Video: Obama speaks at Harvard protest in 1990

posted at 8:20 pm on March 7, 2012 by Allahpundit

A snippet to whet your appetite for the big reveal on “Hannity” tonight by Breitbart.com team members Joel Pollak and Ben Shapiro. (Steve Bannon promised last week that they’d start rolling out what they have on Obama within 7-10 days and was true to his word.) Writes Pollak of this clip, released earlier this afternoon by BuzzFeed:

Earlier today, Buzzfeed’s Ben Smith announced on Twitter that video researcher Andrew Kaczynski had released “the mysterious Harvard/Obama/race video that the Breitbart folks have been talking about.”

The video, which Kaczynski says was “licensed from a Boston television station,” shows a young Barack Obama leading a protest at Harvard Law School on behalf of Prof. Derrick Bell, a radical academic tied to Jeremiah Wright–about whom we will be releasing significant information in the coming hours.

However, the video has been selectively edited–either by the Boston television station or by Buzzfeed itself. Over the course of the day, Breitbart.com will be releasing additional footage that has been hidden by Obama’s allies in the mainstream media and academia.

Smith initially tweeted that Kaczysnki “may” have found the long-promised Breitbart vid but then others corrected him and he retweeted the corrections. The BuzzFeed footage actually isn’t even new: After they posted it this morning, Frontline put up a post of its own reminding everyone that it first aired in PBS’s documentary “The Choice 2008.” You’ll find the clip of that below; the Obama speech comes at 6:30. According to Frontline:

While BuzzFeed did not publish all of the available footage of the event — a manager here noted that they were paying for each second of footage — they did post the entirety of what was available of Obama’s speech. While other cameras could have shot additional material from the event, no other footage of the event exists at WGBH.

And while there does appear to be editing in the footage available, that was almost certainly done in 1990. The Ten O’Clock News practice was to store completed segments as aired along with any relevant additional footage that might be useful in the future.

Some commenters in Headlines wondered whether BuzzFeed might have excised the more inflammatory parts of Obama’s speech. If you believe the above, they didn’t. And even if they had the footage, what would be gained by editing it out when they have every reason to believe the Breitbart team has it and is ready to unveil it? It’s going to come out anyway, in one of the biggest conservative forums in American media; under those circumstances, if you’re a lefty looking to help Obama on this, your best move is simply to release what you’ve got before the “Big” sites and Hannity do and spin it as hard as you can to frame the debate to O’s advantage. As it is, the brief BuzzFeed clip inadvertently operates as a teaser trailer for Pollak’s and Shapiro’s appearance tonight: Now I’m really interested to see what else they might have. And if they do end up producing something interesting, BuzzFeed and the rest of the media will be left to explain why they didn’t discover it first. Which is to say, I don’t see how BF benefits from posting a redacted clip except for the brief blip of traffic they’re getting by piggybacking on the “Big” sites’ big reveal. They must have published what they have, and this is it.

Anyway. Here’s your “Hannity” thread plus some background on the Harvard protest from Jake Tapper.

Watch Obama Speaks at Harvard Law in ’90 on PBS. See more from FRONTLINE.

The Obamabots won’t care, won’t even pay attention. They’ve been brainwashed to automatically reject anything from Breitbart or Hannity.

This is what it all boils down to. ObamaBots do not care about Obama’s lies, power grabs, and graft.

Barack Obama could spend his Sunday afternoon kiIIing puppies with a hammer, rounding up kittens and drowning them, giving BILLIONS of tax dollars to his buddies Solar companies, chatting on the phone with Mr and Mrs Terrorist Ayers, hanging around with violent communists, blah blah blah.

It could be all caught on video and the ObamaBots would NEVER leave his side. The thought that this man is NOT what he sold himself as in 2008 doesn’t matter one bit. They think that if they support this man that their support will turn into truckloads of Obama money being redistributed to them.

The right could reanimate George Washington and they still would stay with Obama.

Syzygy on March 7, 2012 at 9:33 PM

Yeah, the video is a dud in terms of being a shocking blockbuster, but the “Obama is a radical and is bad for America” narrative is just getting started. Only 30% of Americans, according to Rasmussen, think the country is moving in the right direction, and that’s a decline from 2 weeks ago, which was a decline from three weeks ago. And the dual hits of Breitbart’s sudden death and the Limbaugh attack have energized the conservative right in terms of its commitment to “vet” Obama this time around. Going forward, the narrative will continue to be “And here’s something else the media hid from you…and here’s something else the media hid from you…and here’s something else the media hid from you.” Even today, everyone is talking about the LA Times secret video tape. The cumulative effect of that will be a continued erosion in the public’s confidence in Barack Obama’s leadership and commitment to turning the country around. He isn’t the American president, he is the American fringe left’s president. Voters are going to figure that out this time around.

Rational Thought on March 7, 2012 at 9:33 PM

I think brietbat will save the best for October. I bet you they have the khalidi tape that will have Obama say that Israel should not exist and he stands with his Muslim brothers. That would be the end. I think I am right

Boomer_Sooner on March 7, 2012 at 9:02 PM

Well… Like I said. What HE’S saying is nothing that Americans weren’t entirely innoculated to in the 90′s. Diversity. The new age mantra.

And nobody has ever heard of Bell before today, they aren’t gonna care about two guys on Hannity. To learn about him and form a judgement would require doing some research. Something most people don’t often do on the own volition without really caring about a topic.

Let’s hope, for Breitbart’s memory’s sake, that any other videos he has are better otherwise this is a b-movie letdown production. This isn’t going out swinging. It’s going out going, “But… But… But…”, if there isn’t anything better than this.

Their story big release got crashed, Obama says nothing Americans haven’t heard a hundred thousand times, and Derrick Bell matters to nobody and has nothing to do with anything going on now.

Sad.

Very true. Mormons believed that blacks were cursed till the Federal government threatened to take away tax free status for their bigoted ways

liberal4life on March 7, 2012 at 9:21 PM

And, guess what was legal 2 years before that?

Up until 1976, it was still legal to assassinate Mormons — innocent men, women, and children. You see, back in 1838, the Governor of Missouri, a racist, bigoted Democrat, but I repeat myself, signed Missouri Executive Order 44, which made it legal for anyone to exterminate Mormons. In fact, Mormons have been the only Americans that have been the subjects of a legal extermination order. There’s been a lot of outrage — correctly so — about the internment of Japanese-Americans during World War II by FDR, another bigoted, racist Democrat, but I have never heard much squawking about what Americans did to Mormons.

It was Republican Governor Kit Bond, who rescinded the Order.

[I'm an atheist so please don't start bombarding me with the religious emails. I don't know anything about "magic underwear."]

Now, perhaps, you would like to meet Mia Love, who is running for Congress in Utah. She’s a Mormon. Evidently, she didn’t get the memo about how she is supposed to hate the Mormon Church because she’s black.

Dunham was so impressed by Evie’s beef steak and fried rice that she offered her a job in the family home. It didn’t take long before Evie also was 8-year-old Barry’s caretaker, playing with him and bringing him to and from school.

Neighbors recalled that they often saw Evie leave the house in the evening fully made up and dressed in drag. But she says it’s doubtful Barry ever knew.

“He was so young,” says Evie. “And I never let him see me wearing women’s clothes. But he did see me trying on his mother’s lipstick, sometimes. That used to really crack him up.”

Two words about the exclusive Breitbart video:

“That’s it?”

Complete letdown. The left doesn’t care about who Obama associated with. They don’t care about terrorists or radicals. They only care about destroying anyone and everyone on the right. This is as useful as bringing up Jeremiah Wright or Bill Ayers again.

THE MEDIA DOESN’T CARE, nor does a majority of America. Sad yes, but this is such a letdown. Why couldn’t it be Obama quoting radical policies? Why couldn’t it be him making racist statements? All this is is an arrogant black college student supporting an arrogant black professor. What was he supposed to do as a black leader on a racially non-diverse campus?

I was hoping for something useful… this Hannity coverage just makes the right look stupid, imho.

As I said this is just the first drip. Why don’t we hold judgement until Breitbart’s team has done what Andrew wanted them to do – on his time schedule?

Flora Duh on March 7, 2012 at 9:46 PM

First salvo..:)

idesign on March 7, 2012 at 9:38 PM

If it was….

“D 4″

“Miss”

I wasn’t expecting a “He sunk my battleship!” But at least a “hit” would have been nice.

Anyone else here old enough to remember “quidam” on Free Republic back in the 90s?

notropis on March 7, 2012 at 9:46 PM

This is a nothing burger I won’t even watch mayonnaise or ketchup with this burger, let alone cheese. It stinks to high heaven. Smells of desperation in its finest

liberal4life on March 7, 2012 at 9:38 PM

We know you don’t think the tapes will amount to much. Why do you keep saying it over and over? Trying to convince yourself?

CW on March 7, 2012 at 9:46 PM

This is weak sauce considering the buildup it got. It won’t move the needle one bit this fall. I think most people have accepted the notion Obama was a radical back in the day, it’s already baked into the cake. Hillary and Bill were hippie radicals too yet lots of people still love them, go figure.

echosyst on March 7, 2012 at 9:47 PM

Hey! How’s the job hunt? Contributing to society yet?

KeninCT on March 7, 2012 at 9:41 PM

Glad you showed up. We were discussing getting you some action with liberal4life. You up for it?

arnold ziffel on March 7, 2012 at 9:45 PM

The only “action” those two will ever get are “left” and “right.”

viking01 on March 7, 2012 at 9:47 PM

Going forward, the narrative will continue to be “And here’s something else the media hid from you…and here’s something else the media hid from you…and here’s something else the media hid from you.” Even today, everyone is talking about the LA Times secret video tape. The cumulative effect of that will be a continued erosion in the public’s confidence in Barack Obama’s leadership and commitment to turning the country around. He isn’t the American president, he is the American fringe left’s president. Voters are going to figure that out this time around.

Rational Thought on March 7, 2012 at 9:33 PM

I agree with you RM, but I don’t have faith that enough Americans will give a crap. Look at unemployment, gas prices, price of groceries, rising Middle East tension, Gun Runner, corrupt appointees, tax dodgers… and much of America is still apathetic and willfully uninformed. HotAir regulars like us are the exception to the rule, we are at the tail ends of the political interest bell curve. The big hump cares more about the Oscars or Snooky or American Idol.

We also have to factor in potential voter fraud, union corruption around voting processes and the campaigner in chief that owns the media lock, stock and barrel (oh wait, is that too violent of a reference?). We need a miracle people, we need to pray that enough Americans wake up and vote. This Harvard video is a big bag of nothing. Hell, Obama has appointed people more radical and nobody cares!

I’ll bet she was.

(Sorry, couldn’t resist.)

echosyst on March 7, 2012 at 9:47 PM

The vast majority of those people believe the wonderful economy we enjoyed back then was the direct result of Bill.

Somehow, I don’t think anyone of even moderate importance is gonna equate ‘good economy’ and obama.

This isn’t even “radical.” A fight over tenure at an elite university? The idea that elite institutions might have inherent prejudices after 300 years of thinking themselves perfect? The idea that there is inherent value ion diversity?

Liberal, yes. Radical, no freaking way.

urban elitist on March 7, 2012 at 9:51 PM

Oh I’m sick of it. Last election it was promised there would be a video or audio of Michelle Obama saying “whitey”.

Beat him on his record and quit being the Drama Queen, Hannity.

Good luck!

Lanceman on March 7, 2012 at 9:50 PM

Many of my liberal friends happily point to the stock market as their sole economic indicator. They are truly clueless, but they still get to vote.

At this point those that still passionately support Obama are doing based on pure emotion, not logic. The more we point out, the more they defend him. Today’s Obama supporters are like beaten housewives defending their man when the police arrive to answer her 911 call. Sad, but true.

TheLoudTalker on March 7, 2012 at 9:52 PM

Totally disappointing… I hope Breitbart had more videos

1984 in real life on March 7, 2012 at 9:34 PM

They do. This process will be played out between now and the election. Breitbart had been working on it for months and a few other names had been doing their own things. All of it was to come together. That was the plan and Andrew’s death will not change it.

It was easy to for some voters to give Obama the benefit of the doubt in 2008. “Hope and change” is such a lofty, subjective, undefined term. I remember listening to people, who had heard the same exact speech, say, “Obama is such a traditional man. He will fight to uphold traditional marriage” and “Obama believes in equality. He will fight so that there is marriage equality.” People heard what they wanted to hear and he rarely said anything definitive.

This time around, Obama has a record. This time, he has to answer the question, “If the Economy Is Improving….”. This time, people will have known what life under Obama is like.

He won 54% of the independent vote last time. I haven’t seen him in the 40s for more than a couple of days in a row in a year.

This year, the election will be a referendum on Obama. Elections with incumbents always are.

Resist We Much on March 7, 2012 at 9:53 PM

Every serious American who doesn’t have a irrational dislike for Israel sees Obama’s behavior as petty.

tetriskid on March 7, 2012 at 9:37 PM

By all means, please tell me what part of this speech to AIPAC is “petty” and shows his “dislike” for Israel: http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0312/73588.html

I’ll wait

DBear on March 7, 2012 at 9:53 PM

If this is the first strike in a plan to drag the media kicking & screaming it was a failure.

The first strike needed to be strong enough to at least demand a reaction/demonization from the media. There wasn’t enough ‘there’ there with this clip to even necessitate a response.

We miss you Breitbart.
