Video: One year later, Zapata family gets no answers on Fast and Furious

posted at 2:30 pm on March 16, 2012 by Ed Morrissey

Drug traffickers murdered ICE agent Jaime Zapata more than a year ago.  The Zapata family believes that their son’s murderers got their weapons from the ATF’s Operation Fast and Furious, and documentation traces at least two of the weapons to dealers known to be under surveillance by the ATF — but the DoJ hasn’t given the Zapatas any answers to their questions.  CNN’s Anderson Cooper talked with House Oversight chair Rep. Darrell Issa about the case and the lack of responsiveness from the DoJ in the Congressional probes:

Cooper should get kudos for keeping up with this story and making sure that it stays on the table, as well as his open approach to Issa. Most of the nine-minute video is dedicated to an in-depth report on Zapata’s murder and the links to Fast & Furious. We need more of this kind of scrutiny if the families of Jaime Zapata and Brian Terry are ever to get real answers as to what happened to them.

Amazing part is the DOJ are patting themselves on the back about their outstanding responsiveness to FOIA but they somehow can’t get it together to respond to congress.

These people just don’t get it.

Sit down and shut up.

Don’t you get it?

This is the face of Socialism … and Utopia.

OhEssYouCowboys on March 16, 2012 at 2:34 PM

And they wont get any answers either.

Speaker John Boehnor and Congressman Darryl Issa conspire to betray America.

SWalker on March 16, 2012 at 2:34 PM

IMO, no one will get any answers out of holder or bho’s team on any of this. They are just letting it slide, slide, and slide somemore. bho and his team have gotten away with murder and just dares anyone to finally get an ounce of testosterone to do squat to hold them accountable. I have to say, Issa and Grassley have at least done something. So far not enough.

So sad for this family. This justice department is truly scarey.

The United States does not have a Justice Department right now, Obama on the other hand does have a Reparations Department run by Eric Holder.

200 dead Mexicans—-NO ANSWERS

2 dead US Agents—-NO ANSWERS

>100 congressman with NO confidence in Holder who have also called for his resignation.

The truth monster can’t find him because he is hiding in Obama’s shadow.

Cooper now sees what it is like when there is no accountability. Unfortunately a single call to CNN by a White House hack will put an end to this line of inquiry. Indeed, I suspect the White House will suggest to CNN that its quota of Obama Praise has not been fulfilled.

Or a letter from the IRS informing CNN and Anderson Cooper that they are being audited will make a slightly less than subtle “Chicago styled politics” suggestion that it be a very good idea to let this story die.

If you’re a ‘reproductive rights activist’ and wants you a box of rubbers for your nookie, you get a call from The Man. If you’re the family of a murdered US agent with a weapon sold to Mexican drug cartels by the US government, then you get the middle finger.

Truth.

Oh come on now, everybody knows this is a fake scandal, otherwise Erick Holder would have long ago prosecuted somebody over it, just like he did those New Black Panthers who were intimidating voters in….. Errr ….. Opps…..

Time was on their side and they held out long enough. No one sang and no smoking gun. They got away with murder.

No, the Republicans are going to drop F&F. They just milked it to gin up some outrage among the base and get a few poll points out of it. They aren’t going to do anything like impeach Obama or try to actually force Holder out of DoJ. It was all just kabuki theater, same with all their other post 2010 behavior.

MaiDee on March 16, 2012 at 4:18 PM

The Department of Injustice and Eric withHolder are an absolute disgrace. Unfortunately they will probably get away unscathed in this. I believe the fix is in (Boehner); someone is compromised.

ghostwalker1 on March 16, 2012 at 4:35 PM

Over 200 human beings have been shot to death because the Obama Administration wanted to influence gun control legislation and justify increased regulatory controls.

A number of folks on the right refuse to believe this. They can’t imagine a DoJ so perverted it would orchestrate the violent, bloody deaths of dozens of people to further an ideological agenda. Breitbart believed it. I believe it. The fact that Holder has stonewalled Congress and outright lied to a congressional committee and made himself vulnerable to a felony perjury charge should make you believe it, too.

troyriser_gopftw on March 16, 2012 at 5:01 PM

Issa has been working on this for a year with very little progress except for a few embarrassing tv moments for Holder. Any other president would have fired the AG and ordered all records brought to light.

Kissmygrits on March 16, 2012 at 5:08 PM

I recall years ago, after the Blackhawk Down fiasco, Les Aspen, then SecDef essentially went to Congress, turned up his hands and asked, “well, what do you think we should do.” He was gone within a week because even the left back then could not excuse such incompetence.

Now, with hundreds dead including two US citizens and likely many more for years to come, we are met with collective yawns, political theater, lying to Congress, and a media reporting on the presidents NCAA brackets.

A surprisingly good report from CNN.
