Are you ready for … Biden 2016?

posted at 2:20 pm on March 22, 2012 by Ed Morrissey

Yes, I know I’ve already done one palate-cleanser for today, but why not two lightweight posts?  And hey, at least according to Politico, the idea of Joe Biden running for President in 2016 is, to quote their headline, “not so crazy.”  That makes it only slightly less serious than a second term for Barack Obama while unemployment stays above 8% and the estimations for economic growth this year hover around 2.2%:

For the past couple of years, Vice President Joe Biden has quietly assembled an A-team of advisers who would, without doubt, be considered the nucleus of a presidential campaign — if only he wouldn’t be 73 in 2016.

Biden’s age would snuff the last embers of a presidential ambition that led him to a pair of crushing defeats in 1988 and 2008, or so many in Barack Obama’s camp thought when they first tapped him. But the old fire crackles yet. And Biden, spurred in part by those rumors about being replaced on the ticket by Hillary Clinton (who turns 69 in ’16), is campaigning with a young man’s tenacity in 2012 — with an eye toward keeping all of his options open.

Biden has gone on a recent staffing spree — culminating with the hire of Clinton-era operative Steve Ricchetti — that has many Democrats, and even some on Obama’s own team, wondering if the preternaturally spry and congenitally upbeat vice president just might confound conventional wisdom.

Heck, that makes my job easier.  We’ve just passed the three-year anniversary for Obamateurisms; I might need a separate blog for Bidenisms if he ends up with the top job.  Job security!  Obama has already told us he just does what Biden tells him to do anyway.  We thought that was a joke, but …

Besides, who else would be around to teach us military history?  Consult with wealthy donors on how well they know the middle class?  Give us updates from his travels in “Road Island“?  And that’s just what we’ve seen in the last month.

Biden has as much shot at winning a Democratic Party nomination in 2016 as Ron Paul does this year in the GOP.  It’s nice of Politico to take him a little seriously in this article, but they’re probably the only ones who do.

Obamateurisms are going to be around for a long time. Rumor has it, that this Biden 2016 talk is just a diversion from the Obama’s real plans for 2016 – Michelle Obama.

Selecting Joe Biden to be VP was Obama’s first major Presidential decision.

Who would have thunk that Obama’s subsequent Presidential decisions would only get worse?

Vote BOTH Obama and Biden out of office in November!

I’ll never forget the comfort President FDR provided the nation after the market crash of ’29 when he went on television and talked us all of the ledge. Thank God for Joe and his gentle reminders. If his 2016 campaign doesn’t pan out, he can always go teach history somewhere.

Discarding a possibility of Obama winning in 2012 and running in 2016 is overly optimistic. Isn’t he an historical President? And wasn’t that precisely what Bloomberg did in NYC?

Pretty sure NY Gov Andrew Cuomo is going to run in 2016 and if he does he’ll be the Mahout in that primary regardless of whether Biden runs or not.

I dont think Biden will run because he cannot be elected POTUS. But if he does run, Cuomo will not be scared out of running and will knock Slow Joe over like bowling pin in the primary.

Sacramento on March 22, 2012 at 3:11 PM

Ed, I’m surprised you didn’t include the video from The return of “fake but accurate”. If there’s anything that would make Republicans happy, it’d be running against Biden as the Democratic nominee for POTUS. Personally, I’d love to see Palin as our nominee running against slow Joe one more time.

its a joke and goof, sure, ok. BUT, there is something that will be a story in about a year or so that no one is llaking about burried in here. AFTER obama is destroyed and the GOP holds the house by 60 seats and picks up 8 senate seats…after they (MSM) go on the hunt and destroy of obama personally so the messenger can go down, to save the ideology, the next question for the MSM will be: who will run and defeat XXXX (gop potus) in 16? now right now, we have an embarrassment of riches: ryan, daniels, pawlenty, every loser this year (except RP), christie, jindal, noem?, haley?, add in 6 others. NOW, remember in march 2013, the dems are destroyed. looking to 2016. how many names come up? we know not biden. hillary? pelosi? reid? anyone there under 70? how mnay of ours are over 70? under 55? they have NObench. they are toast. ok, my gov, the putrid o’malley and the NY gov. anyone else? its going to be the story of the next 4 years: the dearth of any dem leadership. which is a good thing. everything will change in 9 months.

On Tuesday, the White House held a reception for visiting Irish Prime Minister Enda Kenny. Vice President Joe Biden, speaking at the event, relayed some old Irish wisdom.

“You know there’s an old Irish saying, there’s all kinds of old Irish sayings. My grandfather Finnegan, I think he made them up. But uh, it says, may the hinges of our friendship never go rusty. Well, with these two folks that you’re about to meet if you haven’t already, there’s no doubt about them staying oiled and lubricated here,” said Biden.

In Joe’s defense, he probably heard it and claimed it as his own.
