Limbaugh: My ratings are up from 10% to 60% across 600 stations lately

posted at 7:10 pm on March 29, 2012 by Allahpundit

Via the Daily Rushbo, the inevitable postscript to last night’s semi-official demise of the Campaign for Perpetual Outrage. Who could have guessed that heavy media coverage of an initiative to get him thrown off the air would make radio listeners even more curious to hear what he’s saying? Shirt-rending indignation at the acts of a provocateur never backfires in real life.

I bet Bill Maher’s ratings are healthy lately too relative to his usual numbers. Second look at everybody moving on?

Wethal on March 29, 2012 at 7:14 PM

It’s always endlessly amusing to observe lefties react to that statement.
From the start, it betrays their mindset and life outlook.

Their reaction is usually something along the lines of “what an egomaniac!” or “he thinks he’s God!”.

In reality, anyone with a semblance of common sense and perspective realizes it’s the most humble statement possible-any talents any of us have are ‘on loan from God’.

carbon_footprint on March 29, 2012 at 8:30 PM

Sounds like Rush is being pretty honest here-he could have claimed that his ratings were up 60% across the board, or even half that. But he admitted some were only up 10%.

As for HBO, I keep it because I’m a fan of the “Treme” series, but that’s about all. Although I will give them props for landing the premiere of the Martin Scorsese film about George Harrison last October.

Del Dolemonte on March 29, 2012 at 8:38 PM

I love Rush, and I do think that in this case his new higher ratings can be interpreted as more success for him. However, this has never been a question of ratings as if there were people who would no longer listen to the show because they were so offended; rather, the situation was that some of Rush’s most consistent sponsors were withdrawing their support under the threat of being boycotted. When they left, that meant that Rush had to move in second-tier sponsors.

I watched this all happen with Beck. The problem wasn’t Beck’s ratings, since the boycott actually helped those (at first, though later he had problems with ratings in general). It was that the most valued sponsors left so that it was necessary to move in second-tier sponsors, ones who weren’t as willing to pay top dollar. In Beck’s case, the boycott was more effective for this reason, and eventually it hurt Fox who turned around and fired Beck.

Obviously that didn’t happen in this case, but that was always the danger.

Burke on March 29, 2012 at 8:43 PM

Here’s Bill Maher’s ratings, in million viewers:

17-Jan 1.106
23-Jan 1.13
6-Feb 1.232
29-Mar 1.093

He lost a few, but not many. He certainly didn’t go up.
