Classy: Obama hawks ObamaCare “BFD” shirts on Twitter

posted at 10:30 am on March 24, 2012 by Ed Morrissey

Thank goodness the President of the United States has a Twitter account.  Amidst the maelstrom of rude and coarse conversations, at least we have the leader of the free world setting an example of decorum and maturity.  Or, er … not, as the Twitter curation site Twitchy discovered last night:

Health reform—still a BFD, and now it’s on a t-shirt:OFA.BO/z7FP8M

Barack Obama (@BarackObama) March 24, 2012

This refers to another classy moment from Obama’s handpicked Vice President, Joe Biden, who famously declared the passage of ObamaCare a “big f******g deal” as he introduced Obama to the press afterward.  At the time, as Allahpundit noted, Obama didn’t look happy to hear that from Biden at the podium, but hey — a merchandising opportunity is a merchandising opportunity, no?

Nor is this the first time that the bill’s fans have tried to use the BFD moment to raise money for Democrats.   They discovered that ObamaCare was very much a BFD on 2010, but not in the way the thought.  Democrats took the worst drubbing in midterm elections since The Great Depression, only afterward discovering just how badly they bungled their assumptions on the bill.  According to polls by Rasmussen and the Washington Post, Obama is still bungling the assumptions by thinking that ObamaCare will be a BFD in his favor this year, with large majorities wanting partial or full rejection of the bill by the Supreme Court, including in the Post poll a plurality of Democrats.  Marist confirms this in another poll today, although you have to get past a dozen or more paragraphs to discover it:

As the Supreme Court weighs the law’s constitutionality next week, a new McClatchy-Marist poll finds that a majority of voters want at least part of the measure thrown out. Thirty-five percent want the entire law repealed, and another 21 percent want its mandate that everyone buy insurance — its fundamental core — thrown out.

Just 34 percent want to let the law stand as is, the national poll found.

IOW, most voters won’t be LOLing.  They’re saying WTF to this BFD, and IIRC, that’s SSDD from 2010.

ctmom on March 24, 2012 at 10:46 AM

In a way, Obama is right. Obamacare is a BFD –

Over 700 San Diegans Rallied for Religious Freedom: Elite Media Minimizes. There were over 130 cities that held similar events yesterday. Most of the ones in major cities were attended by 1000 plus people. All were focused on the HHS mandate’s threat to First Amendment Protections.

The elite media has tried to downplay reports with false numbers as questionable polls. However, every Bishop from the nearly 200 Diocese in America has sent a formal letter of protest, and the events brought together people of all faiths and races who know get what an existential threat the administration is.

I don’t think BFD means what Team Obama thinks it means, though.

Bmore on March 24, 2012 at 11:11 AM

Anyone wanna bet a bundle the GOP will rescind this “BFD?”

The truth is that they love it too. Why else should anyone vote for them -except as a BFD of a choice between the “Bad cop or worst cop” games they engage in with their socialist friends across the Aisle?

They are ruthless folks up there and they aren’t about to throw away the many millions of upset people’s votes for decades into the future. It’s as good of a electionering faux issue for them to milk as was Roe vs Wade.

I suspect that before a few more Grannys and Grampys are tossed into the recycle bin with those fetuses, that the big game in town will be, which party gets to pick the death panel appointees and the SC will be yesterdays fear game.

Cynical -you betcha!
