Obamateurism of the Day

posted at 8:05 am on February 7, 2012 by Ed Morrissey

Normally I’d find some sort of clever way to introduce an OOTD, but on this one … I’ve got nothing:

Another illustration of presidential hubris involved the Bush family. The White House put out a picture of a private meeting in the Oval Office on Jan. 27 that included former President George H.W. Bush and his son, Jeb, the former governor of Florida.

The Bushes were in town for the annual black tie dinner the next night at the Alfalfa Club, a gathering of business and political elites. The two featured speakers, both intended to be brief and humorous, were Obama and Jeb Bush. The president spoke to good reviews. He left before Bush spoke.

Obama hates such dinners. Some of his aides, in particular his political adviser David Plouffe, urged him not to spend an evening mingling with the 1 percent. Yet he chose to go, and attendees said it was the first time they could recall a speaker leaving before the other side had its fun. In addition, Obama’s 87-year-old predecessor was present.

Imagine the criticism five years ago if President George W. Bush had walked out on a dinner before Hillary Clinton spoke, with Bill Clinton in the audience.

We would have to imagine it, because the Bushes have too much class to have pulled this stunt.

Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at obamaisms@edmorrissey.com with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.

Illustrations by Chris Muir of Day by Day. Be sure to read the adventures of Sam, Zed, Damon, and Jan every day!

Well, he walked out on Bill Clinton’s press conference.

We would have to imagine it, because the Bushes have too much class to have pulled this stunt.

This is less an OOTD than it is outright rudeness. The audacity of arrogance.

Happy Nomad on February 7, 2012 at 8:08 AM

Obama is leaving early. He’ll be doing it again in November.

Nethicus on February 7, 2012 at 8:08 AM

Not surprised at all

Shameful

cmsinaz on February 7, 2012 at 8:09 AM

You won’t hear this on the lsm

I’m surprised this came out in print

cmsinaz on February 7, 2012 at 8:12 AM

Was this one of those dinners where everyone riffs on each other in a friendly manner? I can see Obama not being able to sit through one of those. Amateur.

Mord on February 7, 2012 at 8:12 AM

He’s stopped even feigning manners?

Not-a-Marxist on February 7, 2012 at 8:12 AM

Let’s HOPE he walks out of the White House, never to be seen again, in January.

itsnotaboutme on February 7, 2012 at 8:13 AM

If George Washington was asked early in 1792, he manifestly would NOT have said “I deserve a second term” as our current President did on Sunday. Washington would have said something like: “If the honorable people of our great nation think my record worthy enough that I merit continuance in this important trust, I humbly shall accept their judgment.” I miss the days when men–especially Presidents–were expected to show intense humility.

What a jerk.

kingsjester on February 7, 2012 at 8:14 AM

From the article:

Over the last couple of months, Obama hasn’t been held to the same standard as the Republicans. That’s not because of any bias or media love affair with the president; it’s because his foes have provided so much ammunition about each other.

Media bias denier… FAIL.

itsnotaboutme on February 7, 2012 at 8:16 AM

It seems that “you get what you pay for” is still true.

OldEnglish on February 7, 2012 at 8:17 AM

I wonder if this is a member of the MSM warning Obama that he has to fake humility, a sense of humor and a liking for his fellow human beings because it is an election year.

Wethal on February 7, 2012 at 8:17 AM

This is the same guy who flipped the bird during a Presidential debate. How does it surprise anyone he ha no class.

NeighborhoodCatLady on February 7, 2012 at 8:08 AM

LOL–so true!

This is typical leftist behavior. Had Hillary gotten elected Prez, for example, we could have had weekly Hillary gaffes where we would witness ignorant, low-class behavior at every turn.

I’m waiting for the day when President Jeb Bush walks out on zer0.

Mangy Scot on February 7, 2012 at 8:22 AM

Somehow I think this little man attended so that he COULD walk out.

TimBuk3 on February 7, 2012 at 8:23 AM

Maybe he realizes nothing he can do will save his presidency, so why even bother.

Of course it is, just like increasing his church attendance, speaking at a prayer breakfast…before you know it, he will be fund raising for Special Olympics bowling…

I believe Mark Halperin was right when he called Barry a d*ck.

President Richard Face.

“Don’t call my bluff, Eric.”
.
Not a word for HW and Jeb. Nice, very classy.

ExpressoBold on February 7, 2012 at 8:27 AM

He has no sense of decorum at all. Sometimes it is hysterically gauche like giving the Queen of England an ipod with his speeches on it.

Other times it is puzzlingly inappropriate such as when he bows to foreign heads of state.

His default mode though is just rudeness. He’s bored, he’s read his TOTUS, and he’s gonna bust out so he can get home and play hoops or do anything other than work.

CorporatePiggy on February 7, 2012 at 8:33 AM

To paraphrase Alan Jackson, it’s tee time somewhere…

apostic on February 7, 2012 at 8:36 AM

If it weren’t for low class, Obama would have no class at all.

Low class, rude, inept and narcissistic.

What? JugEars didn’t give the Bush folks an i-pod or a little statue of himself, an autographed picture…nuffin?! I guess bowing would be out of the question too? He always knows the right thing to do! Did he use a fork during dinner…or just the spoon again?

Nothing that this man does surprises me anymore. He is is better than us all after all, and why we stick around to hear the remarks made by members of that low class patrician wannabe family that he loathes?

Comrade Barack has better things to do. The golf course is calling.

The current White House has all the class and dignity of a small town whorehouse.

NoDonkey on February 7, 2012 at 8:49 AM

Have you expected better from someone who presented the Queen with a Chinese-made iPod filled with his own verbal vomit?

Archivarix on February 7, 2012 at 8:51 AM

Remember the beer summit picture of Obama, Gates and the cop?

Obama was walking ahead, while the cop who arrested Gates was helping the elderly Gates down the steps.

Several sites contrasted that picture with President George W. Bush helping an elderly Robert Byrd to his seat at a White House event.

Wethal on February 7, 2012 at 8:53 AM

Yep. No class at all.

WannabeAnglican on February 7, 2012 at 8:54 AM

Do you really thing the little boy who was whining to go home, when faced with the prospect of mingling with the troops, would act any better at this event?

MNHawk on February 7, 2012 at 9:01 AM

I’d bet money to marbles that he would stay until every last pearl of wisdom dropped from Chavez’ mouth.

herm2416 on February 7, 2012 at 9:05 AM

herm2416 on February 7, 2012 at 9:05 AM

Jim Geraghty over at NRO reminded me of this from ’09.

Put another way, Obama will walk out on Jeb Bush, or debt ceiling talks, but not a 50-minute anti-American diatribe from Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega.

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/04/18/obama-endures-ortega-diatribe/

I guess Barry figures that he can learn something from the likes of Ortega or Chavez. The Bushes? Not so much.

What a tool the current occupant of the White House is.

Ten bucks says if this guy loses in November he won’t even stay for the inauguration of his replacement.

What a classless poseur.

Maddie on February 7, 2012 at 9:28 AM

Face it…the guy who got elected to the White House a few years ago hasn’t changed at all since his boyhood days in Hawaii…still a self-centered arrogant pr*ck.

coldwarrior on February 7, 2012 at 9:30 AM

This is a perfect example of the cowardice of the little boy king (with apologies to the memory of boy kings of the past ages). Maybe man-child is a better term.

Little baby Soetero attributes his own mean-spiritedness to the Bushes, so he presumes that they will say something really, really nasty about him (they wouldn’t have). So he runs off like a four-year-old to the bathroom before they “get the chance.”

What a stunted, petty, little “man” we’ve got occupying the White House. Just incredible.

Thanks, 52%.

MisterElephant on February 7, 2012 at 9:30 AM

Does he even realize that this is different than what his OWS friends are talking about when the demand classlessness?

Mr. Prodigy on February 7, 2012 at 9:41 AM

What would you expect from someone that has no humility and thinks the world revolves around him.

sadatoni on February 7, 2012 at 9:59 AM

Well, he walked out on Bill Clinton’s press conference.

NeighborhoodCatLady on February 7, 2012 at 8:08 AM

It’s worse than that. It was a joint press conference between Obama and Clinton that he turned over to Bill Clinton, then walked out. He said that he couldn’t keep Michelle waiting. I kid you not.

Gladtobehere on February 7, 2012 at 10:10 AM

My family says Richard Cranium.

It’s all the same with this lot, I will celebrate the dignity returning to the WH just as much as these jokers getting tossed out on their collective @sses.

D-fusit on February 7, 2012 at 10:29 AM

To my knowledge, NO ONE has ever accused The One of having any “class”.

Just ask the Queen Elizabeth and Tony Blair.

GarandFan on February 7, 2012 at 10:34 AM

Are we surprised? I think not. He has been doing these things forever. You can’t teach a Marxist to have manners. It just doesn’t go with the flow for them. They have no interest in getting their way with charm or even being civil. He’s entitled to be a jerk. It’s just the way it is.

SteveInRTP on February 7, 2012 at 11:15 AM

Once you understand that 0bama has not just a few but many mental issues and basically stopped his emotional development in his teens, his actions make much more sense. I ceased being amazed at the ego problems when he gave the Queen of England that ipod with his favorite speeches of himself.

jukin3 on February 7, 2012 at 11:22 AM

Narcissitic, petulant, childish little douchebag.

Also a few times to Hillary during the campaign against her. A real class act.

slickwillie2001 on February 7, 2012 at 11:39 AM

Remember the amazing acronym the Nixon campaign used in ’72 – the Committee to Reelect the President – CREEP? The Obama campaign should reuse that one – just like they reused Gingrich’s WTF.

Sowell Disciple on February 7, 2012 at 11:43 AM

Obama is arrogant and rude, not to mention totally devoid of social graces. He acts like he was raised in a barn. His air of superiority is actually his severe thin-skinned, narcissistic personality disorder on display.
