Obama to Medvedev: I’ll totally cave on missile defense in my second term if Putin will give me “space”

posted at 8:40 am on March 26, 2012 by Ed Morrissey

Ah, open microphones at photo ops.  Is there anything they can’t expose?  And is there any lesson about them that Barack Obama can learn?  Five months after reporters picked up a conversation in which Obama and French President Nicolas Sarkozy disparaged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamim Netanyahu, Obama forgot to check the microphones yet again in a conversation with Russian President Dmitri Medvedev.  This time, however, the microphones picked up the sound of Obama begging for some political help from Vladimir Putin — in order to gain the “flexibility” to cave on missile defense:

President Obama: On all these issues, but particularly missile defense, this, this can be solved but it’s important for him to give me space.

President Medvedev: Yeah, I understand. I understand your message about space. Space for you…

President Obama: This is my last election. After my election I have more flexibility.

President Medvedev: I understand. I will transmit this information to Vladimir.

This, to quote our Vice President, is “a big f*****g deal.”  What solution does Obama envision that would pay off for Putin so much that the Russians would agree to the “space” necessary by keeping quiet about US plans for its deployment?  The only possible answer would be the dismantling of even the smaller missile-defense system to which Obama committed in 2009.  And it looks as though Obama has already tipped his hand to the Russians — against whom this particular defense system would be mainly ineffective anyway — in exchange for political assistance to influence the election.

Scott Johnson says that this is a “space program” he can’t support:

The man has big plans for us — the kind of plans he won’t be sharing with the American people. Not yet.

Something tells me this next election is a big one. Let’s kill Obama’s “space” program.

Obama won’t share these plans with the American people. However, he’ll share them with the Russians, and ask for their help in influencing the election.  That should tell American voters all they need to know about this President.

Or perhaps not.  What other nations has Obama asked for “space” on American foreign and national-security policy so that he can win a second term?  And what American interests is Obama willing to trade for that “space”?

His name was Aaron Burr.

President Obama: On all these issues, but particularly missile defense, this, this can be solved but it’s important for him to give me space.

So we can assume there are at least three issues including missile defense that Obooba is working on with Putin, that he cannot disclose to the American people. Otherwise he would have said “both” rather than “all these.”

MNHawk on March 26, 2012 at 9:56 AM

Now would be a good time for Rick Santorum to tell us how he plans to vote for Obama over Romney.

It is also a good time to hear how Romney is Obama-lite from Sanoturm supporters, and how they plan to not vote or vote for Obama.

It is scary to think what this president would do if given another 4 years. Literally scary. And some people think Romney is like Obama (when they could not be any more different), and are seriously considering not voting or voting for Obama.

The most dangerous time possibly in our history will be between the day after the election and the Inauguration of our next President in January.

Barry Hussein Soetoro will be COMPLETELY unchained, and completely UNHINGED. He will feel REJECTION for the first time in his life. As we’ve seen, Obama is DANGEROUSLY thin skinned and behaves like an immature little brat when he perceives any criticism of His Awesomeness-ness. How do you think he’ll take NATIONAL rejection?

Anything from using a lame duck Senate to pack the Supreme Court to ordering all the “red” states to be nuked is within the realm of possibility. He will probably refuse to accept the results of the election and will fight it in a manner that will make Algore look dignified. Hopefully not, but with Barry you have to expect ANYTHING.

He certainly will go off and rave on Americans, that we proved ourselves “unworthy” of “Him”.

I certainly CANNOT see him sulking between November and January and not attempting do do damage to this country.

One can hope is that the TRUE legacy of Barack Hussein Obama Jr is that he is remembered for going so crazy and ripping the false mask off the democrat party to the point that he discredited the liberal/socialist/communist/progressive movement for a generation.

wildcat72 on March 26, 2012 at 10:13 AM

I am quite sure that a fired-up Mitt Romney will be front and center about this; denouncing Obama and his apparent sell-out to the Russians for some help in the election in the harshest of terms. Oh, wait! He is not called Mittens for no reason. He won’t utter a peep about this. When asked about it he’ll deflect the question and change the subject. So it will fall to Sarah to call out the bastard. So sad that the only Republican leader with any balls is a woman.

Everything Obama has already done to damage America he has done knowing that he has a reelection coming up. Barry will “share” our missile defense systems with the Russians, rendering them impotent.

Being as he’ll have more “flexibility” in his last 4 years, he’ll pay off Red China with a couple of slightly used aircraft carriers.

Being a 3rd world country, relying on only wind and solar power, we won’t need those ships anymore.

Barry can then fly off to Paris in retirement.

If he goes nuclear and tries to EO in place his Diktat, it needs to be met with a hellstorm of IMMEDIATE opposition from our elected Republicans (especially the new congressmen and senators) and by massive civil disobedience. Obama EO’s and regulations issued post election are ILLEGITIMATE. Indeed, some good may come of this, if he does attempt all out destruction after the election to head off the new administration and Congress, we might FINALLY get “lame duck” sessions and actions outlawed. Maybe even to the point that the Congressional and Presidential terms start and END the day after election day…

Fortunately the fact that we already control the House going in will prevent Obama from doing damage with actual legislation. We will have to worry about EO’s, regulations, and possible actions by the Senate.

If I were Mitt Romney or Rick Santorum I’d ALREADY be crafting an EO ready to be signed and dated the day of the Inauguration that renders ALL EO’s and regulations enacted by the Executive Branch between election day 2011 and Inauguration 2013 null and void. After the election and Obama starts his Reign of Terror, I’d be on TV every day assuring the American People that this ends on Day 1.

Do I think that would actually HAPPEN? No. Thankfully it’s the Air Force who actually pushes “the button” (actually it’s turning the keys) and unlike Obama, they MEANT IT when they swore their oath to the Constitution. Being ordered to attack American Citizens on US soil definitely represents the type of unlawful order that I’d hope ANY soldier from the most junior private to the most senior General or Admiral would automatically disobey!

Do I think Barry might have a complete breakdown to the point he might ORDER such a thing? Absolutely. Obama has been “the golden child” his whole life. He doesn’t know failure (at least in his mind). He doesn’t know rejection. He reacts to the word “NO” like a 2 year old. He’s repeatedly demonstrated his thin skin. The US Secret Service might well have to lock him up in a rubber room for HIS OWN PROTECTION if he suffers total breakdown after losing the election.

Obama is what you get if you let a child age to 50 without teaching him any humility or responsibility and handing him everything he wants WHEN he wants it.

He won’t go quietly. I also anticipate that along with the rejoicing by the majority of voters because Obama’s not been re-elected, we can expect rioting and a lot of violent crime of a variety of kinds after this November’s vote.

Obama and the Left have surely already established a “destruction to America” plan of action for after he’s out of office along with “if” (as he is planning) he is re-elected. Obama’s out of office activities are going to be really, really destructive, is what I think.

I’m glad you said this. I was going to try. I think people terrified that there won’t be an orderly transfer of power forget how many people won’t play along. Not the Democrats in Congress (who would turn white as sheets), not the Secret Service, not anyone. You can’t have a Coup with one angry man (give or take a cadre of sycophants) vs. America, and I think that’s about what it would be.

I don’t think Obama distinguishes between Islam, Christianity, Hinduism, humanism, wicca, any of those. I see no reason for him to newly profess fidelity to one over another now. Religions all the same, countries all the same, people all the same. And if they’re not, then make them the same. If they won’t be made the same, pretend they’re the same.

Paul-Cincy on March 26, 2012 at 10:58 AM

He won’t go quietly [...] we can expect rioting and a lot of violent crime of a variety of kinds after this November’s vote.

Axe on March 26, 2012 at 11:00 AM

Obamacare taxes, fees, whatever won’t kick in until at least 2013 — after Obama’s last election. Gas prices won’t hit European levels before the election. Obama won’t capitulate to the Russians until after the election. All politicians are always conscious of the next election, but I’m having trouble remembering any that were as craven about making that fact known.

UnrepentantCurmudgeon on March 26, 2012 at 11:01 AM

How about if we just send President Barack Husein Obama “INTO SPACE!” Outer space…without a space suit, strapped to the outside of a rocket.

There needs to be an open mike anywhere this enemy of the people opens his treasonous mouth.

This is not a surprise for anyone that has been awake and paying attention since before this man was elected President. It IS WHO YOU ASSOCIATE WITH that verifies your character.

Main stream media will claim that this was all just a misunderstanding and we are just too stupid to be in on the plan which is to throw off Russia by making them think….blah, blah, blah… Bush, was spotted in Texas riding a bike or some such thing.

Cant wait for Carney’s daily spin on this topper.

ActinUpinTexas on March 26, 2012 at 11:02 AM

I believe there is still a super majority of Americans who are disgusted by liberalism and will not hesitate to fight back if/when attacked.

Roy Rogers on March 26, 2012 at 10:56 AM

That’s something else that never gets said. The riots aren’t answered — that doesn’t mean we’re too weak to answer them. We call the police, move, and let the cans burn. But a complete break in civil order? It would be a serious mistake to walk a mob down my street under those circumstances. It would be a very short uprising.

I think we have a little more order in the well than some people fear.

Geez. It’s come to this conversation?

Axe on March 26, 2012 at 11:05 AM

Obama to Medvedev: I’ll totally cave on missile defense in my second term if Putin will give me “space”

IF, if by some stroke of evil fate, Obama is re-elected…Medvedev and the rest of the Putin crew will be asking us “Ty govorish po russkiy? Da ili nyet? They will then proceed to behave as they wish they could today with wild abandon.

What this Obama guy is doing under normal circumstances in normal civil times would be seen as a criminal enterprise and Team Obama would be RICO’d to death in a heartbeat.

Robert-A on March 26, 2012 at 10:06 AM

All of the above. This is at once alarming, dismaying and enlightening. Even in the best scenario – his defeat in the November election – America has a lot more to endure. The Hot Gassers who believe BHO will conduct a scorched earth policy snit fit between Nov. and Jan. ’13 are correct. I hope all the voters who made this possible are proud of themselves. They have ‘made history’ alright.

ghostwalker1 on March 26, 2012 at 11:11 AM

Wow! We just saw TREASON right before our lying eyes! We all know the spin is coming so be prepared. Man oh man, I never thought I would see and hear a US president sell out his country on live TV. This should be the headlines in every news paper and TV program in our nation. It should be the number one talking point in all four of the Republican candidates stump speeches.

inspectorudy on March 26, 2012 at 11:12 AM

I just wish this had happened something like a week before the general election in November.

JEM on March 26, 2012 at 11:12 AM

That’s why I asked. A true Narcissist is capable of pretty much anything at that point, and you described the mindset so well I wondered if that was what you were coming from.

I’m not sure. I think he’s just an arrogant man. I think he’ll give a speech and go home. Angry, sad, etc., but he’ll just go home.

I HOPE so. This is what every President before him has done. Even Clinton didn’t attempt to sabotage incoming President Bush other than juvenile frat tricks (removing “W’s” from keyboards). America has a centuries long tradition of PEACEFUL transfers of power.

Axe on March 26, 2012 at 10:56 AM

This is certainly true today. One man attempting a coup is UNTHINKABLE to the point that I don’t even think most of the democrats would go along with it. Thing is, we get many more Barry Soetoros elected to run wild with executive power, relying on a personality cult and this could change.

Obama WILL NOT be the first American Dictator but his actions have done much to pave the way for a FUTURE one. Unless his 4 years are completely repudiated.

Also keep in mind the polls prove he is no longer popular. A Chavez type becomes dictator riding a wave of mass popularity. Obama no longer has this. Losing the election, especially if he loses it BADLY (which is what I expect) would FURTHER weaken this.

The left goes only as far as they dare, and they dare too much these days.

Obama will be remembered as the most divisive President this country ever endured. Worse than Carter, but ensuring a conservative majority for the next 20 years.

Roy Rogers on March 26, 2012 at 11:14 AM

Why is anybody still surprised by this? He will do his damnedest to leave your country mired in debt, as defenseless as possible and as torn by racial and social strife as he can make it.

I think that according to him America does not deserve to be the world’s leader, but should humbly take its place as one nation among all the others, preferably under the “benevolent guidance” of the UN. As the American people are foolishly not going to give up their world leader status voluntarily, he’ll just undermine you until you have no choice.

You guys better vote wisely in November…

And on and on.

Israel, with respect to not striking Iran’s nuclear program before November.

Axe on March 26, 2012 at 11:00 AM

That is the worst case: Obama in a fit of pique sets loose the “mob”, then uses it as an excuse to run nuts with EO’s.

Holder would abuse his power (nothing new) and would charge local police who attempt to restrain the “mob” with “raaaaaaaaacism!” charges.

Obama then issues blanket pardons to the “mob” on his last day in office. He might even pardon every black in prison. Or even EVERYONE in prison. Opening the prisons is one method used by dictators to terrorize and threaten citizens…

wildcat72 on March 26, 2012 at 11:18 AM

Has anyone told Biden about this? As dumb as he is I would trust even him over Obama as insurance against anything foolish post election rejection.

Murf76 on March 26, 2012 at 11:19 AM

What if we have to vote in the middle of mass riots by rioters bussed into critical precincts? Would that be a free election?

That is not outside the realm of possibility. The “new black panthers” have already OPENLY issued a reward FOR THE MURDER of a citizen and Holder isn’t going to take ANY action whatsoever. OWS is back as well, and predictably, they are more violent this time around.

If the mob is turned loose you know for damn sure they will assume that anyone who is white is NOT an Obama voter…

Destructive is the word that freightens me.

And as usual the stoneless Republicans and partisan Dems aren’t drafting the required articles of impeachment this hot mic quote duly deserves. Oh sure, this will appear in a campaign ad, but honestly, if we have a POTUS that will confide with Russians but not the American people what his real plan is for our security — I mean, I can’t believe this isn’t a huge firestorm of a scandal, and it makes my heart grieve, honestly, to know that nothing will come of it. Sigh.

Obama is not gullible, and he will not become more gullible. He is intentionally damaging our country and he will ratchet that up if reelected, or in his lame-duck session if he is not reelected. Think of it like Hussein setting the Kuwait oil-fields on fire on his way out.

Won’t happen.

I’m not saying he won’t TRY it, but it won’t happen.

As I said (above), he’s not popular enough anymore for a populist coup to succeed. Plus, coups are NOT in our national or political nature.

If Obama rigs the election to the extent he’d have to in order to “win” or if he refused to LEAVE OFFICE in January, he’d not be ruling from the White House, he’d have to hide in some bunker somewhere from the US Military and pretty much everyone ELSE.

It’d be the shortest lived dictatorship in history.
