NARN, the Pond Scum is Suddenly Hip Edition!

posted at 1:00 pm on February 25, 2012 by Ed Morrissey

The Northern Alliance Radio Network will be on the air today, with your hosts Mitch Berg and Ed Morrissey, on from 1-3 CT with live streaming video and chat. If you’re in the Twin Cities, you can hear us on AM 1280 The Patriot, or on the station’s Internet stream if you’re outside of the broadcast area, as well as right here on on the permanent Ed Morrissey Show page at Hot Air.

Today, Mitch and I will discuss the political problems of escalating gas prices, and how Barack Obama plans to use pond scum as his line of defense.  We’ll preview this week’s primaries in Arizona and Michigan, and offer our predictions of the outcome and what it will mean for Republicans.  Did the legislature succeed in allowing Minnesotans to defend themselves more effectively in their own homes?  Join us and find out!

Be sure to call 651-289-4488 to join the conversation, or text us at 651-243-0390! You can also register for free at Ustream to participate in our raucous live-chat sessions. (And if the log-in prompt doesn’t come up in the chat box below, use this link instead.)

Marizela Perez has been missing in the Seattle area for almost a year now. Marizela’s case has a connection here at Hot Air, as she is the cousin of the Boss Emeritus, Michelle Malkin. Michelle is trying to spread the word through Facebook and Q13Fox/KCPQ in Seattle. We want to encourage prayers for Marizela’s family, and also try to reach anyone in the area who knows where Marizela might be and ask them to contact the police.

The search has its own website now, Find Marizela, for the latest in the efforts to bring Marizela home. There is also a fund for the family to keep the search efforts going. Be sure to check there and at Michelle’s site for further developments, and keep the family in your prayers.

America’s Most Wanted is now on the case, too.

Michelle has an update on the case:

The circumstances of our dilemma remain the same. While the case remains open, the Seattle police are for all practical purposes treating it as a closed and shut case. They will not share the information they obtained from the limited Google subpoena — which our family pushed for in the first place. If we had access to that information, we could continue the search for Marizela on our own that the SPD has neither the time, resources, or inclination to pursue.

We have not heard back from Google.

As we’ve noted since the day of her disappearance, she was taking anti-depressants at the time of her disappearance. The daunting possibility that she took her life, and the signs that cannot be ignored, still weighs heavily on our minds — as do all the other frightening possibilities as her case remains unsolved and unresolved. I’ve urged you before to support volunteer groups that provide hope and solace for those in need. To honor Marizela, I ask again that you do so if you are able.

Thank you for all your continued thoughts and prayers.

Keep the prayers coming.

I know our tendency is to laugh at our first GREEN President….but….

MIT/Stanford have nothing on this group in Israel. The alternate fuel research and such is WELL UNDER WAY.

Will it replace Oil and Nat Gas?

The Chinese don’t think so but the Israelis think it’s worth checking out.

…..and there are TONS of videos out on YOUTUBE about these alternate fuels. There is even a guy that runs his car on Water (it was a news report on a Fox station I think it was a few years ago).

All these green power programs are items where Jerry Pournelle’s idea can be put to good use: Offer prizes for successful projects.

It might take some fiddling to get the enabling legislation in place, but then you simply pass a law saying:

“The first person to produce biofuel at the rate of 250 barrels of petroleum equivalent per acre at a total cost no greater than the market price of crude oil (or 1 1/2 times that price, or whatever) shall be awarded a tax-free sum of one billion dollars.”

Or maybe:

“The first person to produce solar at the average rate of one megawatt-hour per acre per day for one year shall be awarded a tax-free sum of five billion dollars.”

Or pick your lofty goal and incentivize it.
The nice thing about prizes is that they cost nothing until the goal is achieved, and only have to be paid to one of however many teams are working on the project.

Wait, even if we started skimming the pond scum today…it would be 10 years before we saw any benefit..

I loved YAHOO NEWS (Associated Press) running the top level headline.

“Obama says no quick fix for gas prices”.

THAT is what he’s been saying for 3 years.

Americans sure are a patient, lazy, stupid bunch to put up with this crap.

It’s a miracle this country has even survived this long.

Now you know why the EPA mandated all those nasty Canadian goose/mosquito attracting drainage swamps be built wherever any construction was built. They will be algae farms. Great idea!
