How do you criticize someone fighting for the betterment of the little guy?

Like that little people lovin’ Robert Rubin – A Goldman Sachs chairman who wormed his way into the Treasury Secretary post under President Bill Clinton, Rubin presided over one of the most radical deregulatory eras in the history of finance.

Rubin’s influence within the Democratic Party marked the final stage in the Democrats’ transformation from the concerned citizens who fought Wall Street and won during the 1930s to a coalition of Republican-lite financial elites.

Rubin’s most stunning deregulatory accomplishment in office was also his greatest act of corruption. Rubin helped repeal Glass-Steagall, the Depression-era law that banned economically essential banks from gambling with taxpayer money in the securities markets.

In 1998, Citibank inked a merger with the Travelers Insurance group. The deal was illegal under Glass-Steagall, but with Rubin’s help, the law was repealed in 1999, and the Citi-Travelers merger approved, creating too-big-to-fail behemoth Citigroup.

That same year, Rubin left the government to work for Citi, where he made $120 million as the company piled up risk after crazy risk. In 2008, the company collapsed spectacularly, necessitating a $45 billion direct government bailout, and hundreds of billions more in other government guarantees.

Yeah, you progressives sure fight the good fight!

That is probably the most rational explanation of l4l’s posts that I’ve seen. It’s posts generally are hardly even close to the topic at hand, pulling a lib talking point from a hat is probably the closest one can come to an explanation.

Yea I know that Gleen may tell everyone that allowing the banks to fail and the economy run its won course without a stimulus would have been a brilliant course of action. But anyone with financial literacy and an understanding of economic history knows where that path has led other modern economies over the past few decades.

The banks had to be saved but should have been forced to pay up or broken up into smaller companies that were no longer too big to fail.

Quit parroting Time magazine. The bailout “had” to be done in order to preserve the same corrupt abortion of a system we have now, and professional government democrat pigs benefited more than anyone. Letting these banks fail would have been the true correction this existing phony free-market system requires. The fact is you know that the government parasites would have been the ones to suffer, while the normal contributors to the GDP would have survived but with some discomfort. That is the true reason your ilk spouts this myth.

Next you will be vomiting up the claim that GM had to be bailed out, and that it was not actually a union pig payoff.

Good question. For the reasons you state (optics) the dems had the colors changed around 1992 I believe.

Strictly a TV deal. Before 1996 the networks used to flip back and forth every four years. You can look at old CNN election maps and see what now looks like reversed colors. Around 1996 they decided to freeze the colors.

Red always seemed to be more appropriate for the democratics though. It is the color of international socialism.

This isn’t the first time Ratigan’s been pretty frank in his descriptions of events. May have a sensible liberal to check out every now and then.
