Tapper to Carney: Admin is “aggressively trying to stop aggressive journalism”

First, just watch the video. Pay special attention to the woman in the horn-rimmed glasses behind Tapper’s left shoulder; her expressions are priceless! She must not be such a fan of aggressive journalism herself:

To review: ABC’s Tapper actually hit the White House with all of these lines:

  • “How does that square with the fact that this administration has been so aggressively trying to stop aggressive journalism in the United States by using the Espionage Act to take whistleblowers to court?”
  • “You want aggressive journalism abroad; you just don’t want it in the United States.”
  • “So the truth should come out abroad; it shouldn’t come out here?”

Jake Tapper specifically mentioned the case of the administration suing a CIA officer for allegedly providing information about CIA torture. I can think of a couple other occasions in which the administration treated whistleblowers unjustifiably harshly and/or refused to cooperate with innocently inquiring journalists. Incidentally, the White House website — touted as such a triumph of transparency — doesn’t even have a link to a form to submit media requests. The most transparently transparent administration ever is also the administration that has stonewalled investigations into Fast and Furious, Solyndra and other real scandals. Conveniently for the administration, the MSM has largely ignored these scandals as well. Not Jake Tapper. Good for him for taking Carney to task.

Probably a prime example of why Stephanopolos was chosen, over Tapper, to be the host of This Week. Tapper is willing to ask the tough questions. You certainly can’t have that in an election year, can you?

bflat879 on February 23, 2012 at 9:05 PM

Well, OK, but leaks from the CIA are not a good case in point. CIA leakers should be hammered. They’re breaking the law. If you disagree with the president’s policy so much, accept the loss of your job, accept the punishment for breaking the law by disclosing what you are lawfully commanded not to, and go public.

If Jake Tapper thinks the federal government should refrain from enforcing the law in order that its employees can undermine presidential policy on national security matters — I can’t go with him there.

“So the truth should come out abroad; it shouldn’t come out here?”

Tapper has a sizable point there (not that he doesn’t in the rest of what he questioned). A great example of this in media can be found in UK’s Daily Mail which carries news that is never available in the US Leftmedia — or which news will be available in the US days or a week later but with Leftmedia attempts to dampen-down the reports.

Most people, I reason, will agree with that, as you state there, but that’s also based upon the assumption that “presidential policy” is sound, reasonable, legitimate, for the good of this nation. Unfortunately, with the current Admin., that’s not the case, at least not consistently. The trust factor isn’t there from my perspective — the critical question has become to trust one’s conscience or to do one’s duty to an Admin. that can’t be trusted.

I support J.E. on this as it pertains to CIA and Defense Dept. employees. Bradley Manning shipping classified info to WikiLeaks is totally unlawful. During the Bush years, there were far too many leaks of intel. I do, however, support whistle-blowing when it pertains to such matters as Fast & Furious.

Definitely looks like her.

Careful, Jake. Wouldn’t want you to disappear one night, never to be seen again.

We have freedom of the press, so long as you watch what you say.

“Christ!, what the hell is the matter with Tapper? Didn’t he get the memo about tough questions? God Almighty, how are we going to keep the idiot electorate bamboozled with this guy around?”

BoKemp on February 24, 2012 at 8:27 AM

As near as I can tell Tapper asks more difficult questions and follow ups, than the rest of those, regurgitators……..ah I mean reporters, combined.

Yeah, I recognized her pretty quick. I think she doesn’t some consulting with Fox News, or at least she has in the past.

Sammo21 on February 24, 2012 at 8:53 AM

Yeah, I recognized her pretty quick. I think she doesn’t some consulting with Fox News, or at least she has in the past.

She is a regular on FOX News (Brett Beir) as one of the ‘All Stars’ panel along w/Charles Krauthammer and a couple of others.

Cherokee on February 24, 2012 at 9:07 AM

I’m pretty sure the eye-rolling chick in the glasses is Maura Liasson, a FOX NEWS contributor and frequently guest on Brett Baer’s news show.

” . . and I would refer you to the Dept. of Justice for . . . more on that.”

HaHaHaHaHaHaHa, yes, that will surely shed some needed light on the matter.

She used to be. But she hasn’t been on nearly as often lately. I wonder why?

When Obama talks to the journalists the questions are set up so the answers are on the prompter before the dog and pony show starts. This is quite evident when an off the cuff question appears and if that happens too often the journalist is not invited to participate in future news briefs. The public has been schooled to believe these cessions are for real and it’s the furthest from the truth. Remember when the woman who asked a question and our President went into a seventeen minute desertion that made the news and how about Joe the plumber asking his question only to have the IRS go after him after the dust settled. Makes me wonder who set that up to happen. One must never ask a question of the President that he thinks is inappropriate.

mixplix on February 24, 2012 at 3:56 PM

The other “journalists” seemed rather bored by Tapper’s assertions.

I guess they just want to hear about Obama’s glistening pectorals more than anything.

Dr. ZhivBlago on February 24, 2012 at 9:28 PM

What is wrong with Carney? He has a job that requires him to come before these reporters on a daily basis and constantly lie to protect this Mutant in the Oval Office. Has he no conscience or is this the only position for which he is qualified? I could never hold a job like that! With the exception of Jake Tapper, all of the other so-called Journalists see nothing wrong in this as they are all Obama Hacks and obviously have no spines!! What a disgusting Administration!!!
