Quotes of the day

posted at 11:00 pm on March 12, 2012 by Allahpundit

“After reading and further researching, we were amazed that Fonda, Steinem and Morgan failed to condemn Maher for his hate speech against conservative and liberal women alike. In their piece, they write that their call to action ‘isn’t political.’ Giving them the benefit of doubt, we thought, they were perhaps unaware of Maher’s history of misogyny. But we were wrong.

“Not only have these women not condemned Maher’s vile and violent language, they’ve legitimized it. Both Fonda and Steinem have been guests on Maher’s show, both failing to call him to task for his actions. Sadly, they are not alone…

“While we respect all women who stand up for their beliefs, we reject the hypocrisy that these ‘feminist icons’ try to slip past us. When will they put principle over politics and have the courage to condemn Maher’s misogyny? We applaud Wasserman Schultz for rejecting this sort of language as not ‘funny.’ We agree with President Obama that remarks such as these have ‘no place in the public discourse.’ We ask others including Sen. Chuck Schumer and Obama super PAC co-founder Bill Burton to reject Maher’s donation of $1 million to support the president’s re-election.”

***

“No longer is it good enough to disagree with conservatives. They must be fired from their jobs, separated from their advertisers, booted from the airwaves, buried under a prehistoric rock. The tactics attributed to Joe McCarthy tied to the polemical rigor associated with Jenny McCarthy…

“There are also honorable exceptions to the liberal purges. ‘As we all know, Limbaugh’s First Amendment rights aren’t involved here — freedom of speech means freedom from interference by the government,’ writes the veteran columnist Michael Kinsley, referring only to the boycotts. ‘But the spirit of the First Amendment, which is that suppressing speech is bad, still applies.’

“Networks can hire who they want. Advertisers can spend their money as they choose. But there is something unsavory about these organized boycotts and politically motivated pressure tactics. There is something much worse about the government deciding which speech is in the public interest.”

***

“The three then exhibit a staggering lack of self-awareness by claiming that Rush Limbaugh seeks to ‘dehumanize’ people. Um. Did Gloria Steinem forget that she called housewives ‘dependent creatures who are still children’ and ‘parasites’? That is the Left’s standard operating procedure. That is what they do, always, and especially with regard to women. This has been proven over and over again and only the willfully ignorant can’t see it. This is followed by the pièce de résistance of the op-ed — they equate Rush with Josef Goebbels. No, for reals. While fascistically demanding that The State’s FCC shut down Rush Limbaugh. While seeking to silence those with whom they disagree – using hysterical lies and propagandist rhetoric – they Godwin themselves with Goebbels. Irony is lost on these geniuses.

“They ended with the most hilarious line of all when they claimed ‘this is not political’. Of course it is. Everything they do is political. Perhaps Robin Morgan forgot that she said ‘I feel that ‘man-hating’ is an honorable and viable political act, that the oppressed have a right to class-hatred against the class that is oppressing them.’ She also said ‘Kill your fathers, not your mothers’ – yeah, no ‘issues’ there. And Feminism itself is not about women at all; it’s about serving a political ideology and agenda always. What they fail to realize, being too busy beclowning themselves constantly, is that they are subjugators of women. They are being used – willingly, no less – to help oppress and infantilize women, making them subservient to The State and Big Daddy Government.”

***

“The liberal instinct to attack conservative voices on the radio rather than promote liberal alternatives mirrors the left’s approach to the economy in general. The president of the United States and his apologists insist on raising taxes for the rich as a top priority without explaining how those additional burdens on the most productive are supposed to help the poor and the working class in their struggles. Since Obama acceded to the nation’s highest office, the percentage of Americans in dire poverty has sharply increased, and the unemployment rate for blacks remains stuck at 14.1 percent – nearly twice that for whites (7.3 percent). Democrats make no real attempt to show that raising tax rates on the prosperous will change this situation for the better (especially since higher rates generally produce more tax avoidance, not more revenue), but they do suggest that punishing the rich might at least make the downtrodden feel less oppressed.

“The logic seems to suggest that since we’re suffering at the moment then at least we can make you suffer too; we may not be able to help the poor but we can certainly hurt the rich.

“This reflects the similarly resentful attitude toward powerful voices in radio. There, the left argues that since we can’t get our own messages out to millions of enthusiastic fans, then the least we can do is to stop Limbaugh and colleagues from imparting their dangerous messages to an immense and eager audience. At this point, the critics of the conservative talk medium seem far more concerned with shutting up right-wing voices than with raising left-wing voices as a constructive alternative.”

***

“Rather than swallow their ideological pride for a moment, too many liberals, including more than a few leading feminists, have dug in like the Vatican and refused to acknowledge that their side too can be wrong or unfair. Or, as in the case of Maher, who just gave $1 million to a super PAC backing President Obama, as boorish as Limbaugh…

“We in the mainstream media too rarely point out that double standard, but Allred’s retro-hypocrisy – which is about the First Amendment — is too hard to ignore. The obscure Florida defamation code she wants prosecutors to use on Limbaugh is one of those musty statutes that sit forgotten in every state’s penal attic. But to demand in the year 2012 that we criminally prosecute anyone for this kind of speech is disturbing, especially so to correspondents like me who have been chronicling the recent comeback of criminal defamation laws in Latin America. Limbaugh apologized for slandering Fluke; now Allred should apologize for promoting the legal philosophy of Hugo Chávez.”

Technically, he’s right about the first part. But there’s many dangers associated with posting anything on the internet. You need to understand those dangers before you pick up a keyboard. FB practically begs you to take necessary steps for privacy.
That being said, no one here among us right thinkers would think of going to an actual page and posting something.
Excepting, of course, the trolls when it comes to us.
Someone here, a troll, posted very derogatory things on several of the ladies’ pages. But, thanks to Dark Current, he reaped what he had sown.

Liberals begin each morning with a lie, they actually convince themselves that liberal-ism has any validity or foundation in this country, at all.

After that their honesty, character and morals, goes downhill.

Very very few liberals have even the slightest notion of how or the ability to be honest brokers and then only in any part that doesn’t shed sunlight on the fallacy of collectivism.

Self awareness is only a part time option, whereas Conservatives constantly check themselves for accuracy.

Does anybody know anything about Nassim Nicholas Taleb? I’m reading a 2007 book of his, The Black Swan: The impact of the Highly Improbable.
.
It’s premise is that we are held back by the things we know, not the things we don’t know. Interesting, in that he held the UMass-Amherst Dean’s Professor in the Sciences of Uncertainty. What a concept!

ExpressoBold on March 12, 2012 at 11:29 PM

May I suggest you peruse a few of these? As an example, the market crash of 2008 was a Black Swan event.Similarly, the collapse of the RE market via price collapse is a Black Swan. Taleb suggests that all of these are predictable because they’ve happened before in history and are the product of a Keynesian economic model that was irrationally exuberant.

While seeking to silence those with whom they disagree – using hysterical lies and propagandist rhetoric – they Godwin themselves with Goebbels. Irony is lost on these geniuses.

Conservative now really just defines what American used to be. The battle is not between conservatives and liberals, it is between Americans and those who are not. Call “those who are not” whatever you want to. Communists, Fascists, liberals, Statests, Progressives, Democrats. It makes no difference. They are not America.

“There are also honorable exceptions to the liberal purges…

I don’t know what the honorable exceptions are.. but “purges” is the word of the day. That pretty much defines what and where they want to go. And if they would be successful at purging the media of all the American voices… they will not be satisfied.

The thing that really concerns me.. and there are so many things today… is the state of our youth. My son tells me that so many young people he talks to hate America, hate capitalism and are ripe for a socialist revolution. They have no knowledge of history and think the government owes them. America is in a very sad state. It’s not hopeless, but this next election is the last chance for us and if the best the GOP can do is nominate a RINO who has no love for our freedoms and is embarrassed to talk about anything other than jobs it’s going to be a fail.

JellyToast on March 13, 2012 at 6:46 AM

“The liberal instinct to attack conservative voices on the radio rather than promote liberal alternatives mirrors the left’s approach to the economy in general

Of course this assumes that liberals intend to provide an alternate form of dmeocrativ government when they don’t. Every breathe in their stinkin bodies says to work together with other stinking bodies to destroy the very system that serves as an embarassment to their Marixism.

The not so secret truth is that they have no intentions of providing anything other than free candy from their dirty old men -in the form of nice unearned checks, abortions, sexual depravation and addiction of every type, guilt-free victim sloth, eco-worship sans conscience, payoffs to unions, artists(ugh) and all who have been sun off ftom main-stream America’s once envious melting pot -all for one thing only -votes. After they gain power (this election ought to seal it permenantly) they’ll dump these groups in a split second and usher in the new czar controlled religion free state. Fiscal cons will be broke and the social cons will cry we told you so.

Agreed that The Five is a waste of Gutfeld’s considerable talent.

There’s nothing like quite like the bloated, boring crank of Bob Beckel’s sour disposition to convert Gutfeld’s quick wit and sharp humor into efforts wasted.

I’m sure Gutfeld talking to Beckel must often feel a bit like Antonin Scalia trying to explain something deep to Alan Colmes wearily realizing that there’s more rock in Colmes’ head than Barbara Boxer’s or Harry Reid’s.

Imagine if this report had been released while Bush was president.

In 2010, nearly one-quarter (23.3%) of black families lived in poverty, three times the rate of white families (7.1%).2 Black families also experience homelessness at much higher rates. In 2010, one out of every 141 persons in black families stayed in a homeless shelter, a rate seven times higher when compared with persons in white families (one in 990).

Hope and change?

DHChron on March 13, 2012 at 8:57 AM

Rush brought this sh!tstorm on himself, and being the Republican radio spokesman he is, on the Republican Party in general.

Rush Limbaugh did not NEED to say what he did. He chose to, however.

He’s a big boy and can take his own licks for his own biases.

Were his quotes regarding women to be cataloged, those complimentary to women would be a deserted isle in the midst of his Feminazi Sea.

Yes, as an American, for now at least, Limbaugh can say what he wants.

But there are limits on what a gentleman or cultivated person says of others, particularly on global air, especially when recognized as the unofficial recognized spokesman for the Republican Party at large.

A lot of people quit listening to Rush already. It isn’t as if those people “hate” Rush; they just got their fill of him. It isn’t as if Rush has anything new to say, never anything news breaking, always days after the fact before he gets around to hearing about something. Rush’s talent is in listening to what he hears from the crowd and then playing cheerleader accordingly, leading from behind.

Were Mark Steyn given a regular radio show, I’d tune in. It was disheartening when Fred Thompson stopped his radio show, full of great interviews and news analysis. The hosts Rush, Hannity and even Savage don’t interview well. Savage is too curt. Rush and Hannity are too mentally challenged.

Why are leftists so keen on trying to steal money from people through taxation?

They believe that human beings are equal. I don’t mean equal in terms of their status as free citizens, or equal before the law, but equal in their natural endowments. This is the unspoken and unexamined assumption that leads on to so many wrong conclusions.

Bill Gates is spectacularly intelligent and ambitious. Were he an average individual, or merely somewhat bright, Microsoft would not exist. Steve Jobs’ contributions to the formation of Apple, not to mention its near-resurrection in the late 90′s, are also the direct result of his talent and vision. There are countless other examples, both great and small, of how the talent and drive of a single individual, or of a small group of people, created not only vast wealth, but contributed the the creation of the modern world. The fruits of modern technology do not merely fall from the sky and land at our feet. They were purposefully created.

Ordinary people can’t do what they do. I can’t, and some people consider me to be a pretty bright guy.

Conservatives and Libertarians tend to admire someone like Gates or Jobs. Leftists resent them. Leftists see any situation where some people do better than others as suspect. They see situations where some people genuinely succeed and others truly fail as a problem to be solved. They seek to believe that losers lose because winners win. They dream up entire ideologies that cast those who fail as the victims of those who succeed. They seek to tear down and destroy those who win. Hence their bloodthirst for punitive taxation.

Life is a competitive sport. Winners win, losers lose, and the mediocre muddle through.

There is no way to re-shuffle the deck or tilt the playing field such that those of lesser ability and ambition will play as well as those with greater talent and thirst for achievement. Attempts to do so merely complicate the game and make it more difficult, creating cases of failure where success might otherwise exist.

There is no way to fashion an society of equal prosperity and happiness from a pool of individuals who are fundamentally unequal. Yet if you look at the things that leftists say and do, this is precisely the square peg they keep trying to force into a round hole.
