Oh my: Obama’s approval rating hits new low in CBS poll

posted at 8:55 pm on March 12, 2012 by Allahpundit

Second look at the “war on women”?

Just 41 percent of Americans approve of the job Mr. Obama is doing as president, according to the poll, conducted from March 7 to 11. Another 47 percent disapprove of his performance, up from 41 percent last month.

Mr. Obama’s approval rating was 50 percent last month.

The average U.S. price of a gallon of gasoline has jumped 12 cents over the past two weeks. The poll found that most Americans, 54 percent, believe gas prices are something a president can do a lot about…

Mr. Obama’s job rating on the economy remains about the same as it was last month – 39 percent approve, while 54 percent disapprove.

The bad news? Even with his job approval headed down the toilet, O still leads all four GOP candidates head to head. The good news? If CBS is right about gas prices weighing down his ratings, and they probably are, then The One’s hand might be forced on approving the Keystone pipeline if prices don’t start to ease soon. Go read John McCormack’s post at the Standard, too, arguing that the contraception fight isn’t hurting the GOP as much as the conventional wisdom would have you believe. Hard to say if these numbers bear that out. Obama leads all Republicans among women by double digits even as his overall numbers crumble — but then there’s this:

When you ask people, “Should religious employers be required to cover contraception?”, 61 percent will tell you yes. When you add the magic words “opt out,” you get the data set you see above. Makes me wonder how closely most voters are following the contraception debate in the first place. If slight tweaks in wording can turn the numbers upside down, the public’s probably not paying close attention, which may mean there’s fertile ground for Democratic “war on women” demagoguery. That moronic “permission slip” on Obama’s Tumblr account was no accident.

Oh, almost forgot: Another trillion-dollar deficit this year. Probably no poll damage to him from that, though. Yawn.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo would be my guess.

[Right Mover on March 12, 2012 at 10:16 PM]

Are your referring to the future Andrew ‘I presided over the bankruptcy and default of New York State’ Cuomo?

Dusty on March 12, 2012 at 10:22 PM

His first year in office he positioned himself as a budget-cutting centrist. Surely that’s what he’ll be depicted as — a fiscal “moderate” Democrat who can bring both parties together — in 2016. Plus, he’s got the pedigree and the forceful oratory undulations (he always shouts) that the libs will fall for as authoritarian.

Right Mover on March 12, 2012 at 10:34 PM

One of the main reasons Obama’s poll numbers are dropping so fast is because the public blames him for the rising gas pump prices. Obama stated that he wants energy costs to “skyrocket” so he just getting what he wants, gas prices are skyrocketing.

I too believe 0bama and Steven Chu are pleased as punch to see gas prices rise.

But 0bama is not so politically clueless as to state that fact out loud, so Barry is stuck in a trap of his, and the Democratic Party’s, own making.

From 2000 to 2008, the left and their lapdogs in the MSM worked overtime to convince everyone that the President can set gas prices at his whim from the Oval Office.

Having pounded that simplistic lesson home, the Democrats and MSM now have to undo eight years of conditioning. I am taking great pleasure in watching Barry get tangled in the snare he himself set with his “blame Bush” mantra of 2008.

In an interview in 2010, the ex-president of Shell oil predicted $5 a gallon gas by 2012.

Does anyone remember what Obama said when gas prices shot well over $4 a gallon in 2008?

Then candidate Obama said he did not have a problem with gas being $4 a gallon or more.

His problem was the sudden, sharp rise of the price. In other words, if the price gradually went up, he would not have a problem with it.

Gas prices were around $1.60 a gallon when George Bush left office. Bush, by lifting the executive order on off shore drilling, had poked a hole in the speculative bubble that had pushed oil prices to $145 a barrel.

Bush did that in July and by December, oil prices had fallen to $30 a barrel.

One of Obama’s first acts was to put the off shore-drilling ban back in effect.

Since then, Obama has done everything in his power to drive oil prices back up.

He, and his regime, have put a drilling moratorium in effect in the gulf and made it impossible to get new drilling permits in areas where the moratorium is not in effect.

Under the narcissist in chief, the United States gave loan guarantees worth billions to Brazil so it could exploit oil fields off its shores.

Amazingly enough, shortly before the US gave those loan guarantees, George Soros invested in the company that is doing the off shore drilling. Surely that is just a coincidence.

While the ban on off shore drilling is in place in America, the drilling rigs and American workers have to do something.

The drilling rigs, idled in America are now going to Brazil and other places to drill.

The Americans are collecting unemployment.

Follow the money, no truer words were ever spoken. With record numbers of people quitting smoking our politicians figured raise the price of tobacco. Can you imagine a carton of cigs near forty dollars? With the BS programs of government the need to pay for them is a covert operation disguised as a need for the betterment of the public. Cuomo was taught by his Dad on how to cut programs and start others to take their place. Where is the largest National Park in the USA? Right here in NYS thanks to Cuomo senior so the State would qualify for the Federal money of a National Park. The bureaucracy that created dwarfs many State programs. The EPA forbids dumping snow into the Oswego River so they scoop it up and truck the snow to a dumping site claiming it’s because of the salt used on the streets. The NYS Thruway uses 180,000 tons of rock salt a year and the grass mowing continues throughout the summer. Follow the money. Cuomo Jr. has devastated the medical community here but that’s just a continuing story of my rant.

This is the most vindictive admin that I can remember:

HHS: When It Reigns, It Poors

Last Friday, the Obama administration proved that it’s more than capable of cutting funds–in retaliation. As payback for Texas severing ties with Planned Parenthood, HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius promised to take out her anger on the state’s low-income women. Starting this May, the government will phase out more than $30 million in health coverage for the most underprivileged people in the state–all because Texas wanted its citizens to have the benefit of unbiased care. The Obama administration decided to kill the funding for cancer, STD, and breast screenings because Gov. Rick Perry (R) dared to look beyond Planned Parenthood to providers who aren’t under congressional investigation.

Now, Gov. Perry is left to scrounge through his budget to fill the 90% program void created by the administration’s ideological blackmail. I was in a meeting with the Governor this weekend where he said he wouldn’t allow the poor of Texas to be held hostage by HHS. Earlier, he vowed to fund the program: “We’ll find the money,” Gov. Perry said.

But under federal law, he shouldn’t have to. Washington has always left it up to state leaders to decide who is and isn’t eligible for Medicaid funding. In this case, there are more than 4,000 providers in Texas who are ready to step in and provide the abortion-neutral services women need. “Why would the Obama administration take away access to hearth care for low-income Texas women? Because this administration puts funding for abortion providers… ahead of funding for women’s cancer screenings and other preventative health care… To me, this reflects a twisted set of values, not to mention a continued disregard for the basic concept of states’ rights,” Gov. Perry wrote in an op-ed. “If this debate were really about health care, the Obama administration would allow the Texas Women’s Health Program to continue.”

Unfortunately, this kind of ideological blackmail is becoming standard practice in this White House. We are witnessing this “conform or else” mentality across the President’s health care policy–whether it’s in the contraception mandate or meddling in state programs. Texas, meanwhile, says it will find a way to keep the Women’s Health Program operating until either Washington resolves the issue or the courts do. At least three lawsuits are already working their way through the system, challenging the President’s right to hold the funding ransom until leaders abide by his criteria.

Until they iron out those fundamental questions, Gov. Perry has an even stronger case for booting Planned Parenthood from its network now that it’s been accused of 87,075 cases of Medicaid fraud in Texas. Abby Johnson, the former Planned Parenthood clinic manager-turned-pro-life activist, is teaming up with Alliance Defense Fund to expose the group’s multi-million dollar scam, in which it allegedly billed the federal government for thousands of services it never provided. Extortion seems to be a recurring theme for the organization, which has faced similar charges in California, New York, and Washington.

Still, President Obama is sticking by the abortion giant. This is a man who threatened to shut down the entire government if a penny of federal funding was cut from the group. Now he’s willing to risk the health of 130,000 low-income women until Planned Parenthood gets its share. So when liberals say there is a “war on women,” they’re right. It’s being waged by President Obama.
