baiting morons have been doing — pretending that blacks in America are constantly under attack from racist whites.

Yes, Barry understands why black people are angry, because he’s from the same Critical Race Theory cesspool of non-stop victimhood that keeps blacks believing in this garbage.

Doughboy on March 29, 2012 at 3:33 PM

Most GOD fearing Republicans are hoping for a return to the Constitution as it existed at our founding.

Gay Rights are totally manufactured and have no constitutional basis. You can choose to act on gay tendencies or not act. It is a choice. No doubt a very difficult choice for some. Just as difficult a choice men make every day to not fornicate or commit adultery. God gave us desires but commanded us to control those desires to within the boundaries he set. That being Marriage of a Man to a Woman.

I feel that fornication, adultery and sodomy should all still be illegal. Just as was the case in every State until about 80 years ago.

Having said that it would be a long process to get back to that. Many many years. So for now Satan has won the battle. I pray he never wins the war.

They would be demanding that the Department of Justice arrest and prosecute a white person who put out a bounty on a Hispanic man’s head.

But they won’t do it for Spike Lee or for the DNC/Obama Black Panthers.

Why? Skin color. No other reason. They are discriminating solely on the basis of skin color.

They are pathetic, filthy, disgusting racists. And the fact that they follow and worship proven liars and racists Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton only proves how racist they are.

Oh, and DBear, all your screaming about “gay rights”?

That’s certainly true here. We have a very popular mayor in my city – a democrat – who likes to go into the worst parts of town and talk about how awesome he is and what he’s done for them. Those neighborhoods have gotten progressively worse over the years. It’s the neighborhoods that my parents grew up in, and now you don’t even want to drive through them – it’s that bad. But they sure love their Obama signs in the storefronts.

If orchestration in the manner she used it is only meant as making a statement with political intentions behind it that have little to do with the actual case at hand, then accusing her of “orchestration” in her comments is just about as equally valid as speculating the same about a rather innocuous response to a question by Obama.

Good piece by Juan Williams, but he went a little off the rails with his supposed facts:

Despite stereotypes, the responsibility for the Florida shooting lies with the individual who pulled the trigger. The fact that the man pursued the teen after a 911 operator told him to back off, and the fact that he alone had a gun, calls for him to be arrested and held accountable under law. The Department of Justice is investigating the incident and the governor of Florida has appointed a special prosecutor to review the case.

that the media asked him a question.
