Video: Obama speaks at Harvard protest in 1990

posted at 8:20 pm on March 7, 2012 by Allahpundit

A snippet to whet your appetite for the big reveal on “Hannity” tonight by Breitbart.com team members Joel Pollak and Ben Shapiro. (Steve Bannon promised last week that they’d start rolling out what they have on Obama within 7-10 days and was true to his word.) Writes Pollak of this clip, released earlier this afternoon by BuzzFeed:

Earlier today, Buzzfeed’s Ben Smith announced on Twitter that video researcher Andrew Kaczynski had released “the mysterious Harvard/Obama/race video that the Breitbart folks have been talking about.”

The video, which Kaczynski says was “licensed from a Boston television station,” shows a young Barack Obama leading a protest at Harvard Law School on behalf of Prof. Derrick Bell, a radical academic tied to Jeremiah Wright–about whom we will be releasing significant information in the coming hours.

However, the video has been selectively edited–either by the Boston television station or by Buzzfeed itself. Over the course of the day, Breitbart.com will be releasing additional footage that has been hidden by Obama’s allies in the mainstream media and academia.

Smith initially tweeted that Kaczysnki “may” have found the long-promised Breitbart vid but then others corrected him and he retweeted the corrections. The BuzzFeed footage actually isn’t even new: After they posted it this morning, Frontline put up a post of its own reminding everyone that it first aired in PBS’s documentary “The Choice 2008.” You’ll find the clip of that below; the Obama speech comes at 6:30. According to Frontline:

While BuzzFeed did not publish all of the available footage of the event — a manager here noted that they were paying for each second of footage — they did post the entirety of what was available of Obama’s speech. While other cameras could have shot additional material from the event, no other footage of the event exists at WGBH.

And while there does appear to be editing in the footage available, that was almost certainly done in 1990. The Ten O’Clock News practice was to store completed segments as aired along with any relevant additional footage that might be useful in the future.

Some commenters in Headlines wondered whether BuzzFeed might have excised the more inflammatory parts of Obama’s speech. If you believe the above, they didn’t. And even if they had the footage, what would be gained by editing it out when they have every reason to believe the Breitbart team has it and is ready to unveil it? It’s going to come out anyway, in one of the biggest conservative forums in American media; under those circumstances, if you’re a lefty looking to help Obama on this, your best move is simply to release what you’ve got before the “Big” sites and Hannity do and spin it as hard as you can to frame the debate to O’s advantage. As it is, the brief BuzzFeed clip inadvertently operates as a teaser trailer for Pollak’s and Shapiro’s appearance tonight: Now I’m really interested to see what else they might have. And if they do end up producing something interesting, BuzzFeed and the rest of the media will be left to explain why they didn’t discover it first. Which is to say, I don’t see how BF benefits from posting a redacted clip except for the brief blip of traffic they’re getting by piggybacking on the “Big” sites’ big reveal. They must have published what they have, and this is it.

Anyway. Here’s your “Hannity” thread plus some background on the Harvard protest from Jake Tapper.

Who was Derrick Bell?

“Bell was credited with developing “critical race theory,” which suggested that the U.S. legal system was inherently biased against African Americans and other minorities because it was built on an ingrained white point of view. He argued in his many books and lectures that the life experiences of black people and other minorities should be considered in hiring decisions and in applying the law.

Bell maintained that the standards for promotion and tenure at law schools – and Harvard, in particular – were inherently discriminatory and excluded a broad group of minorities. By hiring only graduates of top-tier law schools who had clerked at the Supreme Court, he argued, academia was populated by a uniform a group of standard-issue professors, most of them white men.”

And why are we not surprised that he was a Farrakhan supporter?

“Some scholars, both black and white, challenged Bell’s ideas, as well as his strong support of Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan. Nonetheless, Bell remained one of the country’s most outspoken public intellectuals until his death.”

Author James Traub voiced this opinion in his 1993 piece on the professor:

“That’s Derek Bell’s bottom line: if it comforts whites, it’s bad; if it comforts blacks–i.e., Farrakhan–it’s good. Bell, along with Farrakhan and so many others, offers victimization as a consolation.”

A few of Professor Bell’s more notable quotes (all of them from his 1992 book Faces at the Bottom of the Well) on the subject of race include the following:

“Despite undeniable progress for many, no African Americans are insulated from incidents of racial discrimination. Our careers, even our lives, are threatened because of our color.”

“[T]he racism that made slavery feasible is far from dead . . . and the civil rights gains, so hard won, are being steadily eroded.”

“… few whites are ready to actively promote civil rights for blacks.”

“[D]iscrimination in the workplace is as vicious (if less obvious) than it was when employers posted signs ‘no negras need apply.’”

“We rise and fall less as a result of our efforts than in response to the needs of a white society that condemns all blacks to quasi citizenship as surely as it segregated our parents.”

“Slavery is, as an example of what white America has done, a constant reminder of what white America might do.”

“Tolerated in good times, despised when things go wrong, as a people we [blacks] are scapegoated and sacrificed as distraction or catalyst for compromise to facilitate resolution of political differences or relieve economic adversity.”

“Black people will never gain full equality in this country. Even those Herculean efforts we hail as successful will produce no more than ‘temporary peaks of progress,’ short lived victories that slide into irrelevance as racial patterns adapt in ways that maintain white dominance”—in the realization that “white self-interest will prevail over [B]lack rights.”

That’s who Obama was rallying for in this speech!

Unless these videos show a young Barack Obama taking orders from a Boris Badinoff-looking KGB contact in 1989, I simply can’t imagine much of an impact on the public. Most Americans already know Obama is slightly to the right of Che Guevara. The big problem, as I see it, is that too many are cool with it.

“Following the teachings of his mentor Robert L. Carter, Bell understood well that integration offered Blacks nothing but proclamations of equality without daring to question the white supremacist organization of society. While the Black bourgeois continue to market the suffering of poor, disenfranchised, brutalized and terrorized Black people as a means to gain visibility and compassion from white gatekeepers, Bell lived a life that demonstrated struggle amidst the permanence of white supremacy, not because he believed in a “mythical hope” in whites’ moral character, but because he saw Afrolantica and knew just as his hero Paul Robeson that Blacks could create a world here in America unseen by the tyrannical gaze of whites and unrecognizable to those who simply cannot “THINK BLACK.”

Derrick Bell endorsed a journal dedicated to the “abolition of whiteness,” called “Race Traitor,” whose motto is “Treason to the white race is loyalty to humanity.”

Louis Farrakhan warns of racial hatred that could lead to attempts to kill President Obama

Farrakhan drew a distinction between noble Jews and followers of “the synagogue of Satan,” and he pointed to a recent incident in which the publisher of a Jewish magazine suggested Israeli security forces could help preserve Israel by killing Obama. He attacked Israeli policies, while also directing criticism at perceived Jewish influence in the U.S.

“Jewish people were not the origin of Hollywood, but they took it over,” he said, blaming the entertainment industry for degrading the country’s morality.

While Farrakhan called out conservatives for questioning Obama’s citizenship and even criticizing the figure of first lady Michelle Obama, he also attacked the president for his support of efforts to remove Middle Eastern leaders and warned him against any potential military action in Iran. The crowd roared as he called on them to be “conscientious objectors” to any strike against Iran.

Hannity said there was no smoking gun. Apparently it is a narrative that builds as we find out about Obama. Patience.

Just from the still picture we can see that Obama has perfected his “chin in the air, holier than thou” mannerism.

From the first article on Monday we now know that Barrack Hussein Obama was attracted to Saul Alinsky’s method. He loved to hang out with Communists and the list on that playbill is compelling.

This goes on until Election Day. Do you have the focus to get it all?

Professor Bell did not think that Barack Obama’s election was any significant, watershed event signalling a post-racial, American society. To Professor Bell and his followers, racism is permanent. It can never end nor must the programmes that have been put in place to combat it ever be changed…except via a new government. Bell, a neo-Marxist, focused on race instead of class. He was also a strong supporter of Louis Farrakhan, who has called Hitler a “very great man” on several occasions. According to Bell, the black man could only triumph by crushing the white man. They cannot live side-by-side as equals.

PappyD61 on March 7, 2012 at 8:51 PM

Conservatives complaining this is a big ‘noting’ need to remember: Conservatives would ALREADY KNOW and be aware how radical Obama is.

Those aren’t the people being targeted by this roll out of the videos of Obama’s radical past.

No, the people being targeted are the ones who WERE RESPONSIBLE FOR PUTTING OBAMA IN THE WHITE HOUSE by pushing him over the 50% mark in 2008.

That’s right! INDEPENDENTS.

Independents are the target of this, not Conservatives or Democrats. Conservatives already know and so do most Democrats.

By releasing the videos this way and FORCING the MSM to cover it, think about what segment of the population is put in ‘play’ here:

MODERATES WHO WATCH THE MSM.

Correctomundo!!!!

In other words, people who the MSM would NEVER dream of showing this stuff to on their own. So Breitbart is [heh heh] ‘helping’ them get the story out.

As the MSM tries to spin [only one video! nothing to see here! He's not really radical!] they are going to end up getting PUBLICLY and REPEATEDLY tripped up by their own lies, just like they were in the ACORN videos.

Release one video, get their lies on the record, then release 2nd video; more lies, more spin, 3rd even more damaging video………..come on now, Breitbart has done this before. They know what they are doing.

Gonna be fun to watch.

petefrt on March 7, 2012 at 8:52 PM

Anyone think this video was released today to make sure that any actual Breitbart footage when released will be subject to the standard Clintonesque “that is sooo yesterday, we’ve more pressing issues to deal with” meme that served Billy and Hillary so well in the 90′s?

coldwarrior on March 7, 2012 at 8:39 PM

That is of course possible but they will also emphasize how the MSM was complicit in covering up any and all negative stories about Obama. The tape was withheld much like the rashid tape was. This could be the bigger story.

FLconservative on March 7, 2012 at 8:52 PM

This will only mean something if it’s Obama saying he endorses the view of this radical professor. If he’s just supporting giving a black professor tenure at Harvard, that didn’t in the 90s, and still really doesn’t, have black tenured professors. It’s a big nothingburger.

It is very tough for a Dem to attack a candidate like O.

Like a Hindu shooting a cow.

IlikedAUH2O on March 7, 2012 at 8:47 PM

Or an abortion doctor recommending adoption.

infidel4life on March 7, 2012 at 8:53 PM

Do any of you remember how Breitbart worked? Drip…drip…drip

Vera on March 7, 2012 at 8:44 PM

Exactly. Masters of leading along the Enemedia then when they think it’s over… hold on, there’s more. Just like James O’Keefe suckering ACORN’s clownish Bertha Harris to suggest isolated, limited scale corruption before showing nationwide well distributed corruption. Remember also James O’Keefe and Mary “no answer” Landrieu where the video evidence apparently was so overwhelming that Landrieu and her daddy Moon (also a judge) had to find a crony judge to destroy O’Keefe’s videotape evidence.

“… he’ll have more diverse professors.” — some Harvard genius

“diverse professors”? LOL. I guess a command of English wasn’t a requirement.

Harvard does more damage to society than good.

ThePrimordialOrderedPair on March 7, 2012 at 8:54 PM

noooo, you’ll never put your hands on that one! we’re keeping it, together with the whitey tape, at a supersecret location dug deep in the permafrost of the siberian tundra, guarded by angry protomarxist shamans that can take the shape of any creature and freak you the fck out if you get too close.

sesquipedalian on March 7, 2012 at 8:49 PM

“The Los Angeles Times did not publish the videotape because it was provided to us by a confidential source who did so on the condition that we not release it,” said the newspaper’s editor, Russ Stanton. “The Times keeps its promises to sources.”

You do realise that the LA Times has admitted that they have the tape in their possession, don’t you?

Someone with the big bucks like Trump should be offering millions for more videos of little Bammie. You just know that as narcissistic as this guy is, he ran towards every camera he saw. He makes Chuckie Schumer look shy.

There’s more out there, find it. Somewhere someone had to do a basic bio intro, like “where are you from”, etc.

Shapiro said Derrick Bell wrote that if aliens came to Earth and the USA, whites would sell all the blacks to them, and the Jews would stand by and do nothing.

Huh?!

Christien on March 7, 2012 at 8:36 PM

*shudder* I hope not. If we tried to make a trade like that, we’d be risking revenge a la “Independence Day”.

As for the Jews, they’ve got slightly more pressing issues…like surviving another year surrounded by head-chopping barbarians. Why would they give a rat’s arse one way or another?

MelonCollie on March 7, 2012 at 8:55 PM

How about Trump PAY Aunty Z and Uncle Omar to answer questions while attached to a LIE DETECTOR?

$10,000 for each truthful answer. They’d sing like a canary!
