Jesse Jackson: It’s an honor to be a food-stamp president

posted at 5:25 pm on February 27, 2012 by Tina Korbe

Pretty much from the minute Newt Gingrich branded President Barack Obama “the best food-stamp president in American history,” I’ve wondered why liberals didn’t immediately tout that statement as a compliment. Government spending on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program has doubled just since 2008 and more than 10 million people have been added to the food stamp rolls — but isn’t that a positive in the liberal worldview? Ten million more beholden to government and likelier to vote for the continuation of the welfare state? What’s so bad about that for politicians who want to continue to preside over that welfare state?

‘Course, they couldn’t acknowledge that as the true motivation for their satisfaction with the swelling of SNAP, but they could still spin Gingrich’s statement as a sign that the president is doing something right. I’ve outlined an idea for such spin in the past:

Strictly speaking, the term “food stamp president” doesn’t include a value judgment. A person could apply the label to the president without automatically meaning it is a negativefact that food stamp enrollment has increased under Obama’s watch. Increased enrollment could actually be an argument that the food stamp program is effective, that it’s flexible and responsive enough to meet the increased needs of out-of-work new enrollees during a down economy.

Guess Jesse Jackson had the same idea (h/t NewsBusters and Greg Hengler):

Those comments represent a reversal of sentiment for Mr. Jackson, who initially accused Gingrich of “name calling” for pointing out the facts about the president’s food stamp record. Jackson also misses some crucial facts about what leads to human flourishing (hint: it’s not handouts!). But at least his remarks represent an attempt to stand by liberal policies; I’ve actually gotta hand it to him for that.

You see, back then it was name calling, but now, its a badge of honor. I know I know…its hard to keep up with these fellers.

Isn’t It Ironic? The food stamp program, part of the Department of

Meanwhile, the Park Service, also part of the Department of Agriculture,

Electrongod on February 27, 2012 at 5:41 PM

Hey, Jesse.

If food stamps are so great, why has the name and format been changed to an Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) Card? Wasn’t this done to reduce the stigma attached to having to count out the stamps at the checkout counter? Oh yeah, that’s right. It was to streamline to system, cause gubmint is all about efficiency.

Oh yeah, unlike food stamps, EBT has been used for cash allowances through ATMs at casinos, liquor stores and strip clubs. Efforts are now being made to stop this, but only because the knowledge was made public.

No animal brays louder than Jesse Jackass, the Windy City’s Windiest Windbag. In the 60′s When Jesse first arrived in Chicago, he went to Mayor Daley (the elder) expecting to be welcomed into the Daley crime family as a serious player. Instead, Daley told him that if he worked a black precinct for the Democrats, he’d get him a job in a toll booth collecting quarters. (A hunnert a day and all you can steal!)

Ever since, Jesse has used his Race Card to try to jimmy the doors of Power and gain some credibility. Mike Royko called him “Jesse Jetstream” because he quickly rushed from one crisis or another, desperate for someone to take him seriously.

Get back under the covered bridge, Jesse.

If food stamps are so great, then why not double the amount of benefits while removing the financial requirements of near-indigence to qualify for them?

Likewise, if unemployment is so great at stimulating the economy then, again, why not double or even triple the amount of benefits so people could get a living wage, then remove the job-hunting requirements for the unemployed and let all the employed quit their jobs and so everybody can have a permanent vacation from work.

These two policies ideas would get us outta debt lickety-split.

BTW, is this one of those things Obama talks differently about these days?

Liberals/leftists/marxists love poverty. They get to control people with handouts. This is what Obama’s boy Emanuel thinks about Chicago’s school kids.

Lewis said she got her answer about Emanuel’s character rather quickly.

“In that conversation he did say to me that 25 percent of the students in this city are never going to be anything, never going to amount to anything and he was never going to throw money at them.”

Emotions and wishful thinking have never substituted for comprehension of real life. Someday you may come to grasp that as a concept.

That’s why liberals immediately brand as racist anyone who points this out – they can’t say it’s a bad thing, that they want things to get better so fewer are on govt assistance. To them this is an accomplishment.

Remember when GWB was President, and when fewer people were on food stamps the govt agency began advertising for people to receive help? They can’t very well swell the size of their bureaucracy when fewer people are on the dole. Nothing else matters to them.
