Rush: If we’re gonna pay for birth control, we want something in return

posted at 6:35 pm on March 1, 2012 by Tina Korbe

When Rush Limbaugh called Georgetown law student and so-called contraception activist Sandra Fluke a “slut” and a “prostitute,” he immediately took heat for it. What’d the legendary radio host do in response? He didn’t back down, that’s for sure.

Today, Rush sought to clarify his comments, but stood by his fundamental premise: Women who take money for sex are prostitutes, so women who take money for contraception for sex aren’t far behind.

He even went one step further, suggesting that the hard-working Americans who will have to pay higher insurance premiums to finance law students’ sex lives should be able to verify that their dollars-for-contraception are put to good use:

“If we’re going to have to pay for this — then we want something in return, Ms. Fluke,” Limbaugh said. “And that would be the videos of all this sex posted online so we can see what we’re getting for our money.”

Limbaugh attempted to clarify his comments and explain the rationale for his derisive labeling of Fluke.

“Now what did I say?” Limbaugh asked. “I said if we’re paying for this, it makes these women sluts, prostitutes. What else could it be? We are buying it.”

Rush’s comments are intentionally provocative, but they also underscore the point that women and men who aren’t sexually active rarely have a need for contraception. Others have made the point he’s making — that if we’re gonna pay for birth control, we want something in return — in a less over-the-top way by pointing out that, if we’re going to pay for our neighbor’s birth control, then we should have a say in our neighbor’s sex life. How does that newly-coined saying go? “If you don’t want Uncle Sam in your bedroom, don’t ask Uncle Sam to pay for what goes down in your bedroom.”

Again, contraception is not a necessity and fertility is not a disease. As plenty of folks have pointed out, contraception is, in fact, impossible to “insure,” as it’s impossible to “insure” against an expense that a person knows for a fact he or she will incur. In that case, it’s just an expense — and the person who’s gonna incur it should budget for it.

You better go read the transcript of his entire monologue. This is only one line from an over 29 minute blurb that he did on it. He addressed your concerns very well in it.

http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/daily/2012/03/01/left_freaks_out_over_my_fluke_remarks

Your rant has no substance, because you don’t know what you’re talking about.

JannyMae on March 1, 2012 at 7:41 PM

Yeah I heard that, and as far as I know no one is forcing them to have sex. But the crux of the argument should have been about other people paying for the actions of others and not about sex. He couldn’t help himself though because it was ripe for the picking!

Comedy gold Jerry! But all this does is turn off most people. Believe it or not, many people have healthy sex drives. What his line of reasoning does is confuse the issue and get people defensive about their own sexuality. He doesn’t even know what is being covered, which I assume is the monthly pill. Not morning after pills or condoms. Frankly, I don’t think he knows how women work.

antisense on March 1, 2012 at 8:01 PM

Once again Rush can’t seem to get to the real heart of the issue – i.e. the federal government shouldn’t be forcing ANYONE to pay for ANYTHING.

He loses EVERYONE by pulling this crap which only dates him somewhere to the 1950′s and pisses normal people off. His schtick or whatever might be that he doesn’t care about women being offended, but it is harmful to conservatives.

He makes no attempt to make an intellectual argument about federal government compulsion, and instead attacks them as sluts, which forwards the notion this is wrong purely on moral grounds. It is not.

He just wants attention for himself and he got it.

I think Ms. Fluke was an embarrassment, because it was so easily proven wrong that she and others pay over $3000.00 for BC over 3 years (not to mention the main argument that BC, for some reason, should never have a co-pay and should be free), but I think Rush crossed the line today, and I’m not one who usually offends easily. He really came across as slimy and sleazy…he could have made the point without going on and on about how much sex she wants to have, and calling her a slut and prostitute was pretty low-class. If my daughters had been home when he was on, I would have definitely turned him off so they wouldn’t hear that crap. Between this and his continuing to claim that Andrea Mitchell has an aspirin between her legs, I can’t help but wonder what Rush’s problem is…I used to almost be able to see the “wink wink”, when Rush was going on about something, but he just sounds mean and nasty, now, IMO. And I have listened to him for almost 18 years, and I listen every day (though maybe not for much longer). He has changed and not for the better, in my eyes.

ellifint on March 1, 2012 at 8:35 PM

Do we see a pattern yet? Libs are interested in a life without consequences….

1. Buy a home far more expensive than you could ever afford … no problem, your neighbor (who did it right) will bail you out so that you can stay in the home.

2. Enter the U.S. illegally … no problem, we’ll figure out a way to keep you here on the legal citizens dime.

3. Want to have more kids out of wedlock that you can’t afford … no problem, we’ll pay you more so that you can keep procreating.

4. Want to have endless sex without consequences … no problem, we’ll not only pay for it but we’ll pay for the abortion OR the baby, whichever you choose!

Face it folks, this is a cultural defect that is in the process of completely ruining this country. If it doesn’t change soon, we’re doomed.

I’m never going to forget in High School when I got into a public debate about abortion and birth control. I kept hearing crap about how “Abortion has to be legal because birth control isn’t 100% effective”

I finally had enough and actually stood up at the microphone and said. “Hey, there is a sure fire way NOT to get pregnant. It’s called abstinence and it works every time” The silence that followed was deafening, but what was more interesting was I kept getting stopped in the halls by teachers thanking me for saying that.

I have one question, why didn’t they say anything? Part of the problem is that we are growing up in a world where everyone is told that it’s okay to be like Charlotte York. I one time got into an argument with my doctor at the school health clinic here on my college campus. He couldn’t understand why I haven’t had a pap smear yet (and I’m 22!) I finally explained that I’m not sexually active so I don’t need one. He simply couldn’t believe that a college student didn’t have sex! (He shook my hand by the way, he was proud…that was a little weird).

Just this month we had a “Safe Love Month” in honor of February where the people in my dorm hall were passing out condoms! We had a GIANT paper condom hanging in our lobby that told people to take the free condoms.

Look I don’t care if people have sex, it’s not my business. But to glorify it only makes things worse.

It’s easy. Make stupid statements that are easily checkmated, argue for the sake of arguing, and go live in your mother’s attic while to pretend to look for a job.

Easy, right?

Thanks for that ;) I’ll get the hang of it..I know I will! Should I start by insisting you really are Elmer Fudd, even though you acknowledged your own typo?

Sure are a lot of mewling liberals in these comments. Pathetic simps. Rush’s comments are done to deliberately focus attention on the utter fraud that lay at the foul center of this Democrat-contrived reanimation of the ‘abortion’ debate.
His comments about the stupid political whore student-activist Useful Idiot that was trotted in to ‘testify’ about the “hardship” of birth control costing her less than 1/3 of her daily latte, while she blows well in excess of $100k on a substandard progressive indoctrination are meant to also deliberately offend and draw attention to the MASSIVE POLITICAL FRAUD being perpetrated by the left, as THEY wage war on people’s choices of religious beliefs.

ultracon on March 1, 2012 at 8:55 PM

That’s the thing. If we are going to be subsidizing birth control, then why are we not getting the cheapest, most cost-effective type available? And why are we not subsidizing birth control that prevents the spread of STDs?

I’m not saying that I think that the government should be paying for these things. I don’t. I think that the idea of the government buying birth control for people is ridiculous. (Where do I go to get my government-subsidized beer?) But this idea doesn’t even make sense, even if you think that the government should be in the health care provision business. It’s just a bunch of imbeciles giving away stuff that they think is free to make themselves feel good about themselves and generous.

He should have said what you just said, and refraining from calling her a prostitute. That she sleeps around isn’t what makes objectionable (opinions may vary on this.) What makes her objectionable is that she wants to sleep around, and she shamelessly expects us to shield her from the consequences. This doesn’t make her a prostitute; it makes her an immature brat.

I think Rush crossed the line today, and I’m not one who usually offends easily. He really came across as slimy and sleazy…he could have made the point without going on and on about how much sex she wants to have, and calling her a slut and prostitute was pretty low-class. If my daughters had been home when he was on, I would have definitely turned him off so they wouldn’t hear that crap. Between this and his continuing to claim that Andrea Mitchell has an aspirin between her legs, I can’t help but wonder what Rush’s problem is

ellifint on March 1, 2012 at 8:35 PM

The line for “dirty old man” is about 55 years old. Even though Rush is married, at the moment, he may have crossed it. Wiki says he’s 61, so … yeah … he might be a dirty old man.

Paul-Cincy on March 1, 2012 at 9:26 PM

I agree with Rush. Sandra Fluke and everyone like her is a slut. If she doesn’t want to be called what she clearly is then she should keep her business to herself.

If I were related to someone like her I would clearly tell her what she is and then disown her.

If that’s designed to piss the left off, just think about how this will play in an election year.

Then again pissing the left off and insulting them has been priority one this election year, so BAU….

My personal opinion: Rush sounds like one of the typical FL pill popper who’s only option is porn because the only reason they have a wife in the fist place is because they have a house on Ocean Dr in FL. First he calls the girl a slut, then he goes fantasizing about her doing a sex tape. For everytime Romney will appear on his show (if ever from now on) he’ll be the guy who pals around with a woman verbal abuser who wants them do porn.

But what do I know…carry on.

Off topic:

The article on Drudge has me upset regarding the TSA now stopping private vehicles on U.S. highways at roadblocks security checkpoints.

The article’s really a dog, but here’s the key part:

Interestingly enough, as TSA officials like to routinely point out, their agency’s acronym stands for Transportation Security Administration, not the Airport Security Administration. This fact has extended the TSA’s reach has far beyond the confines of our nation’s airports. Many of my constituents discovered this first hand this past fall as those familiar blue uniforms and badges appeared on Tennessee highways. In October Tennessee became the first state to conduct a statewide Department of Homeland Security Visible Intermodal Prevention and Response (VIPR) team operation which randomly inspected Tennessee truck drivers and cars.

VIPR teams which count TSOs among their ranks, conduct searches and screenings at train stations, subways, ferry terminals and every other mass transit location around the country. In fact, as the Los Angeles Times has detailed, VIPR teams conducted 9,300 unannounced checkpoints and other search operations in the last year alone. The very thought of federal employees with zero law enforcement training roaming across our nation’s transportation infrastructure with the hope of randomly thwarting a domestic terrorist attack makes about as much sense as EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson’s Environmental Justice tour.

I recently drove cross country, near the border, and was stopped three different times by government blockades across the highway.

At one, I had dogs leaping up inside my car without my consent, getting their dirty paws on my vintage, irreplaceble, cloth upholstery.

The feeling I had after passing through these checkpoints must be something – in a small way – similar to the feeling a rape victim has. I felt upset and violated, because there was no asking. I was ordered around, while minding my own business.

After the last unconstitutional stop, I took a long, looping route through remote Texas farm roads, because I knew I was close to blowing a gasket at the next “checkpoint.”

I have driven cross country several times, most recently in ’07, and it was totally different this time. I felt like I was in a police state.

It is totally in violation of the Constitution that the TSA can blockade our roads and search random cars.

The TSA is a Constitutional abomination that must be legislated out of existence, at the earliest opportuniy, before it gets its claws further into our freedoms.

Why would any adult, working woman want her employer involved in the purchase of her birth control? Why aren’t women offended by this presumption that if their boss doesn’t pay for their birth control, they aren’t capable of buying it? It’s offensive to me.

mbs on March 1, 2012 at 9:36 PM

They’re only misogynistic if you baseline view of women is that they are all sluts. Something that is not true, except to a lib. Otherwise, the choice, and the control, is theirs.

WryTrvllr on March 1, 2012 at 8:22 PM

Agreed..The larger point here is that if you expect me and everyone else to pay for your life choice; be prepared to be criticized by those choice.

Funny how progressive’s meme is “keep government out of the bedroom”– unless it means paying for other people bedroom behavior.
