Controversial new Santorum ad: “Welcome to Obamaville”

posted at 8:37 pm on March 23, 2012 by Allahpundit

Watch the spot first and try to guess which part has been flagged as controversial before you click here to check your answer. I knew he’d get rapped for it the moment I saw the ad this morning, and if a dummy like me saw it coming, it’s hard to see how his ad team didn’t. Or maybe, having consumed online political media voraciously for the past six years (burp), my sense of what gets them to perk up is simply better honed than Team Sweater Vest’s? Either way, here’s the campaign’s adamant denial that they were equating anyone with anyone else. No worries, guys: Our bipartisan debt bomb will get us before the Iranian bomb does.

Dave Weigel calls this “Umbrage Bait” designed to offend Team O and get them talking about the (implied) charge. Maybe, but I’m not sure how that moves Santorum one inch closer to the goal line of beating Romney.

Any more “controversial” than noted leftist jerks attacking Santorum’s grieving process?
The gloves are off this race, it’s either hit hard or curl up and take a beating, because the other side is playing for keeps.

I thought that the controversy might be over the gas pump nozzle to the head image.

Obama and Ahmadinejad? Both love the sound of the call to prayers in the morning….

notropis on March 23, 2012 at 8:43 PM

Is it because Obama’s face flashes across the screen with Ahmadinejad’s in the scary Iran montage part?

rubberneck on March 23, 2012 at 8:44 PM

Ahhhh. Thought so. Well, that’s certainly easy enough to edit out. I guess this ad’s effective, but hey, whatever happened to that good old ‘Morning in America’ style campaign optimism? I’ve never been much for the horror movie stuff.

cynccook on March 23, 2012 at 8:46 PM

It reminds me of a trailer for a horror flick.

Have to admit I thought they would have a problem with the black crow and equate it to him being black.

Good ad. I see nothing wrong. He hates America, and so yes, he is a sworn American enemy.

Awesomely awesome.

Pork-Chop on March 23, 2012 at 8:47 PM

Sigh. This might play with the Glenn Beck disciples, but I think, (IMHO) that most of us are looking for a candidate that is going to work for a positive future- yeah, things are grim, but lets turn them around, get rid of Barry, get the economy on track, etc. etc.

This was another example of Santorum’s slip into instability. He’s not fit to lead a nation. No one wants to be dragged down into the gutter with him.

in this new Rick Santorum ad, which was released today, you’ll notice that Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad morphs into U.S. president Barack Obama right about the time the narrator says “sworn American enemy.

This ad is in really in bad taste because of just one word which was not needed to be said :

Sworn

;-)

M240H on March 23, 2012 at 8:51 PM

This seems as stupid a reason to feign outrage as the time a GOP ad had Democrats scroll across the screen in such a way that there was a fraction of a second where “rats” was visible in a subliminal way or something.

As to Obama- I have no problem with any GOP candidate speak the truth that this man is an enemy to America because that is precisely what Obama’s policies make him. It is either us or him and I vote for us over a Chicago street thug who hates America, hates Christians, and sees nothing wrong with the Muslim terrorists that threaten this nation. He is a traitor and more Americans should be denouncing him.

Happy Nomad on March 23, 2012 at 8:51 PM

Seems to me the “controversial” bar is set pretty low where Barry is concerned.

So when Santorum attacks Romney, he needs to shut up and leave him alone. And when Santorum attacks Obama, he needs to shut up because he’s not attacking Romney.

I was thinking the same thing about the whole Muslim-American morphing into a Muslim dictator thing.

It is not an ad that I would ever have run. Too much like a movie trailer for a really bad horror film. It would take Obama far more than two years for America to reach the conditions depicted in that ad- though I have no doubt that is where we will be if the jug-eared traitor gets four more years and is unfettered by re-election. Just look at the way he spit and Catholics and told them to shut up and start paying for abortions BEFORE the elections. I can only imagine what the Muslim bastard would do after getting a second term.

Happy Nomad on March 23, 2012 at 8:57 PM

Dave Weigel calls this “Umbrage Bait” designed to offend Team O and get them talking about the (implied) charge.

Obama (correctly) sees Santorum as nothing more than a transient amusing little gnat, so likely they wont get baited by this latest bit of Santorum idiocy. Besides, you’d need a program to keep up with Rick’s delusions: Romney=Obama=Ahmadinejad.
Yet another Santorum backfire, oy.
