Good news: Nancy Reagan character in new movie to be played by … Jane Fonda

posted at 10:05 pm on March 26, 2012 by Allahpundit

Via JWF, a late-evening palate cleanser from your resident eeyoreblogger to send you to bed in a bad mood. I was searching for a joke here but couldn’t think of a precise analog for Hanoi Jane. “Co-starring Rosie O’Donnell as Mamie Eisenhower”? That doesn’t work; hate Rosie all you want, but she never posed for pics sitting on enemy guns. “Co-starring Bill Ayers as the Gipper”? Nah, that’s actually not fair to Fonda. She may have posed for the pics but she never tried to blow anyone up. Ah well. This ingenious bit of stuntcasting makes me as excited to see the movie as any roundhouse kick to the groin possibly could. Well played, Lee Daniels.

I’m sure it’ll be a rich, fair, thoughtful portrayal. Can’t wait for the kuh-ray-zee seance scene.

In the midst of recruiting an all-star ensemble for his long-gestating passion project “The Butler,” director Lee Daniels has tapped Jane Fonda to play Nancy Reagan.

Based on a Washington Post report by Wil Haygood, pic follows Eugene Allen, the White House butler whose career started with Harry Truman in 1952 and ended in 1986 with Ronald Reagan…

Daniels, who is directing from a script he co-wrote with Danny Strong, is in the process of finalizing financing for the pic, which has no distributor onboard yet. Pamela Williams will produce through Laura Ziskin Prods. along with Hilary Shor.

How about Vanessa Redgrave as Nancy Reagan instead? Michael Moore as Dick Cheney? C’mon, there has to be an apposite analogy here. And no, they can’t go out and get Streep. Granted, she did okay with her first conservative-icon role, but I’m pretty sure she’s beyond their budget.

Box Office Bomb.

Not that anyone would want to see another leftist’s movie on Reagan, but by putting one of the most toxic actresses in Hollyweird in the role of Nancy, the director just guaranteed that this movie will have about as many viewers as Air America had listeners.

Muff cabbages, all (with apologies to Trey & Matt)…

She may have posed for the pics but she never tried to blow anyone up.

That we know of. The picture of her sitting on the anti-aircraft gun was a still. All we have is her word that she didn’t pull on a trigger at least once. Hanoi Jane urinal stickers are going to be popular again.

Well at least she comes with her own horns and pointed tail that they will surely add to the character, so that will save on extra prosthetics.

I’ll watch about anything being the hard to offend type… but this is where I draw the line.

The libs are indeed getting desperate. I’ve seen enough. Jane Fonda is the wife of the man who turned around America. Disney is making this movie, right… right? It’s up their expertise alley.

MeatHeadinCA on March 26, 2012 at 10:21 PM

predator on March 26, 2012 at 10:22 PM

Having a dead-behind-the-eyes communist playing Nancy is nothing more than an insult by the disgusting hollywood leftists toward Reagan’s memory and everyone who agreed with him.

Why don’t they just admit they’re commies and start wearing sickle and hammer tattoos on their foreheads so we know who to ignore the second they show their faces in public.

Wolfmoon on March 26, 2012 at 10:23 PM

So Hollywood is no longer in the profit business. Now they’re strictly in the ‘insult’ business.

Good luck with that…

katy on March 26, 2012 at 10:23 PM

Wow.

….

Can Nancy sue for defamation of character?

Hawkins1701 on March 26, 2012 at 10:24 PM

It will be Alec Baldwin.

Electrongod on March 26, 2012 at 10:14 PM

Nah, couldn’t be Baldwin – he would have to lose about 150 lbs, he’s too short and his brain would explode if he had to repeat something Reagan actually said.

Knott Buyinit on March 26, 2012 at 10:26 PM

The juxtaposition would be hilarious if not so friggin’ jarring:

When you think of Nancy Reagan, you think class, poise, dignity, grace and loyalty.

When you think about Ms. Fonda….anti-America, traitor and hyprocrite jump right out (granted there were some lame exercise tapes along the way).

I somehow think that this won’t work for me except in a comedic way.

Khun Joe on March 26, 2012 at 10:54 PM

Daniels, who is directing from a script he co-wrote with Danny Strong, is in the process of finalizing financing for the pic, which has no distributor onboard yet.

You know, Danny Strong is quickly climbing to the top of my sh-tlist. This little(and I mean LITTLE) punk is the hack who wrote Recount, Game Change, and now this debacle. Recount was tolerable since aside from Katherine Harris, it at least treated the Republican characters with a modicum of respect(although it still clearly slanted left in its POV). But Game Change was a farce and Hanoi Jane as Nancy Reagan is all you need to know about where this project is headed.

For those of you who were Buffy the Vampire Slayer fans, Strong played Jonathan, one of the “Nerds of Doom”. He was a recurring character throughout the series and was the nerd who stood about 5 feet tall. He’s gonna make it very hard for me to sit through episodes of that show where he guest stars and not become nauseous. Well, except for the one in Season 7 where….well, if you’ve seen it, you know what happens to him.

Doughboy on March 26, 2012 at 10:56 PM

Besides the fac t that I hate Hanoi Jane…I lost friends and a fiancee in Vietnam…there is one other detail Nancy Reagan was 60 when she was First Lady and the disgusting never made a decent movie slut Fonda is 75. Yes she has had enough plastic surgery so she looks younger but in photos that aren’t airbrushed she looks much older.
And no she wasn’t/isn’t a good actress. Any of her movies that were good were because of the rest of the cast. It pains me to not watch Cat Ballou because Lee Marvin was fantastic and had one of the best lines in any movie. But if Hanoi Jane is in it I refuse to watch it…maybe after she’s dead.

I remember that story from years ago, when my Stepfather was still alive. He loathed Jane Fonda with a fierce, abiding passion, so when he heard that story he looked into it. The story you recount isn’t true, although her actions throughout her visit were bad enough and would certainly constitute treason if the federal government was ever serious about pursuing such charges against a leftist. Snopes.com has a fairly comprehensive article dealing with the animus Vietnam veterans especially hold toward Hanoi Jane. That said, what is verifiable is enough to make your blood boil.
