Quotes of the day

“The ombudsman will be charged with increasing awareness of the law regarding civil unions, will provide a clear point of contact for those who have questions or concerns and will be required to report any evidence of the law being violated. In this way, we can ensure equal treatment under the law,” Christie said in a statement.

He asked lawmakers to quit pursuing gay marriage legislation and instead create an ombudsman for civil unions of same-sex couples who would “carry on New Jersey’s strong tradition of tolerance and fairness.”

***

“I’ve been meaning to post on this. Last weekend, at the Los Angeles Times, Harvard Professor Michael Klarman argued that gay marriage is inevitable in the United States. Klarman makes two points: (1) that as more and more people come to know someone who is gay they are reluctant to deprive them of “rights” such as same-sex marriage and (2) that younger Americans are more tolerant of gay marriage and thus the younger demographic cohort will compose a larger, decisive share of the electorate as older, more conservative voters pass from the political scene.”

But one of the things that bothers me even about promoting state-level votes to allow gay marriage is that the radical left gay rights lobby has worked aggressively and viciously to demonize and discredit the democratic process when it comes to same-sex rights. A small but extremely vocal minority has essential flipped James Madison’s fear of tyranny of the majority on its head: now an in-your-face totalitarian gay militia will attack, stalk, berate, threaten, and destroy opponents of same-sex marriage.

***

Christie conditionally vetoed the bill six hours after it reached his desk, a day after the state Assembly gave the final legislative approval that he said he would not support.

“I have been just as adamant that same-sex couples in a civil union deserve the very same rights and benefits enjoyed by married couples — as well as the strict enforcement of those rights and benefits,” Christie said in a prepared statement.

“Discrimination should not be tolerated and any complaint alleging a violation of a citizen’s right should be investigated and, if appropriate, remedied.”

***

“It’s unfortunate that the governor would let his own personal ideology infringe on the rights of thousands of New Jerseyans,” said Reed Gusciora, one of two openly gay New Jersey lawmakers and a sponsor of the bill. “For all those who oppose marriage equality, their lives would have been completely unchanged by this bill, but for same-sex couples, their lives would have been radically transformed. Unfortunately, the governor couldn’t see past his own personal ambitions to honor this truth.”

Senate Democratic leaders were more blunt in their criticism of the governor.

“He had a chance to do the right thing, and failed miserably,” Senate President Steve Sweeney said.

“Don’t be fooled by the governor’s call for a public referendum or his idea of an ombudsman for civil unions — it is nothing more than a political smoke screen designed to cover the tracks of those retreating from their leadership and lawmaking responsibilities,” Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg said.

***

Could Chris Christie be wavering?

“I wish I could say the circus was over. But it’s just intermission. The proponents of unnatural marriage vow to keep on fighting. And Christie’s conditional veto leaves them a foot in the door.”

“But really, in the meantime can we please try to address some issues which actually matter? Folks who don’t have a job and can’t feed their families aren’t particularly worried about the tribulations of Adam and Steve. ”

The idea that marriage was created to protect the offspring of the heterosexual couple breeding. Not the couple but rather the offspring. I also acknowledge that this has been the tradition through all cultures through all of history. Gays are incapable of pro creating. End of story.

Bmore on February 18, 2012 at 11:36 PM

EXACTLY!!!

Gays can claim no comparable benefit accrues to society as a result of their homosexuality. And (despite the hysterical denials) it is irrefutable that certain aspects of the “gay lifestyle” pose a serious medical threat to others.

And any legitimate “rights” they need are easily obtainable via ordinary contracts: property sharing, inheritance, medical issues, etc: no special laws are necessary!!

The effort to force religious groups or persons to elevate gay relationships to the same status as heterosexual marriage are simply an attempt to enlist the power of the state to engage in uconstitutional interfere with religion and/or the suppression of someone else’s freedom of speech.

I don’t think that a confident & smart gay man would be any more likely than a confident & smart straight man to contract AIDS in this day and age. Just as I don’t think a confident and smart man would ever feel the need to throw himself off a bridge in NYC.

So yes, I do think being gay is perfectly valid and acceptable. HIV doesn’t know if the person whose blood it infects is gay or straight.

Violina23 on February 18, 2012 at 11:47 PM

I’m sorry, but this statement is based on ignorance. Human nature and biology doesn’t care what “day and age” it is. Unhealthy living leads to unhealthy consequences.

Gay sex requires anal intercourse. The rectum was not designed to be used as a sexual organ, and is unsuitable in multiple ways for this action. First, it is used for the elimination of waste, and any kind of deep anal penetration will create a very, very nasty environment in short order. Second, unlike the vagina, the walls of the anus are thin and easily penetrated. The intercourse will lead to irritation, and will induce infection from the feces into the blood supply.

Sorry to be so explicit, but generalities don’t make it clear that the reason that homosexuals are susceptible to more disease is because their chosen behavior is inherently unhealthy.

So the only way a “smart” homosexual couple will be no more likely to get infected than a smart normal couple, is if they are actually smart enough to not engage in homosexual behavior in the first place.

Top US military general wanted to fly American suspects out of Egypt
AFP Sat, 18/02/2012 – 14:47
***************************

The top US military general asked Egyptian authorities during a visit to Cairo this month to allow American democracy activists facing trial to fly home with him, an Egyptian state newspaper reported on Saturday.

The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Martin Dempsey, met Egypt’s military rulers amid an acrid row between the allies over Egypt’s plans to try American and other activists for illicit foreign funding.

A number of the Americans charged have sought refuge in the US embassy in Cairo. Dozens of activists of various nationalities also face trial.

“It appears that General Dempsey urged Egyptian officials he met to release the accused Americans and allow them to leave the country, so they may be tried in absentia,” the Al-Ahram report said.

“The next day, the American request was even more persistent, with Dempsey saying he wanted to accompany the Americans on his private plane,” said the report by a senior editor of the government’s flagship newspaper.

This woman has got to be kidding ? The entire rationale for their argument for gay marriage advocacy has nothing to do with marriage OR rights. It has everything to do with gaining access to medical care ( particularly Obamacare) and the personal property effects of their partner.

Marriage is NOT a right. It clearly according to current convention IS a privilege. Should gays be denied access to partners healthcare ? No.
If marriage were a right it would be under Federal purview, according to the 14th Amendment. Only states may issue marriage licences.

Marriage is a privilege and is a device to protect the survival of the species.

Here’s more from the “conservative” Christie:

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2012/feb/16/nj-gov-christie-defends-lowering-flags-houston/

“There but for the grace of God go I.”

Really? I guess it comforts him to think that people who succumb to vices are just victims of circumstance. I walk down a street follwed by a guy who walks down the same street and gets hit by lightening, I say, “There but for the grace of God go I.” I watch a crack addict on TV getting arrested for stealing to get drugs, I don’t say, “There but for the grace of God go I.” I say, “there goes a life squandered.”

Christie is an absolute azzh-le.

California voted against gay marriage in large numbers. It was then overturned by a three member Appeals Court against the will of the people. LET THE PEOPLE DECIDE, not use the Courts to legislate against the will of the people.

volsense on February 19, 2012 at 12:48 PM

Neal Boortz is like this. He is always claiming that science has settled the fact that homosexuality is in the genes. In the same breath, he’ll denounce the very same science (rightfully so) on global warming.
All because he once had a gay friend that died in a hospice.

Lanceman on February 18, 2012 at 10:40 PM

Yep, Boortz is brilliant, with two amazingly bad blind spots. This one, and abortion. Obviously, he had a similarly unpleasant experience in that area that makes him unable to see clearly, and so he blames religion.
