Rush: If we’re gonna pay for birth control, we want something in return

posted at 6:35 pm on March 1, 2012 by Tina Korbe

When Rush Limbaugh called Georgetown law student and so-called contraception activist Sandra Fluke a “slut” and a “prostitute,” he immediately took heat for it. What’d the legendary radio host do in response? He didn’t back down, that’s for sure.

Today, Rush sought to clarify his comments, but stood by his fundamental premise: Women who take money for sex are prostitutes, so women who take money for contraception for sex aren’t far behind.

He even went one step further, suggesting that the hard-working Americans who will have to pay higher insurance premiums to finance law students’ sex lives should be able to verify that their dollars-for-contraception are put to good use:

“If we’re going to have to pay for this — then we want something in return, Ms. Fluke,” Limbaugh said. “And that would be the videos of all this sex posted online so we can see what we’re getting for our money.”

Limbaugh attempted to clarify his comments and explain the rationale for his derisive labeling of Fluke.

“Now what did I say?” Limbaugh asked. “I said if we’re paying for this, it makes these women sluts, prostitutes. What else could it be? We are buying it.”

Rush’s comments are intentionally provocative, but they also underscore the point that women and men who aren’t sexually active rarely have a need for contraception. Others have made the point he’s making — that if we’re gonna pay for birth control, we want something in return — in a less over-the-top way by pointing out that, if we’re going to pay for our neighbor’s birth control, then we should have a say in our neighbor’s sex life. How does that newly-coined saying go? “If you don’t want Uncle Sam in your bedroom, don’t ask Uncle Sam to pay for what goes down in your bedroom.”

Again, contraception is not a necessity and fertility is not a disease. As plenty of folks have pointed out, contraception is, in fact, impossible to “insure,” as it’s impossible to “insure” against an expense that a person knows for a fact he or she will incur. In that case, it’s just an expense — and the person who’s gonna incur it should budget for it.

You have apparently mistaken me for a four-times married, morbidly obese junkie, better known as the leader of the Republican Party. I won’t be able to blog much longer. Rush’s show is coming on soon and I want to hear him lecture on traditional family values.

I’ve found that typing a red herring out twice, really does change what went on in that committee room a couple days ago.

If you type it a third time, you win the interwebs. Maybe your time would be better spent advocating for free dating site listings. After all, if you can’t get it in the first place, free birth control means nothing. Not everyone can afford Georgetown, and have that door opened to unlimited nookie.

MNHawk on March 2, 2012 at 12:13 PM

This is why the AMA and other medical groups strongly oppose these types of restrictions on their ability to care for their patients.

Do you really think this is an audience of Democrat women, and are stupid enough to believe what you typed?

Are you as much of a personal and professional fraud as you are an internet fraud? What is it about leftist that prevents it’s adherents from just being honest about what they believe in? Why does your type cower so much?

MNHawk on March 2, 2012 at 12:14 PM

Would it not be less expensive in the long run, to abort ms. fluke?

rgranger on March 2, 2012 at 12:15 PM

So why isn’t it a ‘right” to have free gas, if getting free birth control is now a “right” you can certainly do without either. Don’t drive, don’t have sex. Actually since I don’t need birth control can I just have the free gas instead.

Quick answer. She was asking that the insurance policy she bought from her school cover contraception – just like it covers Viagra.

plewis on March 2, 2012 at 12:41 PM

Modifying the quote slightly,

“If you don’t want the government to have a say what goes on in your bedroom, don’t let them into your bedroom.”

I’m amazed at how naive these liberals are. You sell your soul to the government for a couple of condomns and a few crumbs of government cheese and they own you. Why are so many so willing to sell their soul so cheaply? Or is it that ‘Satan’ is so subtle in his methods. “Here, my dear, let me give you this…how much will it cost? Oh, don’t worry your pretty little head. We’ll worry about that later.”

I can’t believe this woman is asking taxpayers to pay for her birth control, and she has the nerve to take offense when Rush Limbaugh makes jokes at her expense.

Good try. But the blog was about your Fearless Leader attacking a young woman for her moral failings. You defend him. You ignore his own putrid suspect moral character in defending him so I assume you approve. He’s a bully and a punk and any man who defends attacks on women is a bully and a punk. If I was Ms. Fluke’s daddy I’d slap the fat off his junkie face.

plewis on March 2, 2012 at 12:53 PM

Everyone seems to be ignoring the FACT that most, if not all, of what Miss Fluke said was a total load of crap. Nearly every word was made up crap and lies. And easily verifiable, too! $3,000 for three years of contraception? Maybe, if you’re flying to France once a year to get it. If not, that is a lie. All of this has been pointed out. Crap, total, unadulterated crap. And still, her ‘supporters’ and defenders ignore this reality, these facts and put more stock in her intent rather than her reality. THIS IS NOT AN ISSUE. No one is having to choose between a condom and food! But by making crap up, they’re creating an issue that does not even exist! Why isn’t THIS being talked about?

Rush Limbaugh is not the issue. Miss Fluke is. Stop trying to deflect her bull crap laden spew with an attack on Rush. Whether he’s insulting or not, Miss Fluke set herself up for this when she sat before congress and lied, lied, lied. If she’s smart enough to get into Georgetown law school, hopefully she’s smart enough to learn from this lesson; when you lie, you tend to get the crap kicked out of your argument when the truth comes knocking at the door.

But the blog was about your Fearless Leader attacking a young woman for her moral failings.

I never heard Rush put it in those terms. Just laugh at her for needing $3,000 to have sex. Lots of sex. Do you think she’s a moral failure, chumplett? I think she’s the typical Democrat woman of 2012, myself. Completely and utterly helpless without a Sugar Daddy in her life. Moral Failure? Hmmm, I’ll leave that to those with a higher pay grade.

He’s a bully and a punk and any man who defends attacks on women is a bully and a punk.

Awwww. Leftist women now can’t be expected to take what they dish out. Is it just leftist women in your world so helpless, or all women. Judging from most replies in this thread, I would venture leftist women only.

Exit question. At any time, do leftist men such as yourself ever man up, and spring for the birth control?

MNHawk on March 2, 2012 at 1:05 PM

I’ll tell you why Rush was wrong. Young Sandra Fluke of Georgetown Law is not a “slut.” She’s a moocher and a tool of the Nanny State. She’s a poster girl for the rabid Planned Parenthood lobby and its eugenics-inspired foremothers.

Unlike the leftist alpha male wannabes in this thread. Michelle Malkin can take on Rush, and make a good case for Rush being off base.

See how easy that is to do, when not ashamed of your core beliefs to the point where you always feel the need to deflect and distort?

This morning in an interview with Matt Lauer on the Today show it was revealed that she is 30 y/o NOT the 23 that had been reported all along.
In other words, folks, you are being played. She has been an activist all along and the Dems were just waiting for the appropriate time to play her.

KeninCT on March 2, 2012 at 1:27 PM

Quick answer. She was asking that the insurance policy she bought from her school cover contraception – just like it covers Viagra.

Stupid answer.

Viagra CORRECTS what should be a normal bodily function. It fixes a medical problem.

Contraception PREVENTS a normal bodily function.

Contraception is not “preventive medicine” because pregnancy is not a disease.

Please God, if I ever have daughters, guide them in life never to become a Democrat prop. Please guide them in ways that they never feel the need to lie about their life history (at least when it doesn’t have to do with the S word.) And please, please guide them in college to choose a major that leads to employment, so they will be too busy working to be worried about the lack of free nookie, at 30 years old.

MNHawk on March 2, 2012 at 2:13 PM

I think that the administration totally misjudged this one. The Rush controversy tends to deflect from the main point but I believe that more people get it than don’t. The main points are obviously that this regulation is clearly in violation of the First Amendment and that other people other than the user will be required to pay for contraceptives. The second point opens up a complete “can of worms” and who knows what personal responsibility item will be next. As far as Rush is concerned he stated it a bit crudely but is basically correct and most of the women I know agree with him.

Let me get this straight. This woman, who can afford to attend a $65,000 a year college, wants me, who can barely afford the gas to get to work, to pay for her sex life? I know a young family whose main diet consists of spagetti and peanut butter because it’s the cheapest and goes the furtherest and the mother can no longer buy fresh fruit and the husband works 16-hour days, six days a week to afford that—THEY get to pay for this spoiled little witches’ sex life?

I understand Boener is being FORCED to apologize for Limbaugh! If he does, I’m furious. First it’s not his business and second, why is Boener telling us we can starve to pay for this woman’s sex life.

Calling someone a “slut” or “prostitute” is an attack on character. You may have heard these endearments tossed around at home when you were growing up but most recognize them as personal attacks. You and Rush are classic right wing warriors, he attacks a young woman from the safety of his sound booth and you from the anonymity of your mom’s basement.By the way, she wasn’t asking anyone for $3,000. She was asking that contraception be included in the health insurance coverage she purchased as a part of her tuition. And ease that tingle in your leg, Junior. The dumbest people in college are in Political Science, and other government related majors. That carries on to graduate school. Getting into a law school is not a monumental achievement. It would probably match up to some dingbat not capable of going to WalMart and buying a box of pills, needing a Sugar Daddy.
