Hot Air Survey Results: Pre-Michigan and Arizona

posted at 8:55 pm on February 27, 2012 by Patrick Ishmael

Rick Santorum continues to lead a field which has tightened a bit since the last survey. Mitt Romney returns to second place, followed by Newt Gingrich, with Ron Paul far behind. The voter landscape is not that different from what we saw Pre-Florida, with Gingrich and Santorum swapping places in a race where the top three have bunched up at the top.

Marco Rubio continues to lead the VP ballot by a wide margin, garnering more support than the next four candidates combined. Also worth noting: Readers, regardless of their own preferred nominee, believe that Romney will win in Michigan, and two-thirds believe he will win in Arizona. A majority also thinks he’ll eventually be the nominee.

Lastly: Lawn Gnome Reagan would decimate SMOD and Celery in a three-way race. That SMOD finished so closely to the green candidate should give SMOD supporters pause. Will their candidate even make it through to the convention, or will SMOD crash and burn long before?

So basically, Romney will be the nominee and the majority of Republicans don’t like him. I’d say it looks scientifically highly accurate.

Romney lie of the day…

Mitt Romney couldn’t have remembered Detroit milestone: he wasn’t born

When Mitt Romney regaled a Michigan audience this week with childhood memories of a landmark moment in Detroit history, it was a rare instance of emotional candour.

And, perhaps, an even rarer example of time travel.

Romney recalled he was “probably 4 or something like that” the day of the Golden Jubilee, when three-quarters of a million people gathered to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the American automobile.

“My dad had a job being the grandmaster. They painted Woodward Ave. with gold paint,” Romney told a rapt Tea Party audience in the village of Milford Thursday night, reliving a moment of American industrial glory.

The Golden Jubilee described so vividly by Romney was indeed an epic moment in automotive lore. The parade included one of the last public appearances by an elderly Henry Ford.

And it took place June 1, 1946 — fully nine months before Romney was born…..

My take -

Like I said previously, let Romney be the nominee. Then
we pretty much ignore him until the general where we get behind
him and vote. We don’t need to listen to him, attend his townhalls, fundraisers to eat chicken or fund him; he
can self fund and get the big donor contributions. Think of all the money we will save!!! Its a good thing. Then ALL republicans need to go out and vote for him for whatever reason one can conjure up in the quest to defeat Obama.

We little people in the heartland and elsewhere spend our time
and money electing conservatives for the house and senate. There
may be some governors out there we can tune into as well. Pay attention to your local elections. That is where many of our
“leaders” start out. Find the conservatives and get them elected.

Palin and Gingrich can lead the fight to get a more
conservative agenda in place, one that we know Romney wouldn’t ever do on his own. The two of them can lead the charge to
defeat Obamacare, reform our energy policy, reign in the EPA,
reign in the teacher union, entitlement reform, union reform,
handle the illegal problem, balance the budget, a plan to pay
down the debt, etc. etc. Romney will take the credit as Clinton
did when Gingrich led the charge to reform in the 90′s. Whatever.
At least our country will be in much better shape.

There should be two Hotairs: Hotair Classic, and Hotair Salem.

Hotair Classic will have stories like Japanese Gameshows, humping robots, and small government libertarian-style clips from ReasonTV. The original Hotair.

Then Hotair Salem will be exclusively abortion, birth control, Sarah Palin’s latest blurb, and big government compassionate conservatism – 24/7 with the requisite attack on Planned Parenthood and PETA. This is where Evangelicals and Catholics can argue over who is saved and who might be in for a nasty surprise. (But Muslims and atheists are for sure screwed. Jews . . . nobody really can say. Post-mortem conversions are tricky. )

The reason for the segregation: Adsense ads. More focused marketing. Hotair Classic will have ads for razors, Snicker’s bars, and Peter’s Schiff’s latest book. And a reminder to Buy gold now. Hotair Salem will have ads for doomsday shelters, holy water, and bible college.

I especially found the graph of all the past surveys interesting. Looking at all the lines above 30% who eventually went down in the polls. One conservative after another. Palin, Perry, Cain, Newt.

While these aren’t scientific, I’ve noticed that (for good or for bad) they are often ahead of the curve. Which is why Santorum’s little dip down bothers me.

The good thing is that each of those mentioned went down and then had a second rise. I think Santorum might have timing behind him in this primary. He seems to peak at good times. (Maybe the timing is God’s will – lol – couldn’t resist that.)

Here’s hoping.

This ? “Palin 59% Christie 41%” why hide it?

the_nile on February 27, 2012 at 9:24 PM
Ann Coulter might see it, and who knows what might happen?

idesign on February 27, 2012 at 9:28 PM

Thank you, Bmore!

I predict Romney gets the nomination, then loses to Obama because there’s so little difference between the two jackazzes that people decide to play World of Warcraft instead of wasting the gas on a vote between progressive A or progressive B.

Wolfmoon on February 27, 2012 at 11:01 PM

wolfmoon is pessimist A and B :(

DHChron on February 27, 2012 at 11:23 PM

Hey, at least Gov. Romney beats Newt now. Progress?

Cindy Munford on February 27, 2012 at 11:28 PM

go newton!

DHChron on February 27, 2012 at 11:37 PM

Hey Patrick,
Did Ed charge you more space for the survey that you had to put the results in your tweets? How about showing them here.

Christian Conservative on February 28, 2012 at 12:00 AM

The fact that he is still hanging in is an indictment of the Romney campaign

liberal4life on February 27, 2012 at 9:40 PM

The Romney campaign is an indictment of the Romney campaign.

Patrick, you should have put in why people think Romney will be the nominee even if he is not their preferred candidate. Like in my case I figure Romney will be the nominee because the GOP establishment already has their minds set on him and will do anything to put him there.
I still wonder about that little incident in Iowa where they were already claiming Romney as the winner of that state before it turned out that Santorum had actually won it, weeks later, thereby increasing Romney’s momentum out of the starting gate, while slowing Santorum’s.

Sterling Holobyte on February 28, 2012 at 1:11 AM

Why are people so negative about a poll done for fun?

philoquin on February 27, 2012 at 9:34 PM

Sour grapes that their candidate isn’t winning it.

I don’t think HA was really for Bachmann. Swish.

philoquin on February 27, 2012 at 9:39 PM

HA correctly guessed that Bachmann was a stalking horse for Romney. She had some supporters but she was never a “Not Romney.” The “Not Romneys” were Palin, then Perry, then Cain, then Gingrich #1, then Gingrich #2, and then Santorum currently.

Doomberg on February 28, 2012 at 1:26 AM

Only that the favorites of the Hot Air crowd never end up winning.

JA on February 27, 2012 at 9:02 PM

Hot Air never gets it right. Thank goodness.

scotash on February 28, 2012 at 3:23 AM

I have voted for Mitt in every one of these surveys. He never comes close to winning.

gerrym51 on February 27, 2012 at 9:14 PM

I have voted for the flavor of the month every time, just to pump up their totals and give false confidence to their fan clubs :-)

MJBrutus on February 28, 2012 at 5:04 AM

Useless eh? Okey doke.

Patrick Ishmael on February 27, 2012 at 9:19 PM

Well they do have entertainment value :-)

MJBrutus on February 28, 2012 at 5:06 AM

Yes, yes, it is a poll of logged-in HA readers.
As the results indicate however, a majority of said readers have a feeling, bad or otherwise, that Romney will be the eventual nominee.

What it comes to to, given this field of candidates, Mittens would probably lose by a smaller margin than the others. A brokered convention with a late dark-horse entry is the best we can hope for.
Draft the combo of Rick Perry and John Bolton!

Meanwhile, I’m off to vote pretty soon. Saint Rick will get our votes only to keep Mittens off kilter. No more ‘It’s My Turn’ candidates.

Useless eh? Okey doke.

Patrick Ishmael on February 27, 2012 at 9:19 PM

Yeah. Pretty much. You’ve based many of these polls on false either/or choices. It’s an attempt to manipulate the results, even if you don’t realize it. Always include none of the above or other as a choice.
