Video: The Con Artist

posted at 11:00 am on February 27, 2012 by Ed Morrissey

Last night, as expected, the Academy Award went to The Artist, a modern silent film that had gotten plenty of Oscar buzz from the moment it hit the screens.  Raising Red, a conservative group, showed great prescience and demonstrates an acerbic wit in their parody The Con Artist, which features the broken promises of a political leading man who broke hearts around the country when he failed to deliver:

The Daily Caller describes it for those who can’t play it at the moment:

“President Barack Obama was the brightest star in Washington,” begins the political ad, which comes complete with 1920s swing music and silent movie titles showing the promises President Obama made during his presidential campaign and his first months in office, like cutting the deficit.

“But all that changed when, one day, his broken promises caught up with him,” the narrator continues, attacking the president for “breaking the hearts” and “trust” of Americans.

“That’s why audiences across America are calling Obama ‘The Con Artist,’” the ad goes on, citing rising gas prices, the rising debt and the president’s decision not to sign the bill allowing the construction of the Keystone XL Pipeline.

“The Con Artist: We can’t afford a sequel,” says the final frame of the ad.

This is one movie that I’d like to see again and again — and like Act of Valor, one I’m sure won’t be winning any Oscars next year.

Does the MSM win the award?

KOOLAID2 on February 27, 2012 at 11:06 AM

That is very well done. @1:11 “the worst picture of America, that made me laugh!

Mord on February 27, 2012 at 11:06 AM

…and it was Obama that made it a black and white film. Nobody else.

RBMN on February 27, 2012 at 11:07 AM

Republicans are funny now? E-e-e-e-excellent. Good ad.

The head bump at the 1:00 minute mark is choice.

princetrumpet on February 27, 2012 at 11:07 AM

If the MSM had their way it would be like Rocky IV anf Rocky V!

KOOLAID2 on February 27, 2012 at 11:07 AM

…. which features the broken promises of a political leading man who broke hearts around the country when he failed to deliver

Please, this is naive on your part.

Those who voted (and still will be voting) for Obama knew the con artist made empty promises from the get-go. They just want the gravy train to continue to go on.

Since Obama took office, did the gravy train stop, by any of the president’s doing (I won’t digify by saying his work effot)?

So how is it ‘he failed to deliver’?

This is one movie that I’d like to see again and again

I’d prefer the movie be put in the ashheap of history come January 20, 2013, so we never have to see it ever again.

Love the little clip near the end where he looks like he’s picking his nose.

Could we get the effect of a silent movie to kick in whenever Obama gives a speech or one of his campaign ads run? I’m so tired of hearing his voice.

Love the idea but how can you work that into the plot considering that the Keystone Cops are headed up by Eric Holder and the incompetent and partisan Department of Justice?

I think we’ll be seeing that between now and November. Beware.

My cat doesn’t like the nose picker in chief, either. Too bad they can’t afford to make a full length movie of his life and times.

I think they’ll keep playing The Con Artist until November. If he loses then The Wrath of Con only gets two months, but God help us, if he wins then the sequel plays for four years.

Flange on February 27, 2012 at 11:49 AM

Where’s the dog? Even he wants no part of this film.

rjulio on February 27, 2012 at 11:54 AM

Love the ad, nice compilation of clips (including the smartest man in the world bumping his head entering Marine One)…BUT

…it should probably not have included the clip of him wiping a tear (right before the nose picking clip), as that was from the funeral service of a civil rights leader who was near and dear to Obama. It seems like a cheap shot to tap that, which was one of the rare moments President Spock displayed a mournful emotion publicly (remembering, of course, his all-important smiling “shout outs” at a public speech before even acknowledging the Fort Hood shootings).

Like GOP candidate ads that naively neglect to get permission to use popular songs by artists who then make it an issue and demand the ads be pulled or struck, I’d hate to see this brief snippet become the issue, rather than the overall message of the ad.

They need to have a shot of long lines at the unemployment office, similar to the “run on the bank” scene of “It’s a Wonderful Life”.

Somebody save us from Potterville Obamaville in New Bedford Bedlam.

Steve Z on February 27, 2012 at 12:17 PM

Too bad all those funny people at SNL and Comedy Central didn’t have the talent to come up with something so obvious and so funny.

This is how you attack Obama. His grandiosity, giant ego, arrogance and big mouth are ripe targets for the ridicule and derision he so well deserves. The media covers for him and the so-called comedians aren’t even touching him, which makes this fertile ground.

Attacking Obama in this manner reduces him to being the punchline of a huge, bad joke that’s been played on America, so that when it comes time to vote no one will want to vote for him, and those that do will be mocked and scorned for voting for such a failing loser.

OxyCon on February 27, 2012 at 12:22 PM
