Quotes of the day

“The National Debt has now increased more during President Obama’s three years and two months in office than it did during 8 years of the George W. Bush presidency.

“The Debt rose $4.899 trillion during the two terms of the Bush presidency. It has now gone up $4.939 trillion since President Obama took office…

“The National Debt also now exceeds 100% of the nation’s Gross Domestic Product, the total value of goods and services.

“Mr. Obama has been quick to blame his predecessor for the soaring Debt, saying Mr. Bush paid for two wars and a Medicare prescription drug program with borrowed funds.”

***

“The public seems to agree by a wide margin, with a recent Fox News poll finding that 59 percent of respondents felt the Supreme Court should repeal either the entire bill or parts of it. A new ABC News/Washington Post poll is even worse for the president, with a total of 67 percent saying the mandate or the whole law should be thrown out…

“Asked about the poll numbers, Carney insisted that the poor numbers are due to Republican attacks, a sign the White House believes the problem is the message not the substance of the law.

“‘The polling data suggests in part the hundreds of millions of dollars that was spent attacking it,’ Carney told reporters. ‘And what we’re focused on is implementing it so that Americans — more and more Americans see the benefits that it brings.’”

“Obama and his advisers have cast the collapse of the [grand bargain] talks as a Republican failure. Boehner, unable to deliver, stepped away from the deal, simple as that.

“But interviews with most of the central players in those talks — some of whom were granted anonymity to speak about the secret negotiations — as well as a review of meeting notes, e-mails and the negotiating proposals that changed hands, offer a more complicated picture of the collapse. Obama, nervous about how to defend the emerging agreement to his own Democratic base, upped the ante in a way that made it more difficult for Boehner — already facing long odds — to sell it to his party. Eventually, the president tried to put the original framework back in play, but by then it was too late. The moment of making history had passed…

“A president who promised to bring the country together, who confidently presented himself as the transformational figure able to make that happen, now had his chance. But, like earlier policy battles, the debt ceiling negotiations revealed a divided figure, a man who remained aloof from a Congress where he once served and that he now needed. He was caught between his own aspirations for historical significance and his inherent political caution. And he was unable to bridge a political divide that had only grown wider since he took office with a promise to change the ways of Washington, underscoring the gulf between the way he campaigned and the way he had governed

“What happened during those days in July when the grand bargain was almost reached, but not quite, had changed him. He no longer seemed divided.

“His goal now was unequivocal: to win a second term.”

“Obama said Lincoln — an oft-mentioned Obama role model — understood Americans are one nation, and they rise and fall together. He contrasted that with ‘on-your-own economics’ which he says his Republican foes embrace.

“‘They’ve got a simple philosophy: We are better off when everybody is left on their own, everybody writes their own rules,’ Obama said…

“‘That shift that has taken place in the Republican Party we haven’t seen in a very long time,’ he said. ‘In 2008, the guy I was running against, the Republican nominee, he didn’t deny that climate change might be a problem, he thought it was a good idea for us to ban torture, he was on record as having supported immigration reform.’”

***

“The frustrations of the presidency once had Barack Obama reach for a literary metaphor.

“‘At times he couldn’t help feeling, as he told one associate, a kinship with the protagonist in Ernest Hemingway’s The Old Man and the Sea,” writes David Corn in his new book on the presidency.

“‘He had, against tremendous odds, caught a big fish, but on the long voyage back to shore, his prized catch had been picked to pieces by sharks,’ Corn writes.”

***

“Corn writes that after the midterm elections, Obama told labor leaders in December 2010 that he held Fox partly responsible for him ‘losing white males.’

“‘…Fed by Fox News, they hear Obama is a Muslim 24/7, and it begins to seep in…The Republicans have been at this for 40 years. They have new resources, but the strategy is old,’ Corn recounted Obama as saying…

“And in a meeting with an adviser after the 2010 midterm elections, Obama slammed corporate executives for attacking him.

“‘I saved these guys when the economy was falling off a cliff,’ Obama said, according to Corn. ‘Now I get nothing but their venom.’”

JPeterman on March 19, 2012 at 10:53 PM

He was elected in 2004 and came to D.C. in January 2005. I think he began campaigning sometime in 2006. While in D.C., as you know, he specialized in voting present. One time I tried to track down any major piece of legislation which he initiated or helped shepherd through Congress. I believe I came up with zilch. So much for his service.

Prior to that his time in the IL legislature was much the same. Emil Jones took legislation that other Dems had worked on and handed it off to Obama to finish to build a “record” of work.

So dude spent a mere 2 years in the Senate and had accomplished nothing before he decided he’d gotten bored with legislative work and sought higher office(again).

“Mr. Obama has been quick to blame his predecessor…

We must continue to shine a bright light on the hypocrisy and flat out lies of the Democrats.

Obama entered Congress in January 2005. He joined with Pelosi and Reid in condemning the debt that was being accumulated under President Bush and a Republican Congress.

In order to win the 2006 elections, the Democrats made specific promises about deficit spending. They promised to END deficit spending.

If you remember, the Democrats delcared war on deficits in 2006.

But that was just a campaign promise, used to regain control of Congress. Once in power, instead of ending deficit spending, they more than doubled it.

To win the House and Senate in the 2006 elections, here’s what Pelosi, Reid, and other Democrats (including Senator Obama) rightfully criticized:

Fiscal Year End Date, Majority Party, Increase in Debt (i.e. Annual Deficit)
9/30/2006 Republican majority $574 Billion ($0.574 Trillion)
9/30/2005 Republican majority $554 Billion ($0.554 Trillion)
9/30/2004 Republican majority $596 Billion ($0.596 Trillion)
9/30/2003 Republican majority $555 Billion ($0.555 Trillion)

Here is what Pelosi, Reid, and other Democrats (including Senator Obama) promised in 2006:

Instead of piling trillions of dollars of debt onto our children and grandchildren, we will restore “Pay As You Go” budget discipline…

Our New Direction is committed to “Pay As You Go” budgeting – no more deficit spending.

Here’s what Pelosi, Reid, and Obama produced in Fiscal Years 2008 – 2011:

Fiscal Year End Date, Majority Party, Increase in Debt (i.e. Annual Deficit)
9/30/2011 Democrat majority $1,229 Billion ($1.229 Trillion)
9/30/2010 Democrat majority $1,652 Billion ($1.652 Trillion)
9/30/2009 Democrat majority $1,885 Billion ($1.885 Trillion)
9/30/2008 Democrat majority $1,017 Billion ($1.017 Trillion)

They criticized “piling trillions of dollars of debt onto our children and grandchildren”.

They promised “no more deficit spending” in order to win control of Congress, but then went on to produce the four worst deficits in the history of America.

They produced deficits that were more than 2.5 times the size of the deficits they had criticized. They didn’t keep their promise to end deficit spending… no, they more than doubled deficit spending!

The four deficits that Pelosi criticized totaled $2.279 Trillion.

The four deficits that Pelosi produced totaled $5.783 Trillion.

The four worst deficits in the history of America now belong to the Democrats, and are over 2.5 times the size of the previous four worst deficits under Republican majorities.

I don’t know yet what the actual increase to debt will be at the end of FY 2012, but I do know that

Barack Obama unveiled his new budget ten days ago, which had a deficit of $1.39 trillion for this year

So, now the five worst deficits in the history of America belong to the Democrats… after they promised in 2006 to end deficit spending.

And now Obama and the Democrats have accumulted more debt in three years and two months than President George W. Bush did in 8 years!

Democrats are liars and hypocrites.

“A president who promised to bring the country together, who confidently presented himself as the transformational figure able to make that happen, now had his chance…”

Barack Obama, by referring to “the country” (“promised to bring the country together”) was and continues to be referring to HIS SELECT GROUPS, not to Americans in general.

Obama has a “core” idea of what “America should be” or “needs to be other than what it is” and that’s the “country” he’s representing, and to whom he spoke with his 2008 campaign and is speaking now.

Obama’s parameter, that’s what his Administration is, it’s his parameter of his “country” with the rest beyond “his boundary” as being those and that which he deems opponent, if not enemy.

That’s the ugly reality of what Barack Obama is about, what he believes in, what he’s up to.

We can debate til the end of time whether or not Barry’s the worst President in our nation’s history(I rank him 2nd only to James Buchanan), but he’s easily the laziest I’ve ever seen. Now granted, there’s no real way to know how hard the Presidents of the 18th and 19th centuries worked given how different the media was back then and none of them had cameras and reporters following them around everywhere.

But you hear enough stories about how he waited a year a half to pick up the phone and call Mitch McConnell, or how he outsourced Porkulus and Obamacare to Pelosi and Reid, or the sheer number of interviews and fundraisers he seems to find time for, or all the vacations he’s taken and golf he’s played and at some point you conclude that he doesn’t like working. Oh sure, he’ll campaign 24/7 if he could, but crafting legislation and negotiating behind closed doors is beneath him. I truly believe if he could get away with pulling a Palpatine and declaring himself ruler of the new Empire, he’d do it.

“‘He had, against tremendous odds, caught a big fish, but on the long voyage back to shore, his prized catch had been picked to pieces by sharks,’ Corn writes.

Hemingway, unlike Obama, understood the human character, the desire for overcoming the odds.

It’s only fitting that Obama would think of himself as the catcher of the big fish instead of the Shark-in-Chief who devours its flesh. Mr. Corn, the Old Man’s fish, the metaphor of Hope, is being picked to pieces by a Shark Called Obama.

I’m picturing Obama watching the TV, throwing his head back a la Shatner in “Wrath Of Khan” – “Fooooooxxxxxx!!!!”

whatcat on March 19, 2012 at 11:26 PM

Obama has stabilized the country, the least you can say is thank you.

Delusions are indignant.

That seems to be the consensus. I hope he comes home to Jacksonville. I think he could fill the stadium.

Cindy Munford on March 19, 2012 at 11:27 PM

What makes you so sure that won’t happen if he gets 4 more years?

JPeterman on March 19, 2012 at 11:24 PM

How about if he doesn’t get 4 more years? Somehow, I can’t imaging Obama giving a concession speech.

SlaveDog on March 19, 2012 at 11:27 PM

Like all liberal policies it is messaging, not SUBSTANCE, that is at fault. The fundamental flaw in their thinking is that if they just sell their messed up policies enough then the public will buy in, which is obviously just not the case. Americans by and large don’t want or like Liberal policies, but of course that won’t stop them from shoving it down our collective throats

MyImamToldMeToDoIt on March 19, 2012 at 11:28 PM

SOOOOO – Has Romney come out and AGREED with him. yet?

Because – you KNOW he WILL!!

It’s HIS MISSION!!

williamg on March 19, 2012 at 11:26 PM

You forgot the crucial difference: Romney has private sector experience. OF COURSE he agrees otherwise.

Igor R. on March 19, 2012 at 11:29 PM

Evening all.

Obama should keep the whining up. America just loves a complainer.

BakerAllie on March 19, 2012 at 11:29 PM

Oh, why would Fox say he was a Muslim in 2010 after he’s been in office for two years? That doesn’t make any sense.

Cindy Munford on March 19, 2012 at 11:29 PM

Manning to Denver. Does Tebow leave?

John the Libertarian on March 19, 2012 at 11:25 PM

The Denver Broncos will betray you.

SparkPlug on March 19, 2012 at 11:29 PM

You mean this media, domestic and foreign?

Schadenfreude on March 19, 2012 at 11:23 PM

Since when do 13 year old’s go on spring break? I thought that was a college right of passage thing?

And why is our State Department warning everyone to stay out of Mexico and why have most of the cruise lines all ditched the Mexican Riviera due to safety issues?

JPeterman on March 19, 2012 at 11:30 PM

It’s funny how protective Obama and his admin. are, fear to call the Ft. Hood shooter a Muslim, to call anyone a terrorist, they bow to Muslims, they apologize, they side with the Taliban on women…but he’s afraid to be associated with his Muslim past.

What’s wrong with being Muslim, Mr. President? If I’d be one I wouln’t vote for him, to punish his distance.

I tried…really I did…but it just keeps coming out “Trillion Dollar Stimulus”.

Maybe I need a speech pathologist.

And not the normal wrong-headed trolls, but the frothing retard sort.

0bamaderangementsyndrom on March 19, 2012 at 11:24 PM

You’ll still be in the first 10 at the bread line, ODS, don’t worry your pretty little head about it.

BakerAllie on March 19, 2012 at 11:31 PM

On Fox tonight, Brett Bier said that they could find no footage of anyone on Fox stating he is a Muslim. NTTAWWT! Shouldn’t he have to prove a statement like that?

Cindy Munford on March 19, 2012 at 11:08 PM

Fox may not even have run a video of Obama’s statement about “my muslim faith,” although it is on the net for anyone who wants to see it.

All that, but since when do we have to pay for it, all that security, all the expenses, in times like these.

Michelle Jr. is being ‘trained’ well. She acts as snotty as her parents do.

John the Libertarian on March 19, 2012 at 11:25 PM

I get that Tebow wasn’t all he was supposed to be, but if they get rid of him for an older player with a bum neck they deserve the season they will no doubt get from that.

BakerAllie on March 19, 2012 at 11:33 PM

Shouldn’t Mr. Corn have verified? I’m pretending we all play with the same rulebook. I guess those mainstream outlets think they have their fair & balanced cred covered for the next year.

Cindy Munford on March 19, 2012 at 11:14 PM
