McCain is a fool. Syria, while we own them a good beating, is not a problem in the stability of the area so it should be left alone as Lybia should have been left alone.

The McCainiac is an idiot. The people behind the Arab Spring stuff are islamists. They want to consolidate the Maghreb and the Levant under a new Caliphate. So far the Egyptian Field Marshals have held on, and Assad has held on. As long as they do, the consolidation is not possible. If Assad loses, and the Generals fall, then Katy bar the door. The problem will be felt on three continents and the danger level will be very high.

As much as I detest Assad, he needs to win. It kinda feels like rooting for Satan, but a post Assad Syria will be a real trouble spot, and I don’t see Iraq holding out either. McCain needs to shut up and go home before he gets us into more trouble.

It would be downright crazy to bomb Syria. Assad is a Baathist Saddam Hussein wannabe, but he has a much weaker army, much less land, and no oil, and the interest to the United States is…?

If Assad is inflaming his own people against him, the pro-Assad Syrian army will be preoccupied with maintaining order in Syria, and will have less resources available to occupy Lebanon and threaten Israel from the north. If we bombed Syria, the entire Syrian people would unite against the United States and Israel.

But if Assad’s army is tied up securing his own country, now might be a good time for Israel to chase Syrian forces out of southern Lebanon, especially those fond of lobbing missiles across the border and blowing up Israeli buses. But let Bibi make up his own mind on this–he doesn’t need the “wisdom” of SmartPower (TM).

There are different reasons for and against an American air-bombing campaign on Assad’s military in Syria.

The overriding one is this: you (Americans, others…) are sitting on top of all these machines, namely fighter jets and munition, with all these capabilities and infrastructure, and a lot of it is just sitting there in its hangar, with the analysts and mechanics and air control people and organizational/logistical people behind all of the Air Force, just sitting, or training, or whatever it is that militaries do whenever they’re not in an active war, where only 10 hours of flight-time away there are killing fields and war crimes being committed – for many months now actually.

So you’re sitting there with all these tools at your disposal to stop the killing of civilians, and you aren’t doing it.

I wonder what that feels like…

And one might wonder why the rest of the world thinks US foreign policy is a blunt instrument composed entirely of bombing. Whether Syria deserves it or not, even if Assad is lower than vermin. (He puts me in mind of a silverfish. I nearly gag whenever I see a pic of the chinless butcher.) Get thee a grip, McCain. Time to stop fretting about 'foreign capitals.' They DO NOT look to the US for leadership. They look to the US to do their dirty work. That might have been fine when we were a prosperous republic but we're not anymore and we can't afford it. It is not in the US best interest to point a thinned-out, demoralized military deeper into the Middle East. Especially when the Rooskis have as much as declared that they'd escalate if we do. There are factors working against modern institution-building and pluralistic democracy in that region. No amount of nation-building will let 21st century ideas get traction as long as Western leaders fail to acknowledge that the 7th century warrior death cult that has a vice grip on those cultures is not a 'religion of peace.' They never will do that. So support Israel to the hilt, and let the rest of those sewer countries rot. Senators. Pfft. Heaven deliver us from the smart people.

John McCain has always been better with his enemies/opponents from a distance. He also like standoff weapons. With them you don’t have to see the destruction up close and personal when you drop bombs and rockets.

Bomb the sh!t out of them. Carpet bomb them. Bomb them back to the stone age. Who cares? The leadership are Iranian/Russian stooges with interests directly hostile to the US. Why not stay somewhat consistent? The conditions for another Libya are met in Syria but nothing? What does that say about the Libya war? Can we at least say consistent.

Drop some bombs, fly some planes, launch some cruise missles. Blow sh*t up. Let our boys have at it and stay fresh. Thats what the US military lives for. Decimate their armed forces and decapitate the leadership. The people of the ME, they will respect that. Then leave them to their devices. Let the region implode. Only from destruction and death is failure truly cleansed from the landscape.

What we should do is arm both sides of any conflict in the ME and let them attrit themselves.

This serves two purposes:

On the other hand, there’s a huge diffenece American-interests-wise between Mubarak and Assad. An evil bastard that isn’t Iran’s Man in the Arab world would be an improvement, IMHO.
