CPAC interviews: The candidates

posted at 3:00 pm on February 12, 2012 by Ed Morrissey

Every year at CPAC, aspiring candidates for Congress make their way to Washington to speak directly to the conservative activists that can lift them to victory in primaries and general elections — and this year was no exception.  There were a number that I simply didn’t get a chance to interview, most prominently Utah’s Mia Love, whom Tina interviewed before I had an opportunity to do so.  (Younger and quicker sometimes does beat older and craftier.)  I did get interviews with our friend Ted Cruz, who is running for the Republican nomination for Senate in Texas, and who was energized and enthused by CPAC — and enraged by the mandate imposed on religious organizations by the Obama administration for contraception and abortifacients:

Indiana sent two Congressional candidates to CPAC. First was Jackie Walorski, who ran in 2010 and narrowly lost in a tough district. This year she wants to run again in Indiana’s 2nd CD, and she’s also ready to attack the Obama agenda and regulatory overreach:

Finally, J. D. Miniear has thrown his hat in the ring for Indiana’s 7th CD. He wants to fire Andre Carson, who was last heard claiming that Tea Party activists were nothing but lynchers. Unfortunately, the video cut off part way through the interview, but J. D. gets a lot of information into the four minutes we have here:

http://pjmedia.com/instapundit/137026/ Is there any truth to this? Because Santorum will lose a lot of support if it is true.

I sure wish we had a rising star to Replace Sharrod Brown in Ohio, a aspiring witch could probably work, but we need help here.

I hate Santorum already but even I wouldn’t fall for such a cheap piece of negative PR. Whoever takes these seriously should have their votes taken away by a doctor’s order.

Ted Cruz is running against David Dewhurst (R) for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Kay Bailey Hutchinson.

There is video of Santorum saying, I am not a Libertarian and I fight very hard against Libertarian influence in the republican party. It’s right here in his own words on you tube. Rick Santorum’s “Real Concerns” About The Tea Party.

We’re supporting Cruz. Dewhurst has left us wanting…

protip: Ed, next time be behind the camera asking the questions. not that we dont love seeing your beautiful face – but its less awkward for the person you’re talking to. it allows them to look straight at the camera instead of turning to you while theyre talking. after all – they’re really talking to US with their answers, right? so let them talk to the camera instead of to the side.

great clips, btw

Josh Mandel. Already endorsed by DeMint and his PAC. And I’ve endorsed him, too, for what that’s worth ;)

Ted Cruz is doing great down here. Texas politics as usual dictates GOB Dewhurst would just be ordained the Senate seat, but Cruz is making major headway against that.

He was born in Calgary (darn) to a Cuban and Texan working in the Canadian oil fields. He was a top collegiate debater and has an accomplished legal career. He’s very learned in the philosophical basis of American conservatism/classical liberalism. He’s making opposition to Agenda 21 a major part of his platform.

If only two Ted Cruzes could show up in every state.
