Poll: What was the Obamateurism of the Week?

posted at 9:00 am on February 26, 2012 by Ed Morrissey

Time once more to pick the Obamateurism of the Week — and this will be a tough sale, even if the choices are on clearance markdown.  Our purpose is to make the right choice, which sometimes means seeing where the sharks are circling most — and sometimes to where President Obama keeps signaling to them, too.

Previous weekly “winners” in 2012:

  • Emphasizes graduation rates in SOTU, cuts DC voucher program that nearly doubled grad rates
  • “Well, it turns out our Founders designed a system that makes it more difficult to bring about change that I would like sometimes.”
  • Finds claim of unemployment “interesting” because he is getting “the word” that woman’s husband should have no trouble finding work
  • Hails Roe as essential to allow “our daughters … to fulfill their dreams
  • Shuts down DisneyWorld in order to promote tourism
  • “He didn’t want to take pictures with any more soldiers; he was complaining about it[.]
  • Famous opponent of signing statements issues one covering 17 provisions of bill he signed

Previous Obamateurisms of the Year:

  • Giving 2 minutes of “shout-outs” before getting to the Fort Hood shooting (2009)
  • Obama leaves Clinton at press conference podium on tax deal to attend Christmas party (2010)
  • “I would put our legislative and foreign policy accomplishments in our first two years against any president— with the possible exceptions of Johnson, F.D.R., and Lincoln.” (2011)

Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at obamaisms@edmorrissey.com with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.

Impossible to choose. The man is a hypocrite and a serial liar, as are all ideologues, and yet he stands a good chance of reelection. Unbelievable and very depressing.

Huckleberry Mike on February 26, 2012 at 9:07 AM

I went with Memorial Day mishap…. I mean, come on, your the head dog in the US at least know what things like this stands for…getting the two mixed up not once..

This guy disgust me. How any true American Liberal or Republican can even support this fool who knows nothing like this makes me wonder if they love this country.

My close second would be the Boeing plant. This guy is a clown.

watertown on February 26, 2012 at 9:11 AM

And Boeing it is.
King Barack the Growth Slayer has not one whit of perception re: how comical he appears.

WH website still has “cut deficit in half by end of 1st term” pledge up even after Obama budget fails to do so.

He used this to get Independents to vote for him – it’s great that the webmaster is reminding Independents of the huge fail.

Independents turned out for Obama in 2008 because they bought his fiscal hawk rhetoric that’s not going to happen again his record shows he’s nothing more than a big tax and spending liberal.

Dr Evil on February 26, 2012 at 9:13 AM

I went with the Memorial day/Veteran day gaff…yet again. Of all people, the POTUS should know the difference.

This “Proud Army Mom”, can’t express how much I loathe this man. :(

tencole on February 26, 2012 at 9:14 AM

It was a tossup between Boeing and deficit cut in half for me, I simply used a random number generator to make my pick. We need an all of the above choice.

JimK on February 26, 2012 at 9:17 AM

The Boeing thing – he’s so lazy and stupid he doesn’t even see how dumb that was.

CorporatePiggy on February 26, 2012 at 9:21 AM

Okay, it’s number 1…..no wait…..number 3……no wait…..number 5…..no wait…..number…..um um aw shoot. This is getting sooooo hard to decide. Enee meenee minee mo…..number 5. Yeah, that should do it. Phew.

tough choices again but I’ll take “You can ban your shark and eat it too!”

Memorial Day

Twice?!? What a magnificent staff he has gathered!

TRULY AN AMATEUR!!

FOWG1 on February 26, 2012 at 9:25 AM

Went with SC snafu. We saw Act of Valor last night, the house was packed! Of course Barky doesn’t get Memorial Day. The US military is everything he will never be: principled, brave and self-sacrificing.

indyvet on February 26, 2012 at 9:28 AM

I chose the Memorial Day gaffe. His repeated failure to respect the sacrifices of those who serve and lay down their lives reflects the rotten and hollow core of the man.

Got no gripe with those who choose the in-your-face dishonesty of the Boeing plant hypocrisy. This Emperor wears his new clothes proudly and with full knowledge of his nakedness, secure in the belief that people are so stupid and suggestible they will simply believe any lie they are told, even if they lived through the truth just a short time ago.

so did we. Loved it. BTW, it is looking like it is going to be #1 for the weekend.

ted c on February 26, 2012 at 9:30 AM

As usual all of them are cringe worthy and not Presidential at all. Had to go with Boeing because………., but I had to laugh at the dinner. It has been reported that even at fundraising dinners the man will not stay and eat dinner. He does his creepy speech thing and he is outta there. Are all Marxists this weird and unsociable? Remember his leaving Bibi in the middle of a meeting and going off to eat leaving Bibi and company to find their way out of the WH by themselves? This man is his own psychological case study.

BetseyRoss on February 26, 2012 at 9:33 AM

Lanceman on February 26, 2012 at 9:42 AM

Between the outstanding work of ITGuy and Baxter Green, who provide documented evidence of Obama’s destructive policies and decisions on a variety of ares, I add the summation of poster Marguerite at freerepublic:

A Summary of Obama’s actions on energy policy since January 2009:

• February 4, 2009 – Just months after Obama’s Energy Secretary said, “Somehow we have to figure out how to boost the price of gasoline to the levels in Europe,” the Regime begins “scrapping leases for oil-shale development” and cancels 77 leases for oil and gas production in Utah.
Gas is $1.91 a gallon.

• March 7, 2009 – ABC News says the White House is “closely
monitoring” the expedited Solyndra loan project even as it was delaying new American energy production that would help make us less dependent on foreign energy.
Gas is $1.94 a gallon.

• June 27, 2009 – Obama urges the Senate to adopt House Democrats’ “cap and trade” national energy tax – the same plan O once admitted would cause electricity rates to “necessarily skyrocket.”
Gas is $2.50 a gallon.

• January 7, 2010 – The Regime announces new bureaucratic hurdles to American energy production that Secretary Salazar admitted “could add delays to the leasing and drilling process.”
Gas is $2.67 a gallon.

• March 31, 2010 – Instead of opening new areas to energy exploration and development, Obama blocks deep-ocean energy production on 60% of America’s Outer Continental Shelf.
Gas is $2.80 a gallon.

•December 1, 2010 – Obama re-imposes and expands the moratorium on offshore energy production.
Gas is $2.86 a gallon.

• January 2, 2011 – TIME
reports that the Obama Regime issued the first in a series of regulations designed to unilaterally impose a national energy tax.
Gas is $3.05 a gallon.

• May 5, 2011 – The Regime issues a formal statement opposing House-passed Restarting American Offshore Leasing Now Act (H.R. 1230), and Putting the Gulf of Mexico Back to Work Act (H.R. 1229) legislation designed to jumpstart American energy production, address rising gas prices, and help create new jobs.
Gas is $3.96 a gallon.

• June 21, 2011 – The Regime opposes the House-passed Jobs & Energy Permitting Act that would unlock an estimated 27 billion barrels of oil and 132 trillion cubic feet of natural gas.
Gas is $3.65 a gallon.

• November 8, 2011 – The Regime releases a plan for a five-year moratorium on offshore energy production, placing “some of the most promising energy resources in the world off-limits,” according to the House Natural Resources Committee.
Gas is $3.42 a gallon.

•January 18, 2012 – Obama rejects the bipartisan Keystone XL pipeline and the more than 20,000 jobs that would come with it.
Gas is $3.39 a gallon.

• February 24, 2012 – Average price of gas: $3.64

The ONLY place the democrats want to drill is the wallets of the American people.

true. Ed had a thread up yesterday, maybe another after it takes #1 tomorrow? Bravery and humility are rare in Hollywood because they’re absent in Hollywood, aside from guys like Gary Sinise. The left/liberals pan movies like this because their “males” cannot produce men such as these. They only have the soft handed, metrosexuals steeped in diversity for diversity’s sake. They know that red blooded, ass kicking males are want a)America wants and b) women too :)

I went with the website deficit because it demonstrates what we see over and over – Owebama’s words and actions are totally different and yet the adoring masses don’t seem to notice.

But this was by far the most difficult poll yet for me. 2 through 5 all deserved a vote.

katablog.com on February 26, 2012 at 10:01 AM

Can’t wait for next week when we discuss the Afgan apologies for having burned the desecrated Korans.

Del Dolemonte on February 26, 2012 at 10:06 AM

I would have included his derisive mock of drilling as a solution to our gas crisis in the list this week. Each day, I come to detest this man just a little bit more than the day before.

Mutnodjmet on February 26, 2012 at 10:09 AM

That one was difficult. I had a hard time choosing between the Memorial day mix up (again), Boeing, and cutting the budget. I went with Boeing. So like him to take credit for something he tried to destroy.

I picked the markdown . . . not so much because it’s a screw-up but because it’s so funny, yet pathetic. The most powerful person on the face of the earth slashing prices for the privilege of eating a crappy lunch with him, the pitiful proceeds from which to fatten up his reelection campaign coffers. Coupled with the “swag” on sale at the campaign website, highlighted by such memorabilia as the Joe Biden “Champ” koozie, has there ever been a campaign run as “low-rent” as this one? I thought the Chicago Thugocracy had more class than this. They have the nerve, the “audacity”, to laugh at Bush as a hick?

I propose that a default option for the OOTW be included in each poll.

“Obama refuses to admit he is unqualified for the office, and does not resign”

The Boeing plant snafu just shows that he is a lying scumbag. But not knowing the difference between Memorial Day and Veteran’s Day clearly demonstrates that he has absolutely no business being CIC. tsj017 on February 26, 2012 at 5:51 PM

Apparently not important to most folks, but failing to understand a basic bit of national history and purpose like Memorial Day is the winner in truth, if not in the poll. While the shark fin soup gaffe and not removing an already failed pledge from the campaign website are indeed amateurish, there is very little “there” there, compared to flubbing American History in public.

The Boeing plant event and the dinner lottery are just this administration continuing to double down on what they believe will work for them.

Freelancer on February 27, 2012 at 1:22 AM

I don’t think the term amateur applies anymore. He’s a professional f*ck-up across the board.

infidel4life on February 27, 2012 at 1:49 AM

The dollar-day markdown is not an the work of an amateur. His campaign staff are pros (except for when they’re eating the shark): having picked the low-hanging fruit at full-price, they are now shaking the tree.

The other three examples are not the gaffes they look like either: his supporters don’t care if he gets war-stuff wrong and they don’t know he is prevaricating about the economic things – and the ones who do know, won’t question any lies.
