Quotes of the day

posted at 8:30 pm on March 4, 2012 by Allahpundit

“The chair of the Democratic National Committee has called out GOP presidential front-runner Mitt Romney for not condemning comments by radio personality Rush Limbaugh about a law student who testified on Capitol Hill in support of the administration’s health care law.

“‘The bottom line is, the leading candidate on the Republican side for president couldn’t even bring himself to call Rush Limbaugh’s comments outrageous and call him out and ask him to apologize,’ Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Florida, the DNC leader, said on NBC’s ‘Meet the Press’ on Sunday…

“‘There is a dramatic contrast between President Obama and his view that women who have access to affordable health care, including contraception, and Mitt Romney and the Republicans, who believe that women should not,’ she said.”

***

“‘The lie was that somehow she was asking that taxpayers pay for contraception,’ Axelrod said on ABC’s This Week. ‘The policy is that in basic insurance policies, contraception — contraceptive services, birth control, should be included.’

“Axelrod added, ‘even in his sort of quasi-apology last night, Mr. Limbaugh continued that falsehood, and it needs to be challenged.’…

“Axelrod said Obama ‘did the right thing’ in calling Fluke, and ‘I think what Rush Limbaugh said about that young woman was not only vile and degrading to her, but to women across the country.’”

***

“Republican presidential candidate Rep. Ron Paul said an apology by conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh to Georgetown Law student Sandra Fluke for calling her a ‘slut’ and a ‘prostitute’ was not sincere, and was made only because it best served Limbaugh…

“‘He’s doing it because some people were taking their advertisements off of his program. It was his bottom line he was concerned about,’ Paul said…

“‘I don’t think he’s very apologetic,’ Paul said. ‘It’s in his best interest, that’s why he did it.’”

***

“What we are saying is that Mr. Limbaugh has abused his unique position within the conservative media to smear and vilify a citizen engaged in the exercise of her First Amendment rights, and in the process he debased a national political discourse that needs no further debasing. This is not the way a decent citizen behaves, much less a citizen who wields significant de facto power in a major political party. While Republican leaders owe no apology for Mr. Limbaugh’s comments, they do have a responsibility to repudiate them — and him…

“Incivility is not a one-way street in America. Far from it: Mr. Limbaugh’s left-wing equivalents have trashed any number of conservatives over the years. Conservatives have a point when they protest that the ‘mainstream media’ don’t always heed their legitimate grievances…

“For the good of U.S. political culture — or at least its own political self-interest — the GOP must distance itself from Mr. Limbaugh. In response to listener complaints and, apparently, the promptings of its own corporate conscience, Sleep Train Mattress Centers has quit advertising on Mr. Limbaugh’s show. Dare Republican leaders show less decency?”

***

“But if Limbaugh’s actions demand a boycott—and they do—then what about the army of swine on the left?

“[T]he grand pooh-bah of media misogyny is without a doubt Bill Maher—who also happens to be a favorite of liberals—who has given $1 million to President Obama’s super PAC. Maher has called Palin a ‘dumb twat’ and dropped the C-word in describing the former Alaska governor. He called Palin and Congresswoman Bachmann ‘boobs’ and ‘two bimbos.’ He said of the former vice-presidential candidate, ‘She is not a mean girl. She is a crazy girl with mean ideas.’ He recently made a joke about Rick Santorum’s wife using a vibrator. Imagine now the same joke during the 2008 primary with Michelle Obama’s name in it, and tell me that he would still have a job. Maher said of a woman who was harassed while breast-feeding at an Applebee’s, ‘Don’t show me your tits!’ as though a woman feeding her child is trying to flash Maher. (Here’s a way to solve his problem: don’t stare at a strangers’ breasts). Then, his coup de grâce: ‘And by the way, there is a place where breasts and food do go together. It’s called Hooters!’…

“This is not to suggest that liberals—or feminists—never complain about misogyny. Many feminist blogs now document attacks on women on the left and the right, including Jezebel, Shakesville, and the Women’s Media Center (which was cofounded by Steinem). But when it comes to high-profile campaigns to hold these men accountable—such as that waged against Limbaugh—the real fury seems reserved only for conservatives, while the men on the left get a wink and a nod as long as they are carrying water for the liberal cause.

“After all, if Limbaugh’s outburst is part of the ‘war on women,’ then what is the routine misogyny of liberal media men?”

***

“The tables have turned. Abortion used to be a matter of choice. Ditto birth control. But now that they have considerable political power, the erstwhile choice advocates want to take away the choice of dissenters to opt out.

“Choice is gone. Tolerance is musty memory. ‘Access’ is the new buzzword — and access means free. Under Obamacare, employer-paid health plans can charge women copayments for necessary and vital medical services if they are seriously ill, but birth control is free…

“What is more, Fluke asserted that if students have to go out and get their own birth control — because they chose to attend a Catholic institution — that hurts their grades. Therefore, Washington must force religious institutions to go against their deeply held beliefs and hand out birth control, if indirectly.

“Washington has accomplished a great leap, from a plea for choice to a roar of entitlement.”

***

“Barack Obama’s campaign to convince voters that ‘America is back’ is a dud, so they want everyone to look at the squirrel. When the media comes asking about Limbaugh, the Republican politician’s response ought to be: ‘I want to discuss the issues Americans actually care about — don’t you?’”

***

“When NBC’s Meet the Press host David Gregory brought up Limbaugh, Gingrich started shaking his head.

“‘I am astonished at the desperation of the elite media to avoid rising gas prices, to avoid a presidential apology to religious fanatics in Afghanistan, to avoid a trillion dollar deficit … and suddenly decide that Rush Limbaugh is the real national crisis this week,’ he said.”

Obama’s Hawkish Iran Turn
*************************

As he meets with Netanyahu, a striking rhetorical change.

As White House U-turns go, President Obama’s hawkish rhetorical shift on Iran in the last week has been remarkable. The question now is whether Israel, and especially Iran, will believe that he means it after three years of trying to woo the mullahs to the bargaining table with diplomacy.

Mr. Obama opened the annual conference of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee Sunday with a keynote whose strong talk on Iran kept the audience coming to its feet. The President took credit for isolating the Islamic Republic diplomatically and imposing a de facto oil embargo that has sent the Iranian rial tumbling.

His speech follows an interview last week with the Atlantic’s Jeffrey Goldberg in which Mr. Obama went out of his way to call a nuclear Iran “unacceptable.” He referred to the “military component” of U.S. policy and said that “I think that the Israeli government recognizes that, as President of the United States, I don’t bluff.” As startling, he added that containing a nuclear Iran wouldn’t work because of near-certain proliferation in the region and that “the risks of an Iranian nuclear weapon falling into the hands of terrorist organizations are profound.”

The timing of all this is no accident as Benjamin Netanyahu meets Mr. Obama in the White House today amid intense speculation about an imminent Israeli strike on Iran. In an interview with Journal editors on Friday, Eyal Gabbai, the former director general of the Israeli Prime Minister’s office, said Mr. Netanyahu’s meeting with Mr. Obama “will be the last time they can speak face-to-face before a decision is taken.”

Yes, I get them too. I had stayed away from the whole “Fluke controversy”, instead addressing what I see as the real issue, the administration’s attack against religious liberty. I got some name calling because of that.

But when the left began their Alinsky tactics to silence Rush and their attack against his freedom of speech, I spoke up about it and it was Katy Bar the Door.

At first I blocked them, then I applied the WWBD (what would Breitbart do) question, so I started retweeting what was being sent to me. Most of them backed off when they realized their vile was being exposed for others to see.

canopfor on March 5, 2012 at 6:46 AM

Yes, Double Agents — the Left is well skilled at that as was shown in last election and you can bet that behind some so-called Conservative user accounts on the internet (wherever, anywhere), are many a Democrat hack glued to a computer typing “well, I have my doubts about…” under guise of being someone on the Right.

They create the “rumor” and “doubt” and appearance of disunity and then they use the Leftmedia to capitalize on “all that disunity,” the rumors they’ve repeated as facts (and they get ole “Factcheck” involved to further ridicule any questions)…

I’m rather fed up but what can one do but keep on showing the truth? That’s more of why I urge people on the Right to NOT stop using twitter in the face of the Leftwing hate attacks but to learn to operate, instead, around them.

cmsinaz on March 5, 2012 at 6:50 AM

Yes, good links, thanks…

And, yes, that information will never see the dark-of-the-bottomless-pit that is the Leftmedia.

I also just saw more remarks by the decrepit Bill Maher who ‘laughed’ about how he thinks that most of the Left is dumb and dumber (to that effect).

Most of the Left — who are also using the internet to post their opinions — are limited to their intake of information from Saturday Night Live’s Leftwing writer guy who hosts that bogus news bit they run, to Comedy Central (a known Leftwing broadcaster) and HBO. THEN they take to the Internet and attack Conservatives because they hear the lunatic Maxine Waters screaming that she “hates the Tea Party” and such.

So you have to take all that Leftwing hate on the internet especially with a large dose of block.

MSNBC/NBC are entirely DNC operatives. Never expect ANYthing from them that you don’t hear Wasserman-Schultz saying or Obama snarking about.

kingsjester on March 5, 2012 at 6:54 AM

It’s important for everyone among Independents and Republicans to get that information…

Because I doubt the Left will ever recognize reality; they’ll ridicule whatever they read that counters or challenges the propaganda they’ve embraced.

Leftmedia won’t ever publish that information, count on it, or if they do, it’ll be in some defense and “restatement” of the information to make it appear she’s being victimized more (they already patronized her “I’m a victim” ruse and that was Pelosi’s evil plan, obviously).

Pelosi, Reid, this was all orchestrated by them to avoid public outcry in support of the Conscience Clause. They deflected the “sympathy vote” to embrace another one of their false messages, using Fluke and her false testimony about her false observations and mathematical calculations.

It’s a challenge to block those accounts and/or to retweet them, isn’t it? I usually give them a few retweets and perhaps a comment or two, then block them. I like to let my retorts sit there long enough before I block the accounts.

But it’s always a loss when Conservatives/Moderates leave twitter because of the Left’s attacks — my point only is that they can be relied on to always attack Conservatives (that’s not going to change). So the Right needs to realize that and keep on our message anyway, despite the Left’s rotteness there and on other sites.

Breitbart’s ‘Story Of Decade’ Proven: Big Labor, Academia, Help Occupy Movement ‘Abolish Capitalism’

Breitbart.com has received exclusive tape of an Occupy Strategy Session at New York University, billed as a group talk on “The Abolition of Capitalism.” One of the headline speakers at this session was Stephen Lerner, former leader and International Board Member of the SEIU and frequent Obama White House visitor. Lerner argued in favor of people not paying their mortgages and “occupying” their homes; he spoke in favor of invading annual shareholders meetings to shut them down. But his big goal was to get workers to shut down their workplaces. That’s where the SEIU agenda and the Occupy agenda truly meet: once workers begin to occupy.

Flora Duh on March 5, 2012 at 7:34 AM

What Rush was correct in every sense of the terms he used. Fluke is a slut and prostitute for Dems and their agenda. She used sex to get what she wanted which was to change the policy at Georgetown and attack the Catholic church on yet another front. So, yes, she is a prostitute.

Shame on Rush’s advertisers for not having the courage to stand up to the true bullies in this country – the leftists and their sick, out of control desire to force everyone in this country to believe and behave as they want. I will never consider purchasing anything from these companies again. Hopefully, I will be joined by the millions of other listeners of Rush. If not for him and his listeners, these businesses would not be nationally known nor any where near as successful.

As for Ron Paul, he is a nut. His criticism of Rush is personal and meaningless because it is just as self-serving as he attacks Rush’s comments to be, if not more so. Go away already Paul – you lunatic!

Whether an apology from Rush may or may not appease the “Moderate” Republicans and the Liberal Democrats, remains to be seen.

The fact of the matter is, Ms. Fluke is not some innocent co-ed. She is a 30 year old professional student/activist, who was probably planted at Georgetown Law School to do exactly what she did.

She most certainly has an agenda.

kingsjester on March 5, 2012 at 7:52 AM

It doesn’t. The weekend proves that. Which is why more and more I think we’ve been played…by Rush himself. The apology is all weasel words. It leaves an opening to go after every piece of leftist garbage that’s ever used derogatory sexual terms to describe women.

I hold out hope that Rush didn’t jump that shark after all.

MNHawk on March 5, 2012 at 7:54 AM

This was a trap and Rush dove into it. Now we have to defend calling someone a slut with “they did it too”. We’re now also accused of waging a war against women’s reproductive rights. Yeah, of course that’s all BS but you have to pick your battles and Rush (as well as Santorum) chose poorly. Hopefully, both will do what they can to re-focus the discussion on winning issues for the GOP and stop playing into Obama’s victim game.

Lourdes on March 5, 2012 at 6:06 AM

Yes, he was. Of course the media is hypocritical by making such a big deal out of this, when they have ignored other, more egregious statements by liberals…but that is not the point.

Rush is smarter than that. He may be an entertainer, but he’s also an important cultural and political leader to many – a role that he clearly relishes and encourages. He well knows that he can become the story and, even more important, he knows that his listeners will be tarred with the same brush used to paint him as a misogynist. And he allowed that to happen, allowed the leftists an easy score. This will blow over, but it will leave a mark.

I’m thinking maybe Rush is not as smart as I thought he was.

Priscilla on March 5, 2012 at 8:05 AM

Thank goodness this Sandra Fluke nonsense is behind us now.

Rush Limbaugh impressed me by apologizing so quickly.

I couldn’t care less about Sandra Fluke. I couldn’t care less who calls who a slut, unless it’s extremely politically stupid. My only concern about the comment was to the extent that it benefited Obama and caused a distraction away from Romney’s message about Obama’s failures. I want the focus of the campaign to be on Obama’s record… not on this kind of nonsense.

bluegill on March 5, 2012 at 8:10 AM

I mean, I shouldn’t say that I don’t care who calls who a slut… I just mean that it isn’t necessarily something to necessarily get so worked up over.

bluegill on March 5, 2012 at 8:11 AM

Read Breitbart’s expose on Obama’s communist associations in Chicago and all this dog-poo becomes clear. When are we going to start calling the media commuinist stooges? They are. When are we going to call the GOP for tip-toeing by the danger to our nation and putting up commie light Oromneycare? Why hasn’t the GOP shown outrage at Obama for attacking conscience and thus-everyone’s freedom? Are they quietly part of this game? It’s a fair question -too many compromises with the devil makes you a demon too.
Do we care?

and landed another knock-out punch on the media. He knows more than anyone that it is just as important to confront our adversaries in the media as much as any Democrat opponent. If Newt doesn’t get the nomination, I sure hope Romney is smart enough to get Newt to help him “plow the road” and gets him in the VP slot.

Faxing these sponsors in 5… 4… 3…

Save this very important post. The ties of the corporations blacklisting Rush and other conservative voices are deeply connected to Soros-funded groups. The details or the relationship and what can be done about this orchestrated, manufactured attack are spelled out in lengthy detail.

They have all the contact information listed there, but I had already done the same thing myself by Bing, Click, Contact us, email, done. It only took about 20 minutes, but it might be even quicker to do it through American Spectator.

Thanks for the link. I’ve never been a big fan of boycotts but this has developed into a mission by the Left to shut us up. I started with Pro Flowers since it is a product I have actually used but I will join in the push back.

Cindy Munford on March 5, 2012 at 8:40 AM

I’ll concede Rush calling Fluke a slut was offensive.
But Fluke asking for the state to use it’s power to unconstitutionally force an institution to provide something to her “for free” is much more offensive.

gwelf on March 5, 2012 at 7:58 AM

So now it’s offensive to tell the truth? Maybe she should not come across as being a slut.

Also did the same. I am much more loyal to Rush than these pathetic companies. They will find this out with a punishing to their bottom lines. Too bad the Libs are so pathetic. Go Rush. Big numbers today for the program.

I wouldn’t even look at it as a boycott. I look at it as going to the trouble to find out who I’m dealing with, and making sure they are not left wing donating liberals I have not interest in supporting so they have more money to donate to Obama and crew. That is just stupid on our part, especially if there are companies who we can patronize who aren’t involved in those activities. They say we are rich republicans, well let’s use that to impact their bottom line!

Arguing whether Rush was offensive or not is exactly where liberals want to keep the conversation. They don’t want to talk about the demands Fluke is making on government and society to secure her “rights”.

Whether or not Rush was offensive is a distraction. I’m saying we shouldn’t let ourselves get distracted.

gwelf on March 5, 2012 at 8:52 AM

Mr. Friend, CEO of Carbonite……..

Texans for Truth also drew Mr. Friend’s support. This group, according to Wikipedia, was set up by MoveOn.org spin-off Drive Democracy.org in 2004. Why? To… wait for it… challenge then-President Bush’s service in the Texas National Guard.

Cindy Munford on March 5, 2012 at 8:54 AM

I wonder how many of the OWS ilk use the products that are advertised on Rush’s show. I’m guessing there aren’t too many Sleep Number beds in those tents. Something that is good to remind the advertisers of, they advertised on Rush’s show because he brought them customers.

Do you really want to deal with a company whose sales staff hangs up on customers? Taking a political stand over some 30-year-old slut is bad enough but to disrepect customers says all that needs to be said about this company. I do like the idea that they are feeling the heat for making the decision that this non-issue is where they want to declare war against talk radio.

I wrote through my 24/7 sub, and expressed disappointment. After pondering it another day and throwing off ideas of a couple of others, I’m now holding out hope that Rush is continuing the bit, though the non apology apology.

We’ll find out. Bill Maher/SCoaMF is just too big of a hanging curve ball for Rush not to make a grand example out of, just like this.

3 hours…we’ll see.

Cindy Munford on March 5, 2012 at 8:42 AM

None of the offense was sincere. Unfortunately, with the original comment, Rush gave them exactly what they wanted: a distraction from other more important issues and an opportunity for her to play a victim. Rush is an effective boogeyman for the left, since he is both strongly associated with the Republican brand and because he is unpopular and disliked among many who aren’t very partisan Republicans or conservatives. Slut-gate reframed and refocused the debate in such a way that favored Democrats. Of course it’s not right or fair, but Rush should have known better.

Rush was quick to end the story, though. So good for him.

bluegill on March 5, 2012 at 8:57 AM

I never want to hear about this Sandra Fluke woman again.

I’d like to see all these sites just drop it and move on to things we want to be talking about.

Nothing good for Republicans will come out of continuing this dumb story. It only helps Obama.

DHChron on March 5, 2012 at 9:01 AM

What’s wrong with calling her a slut? She should be proud. After all, these leftists have promoted the idea of being a slut as something glamorous and to be celebrated.

Look at who they are constantly talking about and gushing over. People like Paris Hilton, Lady Gaga, Madonna, Pamela Anderson, et al, are hot tickets on tv talk shows. These people are always promoting free sex without consequences. They think there is nothing wrong college raves, hooking up whenever and not to mention booty calls.

They want to teach our children about sex, as early as in kindergarten. So obviously, this is faux outrage from the leftists and Dems for political gain. Only those who are sluts and feel guilty about acting like a slut should be offended.

I’m not sure the end of this story is in Rush’s hands. It appears to be a concerted effort to add Rush to Don Imus, Lou Dobbs and Glenn Beck.

Thanks for your comments! I was just able to cancel the account through the online chat support. I hope others follow suit. I mentioned the hangups and that I was disappointed in Friend’s comments because they do not support free speech. Also that he referred to a 30 year old activist wanting taxpayers to pay for her birth control pills as “Miss”. I’m a parent too! I think I may gotten an online chuckle on that one. Keep the pressure on!

Cindy Munford on March 5, 2012 at 9:16 AM

Maybe. I think there are a lot of people chomping at the bit to replace those advertisers that showed absolutely no backbone.

Sporty1946 on March 5, 2012 at 9:28 AM

“‘He’s doing it because some people were taking their advertisements off of his program. It was his bottom line he was concerned about,’ Paul said…

“‘I don’t think he’s very apologetic,’ Paul said. ‘It’s in his best interest, that’s why he did it.’”

Classic Paul.

There’s no bigger conservative voice than Rush’s.

The battle is on. The future of the nation is at stake, and Ron Paul is trying to take Rush’s knees out.

As usual, Paul is a slave to his own jealousy and questioning the bigger, better known conservative when he’s at his most vulnerable.

Put aside Paul’s racist, antisemitic back story, his ‘truther’ nutterism, his ‘blame America first’ foreign policy and you still have a repugnant character.

This was a warning shot across the bow. After those running for the R nomination get done whacking each other, they have to start tearing into Zero. This is the same kind of treatment they will get when the fur starts flying. They’ve tried to take out Rush before and will again. Funny thing, all this started on the day he had a bomb scare at his house. Gibbs rule #12, there is no such thing as a coincidence.

Love Rush’s opening today: “I tried to cancel my Two if by Tea but every time I called myself the line was busy, so Two if by Tea is still a sponsor of this program.”

So I just ordered a case and urge all Rush supporters to do the same.

Wasn’t it Anderson Cooper who first called Tea Partiers “teabaggers”? I don’t remember his sponsors leaving him even though “teabaggers” is a derogatory sexual term for people who were concerned about freedom not sexual issues. Where was the outcry from the media? Oh yes, there was an outcry — to join the chorus against “teabaggers”. So why are sponsors pulling away from Rush? Politics. Come against it, friends.
