Obama campaign manager to Koch brothers: Disclose your donors

posted at 10:15 pm on February 29, 2012 by Allahpundit

He’s not ordering them to do it but he’s not politely requesting either. This cheap bit of intimidation is now front and center on Hopenchange’s official campaign blog and part of a call for petition signatures on Obama’s Twitter account. It’s the second time in five days that they’ve demagogued the Kochs to try to “energize” liberals. They pulled this on the Chamber of Commerce too before the 2010 midterms but that didn’t help them in the election because, really, who cares about the Chamber of Commerce? The Kochs are a much more conductive lightning rod for leftist paranoia. Presumably Team O will mess with them for a few months to warm up and then start screeching about Roger Ailes to really start Democrats buzzing.

I wonder which rich liberal the next Republican president should publicly harass as a cynical campaign gimmick. Start thinking of candidates. And don’t say Soros. Too easy.

The Kochs noticed. Their lobbyist in chief responded in an open letter to me. Here’s how he defended AFP, which is attempting to influence this election by pumping millions into ads bashing the President:

“… it has tens of thousands of members and contributors from across the country and from all walks of life.” Just a couple ordinary folks, pitching in what they can.

I’d like them to prove it. So I wrote back, challenging the Koch brothers—the same guys who recently called the 2012 election “the mother of all wars”—to disclose for the public exactly who’s behind the millions of dollars they’re spending on attack ads.

Join me and demand that the Koch brothers make their donors public.

That’s from Jim “Punch Back Twice As Hard” Messina. I’d forgotten that he was the apparatchik charged with discouraging Democratic upstarts from challenging establishment favorites in the primaries by offering them secret backroom deals. Luckily, David Freddoso remembered. So much for public transparency. More from DF:

If I had a line to the Kochs (and I do not), I’d suggest they respond this way: That they’ll release their donors names as soon as Obama voluntarily releases…

1) names, numbers and records for all small campaign donations under $200 — so that we can see how many of them are fake this time;

2) all paperwork related to Fast and Furious and Solyndra that might have been part of internal executive deliberations or otherwise merit some kind of withholding from FOIA under executive privilege.

3) while we’re at it, how about Obama’s college transcripts?

Jon Gabriel is right: The true target of intimidation here isn’t the Kochs, who can afford the lawyers and bodyguards they’ll need to deal with the new wave of left-wing hate this bottom-feeding pander will send their way, but grassroots conservatives and libertarians who are otherwise inclined to donate to right-wing political groups. If you want to cut a check but worry for reasons personal or professional about reprisals from people around you if they find out, then the prospect of the White House bringing public pressure to bear on an organization to disclose its donors will make you think twice. I hope the Kochs don’t take the bait. It wouldn’t reduce the demagoguery one iota if they did.

If only the Obama “administration” were half as suspicious or obsessed with Iran.

But then, they are only developing nukes that could potentially kill millions of Americans.

While the Koch’s may present a threat to Obama’s re-election.

It’s obvious which one they actually care about (not Iran).

Just as soon as Tides Foundation discloses how each of their donors have “earmarked” their donations.

Tides is designed from the start to “launder” donations. They are the money behind nearly all of the “progressive causes”.

They will publish a list of who donated to Tides. They will publish a list who Tides donated to. But they won’t publish a list of which causes Tides donors earmarked their donations for.

On a related note, the SEC commissioner has just called for a rule requiring public companies to disclose all political spending:

As corporate money continues its steady flow through the post-Citizens United world of U.S. elections, general counsel may soon have a new disclosure item to worry about. Last Friday, commissioner Luis Aguilar of the Securities and Exchange Commission called for the agency to consider a new rule requiring public companies to disclose all political spending.

“When it is clear that investors are in the dark and not receiving adequate disclosures, the commission should act, and act swiftly, to ensure that investors have the information they require,” he said.

….

All shareholders are entitled to the information that will help them make wise investment decisions, according to the commissioner. They may not want to invest in companies that engage in political spending, or that back candidates or causes they oppose.

Somehow, I don’t think the Obama administration campaign has the interests of the shareholders at heart.

This is a campaign strategy? Where, in Cuba? If this is the best Obama can do he may be the first President to lose all 50 states. I can remember, when Nixon won in a landslide, he carried 49 states and the infamous bumper sticker at the time was, “Don’t blame me, I’m from Massachusetts”

Obama is already on thin ice with the electorate because he’s turned off the vast majority of the people he needs to win election and many, who aren’t completely turned off, consider him incompetent. As he goes about dividing the rest of the country he fails to recognize that his division is, those who will vote for him versus those who won’t.

People aren’t stupid, they see George Soros and other rich fat cats supporting Obama and know there are numerous under-handed financial dealings going on, Obama is, after all, a Democrat. You don’t get a billion dollars to run a campaign and then go out and attack a couple of guys trying to help Republicans catch up, people aren’t stupid. So this tactic is going to divide the people and he’ll have less votes because he’s throwing more potential voters, either into the Republican ranks or into the couch potato ranks, where they’ll sit out and not vote for him again. I know many, many people, who voted for Obama in 2008 who will not this time. Whether they’ll vote for the Republican or not is a different story, but they really don’t want to see him re-elected.

Orwell did not invent the term “two minutes hate”; it was already in use in the First World War.[1] At that time, British writers satirised the German campaign of hatred against the English, and imagined a Prussian family sitting around the kitchen table having its “morning hate”.[2]

In addition, short daily artillery bombardments made by either side during the First World War, and aimed at disrupting enemy routines, were known as “hates“:

The evening of this same inspection was one of the few occasions on which Pommier was bombarded. A sudden two minutes’ ‘hate’ of about 40 shells, 4.2 and 5.9, wounded three men and killed both the C.O.’s horses, ‘Silvertail’ and ‘Baby’

Yes, OF COURSE that’s the motive: to intimidate and frighten people off, to affect public confidence, to threaten.

This is on the evening hour after Obama’s had the IRS send out those demand letters to Tea Party groups, “demanding” they name names and otherwise identify by individuals who and what their structures are (such as they are in reality, not that formal).

It’s not within IRS authority by law to make such demands so, obviously, that’s another effort to intimidate, weaken, scare people off to disassociate with Tea Party protests and events and orgs.

Same thing is happening here. I see Senator Schumer behind this, that creepy b*****d. Trying to scare the simple folks on the Right, trying to discourage public perception of Tea Party as decent and good as it is in realiity, trying to foment the Left: the DNC-way.

Yes, Obama SHOULD be held accountable on all of that and he should release that information (aside from anything from the Koch Brothers, too).

Obama’s been asked to release all of that by the American public, he’s refused, he rushed (first act in the Presidency) to render all of that information “off limits” to the American public (reasons for the secrecy remain undisclosed, too).

He continues to ignore the American public. I think we should all NOT continue to ignore Obama but to demand the release of that information.

The Koch Brothers, I hope, kick his arse.

First time that happened, I dismissed it as coincidence. Second time, again, coincidence. After the third-and more, I stopped dismissing it.

Obama seems to enjoy engaging in some sort of word-negativity with Conservatives/Republicans, using their statements and then reworking their views into something he claims the opposite of by ridiculing the original. Heard him do this now many times.

Intel Exclusive: Trillion Dollar Terror Exposed

On February 16, 2012, Lord James of Blackheath, member of Britain’s House of Lords presented evidence of an illegal scheme begun, he has thus discovered, in 2009.  His documents including originals signed by Alan Greenspan and Timothy Geithner, show the illegal “off the books” transfer by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York of $15 trillion to, initially, HSBC (Hong Kong Shanghai Banking Corporation) London and then to the Bank of Scotland.
The Bank of Scotland, under royal charter but restricted from involvement in any such transactions, simply “gave” the money to 20 European banks to use in a highly profitable scheme of co-trading “fresh cut” MTN’s (mid-term notes), generating trillions of dollars in profits over 3 years, none of which is shown on books, none has been taxed or has benefited shareholders in those banks.

years ago, like, say, decades ago, I was audited and when I responded and the whole thing was over, THE IRS OWED ME MONEY (and they paid it).

It was a sweeet resolution, but certainly a fearful one. Any federal agency can pretty well do whatever they want to anyone and you have to have a lot of resources and energy (and resilience) to contend with their demands, but they can destroy individuals at will and have (Stossel story the other night about the couple who have been ruined by the EPA about the EPA’s phony “wetlands” charge).

And I was never in any protest-group of anything. But they DO follow webs, or, that is, they seem to ‘attack’ people in some sort of ladder effect whether you actually know or are affiliated with them or not.

We’d have “AMERICA HELD AT GUNPOINT,… DAY 934″.. but these miserable little snots say nothing, when the right party is dirty..

If there are no mass prosecutions when Obama goes, there is no justice left in America.

Hey AP,

The template isn’t the Chamber, but Prop 8 in Cali. The left wants to take that strategy national.

Obama campaign manager to Koch brothers: Disclose your donors

This just isn’t right! And by “right”, I mean there’s no Constitutional reference that encroaches on the right of privacy in disclosing a political preference. Or, is the Obama administration still making new laws by executive fiat? Note to the Constitutional Scholar: “Read the text a$$hole”— it’s your sworn duty to preserve, protect, and defend it!, (not make it up as you go along):

I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.

Obama campaign manager to Koch brothers: Disclose your donors

What’s being overlooked in all of this is how completeley OBSCENE it is for a sitting president, or his campaign, to be engaging with a non-media private citizen in this way. I don’t believe I’ve ever seen anything like this before. But then this administration has treated us all to so many firsts these last three years.

“Disclose your donors?” Is he kidding???!! Why? So you can unleash the full force of the Justice Department and the IRS on them?

Tomolena1 on February 29, 2012 at 11:29 PM

The best way to demagogue would be to do it to someone like Ed Whitacre, who Obama asked to take over General Motors when they went bankrupt.

I don’t know if he’s a Republican or Democratic, but it would be good to puncture anyone who agrees to cooperate with this administration’s loser schemes. Make people afraid to work with or support Obama openly.

Use Whitacre as an example. Destroy his reputation just to let people know what will happen if they cooperate with Obama. That is exactly what the Democratics do, and have been doing for decades.

jaime on February 29, 2012 at 11:34 PM

You don’t get a billion dollars to run a campaign and then go out and attack a couple of guys trying to help Republicans catch up, people aren’t stupid. So this tactic is going to divide the people and he’ll have less votes because he’s throwing more potential voters, either into the Republican ranks or into the couch potato ranks, where they’ll sit out and not vote for him again. I know many, many people, who voted for Obama in 2008 who will not this time.

bflat879 on February 29, 2012 at 10:30 PM

Have to disagree there bflat. Obama is counting on “STUPID PEOPLE” even more this time than last. And to make things worst, (for us), he starts the fight with about 43% of the vote. He has a guaranteed 33% from white guilted liberals, tree-huggers, ex-con’s, Jews and the recently deceased. He get’s another 10% from Blacks and Mexicans. However, they are very worried about the Black Vote this time. Polls are starting to show that he will only get 93% of the Black vote this time. With only a 7% spread to cover he will have a good chance of being aroung to finish the destruction of a once great Super Power.

The Koch’s total donations are a tiny fraction of the amount given to just one of the main leftist orgs. It’s a total ruse to divert attention.

Leftists don’t give a dam-n for the truth.

The Koch Brothers should respond by releasing to World Net Daily, the doctored Jpeg images of the Birth Certificates of their donors.

How about the criminal scumbags in the Obama campaign reveal how many ILLEGAL FOREIGN contributions they accepted during the ’08 campaign, and explain why the verification application on their campaign website that was supposed to block ILLEGAL FOREIGN campaign donations was turned off after the Brandenberg speech?

I’ve been trying to tell the AFP folks, and the Koch Bros., that if they really want to change the outcome of the elections they need to unite conservatives in the endeavor of actually getting involved INSIDE the Republican Party. If conservative Americans want to “take over” the government, then they have to UNITE inside a political party, and the BEST party, obviously, for conservatives to unite within is the Republican Party. “Within” means becoming precinct committeemen: the ONLY way to do “take over” the Republican Party is to have conservatives fill up all of the vacant precinct committeeman slots at the neighborhood, precinct level.

There’s plenty of room: about half of these slots are currently vacant and about one third of the precincts in America have not even one Republican precinct committeeman. It’s easy and fun to become one. Currently, it’s estimated there’s about 400,000 slots nationwide. Only about 200,000 are filled. They are split, on average, about 50-50 between conservatives and moderates. What would happen if we conservatives filled up all the vacancies? Do the simple math: that 50-50 split gets transformed into a 75-25 split in favor of conservatives. Now conservatives would be in a position to: elect the party officers. Vote to give Party endorsements to conservatives in the primaries. Rewrite bad bylaws. Strengthen the state and national party platforms. Change the primary rules. And have double the capacity at the precinct level to help Get Out The Vote in the all-important, traditionally-very-low-turnout primary elections for the CONSERVATIVE candidates. We need to stop talking and typing and get our fannies to our local Republican Party committee meetings — that’s where the real ball game of politics gets played. And, as I said, it’s fun to boot!

Yeah – I was just thinking about this earlier this week. I got a bad feeling where all of this ends up. I think that we all may be making our stand with our first amendment rights – and we don’t even know it.

CycloneCDB on March 1, 2012 at 1:29 AM

I’d like them to prove it. So I wrote back, challenging the Koch brothers—the same guys who recently called the 2012 election “the mother of all wars”—to disclose for the public exactly who’s behind the millions of dollars they’re spending on attack ads.

Uh….The Koch Brothers.

unclesmrgol on March 1, 2012 at 1:43 AM

I’d like a list of all the names, addresses, phone numbers, current employers, tax returns, and radical affiliations of ALL of obama’s donors from both the 2008 and this election.

If he did that, I’d urge Koch to supply donor names and amounts.

I’ll be as fair with obama as he was honest with us.

Wolfmoon on March 1, 2012 at 1:46 AM

It’s about targets. Bush/Cheney were gone, large majorities in both Chambers, not even governors to focus on. You must aim the mobs, lest they turn on you. Feeding frenzy. The tea partiers started to make some waves. Glenn Beck began to rise. Trying to counteract friendly pro-Americans isn’t easy. Beck led to the focus on FNC as a target and they wanted to basically erase them.

But, they needed rich folks because the narrative is Repubs are old rich white men, usually racist and always buying policy for greedy capitalism. If you’ll notice the focus on Kochs are a metaphor for the lack of what they wanted to find; there would have been more big dogs outed if there were more.

I read something the other day that’s interesting. Basically it breaks this Admin down into race-based socialism, such that “capitalism is racist and therefore socialism is needed to become non-racist”. All the folks Obama has put in are racialists, and the ones he was unable to put in but wanted to. Every event he spoke up about involed race or ethnicity. Every statistic they use regards “disparate impact” to non-whites. That would seem to me to be my final interpretation of this President.
