Limbaugh: My ratings are up from 10% to 60% across 600 stations lately
posted at 7:10 pm on March 29, 2012 by Allahpundit
Via the Daily Rushbo, the inevitable postscript to last night’s semi-official demise of the Campaign for Perpetual Outrage. Who could have guessed that heavy media coverage of an initiative to get him thrown off the air would make radio listeners even more curious to hear what he’s saying? Shirt-rending indignation at the acts of a provocateur never backfires in real life.
I bet Bill Maher’s ratings are healthy lately too relative to his usual numbers. Second look at everybody moving on?

For every advertiser he has now or loses, there are 20 standing in line, with wallets out. This is from a friend of mine who happens to own a controlling interest in a company that regularly advertises on his program. He’s seen ratings and marketing numbers that are so astounding that the decision is not whether to just buy slots to increase sales but to block competitors from taking his company’s place at the table. It’s called defensive advertising, but Limbaugh’s number are that strong, despite what you hear.

Some advertisers who quit Rush soon saw such a drop in sales that they asked to return. Rush and the EIB Network refused most of them.
Most advertisers Rush ‘lost’ weren’t his in the first place. They paid the local stations for time, and opted out during Rush’s time slot. The local stations lost the revenue, not EIB.

From what little I have read about that, it only applies to the New York City station. Rush’s latest ratings are up in fact. The NYC problem is probably due to poor station management. Drudge covered this a week or two ago.

I’d feel bad for the guy if he hadn’t brought this all on himself by being so arrogant as to think he was above reproach, invincible, destined to be the best president ever, trampling on his predecessor at every turn and making exhorbitant promises he couldn’t possibly keep. But it wasn’t Rush Limbaugh that did him in, it was MSNBC and his own Democratic Party. They set him up for failure. No one could have been capable of fulfilling their lofty expectations.
scalleywag on May 13, 2013 at 10:41 PM
I don’t think they can as long as WABC has him. And WABC has consistently had a stellar roster of talk show hosts going all the way back to Bob Grant’s early days. I have a hard time believing that WABC would just piss it away.
gryphon202 on May 13, 2013 at 10:41 PM
No one is dropping Limbaugh.
If Rush left AM, the entire bandwidth would implode within a year and none of you are taking into consideration how much SiriusXM would give him to jump ship.
The deal he could make would dwarf what he gets now, because it would have points based on new members, plus control over his iTunes app.
Rush stays om AM so everyone else on AM stays employed. Hannity and Beck could not survive without him and they know it.
That’s the real reason the progs go after him. They know if he goes digital, the AM band will cease to be, which removes one of the last true mass broadcast outlets in the country. You can’t call 15-20million people a niche in a market where top ten TV shows garner a fraction of the audience they did twenty years ago, and top news shows only pull 3 million.

And, by now “what difference does it make anyway”
BUT. . .anybody out there recall the blatantly fraudulent campaign finance shennanigans from the 08 election? The website that would take money from ANYONE with a valid CC or Debit Card number? No limits on donations (just use a new name, Mickey Mouse works fine), or had any sort of verification that it was even a US citizen contributing (which made the French ecstatic, IIRC).
Remember that? You know, ACTUAL CRIME. From the beginning? That NOBODY seemed to be interested in pursuing, at ALL? Even when team Skippy was publicly patting themselves on the back for pulling it off?
How about it, AP? How about a nice trip down memory lane, or a reach into the memory hole, and pull out just one more big huge Excedrin moment for the current occupant of Government Housing on Pennsylvania Avenue. PLEEEEEZE.

As a former brain-dead leftie, I can tell you that a big part of it is ignorance. You, Rush, HA, the Right, the Koch Bros et al are The Devil. The Devil cannot be reasoned with, or even examined because he/it are evil incarnate, and therefore can only be fought and destroyed.
Tolerance of evil is a sin, therefore no questions are asked and no quarter is offered.
I have old comrades who really believe Dick Cheney is the Anti-Christ and they sincerely wish him dead.
The Devil is also a seductress, so when you read or listen to Rush, HA etc you open yourself up to The Dark Side – because it is powerful and will confuse you.

Incompetence all around. When Joke Biden revealed the existence of Seal Team Six and their role vs Osama, they became a target for revenge. Thus the ambush and the shootdown.
A competent Special Operations Command should have shut down Seal Team Six and hour after Joke Biden shot off his mouth, moved them back to the US, and reformed the entire Special Forces into a structure that was once again confidential.
Why didn’t they? Didn’t want to embarrass Joke and the REB.

You’re forgetting that ABC no longer owns WABC. Cumulus Media does.
And Cumulus is controlled by a ruthless exec in Lew Dickey, who wants his own cheaper in-house programming on his stations rather than shows produced by outside sources.
It’s better for Lew’s bottom line if he drops Rush on all his talk stations for Mike Huckabee, even if the ratings on all stations plummet to microscopic levels. In New York alone, Lew believes that WPLJ and NASH FM can offset a worthless WABC (and Rush is the only show keeping WABC afloat right now).

PappyD61 on May 14, 2013 at 7:45 AM
His point, such as it is, appears to be that because there are successful liberals, liberalism is proven correct.
Like all liberals, he doesn’t understand cause and effect. That someone has liberal political viewpoints did not make him/her rich, nor did it lead to the invention of anything. Of course there are rich and successful liberals. There are also rich and successful conservatives. That has nothing to do with whether tax rates should be higher or lower, whether gov’t should be bigger or smaller, or whether ethanol should be subsidized.
I actually wrote a comment on a thread during the last presidential primary season about how some republicans/conservatives were fetishizing “business experience”. I pointed out that we used to like our candidates to have real world business experience because it helped them understand the problems businesses faced from taxation/regulation and because running a business helped a candidate understand real-world accounting, budgeting and the like. Something you cannot get from gov’t experience. However, business experience wasn’t the end all/ be all. Policy positions and philosophy still mattered
However, during the primaries I saw a lot of people that simply stopped their analysis with “business experience”, as if anyone with enough business experience would make a good president.
I think libtards like Bayam are now fetishizing business success from the opposite side of the aisle. For a long time, liberals (outside of Hollywood) were not really represented in the business community. Now, with Zuckerberg and Gates and others, they have high-profile liberals to tout. And, true to form, they are trying to equate liberalism with business success. They are now trying to claim that liberals are “better at capitalism”, which is quite silly.
It’s silly and anti-factual. As if Microsoft were run using liberal philosophies rather than cut-throat capitalist philosophy and tactics. Even Ben and Jerry’s, the ultimate alleged hippy company, is actually quite cut-throat and capitalistic in its business. It’s tactics in the marketplace that it used to gain success would make 80′s movie corporate villains blush. But with enough marketing, they are perceived as nice, honorable hippies out to save the planet.
It’s very easy to be liberal with other people’s money and business. Every single one of these “liberal” businessmen are not liberal in regards to running their own businesses. But that fact is never understood by the likes of Bayam.
Monkeytoe on May 14, 2013 at 7:50 AM

I agree with this, in this way. Rush has a certain love affair with AM radio. When he was a kid he was given a junior broadcaster set and his mother would listen to him on the radio. AM gave him his first job. Finally, he has the individual power to make the media bend to his wishes.
Finally, one other thing; the heartland of America still gets up to AM radio. I’ve lived in a small southern community and have listened to the 6AM broadcast. While the heartland has digitized, AM radio is where it goes to listen to local news. Part of Rush’s love affair with AM I believe is also with this picture of small-town America. And while he has enormous pull in big cities, his total network share in small towns is almost 100%. Nah, Rush won’t leave AM, he knows where America’s heart is.
itsspideyman on May 14, 2013 at 8:07 AM
1) Benghazi
Obama can’t say 1 word about this issue without LYING. Yesterday in his joint press conference with the British Prime Minister he was asked about Benghazi & he insisted he called it terrorism on Day 1, earning him an immediate ’4 Pinnochios’ from the media.
2)IRS
The IRS targeting the Tea Party, anyone associated with the words ‘Patriot’, ‘Constitution’, anyone suggesting that we TEACH the Constitution, & anyone who criticizes how the government is being run. Again, Obama opens his mouth and the lies come flying out. The very 1st question yesterday at that press conference was about the IRS scandal, and Obama insisted he only found out about it last Friday. A ‘news rebuttal’ immediately came out exposing the fact that the White House was briefed on 22 April about the scandal!
) AP Phone Conversations
NOW, on top of the other scandals, we now know that in an unprecedented act, the DOJ tracked 20 phone lines of AP reporters and editors, an entire collection of records.
As the administration is under seige from reporters, Congress, & outraged Americans over this administration’s incompetence, ‘Chicago gangland’ politics, & out of control law/Constitution violating act, Denial & finger-pointing remains the main item on the WH menu!
According to Obama, he never knew anything about anything regarding Benghazi – it was all handled at lower levels. According to Hillary she never knew about the 2 previous terror attacks against Stevens or that he had asked for more security in Benghazi. Neither one of them were given the CIA reports, never ordered anyone to stand down, & everyone who knew it was a terrorist attack didn’t bother to pull them aside after they kept saying it was all about a video & correct them. All decisions about Benghazi were made by lower level peons. The CIA reports were modified 12 times by low-level peons. According to the WH they didn’t know anything about the IRS scandal until Friday, despite being briefed on 22 April – the scandalous activity was perpetrated by low-level peons. Now we know the DOJ tracked all these AP records/conversations, etc but I am sure it will be explaned that it was done by LOW LEVEL PEONS!
According to Obama, NO ONE is IN CHARGE of his administration, that the ‘low level peons’ are running amuk & doing whatever they want. Obama is NOT in charge – he is an OSTRITCH with his head in the sand – he & Hillary love the power but are not ‘plugged in’…that is IF you buy their BS that they knew nothing, know nothing, & never made any of these decisions.
If being directly involved is Impeachable, which it is, then NOT being in control of HIS government & their departments (Hillary) should be Impeachable as well. We KNOW he/they is/are lying, they have been and are covering up, & more & more is going to come out about these 3 areas…and in others. The Obama administration is leaking like a sieve…It’s not the Titanic yet….but that sound we heard MAY have been an iceberg….

One of the reasons the Internet was built was to secure America from nuclear attack. Many things fell into place, but one of the focuses was to create a communication system that would survive even if most of the network was destroyed.
Lots of other reasons too, but it was those evil capitalists at the RAND corporation who help start it.

Haven’t listened to Rush for over a year and a half but I’ll be tuning in today and quite possibly in the coming days as well.

The man was bragged to be the smartest in the room, educated at elite colleges and universities, gave courses while in school on the Constitution, and a lawyer (without passing the bar) but needed a prompter to talk to a fifth grade class; of course someone needed to program the prompter. All this shoved down our throats and told to respect the President. Yeah right!

Translation…As I stand here campaigning for some six years now, my intentions over the next 3 1/2 years is to make you believe that I am going to govern. My accumulation of $8trillion in debt in no way will affect the next generation.
It’s enough to take your breath away!

Washinton Times: Obama finds his legacy
… and its name is scandal.

Because he was speaking to the choir, to people who don’t read the newspaper and don’t want the boring details of all the screw-ups and venal actions that have happened in this Administration. Their President is awesome, and they just know he would be making everything better if only those mean old Republicans would let him!
As long as there are audiences of rich sycophants to give him the adoration he craves and the validation of his politics, Obama will never care what anyone else says about him or the optics of what is or isn’t doing.
He. Just. Doesn’t. Care.
