Scott Brown: Limbaugh should apologize for his reprehensible “slut” comment

posted at 8:35 pm on March 2, 2012 by Allahpundit

There’s nothing more predictable than the fallout from a “Rush says something outrageous” story. Nearly everyone benefits from it: The media feeds all day on easy content, the left gets high off a tremendous rush of rage and sanctimony, Democrats score partisan points by using it to bludgeon the GOP, the White House gets a handy change-of-subject to distract from whatever the latest horrible news is, and Rush himself gets attention, ratings, and the amusement of seeing his critics jump through the hoop he’s set up. The only losers are Republican leaders, forced to choose between agreeing with him and being pummeled by Democratic attack ads and vicious media criticism and disagreeing with him and being pummeled by Rush fans, and anyone else who’d rather fight this policy battle on more favorable rhetorical ground.

Scott Brown, running in deep blue Massachusetts, jumps through the hoop:

Rush Limbaugh’s comments are reprehensible. He should apologize.

Romney, who can’t afford to offend Dittoheads the way Brown can, initially ducked questions about it before politely saying, “It’s not the language I would have used.” As for Santorum, watch the CNN clip below via Mediaite. He says Rush is being absurd because he is, after all, an “entertainer,” but that excuse never spares, say, Jon Stewart from criticism on the right. Stewart, in fact, is famous for his “clown nose off, clown nose on” schtick, operating as a satirical yet fundamentally serious commentator until he’s called out for something he’s said, when suddenly he’s “just a comedian” again and you should really lighten up, dude. Rush sometimes benefits from the same defense, even though he is in fact “the First and Foremost thought-leader” for a lot of grassroots conservatives. Ah well. By Monday, we’ll all be onto something else. Roll on, mighty short-attention-spanned news cycle.

What is a proper label for a woman who tells the entire nation about her sex life and admits to spending 3000 dollars in 3 years on birth control, if not a slut? Is sex addict ok? B/c that does seem like an awful lot of sex considering how cheap birth control is.

Dr. Tesla on March 3, 2012 at 4:41 PM

That depends if she used a ‘service’ or not. That could just be all in one evening…

Bunsin2 on March 3, 2012 at 4:42 PM

For those of you who doubt that the Conservative Media now has the power that the Mainstream Media used to have (and still thinks it does), this week should clear things up. Rush (and the rest of the New Media) are howitzers aimed at the Left and the Old Media.

In this culture war, it’s nice to know the big guns are on our side. Don’t think the Left isn’t made nervous by this. So are old-guard Republicans. So much power. It scares them.

The odd thing is that she gave testimony about other people. Her friend with the medical condition that required birth control pills and others who were paying “as much” as $3K for three years of pills. That’s the other thing, if her friend had a condition (other than not getting pregnant) that required birth control, wouldn’t they be covered under some other term rather than contraceptive?

Cindy Munford on March 3, 2012 at 5:00 PM

You know, I don’t really care how much sex this Fluke woman has, or doesn’t have because she “can’t afford it”. What I do care about is the plain fact that she outright lied during her testimony. If birth control costs her 1k a year, I’m the tooth fairy.

She lied about who she is and she lied about the numbers.

I’m past the age of worrying, but I do remember buying my own birth control. No big deal. Would I have liked to have insurance cover it? Sure, but I was also willing to pay the additional premium.

This whole theatrical production isn’t about birth control availablility. It’s about the First Amendment and control.

Can one single leftist reconcile their rabid desire to remove all, and I do mean all, traces of “religion” from the public sphere (creches from public squares, the Ten Commandments from courthouses, etc.), and their demand that there be an absolute bright line separation between church and state with their insistence that the state be permitted to dictate matters of conscience to “the churches”?

Separation of church and state is okay when it gets a stateist what they want but not okay when it has the opposite effect.

These people lack simple logic skills. It’s a wonder they ever made it out of 6th grade.

totherightofthem on March 3, 2012 at 5:00 PM

I now understand why the left enjoys mounting this sort of attack. It’s very freeing. lol

jeanie on March 3, 2012 at 5:02 PM

I think it’s fair game to talk about her sex life if she forces it on us. I’m not invading her privacy, she’s invited me on in. And I got some opinions about it.

Dr. Tesla on March 3, 2012 at 5:04 PM

The reality is she’s not paying 1000 a year for birth control, she probably paying 1000 a year for a guy to have sex with her. I’d have to overdose on Viagra to get it up for her and I’m still not sure I could do it. :)

For over 20 years, I have illustrated the absurd with absurdity, three hours a day, five days a week. In this instance, I chose the wrong words in my analogy of the situation. I did not mean a personal attack on Ms. Fluke.

I think it is absolutely absurd that during these very serious political times, we are discussing personal sexual recreational activities before members of Congress. I personally do not agree that American citizens should pay for these social activities. What happened to personal responsibility and accountability? Where do we draw the line? If this is accepted as the norm, what will follow? Will we be debating if taxpayers should pay for new sneakers for all students that are interested in running to keep fit?In my monologue, I posited that it is not our business whatsoever to know what is going on in anyone’s bedroom nor do I think it is a topic that should reach a Presidential level.

My choice of words was not the best, and in the attempt to be humorous, I created a national stir. I sincerely apologize to Ms. Fluke for the insulting word choices.

I can only assume that it’s out of intellectual laziness: he, and some of you, find it easier to try to destroy her reputation than to argue against the points she’s making. Which is a shame, because there are some cogent, rational arguments that you can make in response to her.

- And this leads me to my final point: Yes, Limbaugh should apologize for her boorish behavior, because in civilized company we don’t argue that way. It’s just not cool to respond to any kind of argument by saying “you’re a slut” or “you’re a Jew” or “you’re gay.” But most of all, he should apologize to other conservatives because by opening his mouth without using his brain he gave every opponent of Ms. Fluke a bad name.

I’m just sayin…

You presume Rush was being intellectually lazy, so I presume you are by the same standard you are judging Rush. It’s only fair to judge you negatively like you did Rush, correct? Harsh critics deserve harsh criticism themselves, don’t they?

You “can only assume that it’s out of intellectual laziness” that he said what he did? Really? Are you really so uncreative? You can’t think of any other possibilities for his statements? Are there no innocent, non-insultive reasons you can come up with instead? Isn’t it a sign, then, of your own intellectual laziness that you can’t?

Do you believe every one of your mistakes occurs because you’re being intellectually lazy at the time you’re making them? What about “forgetfulness” – does that ever happen to you? Is “forgetfulness” the same thing as “intellectual laziness” to you? Is the following an example of “intellectual laziness” to you? ‘I was offended by what someone said, got overemotional about it, and I ended up saying something I wouldn’t have said if I had thought more at first about what I was commenting on.’ Noooooo, that kind of thing never happens to people like you, does it?

I find it laughable that you believe he owed you some kind of apology, and I find it supremely laughable that you believe he owed you one more than he did Fluke – again, using your own standards, it’s therefore justifiable for me to call you a socialist, because in your mind, Rush didn’t just sin against Fluke, even though his comments were directed only at her, you believe he committed a greater sin against a community of people because he disappointed them (boo hoo), as you feel he has some sort of obligation to them. Let me tell you what a pathetic, retarded sentiment that is.

I’m just sayin’, too…

If Sandy received anything of value (consideration) in exchange for her testimony, then she is by definition, a prostitute.

The fact that she’s a slut stands alone based on her own description of her sex life.

Rush is off the hook with me. Brown et.al. can STFU.

I would give up one of my sizable weekly paycheck to see Dawn’s and Snerdley’s faces when Rush said this.

Rush is playing three dimensional chess while the left is playing with itself.

Looking for the liberal vote Scott? Don’t worry. Just being the RINO that you are will probably get you lib votes.

Georgetown should just drop its student health plan altogether. It is not required under law to provide healthcare to students. Students aren’t employees. Of course, since Ms Fluke is not the 23 year-old babe-in-the-woods she held herself out to be, she won’t be allowed to stay on her parents’ health insurance policy.

Perfect payback for the little b1tch.

This is coming from a guy who posed for Playgirl or some other trash mag during his youth. Maybe you should stick to the issues, Scott and leave the socon stuff to Rick.
